WWE loves Kevin Owens, you love Kevin Owens, and Simon Miller loves Kevin Owens.
Transcript
00:00So I say this a lot on social media and people lose their minds.
00:03But you know what, I've got thick skin.
00:05Sometimes I don't care, most of the time.
00:07So we are going to talk about it today, my friends.
00:10I think Kevin Owens is a modern-day GOAT, which stands for Greatest Oz All Time.
00:15Why? Here's why.
00:17The answer is mostly because I think he's brilliant.
00:24And the way I always summarise this is that if we are talking about modern-day wrestlers,
00:28I would always throw Kevin Owens in there.
00:30Because seriously, what can't he do?
00:32He always has good matches.
00:33And in fact, I can't remember the last time he had a bad one.
00:35He can be a serious character.
00:37He can be an emotional character.
00:38He can be an asshole, like when he always turns on Sami Zayn.
00:41He can be hilarious.
00:42He can embody goofy wrestling for life, which he basically did in 2016 with Chris Jericho.
00:46And he's one of the only people within the world of professional wrestling
00:49that understands about wrestling tropes.
00:51Anytime he's like, how dare you come out here before I've said your name.
00:55I just love people breaking the fourth wall.
00:58And it is a skill.
00:59Not everyone can do it.
01:00Sometimes people try.
01:01It's like, oh, this is horribly embarrassing.
01:04But when KO does it, he just has me on the floor, which is weird.
01:07He's also a really inspirational dude.
01:09Because I remember listening to podcasts back in the day,
01:11and everybody were talking about Kevin Owens because he was a standout on the independent scene,
01:15including Ring of Honor.
01:17And it was always caveated with, well, he'll never make it to WWE.
01:21Because he's not a Vince McMahon guy.
01:22Now, listen, I'm sure he got into NXT because of Triple H.
01:26But when he was called up to the main roster, when Vince was definitely pulling the strings,
01:29what happened pretty much from day one, even McMahon, when this guy is just the absolute best,
01:36we better do something with him.
01:37And he beat John Cena.
01:39I remember watching that pay-per-view.
01:40I couldn't believe it.
01:41It all comes down to this idea, though, that the cream always rises to the top.
01:45And if we are talking about milky substances, KO is right up there.
01:48I shouldn't have said it, and it made myself laugh.
01:51I also just think it comes down to emotion and how certain superstars make you feel.
01:55Because no matter what Kevin Owens has done over the last few years, I have been invested.
01:59Like, even when he was taking on Roman Reigns at every single Royal Rumble in existence,
02:03I knew deep down in my Tootsie Toes he was never going to win.
02:07There was also like this 2% thing in my tum-tum when I was desperate for him to get something out of this,
02:11any kind of a victory, because it would have made me happy.
02:15Why the hell do I watch wrestling in the first place?
02:17For the smiles.
02:18His relationship with Sami Zayn is also absolutely wonderful,
02:21which is why at that WrestleMania main event when they took on the Usos to win the tag team titles,
02:25all of this was just heightened.
02:27And then, yeah, we go to WrestleMania 38, where he main-evented with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
02:33Now, listen, this is a flubbed-up thing for me to say,
02:36but I was blessed enough to be there live,
02:38and I kind of felt like I was watching my own son.
02:41Not in a creepy way, but I was so proud of Kevin Owens for basically achieving all of his dreams.
02:46And that's because over the years, I built up some kind of weird emotional connection with him.
02:51And again, this all sounds like crazy stalker stuff, but you know what I'm talking about.
02:54It's why we love professional wrestling to the degree that we do do,
02:57because you're able to suspend your disbelief,
03:00and you start thinking everything you see is totally, totally real.
03:02I also do think he's massively underrated when it comes to his in-ring work,
03:05because he is another one of these guys that could see the direction the industry was going
03:10and batted down that door.
03:12I think this was like 2014.
03:14In fact, it was probably even earlier.
03:15He's also able to be a huge success in WWE, despite not being a body guy.
03:20Although I hate that term, it's stupid,
03:22because Kevin Owens is meant to look like a brawler who could whoop your ass.
03:26If you are one of these idiots that go,
03:28Oh man, Kuno, you're so out of shape.
03:30Have you ever seen him blow up?
03:32Have you ever seen him be out of breath?
03:34No, you have not, because he's in great shape, you fools.
03:37You just don't understand what cardiovascular activity is.
03:40So honestly, and I'm sure you will disagree,
03:42I cannot find fault with his game.
03:44When he talks, he listens, when he fights,
03:46I totally believe every single thing that he's doing.
03:48And as I stand here in September 2024,
03:51I am desperate that he gets one more WWE world title reign.
03:55Even though we did give it to him in 2016,
03:58that was totally screwed up.
04:00Remember everything with Goldberg,
04:01when he beat him in like three seconds,
04:03even though Chris Jericho cast the distraction.
04:05That was poop.
04:05He's also a guy that I look forward to seeing every single week,
04:08even when he's lost in the ether.
04:11I mean, that happens to all wrestlers.
04:12You can't always be the focal point,
04:14and you can get lost in the shuffle,
04:15but even then, he will just pop up his head above the parapet.
04:19And instantly, I want to hear what he's going to say,
04:22and I want to hear what he's going to do.
04:24He's even good at color commentary.
04:26Every time he does that as well, he's making me laugh.
04:29You also know that WWE value him as well,
04:31because the last time he signed a brand new contract,
04:33he made all the money.
04:34And apparently, that contract is coming up soon,
04:37and there's already murmurs of AEW being like,
04:39well, we'll hurl the bag at your face.
04:41And WWE being like, well, we'll pull the dump truck up to your house.
04:45And once again, my friends, this doesn't happen by fluke.
04:48This doesn't happen just to be nice to someone.
04:50It's because they both understand the value of the guy.
04:53And value mostly comes from talent.
04:55And Kevin Owens, in terms of the modern generation,
04:58is one of the most talented guys you will ever see.
05:00Going back to that WrestleMania match with Austin as well,
05:02and this doesn't really tie into anything,
05:03but I still think it's a good point.
05:05You don't just pick somebody random
05:07to take on one of the greatest,
05:09one of the most successful professional wrestlers ever.
05:11But everybody must have sat down and scratched their heads
05:14and gone, well, I think Kevin Owens would do a good job.
05:16When they pitched the idea to Stone Cold Steve Austin,
05:19who had must have gone,
05:20I would love to work with Kevin Owens.
05:23If you had pitched him somebody else,
05:24he probably said, no way, man.
05:26I ain't interesting.
05:27But even the damn goat knows how good KO is.
05:31And I think that's probably a better point
05:32than me standing here and waving my arms around.
05:35Once again, I want to put this in your skulls.
05:37Stone Cold Steve Austin may have had his last ever match
05:40at WrestleMania 38, and he picked this guy.
05:43So don't you walk into my house and tell me he's no good.
05:45He's the flippin' best.
05:46I truly mean this as well.
05:47If I was starting a wrestling company tomorrow,
05:48Kevin Owens would be the first phone call I'd make.
05:51He'd be like, get off the phone.
05:52I don't know who you are, and you sound like a loon,
05:54and he'd be 100% correct.
05:56And he could do anything that you wanted to do.
05:58I'm kind of repeating what I did a few minutes ago,
06:00but you want him to be a babyface, he can do it.
06:01You want him to be a heel.
06:03He can do it.
06:04If you just want him to hold everything together,
06:06he can do it.
06:07You could even have a company full of rookies,
06:09and Kevin Owens would be your only legendary veteran guy,
06:12and you just know he could wring General the ship out of them
06:15and give you anything that you want.
06:17Now, you're probably whirring through your brains right now,
06:19going, oh, how can I say something that contradicts all this?
06:23I think you're going to be able to come up with it.
06:25Because go look at the evidence.
06:26Go through Kevin Owens' career,
06:28although when you do go back to those early days
06:30of Ring of Honor, my word, as he calmed it down,
06:34this dude used to be crazy.
06:36I also do think he opened a bunch of doors
06:38for the brand new version of whatever wrestling is meant to be.
06:41This does go back to the way that he looked,
06:43because he just proved if you have something inside of you
06:46that resonates with us wrestling fans,
06:48you can get to the tippity-tippity top,
06:51which he's basically done for the last decade.
06:54I really do hope he goes on a bit longer than a few years.
06:57He was saying in an interview the other day,
06:59he thinks he's close to the end, the beginning,
07:00which is true, you know, he's got a 45 keb or maybe 50, 55,
07:06and yeah, maybe call it quits at 60.
07:08We see wrestlers at the big 6-0, always gets me a bit worried.
07:12So I just think he's wonderful.
07:13There you go, I've said it.
07:14And right now, if I was going to make a list
07:16of my top five current favorite wrestlers,
07:18I think he would actually be number one,
07:20and the very worst, be number two.
07:22So you know you see those threads on forums
07:24that just says Kevin Owens' appreciation post.
07:26That's what I've done today.
07:27And if the video title could work as Kevin Owens' appreciation video,
07:32I would call it that.
07:33But instead, I've gone with the goat.
07:34But you know what?
07:35I genuinely think he's in the conversation
07:37because I think he rules.
07:39Now, of course, you can go nuts in the comments about this,
07:41but you're never going to change my mind
07:43no matter what you do.
07:44Like the video, share it there and subscribe
07:45and make sure all your notifications are on.
07:47And if I haven't put you off,
07:49you would like to hear me talk more about wrestling,
07:51click the video on the screen.
07:52Otherwise, my friends, take care of yourself.
07:54And remember, we all have favorites in professional wrestling.
07:56That's what makes it so exciting.
07:58There'll be guys I like that you think of crap and vice versa.
08:02But also remember that real human beings too,
08:04don't be mean.
08:06Didn't need to finish it like I was your dad.
08:08See you soon.
