01:34Thank you for coming all the way here.
01:35Thank you for coming all the way here.
01:37Oh my goodness!
01:38You guys are so small in real life.
01:42Small?
01:43Yes!
01:44Like, kecil je.
01:45Comel je je.
01:46I guess that's a compliment, right?
01:47Can we sit here?
01:48Please, please.
01:49I'm like your stalker.
01:50I'm so happy you said yes to me today.
01:52Of course.
01:53Why wouldn't I say yes?
01:54Why are we here?
01:55Why are we at QBistro?
01:56I mean, I watched your video.
01:57I know you love the roti boom here.
01:58But are you like permanently kat sini?
02:00Well, QBistro.
02:01Why are we at QBistro?
02:02I mean, I watched your video.
02:03I know you love the roti boom here.
02:04But are you like permanently kat sini?
02:05Well, QBistro is like our go-to place.
02:08Every single time we come back to Malaysia.
02:10You're here.
02:11We have to.
02:12Okay, first.
02:13I don't want to be rude.
02:14Rachel, how's your Malay?
02:15Malay is okay.
02:17I can understand if you speak slowly enough.
02:20But if you ask me to...
02:21Okay, I don't want to talk like me with Rachel.
02:24I'm going to stop asking.
02:25Perlahan, perlahan.
02:26So, I just...
02:27I really am so happy that we caught you before you go back.
02:30Yeah.
02:31Is that home or is here home?
02:32They are home.
02:33That's a very good question.
02:34Oh, that's...
02:35That's a very good question.
02:36Do we need to wait till later to answer this question?
02:38Okay, before you answer, can I join you for...
02:41Yes, please.
02:42Please.
02:43I highly recommend the roti boom.
02:44Now, makan, makan, makan.
02:47This is what you always eat.
02:48This is what I love ordering the roti boom.
02:50And then I get the teh masala susu cigar.
02:53Susu cigar.
02:54Okay, I trust you.
02:55It's really good.
02:56So, I will have the exact same.
02:57So, I'm waiting in there.
02:58Merci.
03:01Thank you so much.
03:02Thank you so much.
03:03Thank you so much.
03:04Do you get recognized when you come here?
03:06Do people know it's you?
03:07A little bit sometimes here and there.
03:08Yeah.
03:09Most of the time, they see Logesh and they think, oh, I recognize him.
03:12And then they see me and then they're like, oh, yes, confirmed.
03:15But you know what the funny thing is?
03:16They recognize my voice first before recognizing me.
03:18They're like, come on.
03:19I hear you from afar.
03:20I know it's your voice.
03:21It's you.
03:22Yeah.
03:23It's so interesting to me.
03:24I'm so happy to meet you.
03:26790,000 followers.
03:29That's right.
03:30Half a million views.
03:32Half a million human beings.
03:34So, where is home?
03:36See, this is a question I've really processed through a lot, actually.
03:40Sure.
03:41I've lived a lot of my adult life in California.
03:45Yeah.
03:46But like majority of my formative years are here.
03:49So, it's just so hard.
03:50Every time I come back, it just truly feels like I belong here.
03:53This is who I am.
03:54And the longer I live overseas, I just feel more and more Malaysian.
03:57Right.
03:58Wait.
03:59The longer you live overseas?
04:00I feel more Malaysian, yeah.
04:01How does that happen?
04:02I know.
04:03It's a crazy thing.
04:04When I left the country, the one thing that I didn't want to be associated with was Malaysia.
04:09I just didn't want anything.
04:10I want to turn my back to Malaysia and embrace this completely new culture.
04:14All right.
04:15But the longer I am overseas, I just feel like my Malaysian is coming out.
04:19I realize I'm true and true Malaysian.
04:22But you know, people do say absence makes the heart grow fonder.
04:25They're fonder.
04:26Yeah.
04:27Fonder.
04:28I'm not.
04:29You know, the other one.
04:30Where are the other one?
04:31Where are the other one?
04:32Ah, USA, USA.
04:33You guys don't know the other one?
04:34This is South Africa.
04:35This is South Africa?
04:36What?
04:37I don't know the other one.
04:38I don't know the other one.
04:39You don't know the other one.
04:40Haha.
04:41You've been together, what we're talking about 11 years.
04:4411 years married, yes.
04:45That's right.
04:4611 years married, but together in total since 2011.
04:502012.
04:512012 2012 yeah so that's quite a long time right to be with each other so much and i'm sitting here
04:58looking at both of you and you still got that like when he looks at you it's still there
05:04let's see okay i'm taking this on your suggestion because i have something to share with you
05:10i'm a massive roti boom fan are you okay i will always if i could choose one thing to
05:17eat forever me and my husband it will be roti boom and ayap this is it this is why are there bubbles
05:27what's going on here it's a milk foam you know you've got so many fans and you share so much of
05:35who you are 11 years married when you propose to rachel so i watched that video i saw you in your
05:43fairy outfit i think yes because you are a special needs um teacher or um so my current profession is
05:51i'm a behavior specialist yes never got that in common yes we're talking about yes human behavior
05:56psychology realm um but when i was a fairy i was a professional fairy princess for children's birthday
06:01parties so i do magic shows and face painting and blue animals and so he proposed to me in the exact
06:08same place where we met that's the same you propose a place where berries entertain children
06:14exactly so ask you to marry him in the place where that interest was one day and bro yeah yeah yeah
06:23did you did you know he was going to propose i had no clue at that point i didn't know
06:28because what my setup the setup was i was being hired for a birthday party so i show up at the house
06:33and i'm like this place looks familiar fake party of course he has a fake party he had coordinated with
06:37my boss how long did you plan this for oh i would say a couple of weeks one hour before that no no no
06:42it's definitely planned out it's definitely planning planning you could it's a lot of planning he's very
06:47good he's a project manager he's very safe course brother and to keep everyone not saying a single word
06:52it's more easy when when he asked you did you feel the pressure to say yes because you know what he does
06:58for a living right like you know there's a camera somewhere at that point or did you know this was
07:04way before we so you did not know no i didn't know there was camera actually i had no clue i had no
07:09pressure because i wanted to marry him so badly that i was just waiting for him to ask i wanted to
07:13marry him so badly how badly did you want to marry rachel at the time of my life you know even now
07:22nothing more i wanted her so badly yeah so rachel yeah you didn't know he was going to propose
07:31right not that i didn't know he was going to propose that that evening no i mean i was hoping
07:36he was going to propose eventually but i didn't know i was completely thrown off guard but at that
07:40point right okay you were already living in the states so i was already living in the states yeah you
07:46know it was just uh i don't know very weird is maybe not the right word but a very different
07:53time for me it's a lot going on i mean when i met rachel it completely just went off my head like
08:00to never like date a guy like me like why there's no chance i mean just personally knowing who i am
08:06knowing where i came from the kind of life i've lived you know all those things you know putting it
08:13together and meeting her and knowing who she is and the kind of family she comes from and all of
08:18that and i'm like there's no chance you'll date someone like okay you thought that it was different
08:24right when you know i've dated before that and you know with other girls the other girls before that
08:33i was just like yeah sure you know it's fine whatever i'll date but with her it's just like
08:37like this is too good for me logesh today and logesh who proposed what's the biggest change
08:49you know i want to know this that's a fantastic question i i would say he's always had a drive
08:54he's always been a very passionate driven person he's not one to sit back and just kind of wait for
08:59things to happen he's always been a mover and a shaker there's also little changes but i would also i
09:03would say the man he is today he's a lot more confident and self-assured and cares lots about
09:09what people think in a good way than he was you know 11 years ago when you first when you first
09:14proposed yeah okay come so we're gonna go really far we're gonna walk for about 55 minutes 60 minutes
09:29all right but you're okay you're going to walk for 55 60 minutes did i carry you right you're doing a
09:33marathon you're okay let's go i'm not wearing the right shoes for that okay it's just there
09:37okay look oh this is bayang coffee and co
09:47shall we order it's on me let's go okay so do you eat sweets a lot or are you like oh
09:54rachel is okay but you're running a marathon oh he needs to be able to eat
09:59every much anything sure oh pandang gula melaka pandang gula melaka
10:04up there baju hijau pemilihannya pun panjang okay so pandang gula melaka satu dik
10:18alhamdulillah thank you okay guys come with me let's see now so we've ordered so
10:24as you can see rachel logesh we didn't plan anything oh please ah okay i remember in one
10:32of your early um videos when you talked about like the challenges of being from different
10:37like obviously you're bridging cultures okay you've got east meets west you've got american
10:43and malaysian okay i mean we're talking about like the culmination of two complete different cultures here
10:49together right but i mean when you look at it with all the followers you have and everything
10:54and i just want to understand at what point did you say we're going to do this together we're going
11:00to put everything about ourselves out there for the world to see which means also to judge but at what
11:07point did you sit down and say we are going to share everything about our lives i think it started
11:14initially from the point of just myself wanting to tell stories about my family we had our first
11:20kid and i wanted to just capture cute little moments and i just want to throw it on the internet
11:26it was never about sharing our lives publicly publicly to the world so no it was never about
11:32that yeah i think the biggest point was when the birth clock that was the big you know i asked her
11:39when she was going to labor can i vlog this at one point if we go back back back when you proposed to
11:46her that was a moment that you said rachel you didn't know he was actually recording so did you agree
11:51later i think the proposal was just more of like just let's capture this memory i want this memory
11:57forever anyone does that it's just for us yeah but the vlogs that's for the world you know and
12:03so that's different that's something completely different everyone gets access to that so we do
12:08still have control over what we show and what we don't ah okay right you know okay and there is
12:14that that fine line there and we talked about what do we want to show and when do we turn off the
12:18camera because there are a lot of moments between our vlogs that we have to turn off the camera
12:23because kids are having a tantrum or we have to parent or we have to be a husband and a wife in
12:29that moment which is takes priority yeah so there are moments that we have to do that i would say
12:34there's never a defining moment where we sat down it's like okay this is what we're going to look like
12:38when we share our lives but the one thing that we discussed very early on was how we are going to
12:45treat our child and future children on camera yeah and we would never ever make them do anything on
12:51camera if they want to come join in activities but if they don't so they happen to be there they happen
12:56to be there it's us sharing our lives and our kids tag along it's not about them yeah up to the point
13:02that they're able to consent which is like a long way it's a long way to go yeah because we want to give
13:07them a chance this is maybe not the life that they want yeah are you concerned though that that
13:12kai kai and zayden i like kai kai i don't know why i just like calling him that are you concerned
13:17that they themselves at some point will look back and say hey mom and dad you know i didn't want you
13:22to share this it is definitely we've talked about it too and i think that's why we do try to be very
13:26careful about we try not to show them in very vulnerable times we try not to over share about
13:31them um about anything going on behind the scenes yeah how do you feel today though being known as the
13:38gomar family because you're celebrities now see i i want to disagree with you on that okay go like
13:44i celebrity is a very different way of viewing someone i i think personally like an actress like
13:51yourself you can you're a celebrity okay i at least for myself i consider myself to be more closer to
13:58our audience if that makes sense like we are there with them right we are shooting content that is
14:04closer to real reality exactly everyday life and why people watch us because we are relatable
14:10they see themselves through our videos if another malaysian were to move overseas and marry to minas
14:16saleh they would do the same things that i did check away with their neighbors do all those things
14:21so i don't view ourselves as celebrity and whenever people come up to us you know yeah and say like hey
14:25kumar you know yeah can't believe i meet you i'm like we hang out with them we talk to them we ask their
14:30names you know yeah so we see that if we see ourselves as an extended family almost and you
14:35have so many fans like you've had meet and greets right i've seen it like where you've come and people
14:40know right and then they come so what's the most memorable encounter you've had with the fan i mean
14:46has anyone come up to you and said like that you took them through a time of their life or something
14:52we've had someone share something really really intimate uh with us and kind of kind of broke me a little
14:59bit uh they shared you know i'm not gonna say name or whatever but you know they told us that
15:06our videos was able to help them get through depression and get through just another day just
15:12by watching our videos and in that moment i just like thought to myself like if if my video can just
15:20like help one person in that sense that's enough that's enough that's enough you've made an impact
15:27that's all i can about when logish and i first got married people would ask me oh what's the
15:31hardest part about being married and as an american i kept saying eating rice every day because growing
15:37up i didn't eat rice all the time and then logish ate rice every day but now we eat rice like every
15:41other every other day yeah rice is life man i know a lot of people i read some of the comments okay so
15:48we're we're going to talk about this whenever you put yourself out there there's going to be the
15:52negatives there's going to be you did a video to the haters i saw that one i was like whoa you guys
15:57are brave because you address comments direct how they are can address so like and that's what i
16:05think you talked about that you're close to people yeah and and i love that that you talked about what
16:12people said to you especially right here's the thing about comments right like we get a lot of mean
16:18comments or whatever you know that happens yeah and it's really easy to ignore the ones that are
16:23this completely utter nonsense that people are just trying to troll you online yeah but the ones that
16:28really gets you are the ones that have some truth to it do you why do you say they've got truth to it
16:34and the reason why i brought this up is because one of the comments and it relates back to i was
16:38talking about yourself and you being so compassionate a lot of people were saying and i can say this like
16:42i'm sitting here with them today rachel i have to say this logesh you were very strong and grounded as
16:50a person oh yeah you i can i can feel it from you you know do you sangat solid dalam dia punya cara
16:57dia bercakap off screen semua yeah and logesh you talk and you're the entertainer did you realize this in
17:05in is that why is that is that is that something you see and and the way you shoot it i mean she's so
17:11strong that she doesn't even need to say much and you can right right right right no she she's
17:15incredible in all these different ways i think in the in the sense of like the videos that we shoot
17:21um there's a i don't know would you say like that's a structure that's a way to do it and so that's why
17:26i sort of like drive that and i guess my apologies i would say logesh is so much better at storytelling he
17:34definitely has a vision for where where a story should go where i'm a little bit more of like i jumble
17:40things up like oh let's talk about this let's talk about this and i think it's just because i love
17:43connecting with people in different ways so i think i get off track very easily so he's a little
17:47bit more able to like guide the story in the direction it should be going okay so we're going
17:52to talk a little bit about the two different cultures that you bring we say america is still home
17:56right but you know that you were you were raised here so your base your foundation is here in malaysia
18:01right so what about you though i mean do you consider malaysia as
18:05do you i mean is it home for you with logesh's family here um i would definitely consider malaysia
18:13when coming to malaysia because we come every year it feels like returning home and i think one thing
18:19about you know living in america coming here is you can you can have two homes and both places can feel
18:26like home um and you're always going to be missing something or someone yeah so no matter where you are
18:31like if we lived here in malaysia i think there's so many things we miss about america you should
18:35share the story about how we got that coffee from that one place what do you mean oh you mean tea
18:39from that one place that's right that's right i don't want to say share the story about how we
18:43had a table last night so many examples of just malaysia but i think one example of what i love and
18:50what makes malaysia feel like home is the people and the people are the like i it can be a stranger
18:55that i just met yeah and just their connection and their desire to like know you is really beautiful
19:02um so this was last year we were up in perlis and we were about to take like a boat ride on the
19:09river and it was we were so excited about that so we're waiting for our turn and there's this
19:13man who set up a little you know stall and he was serving uh tea tea ice and a couple of koi and
19:19things and so we go and we go and we're eating it and we're drinking the tea and i love tea like tea
19:27is my favorite drink and i'm drinking this tea like this tea is so good it's like one of the best
19:32tea ice i've ever had and i'm like and logos always makes me all my favorite things at home like can you
19:37make this like this is really good yeah and so he asked the uncle who's working the shop he's like
19:41hey where like where do you buy this tea leaves it's really nice yeah um and the uncle's telling him
19:45like oh yeah it's from this one specific place you know whatnot where it is yeah he's giving some
19:52things and so we go on the boat ride 30 minutes later 45 minutes later we come back the uncle
19:57chases us down with a packet of the tea he'd gone and gotten us the actual the tea for us because he
20:03knew that i loved it so much where do you think that comes from because that isn't that is something
20:09that i do see and it is something malaysia above and beyond just to like love on someone and i think
20:15again it's comparing american culture to malaysian culture i think america is very individualistic
20:19where you know i'm kind of focused on my things and there's pros to that but i think malaysia has
20:25this really beautiful group mentality of so this man's thinking like oh i want to make this person
20:30feel like part of the group um and now that like we're i was like in tears when he was like giving it
20:36to us it was like the kindest act of sharing this with me with us without being asked to do it
20:43we didn't tell him like hey go buy it for us yeah okay so she uh rachel mentioned how the beauty of
20:49malaysian people going above and beyond to love on you as you said okay but what about america i mean
20:55you still have chosen that as a place to live beyond family and whatnot do you see yourselves staying
21:02there what is it about america that makes you want to stay there i mean america is the one thing
21:08about america that i love is changed my my mindset to believe in myself in the sense that i can do or
21:15be any anyone i want and i don't know is it a family thing is it a country thing is it a community thing
21:21but you know all my life i felt like i've been put in a box and that's where i should be in and live in
21:30what's the box that box is like you have to go to college you need to do a nine-to-five you have to
21:37there's certain things that you just have to be in and there's a ceiling right and that's who you
21:43are you your whole life which is that's just that ceiling was really tiny it's small right when when
21:50i was in malaysia but once i left the country and i feel like the mindset that americans have taught me
21:56is that no you can be whoever you want anything you want sometimes to a detriment you know but
22:02it's at least opened my eyes the sense that no i can i don't have to conform to the world standards
22:08and just like do what everyone is doing i can do whatever i want whatever i'm passionate about you
22:13know i feel like and maybe it's just like the older generation that's put the pressure on us like no

43:07That was hard.
43:08That was hard.
43:09Because even I can't speak like that.
43:10That was hard.
43:11Okay, which one was most easiest for you?
43:12Because I could tell.
43:13Clantan.
43:14Clantan for whatever reason.
43:15Clantan.
43:16We have to go to Clantan.
43:17Okay.
43:18My goodness.
43:23Okay, so before I say goodbye to you.
43:25Before you move to LA and become like valley men and valley girls.
43:28I have something to read.
43:29Oh my god.
43:30How can I forget this?
43:31Okay.
43:32So we were sent a lot of messages.
43:34You didn't know but we asked people what they wanted to say to you or ask you.
43:39And there's a follower of yours.
43:41A person who loves you both basically.
43:44He's a fan.
43:45And so they sent this.
43:46So we want to finish our interview today.
43:48We want to finish our interview with Lokesh and Rachel.
43:52With a message from Shin Shiru 2710.
43:55I don't know the name.
43:56We don't know the name.
43:57But this is what they said.
43:58They said,
43:59I think Rachel is super clever.
44:02Aww.
44:03It's never easy to learn a new language.
44:05And it's amazing that she understands and at the same time communicates and tries in Bahasa Malaysia.
44:11Rachel, please be proud of yourself.
44:14You are so awesome.
44:15Aww.
44:16That's so nice.
44:18So I don't think both of you realize the impact that you have on people's lives as much as you do.
44:24So never think, never underestimate the impact that you're having on people.
44:30Because this is a world where everyone's so divided.
44:34Right.
44:35And you guys are uniting in your own way.
44:38And you need to always remember that.
44:41And you're making a huge difference even when you think you're not.
44:44Even if you think you're failing.
44:45So kami semua na uchaakan.
44:46Thank you for being you.
44:49And creating this unified universe
44:53that allows us to have hope.
44:56Because hope is something that we don't have enough of today.
44:59Is there anything you would like to say?
45:02Before you head off to America and to LA and become Hollywood star?
45:07No, I mean, this is really kind of you.
45:09Even for this platform to share.
45:11I mean, we're so grateful for the people.
45:14The people is what make this world a better place.
45:17And we want to show it, you know, like you said.
45:20Like through us, we want to show it through the stories of our family and our lives.
45:24And it's a small impact we can make in the world.
45:26We want to just unite people and bring people together and share love.
45:29So, yeah.
45:31We're just thankful that we have this opportunity to do that.
45:34What about you, Rachel?
45:35What's your, in the bigger scheme of everything, if you look back in 40 years time,
45:40what do you want to say that you did together?
45:43Together?
45:44I mean, I think just bridging the cultures and just showing that there's beauty from wherever you come from
45:51and being proud of who you are, but also embracing, you know, your loved ones' cultures
45:55and really integrating that, especially as a part of our family.
45:58I think we are very, we are not fully Malaysian.
46:01We're not fully American.
46:02We're very Rojak.
46:03And I love that.
46:04And so I think I want to look back 40 years and see the impact we have.
46:07I know you as a, you know, biracial individual had to pave the way for our children.
46:12Our children.
46:13So I want to see, you know, our family and our children paving the way for others coming along as well.
46:18Thank you so much for joining all of us here today on Tumpasi.
46:23For having us.
46:24Thank you so much.
46:25Thank you so much for having us.
46:26I think you did more than tumpah.
46:28You completely poured your hearts out.
46:31And I wish you all the best.
46:33And don't forget, and I don't think you will forget who you really are, even in LA.
46:41Oh my God.
46:42So thank you for joining me in Tumpati.
46:46Logesh and Rachel from the Kumar family.
46:49Thank you so much.
46:51Thank you so much for being with us.
