00:00Well hello and welcome to a very special race here today.
00:07We have some marvellous machines down on the grid that in just a few moments
00:11will be accelerating up to some really high speeds indeed
00:14to compete for a prestigious Grand Prix victory.
00:21So here we are at Albert Park Circuit.
00:233.3 miles of public roads, closed for the weekend of course,
00:26make for a bumpy surface with little undulation.
00:29There are 16 corners around the lake with the best passing opportunities
00:33coming at Turn 1 and Turn 3.
00:38I'm joined again today by none other than Anthony Davidson.
00:41Tell me Ant, obviously there's a lot of development work that goes on
00:45with these cars between the races.
00:47You've been both a test driver and a race driver.
00:50What differences are there in the way you approach those roles?
00:54Interesting question Crofty, they're two very different mindsets.
00:58I mean when I tested for BAR we had full in-season testing
01:02where per driver you'd cover up to 15,000 kilometres per season.
01:07And in that role it was more about working for the team,
01:10trying to help them improve the car and drive as systematically as you could,
01:13so that that data could be analysed in the most consistent way.
01:17When you're lining up on the grid for a race however,
01:19your frame of mind is all about what you can get out of the situation on that day,
01:23and the car's the tool to help you achieve what you want.
01:26You still want to focus on setup of course,
01:28but it's more about the here and now,
01:30getting yourself as far up the field as possible,
01:33and less about development work for the future.
01:36Well then, after an exciting qualifying session yesterday,
01:40let's take a look at how the cars line up.
01:42Daniel Ricciardo starts from pole position today,
01:45and starting alongside in P2 is Sebastian Vettel.
01:48Looking down the rest of the grid we have,
01:50Hamilton, Raikkonen, Valtteri Bottas, and Verstappen,
01:54Hülkenberg, Perez, Van Dorn, and Esteban Oco,
01:58Grosjean, Magnussen, Carlos Sainz, and Alonso,
02:02Stroll, Sirotkin, Brendan Hartley, and Pierre Gasly, Ericsson,
02:07and Charles Leclerc rounds off the grid.
02:10Now it's almost time to lights out, so let's go down to the track.
02:15Right, let's be patient going into turn one.
02:21We want to be in a good position for the rest of the race.
02:24Good luck.
02:45Who?
02:47Who?
02:48Who?
02:49Who?
02:51Who?
02:52Who are you?
02:54Who?
02:57Who?
03:06Who?
07:08Okay.
07:16Okay.
07:18Pick up rubber and bring it home.
07:32Brilliant stuff from Red Bull today. What a superb victory.
07:45And Anthony Davidson, give me your thoughts. How did they accomplish this result?
07:50Well, I think the track conditions just really suited their car today.
07:53Wind, track temperature, you name it.
07:55These cars come alive when the tyres are just at the right temperature.
07:58So the more easily you can keep them there, the better your race tends to go.
08:02And that's exactly what happened. Their car just looks so comfortable out there.
08:07And I can see now the drivers are making their way out.
08:10We need Red Bull fighting at the front. They do an incredible amount for Formula One.
08:15And that's another winner's trophy heading back to Milton Keynes.
08:28And now I'd like to ask you, Anthony Davidson, who was your driver of the day?
08:45Let's give it to Sergio Perez. That was a commanding performance today. Very impressive indeed.
08:51That's it for today's Grand Prix. And from Anthony, it's goodbye and see you again next time.
