00:00For Luciano this village was the beginning of everything and for him was already something
00:17wow you know because it was the first big thing he happened to his life and in his mind he said
00:23well if a chorus from a small town could win the first prize maybe I could have a career so for
00:34him was the beginning of everything. That victory was something different to win gives to you a kind
00:41of strength then after in life you say I did win, I can win The 1995 Pavarotti concert is hugely
01:03significant in the history of the Islesford it marked a real turning point for the festival
01:08this marked the start of international artists coming here to perform evening concerts. This was
01:12the first what you might call ultra celebrity concert and it started a precedent then so
01:19with ever since then there have been a lot more of those sorts of concerts coming into the into the
01:24Estetford it was a truly remarkable night the whole town was full of visitors the Estetford field had
01:45huge numbers and people brought champagne and had parties on the field during the concert you are all
01:53beautiful here I know there is other people outside
02:06I'm sure you are beautiful too
02:10and when Pavarotti came on stage there was an immense reception from the audience and he took the place by
02:19storm didn't he yes it was wonderful it caught the imagination of the nation really
02:34the return concert meant a lot because it was a return after a huge journey that represented the
02:41beginning and then he wanted to go back at the same place to tell even to all the other people participating
02:49hey you can do it you know I did it so each of you can do it you know it was a way for him to to repay the
02:57joy and the strength he received from that competition it's been common knowledge for a number of years that he'd
03:04uh begun his career in Sangossen but we never really believed that he was going to be coming back and
03:11let's face it he was the the greatest tenor in the world and it was clear that he was delighted to be
03:16here oh he was it was magical and he was so charming with everybody it was wonderful
03:33we had invited him to be the president of the day uh and he accepted that on condition that his father
03:41could also be president of the day with him so the two of them came onto the stage he gave a
03:48a lovely address to the audience and of course got a standing ovation it was a celebration and a carnival
03:56and a coming together yes and it was a great an experience that none of us who were there will ever
04:03ever forget thank you very much for the beautiful night you gave to me thank you
