00:00Hello. Thank you for watching today.
00:18Today's topic is Fishing Base Sanpei.
00:21"Fishing Base Sanpei" is a story about a boy who loves fishing and attempts to catch legendary and mythical sea fish at various fishing spots not only in Japan but all over the world, while also defining problems in human society such as fishing etiquette and the destruction of nature.
00:44Now, let's take a look at this work.
00:47Fishing Base Sanpei was originally written by Takao Yaguchi and aired for a total of 109 episodes between 1980 and 1982.
01:02The story begins with the main character, Sanpei Sanpei, heading to the client's village to deliver a fishing rod made by his grandfather, Ippei.
01:12On the way to the client's village, they spot a raccoon drinking water from a river, but a group of char appear and attack the raccoon.
01:23Sanpei is surprised, but Sao's client, Ginji, appears from behind him and, unsurprised, tells him about a large rock known as the monster of Yonaki Valley.
01:33However, there were plans to build a dam nearby, and Narukamibuchi, where the large rock is located, was in danger of being submerged, so Ginji opposed the construction plan.
01:45When Sanpei visits Narukami-fuchi, he encounters a real large rock and, since it has a scar on its left eye, he names it Sazeniwana, which comes from the name Tange Sazen.
01:58Afterwards, Sanpei tries to think of a way to catch this char, but he is troubled because he can't come up with a solution.
02:07The first problem was that the bait for the big rock and the platform for swinging the rod were about 20 meters away from where the big rock was, which was too short for a normal Wazao rod.
02:22Then, his grandfather, Ippei, appears and, as if he had predicted Sanpei's thoughts, hands him a Wazao that is twice as long as usual.
02:32As for bait, Sanpei happens to see a large rock catching a dragonfly at Narukami Edge, so he catches Oniyama and uses it as bait.
02:43The next day, Sanpei arrives at Narukami Fuchi with Ginji and Ippei, and with his fishing rod at the ready, he waits with Ginji's monkey for the moment when the huge rock appears.
02:54As time passed, 10, 20 minutes passed, and Sanpei and the monkey were concentrating on Narukami Edge, when the monkey reacted to a large rock, so Sanpei guided the bait, Oniyama, to the point where the rock was located.
03:11Suddenly, a huge rock appears from the water, bites Oniyama, and tries to drag Sanpei and his fishing rod into the river, so Ginji and Ippei rush to help Sanpei.
03:24In this situation, Oiwa tries to crawl under the rock and cut the grass, but Sanpei skillfully controls his fishing rod and waits for Oiwa to tire.
03:35Oiwa puts up a desperate resistance, but is gradually drawn towards Sanpei, and Ginji jumps into the river with a huge net that Ippei had prepared, and finally captures Oiwa.
03:48Seeing this, Sanpei goes crazy, lifts up the huge rock he has caught, celebrates his victory, and after taking the fish table, releases the rock into the Narukami veranda.
04:01Sanpei is still excited, and from then on he will go on to wrestle with various fish in Japan and around the world, meeting many rivals and friends, and growing as a person.
04:15Now, let me introduce the characters.
04:22Sanpei Sanpei is a boy who loves fishing and nature, and is characterized by his Tohoku dialect and straw hat.
04:31He lives with his grandfather in a village in the mountains of Akita, and when it comes to fishing, he has a knack for it that even the adults around him are impressed by.
04:40Sanpei's older brother died in a tragic accident when he was a toddler, his mother died soon after giving birth to Sanpei, and his father is also unknown, so Sanpei has been raised by his grandfather since he was born.
04:56On the surface, he appears to be a boy living a peaceful and safe life, but he seems to have a complex about his family because he has no parents or siblings and has no memory of them.
05:13Ayukawa Uokami is a fishing master who is well known as the "Furaibou Angler" and is active at fishing spots both in Japan and abroad, while also serving as a treasurer for a wealthy conglomerate.
05:23Due to his gentle personality and vast knowledge that earned him a lawyer's license, Sanpei looked up to him like a father, and he would often give Sanpei advice as he was orphaned.
05:37He always wears sunglasses, partly to hide the blindness in his right eye, which was caused by an accident while he was out fishing with his father as a child.
05:48He also received a request from Ippei to search for Sanpei's father, who had gone missing, and with the help of Ippei's deductions, he was able to track down Sanpei's father, who had lost his memory in an accident.
06:02Sanpei Ippei is Sanpei's grandfather, his only blood relative, and his fishing mentor.
06:12As a Japanese fishing rod craftsman, the rods he makes are so popular that they are called "Ippei-zano" (single-sided fishing rods).
06:19As a brand rod, we do not accept any orders for rods that are for decorative purposes only.
06:24After Sanpei's brother and mother died in an unfortunate accident involving water, the place seems to have become Sanpei's fishing base while he was being raised to be a strong person who wasn't afraid of water.
06:38Takayama Yuri is a girl who lives in the same village as Sanpei, is two years older than him, and is also Sanpei's childhood friend who grew up together.
06:51They are close friends and can express their feelings to each other, but as they reach maturity, there are also scenes in which they begin to have feelings for Sanpei.
07:02It seems that he often goes fishing with Sanpei, but the purification doesn't seem to go well.
07:10Masaharu Kase is a village boy who respects Sanpei as his mentor in life.
07:17He mediates between Sanpei and Yuri when they argue, and together with Yuri, Sanpei teaches him how to fish.
07:25There is a slight age gap between her and Sanpei and Yuri,
07:29They have also been observed to act more mature by trying to act older.
07:35Sanpei was Sanpei's father and was a deep-sea fisherman.
07:41He lost his memory in an accident during the company's founding and is now missing.
07:47However, he had a vague memory of fishing, which led him to wander the world and earn a living by fishing.
07:54The fish god learned of this situation and began searching for Sanpei by taking him to fishing spots in Japan and around the world.
08:04Yasenbozu was a big man who competed in fishing for the mythical giant fish, Ito, which lives in the Kushiro Marshlands of Hokkaido.
08:15After mastering how to operate and retrieve the field mouse-shaped lure,
08:20It is capable of using its huge body to take on giant fish with great force.
08:25Aiko was the first woman that Sanpei and Uogami met at Lake Crescent, and she was Sanpei's ally in the fishing contest between them.
08:39After the match at Crescent Lake, through correspondence and later on, she became engaged to Uogami.
08:48This series has been broadcast around the world, and in Italy in particular, when it was broadcast under the program title Sanpei, it became so popular that an original song was written for it.
09:01In addition, the original work was serialized for a long period in the weekly and monthly Shonen Magazine from 1973 to 1983,
09:14A Heisei version of Fishing Base Sanpei and a spin-off called Versus Uokami-san have also been announced.
09:21Furthermore, in 2009, a live-action film starring Suga Kenta was released in Japan and Taiwan, in which the fish god, who has fallen into a slump, joins forces with Sanpei and his friends to face off against a strange fish known as the Monster of Crying Valley.
09:39In addition, the final scene of this work is different from the final episode of the original work, and the following is a synopsis of the final episode of the original work.
09:48When Sanpei returned home from fishing, he thought his grandfather Ippei was dozing off because he didn't respond no matter how many times he called out to him. So he put his hand on Ippei's shoulder, and Ippei collapsed quietly.
10:03Sanpei, unable to sense any sanity in Ippei's behavior, realizes that Ippei is dead.
10:09With an overwhelming sense of loss and the death of the only person he hated, Sanpei is stunned, and the funeral turns into a brainstem and escape stage.
10:22However, Uomi is not present at the funeral, and just when it seems they will not make it in time to escape, Uomi finally arrives by helicopter.
10:34When Sanpei saw this, all the tension and sadness he had been holding back suddenly erupted, and he burst into tears.
10:41After the funeral is completed, Uomi tells Sanpei that his father has been found, but since his father still has amnesia, Uomi decides to become a parent figure to Sanpei.
10:59After a while, Sanpei, along with other fishing crews from Japan and around the world, heads for the National Diet Building in Tokyo.
11:07After arriving in Tokyo, Sanpei announced the birth of the Fishing Base Alliance at a press conference and became its first chairman.
11:19In addition, the formation of a fishing base alliance will be declared in front of countless fishing bases holding fishing spots.
11:26The series then ends with a scene on the way to the National Diet Building, in which the characters talk about how fish are suffering due to destruction of nature and environmental changes.
11:41And below is the final episode of the anime version of this work.
11:46One fine winter day, Sanpei is fishing in the river as usual when he happens to come across a falconry scene.
11:57However, the hawk that Takashiro and Hayashizo released, Ikazuchigo, gets tangled in a discarded fishing rod and is seriously injured.
12:08The next day, Sanpei comes across Hayazo, who is setting up a trap to catch a new hawk in search of official recognition for the injured Ikazuchigo, and offers to help him capture it.
12:19After a while, the hawk enters the trap and is captured, but unlike the other hawks, it does not try to escape even after being captured, and instead remains in an attacking position, looking for an opportunity to attack, much to Hayashizo's surprise.
12:35When Hayashizo returns home, he trains his new hawk, but he also has a sword in his hand. Hayashizo, who dislikes fishermen, bans them from visiting Sanpei's house.
12:46Nevertheless, while Sanpei visits Hayashizo's house to treat Ikazuchigo's injury, Hayashizo trains a new hawk, but the hawk shows open hostility towards Hayashizo.
13:04A few days later, Sanpei stops by Hayashizo's house again and finds Ikazuchigo there, having died of old age.
13:13Although Hayazo is still vague about this, he builds a grave and prays for Ikazuchigo's soul together with Sanpei, and then continues training the new hawk.
13:25However, the hawk refuses to eat any of the food Hayashizo gives it, and has not eaten anything for several days. Fearing that he will give it away, Hayashizo strips shirtless and tries to feed the hawk his own meat as bait before letting the hawk escape into the forest.
13:44The hawk then bit Hayashizo's shoulder, causing a profuse flow of blood from his shoulder. Despite his expression of pain, Hayashizo did not resist and continued to stand there with the hawk biting him.
13:58After a while, the hawk, which had been observing Hayashizo's behavior, left him and returned to its original perch.
14:09Then Hayashizo removes the rope from the hawk's legs and tries to let it escape, but the hawk jumps onto Hayashizo's arm and recognizes him as a hawk.
14:19The next day, at Hayashizo's request, the hawk names the hawk Ikazuchi No. 2.
14:29Later, while hunting, Ikazuchi No. 2 attacks a fox, but is unable to kill it due to the fox's large size.
14:40As a result, the moment Hayashizo tried to save Ikazuchi No. 2, an avalanche occurred and Hayashizo was buried alive.
14:49When the avalanche stops and Sanpei searches for Hayazo, Ikazuchi No. 2 tells him where Hayazo is buried, and Sanpei manages to rescue him.
15:02After the rescue, Hayashizo shows Ikazuchi No. 2 the fox he killed and celebrates the success of their first dormitory.
15:10The scene changes to spring, and Sanpei, Grandpa Ippei, Yuri, and Masaharu are fishing together at a river.
15:21However, while Sanpei is the only one catching fish, Yuri and Masaharu complain, so the show ends with Sanpei giving them some advice on fishing and some tips, and then catching another fish.
15:38Now let's take a look at Sanpei and his friends' struggles.
