00:00I became Muslim in my early 20s and I was introduced to another revert by a friend at college.
00:06And that revert and I, we ended up getting married, alhamdulillah.
00:09And alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen, Allah blessed us with five children and he blessed us with 17 happy years, alhamdulillah.
00:16One day, I was woken by my children who came calling for me.
00:21Mommy, mommy, daddy's not waking up.
00:24I went to the bed and found my husband not responsive and we called the ambulance and it happened like this.
00:32The ambulance comes, we take him to get a scan.
00:35They say that he's had a stroke and that there is brain damage and he's in a coma.
00:40And they don't know how long he'll be in the coma or what his state will be if he wakes up.
00:45So I'm sitting there.
00:46It's been 17 years of this man, a constant in my life, this beloved husband, wonderful father, mashallah, tabarakallah.
00:54My children are looking to me for answers.
00:56When is daddy going to wake up?
00:58When is he coming home?
00:59And I don't know what to tell them.
01:00And the people start coming.
01:02They come with dua.
01:03They come with Quran.
01:04They come with love.
01:05How wonderful people come into your life when you need them.
01:08And I'm sitting there.
01:09I'm the one who has to phone his mother.
01:11This is her youngest child.
01:13And I have to tell her, mom, he's in a coma.
01:15They don't know whether he's going to wake up.
01:17I have to hear a mother's heart breaking.
01:19And I have to go through all the scenarios.
01:22What if he stays in a coma for three years?
01:25What happens then?
01:26Allah is the owner of the heavens and the earth.
01:30And he decides.
01:31So, Ya Rab, if he will be in a coma for however long, I accept.
01:36Then they say, when he wakes up, he may have severe brain damage.
01:40He may not recognize you or the children.
01:42I say, Allah is the owner of the heavens and the earth.
01:46He decides.
01:47And if my husband wakes up and he is no longer the man that he was, I accept.
01:52And then what if he doesn't come back?
01:55Subhanallah, I went through every scenario, which is what you do.
01:58You go through every scenario, what could possibly happen.
02:00And Allah gives me the chance to accept each scenario.
02:03Say, Ya Rab, this is in your hands.
02:05Whatever you decide, I accept.
02:07When after two weeks, I got the phone call and the doctor said that we try to revive him,
02:12but your husband is no more.
02:13Your husband has returned to Allah.
02:15I said, Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raj'oon.
02:19I put down the phone and I went into sujood of shukr.
02:22Most of us don't look at our lives on a daily basis and say,
02:26Alhamdulillah for this.
02:28Alhamdulillah for that.
02:29Alhamdulillah for my husband, for my wife, for my children, for my health, for my home,
02:34for my parents still alive, for this job that pays my bills,
02:37for this degree that is opening doors for me, for my friends who support me.
02:41Most of us are forgetful.
02:44We are the children of Adam after all.
