00:00Mahilig ba kayo sa mga journal, stationaries, writing your own thoughts, and keeping some memories with your loved ones?
00:08O baka naman naghahanap ka lang ng bagong hobby? Ito's Christmas and New Year's season.
00:13Well, tamang-tama yan, the season less late.
00:15Dahil makakasama natin ngayon ng isang workshop facilitator na tuturuan tayo how to set up our journals
00:22at ilang mga tips and advices from Ma'am Cathy Balmorez.
00:25Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to Ivershine, Philippines.
00:30Hello. Thank you for having me.
00:31Ayun. Ay, Ma'am Cathy, can you tell us more about journaling?
00:35Kasi baka meron iba dyan mga nalilito. Ano ba ito? Diary lang ba ito?
00:39Or anong ba talaga ang journaling?
00:41Well, actually, journaling is really a combination of the diary, listing down your tasks for the day,
00:48scrapbooking sa mga batang 80s, 90s. It's really an all-in-one.
00:53Kasi there are different kinds of journaling.
00:55So, some of them, junk journaling.
00:57Ito yung mga throughout the day, mga tissue, wrappers, tickets, you wanna kind of put into land pag nag-travel ka, di ba?
01:05Parang some sort of memory keeping, pero mga items that you had for the day.
01:11They put it in one page.
01:12They put it in one page.
01:13Meron namang bullet journaling sa mga productive people, nililista nila lahat ng kailangan gawin, and then they take off the list.
01:20Kasi it makes them feel good.
01:22Yung may dopamine hit na, uy, nagawa ko ito.
01:23May checklist.
01:24And then, ang pinaka sikat or popular is yung memory keeping.
01:29Okay.
01:30Photos, thoughts for the day, ano yung mga natutunan mo, ano yung mga na-experience mo, you write it down, you put a little bit of sticker.
01:37Pero all of these, hindi siya necessary.
01:40Hindi kailangan, ay, may dapat may sticker, ay, dapat may ganito.
01:43Okay.
01:43Pang-ano lang yun, palamuti.
01:45Yes.
01:45And you do what's good for you.
01:46Yung journaling na alam ko rin, yung if you have, you know, you want to rant or, di ba?
01:52So, that's part of journaling also.
01:54Yes.
01:54Meron namang tayong tinatag na rant journaling.
01:57Minsan kasi you wanna keep the peace, so hindi mo sasabihin yung nasa isip mo.
02:02But at the same time, you need that release, so you write it down.
02:05Yun yung mga, burn this journal after writing, mga rant journaling, mga, don't read this, don't open this, it's just for me.
02:14May mga gano'n, you just kind of put write it.
02:16Ganyan yung daughter kamay, gano'n siya.
02:18Tapos naka, ano doon, do not open.
02:20Wow.
02:21Cute, cute.
02:21So, that's a good thing pala.
02:23It's a positive way to let go of anger, of negativity, or toxicness.
02:28Oo.
02:29Lalo na sa panahon ngayon, medyo maraming stress.
02:31So, parang, it promotes good mental health, right?
02:36Definitely.
02:37So, journaling is really about mental health, for you to be able to dump everything.
02:41Yes.
02:42Most time, sa gabi siya ginagawa, kasi takpag-tapos na yung araw, so you just wanna put everything down before you sleep.
02:49Exactly.
02:49And again, there's no real rule na agabi lang, a umaga lang.
02:54Okay.
02:54You do what's good for you.
02:56It's like how you feel.
02:57Exactly.
02:58You don't force it.
02:59Meron ibang one word a day.
03:00So, they just write one word in their journal, for the day.
03:03Parang, everything encompassing in that one word.
03:06Wow.
03:06Ako, Miss Cathy, I consider my social media page, especially yung Instagram ko, as my journal.
03:12I don't know if that's considered, because I put the highlights there.
03:15Yung mga things, milestones ng mga anak ko.
03:18I put it there, because ngayon, I mean, ipiprint po ba ba?
03:21Wala nang, parang, for me, parang di na ako nakita ng mga printed album.
03:24So, parang gusto ko, sinisave ko dun sa online na lang.
03:28And, yes, definitely, digital journaling is also a thing.
03:32Alright.
03:32As for me, kasi what I promote is inclusivity, so everything.
03:35What works for you may not work for someone, but the only rule that I believe in journaling is,
03:40it has to work for you.
03:42You have to love doing it.
03:44No one else.
03:45Kasi, I think people who put down other people's journal, may problema sa kanila.
03:50Kasi, if you can do, if you can say something bad about pen and paper, or someone's memory,
03:55that doesn't affect you, then that's their problem.
03:58It's not you.
03:59You do what's good for you.
04:00Yes.
04:00Whatever makes you happy, however you want to journalize it.
04:03Exactly.
04:04Ma'am, paano ba ito nagsimula?
04:05At ano naging mga inspirasyon nyo?
04:08Para mag-umpisa ng isang journaling workshop.
04:11Kakaiba ito.
04:12So, mabubuking na yung age ko.
04:14I started in 1995.
04:16Wow.
04:16So, I've been doing this for 30 years.
04:19My mom was my inspiration.
04:21So, siya yung mahilig sa stickers.
04:23Siya yung may notebook.
04:24Sinsulat na yung mga thoughts niya, poems that she wrote.
04:28Tapos, may mga lyrics ng mga kanta that, you know, may meaning sa kanya.
04:33I discovered it.
04:34Saka, ano to?
04:35So, and then she explained that parang that's her way of preserving memories.
04:40Tapos, nainggan nyo ako.
04:41So, I did scrapbooking 1995.
04:44I still have it.
04:46So, I have over 40 to 50 journals na in scrapbooks.
04:50Wow.
04:50And then, lately, napansin ko, uy, parang nauuso siya ulit.
04:54I attended a workshop and then someone said to me, alam mo, dapat mag-workshop ka din.
05:00Kasi you can really talk to people about their experiences and you can encourage them to do this.
05:05So, after mga tatlong beses niya akong kinulit, I gave it a try.
05:10Thankfully naman, ayun, nagtalito rin na.
05:12Ayun.
05:13Ngayon, maganda i-demo sa atin ni Miss Caffey.
05:16Paano ba tayo mag-journal-journal dito?
05:19So, meron siya mga stickers, force pen.
05:23Again, ang only rule with journaling is you need pen and paper.
05:26But if you're a digital person, then your phone lang.
05:29But for pen and paper, it's any pen and paper.
05:32Hindi kailangan maganda, hindi kailangan mag-arbo.
05:34So, it can be very affordable, but it can also be very expensive.
05:38Depende na sa'yo yun.
05:40But the usual is, you have a notebook.
05:43Yeah, may notebook.
05:43And then you have your pen.
05:46Cute one.
05:47Yes, cute one.
05:48You have your sticker book.
05:50Ako, I have this kasi marami akong stickers.
05:53So, pag dinala ko silang lahat, magugula yung mundo.
05:56But I have this.
05:57And then you can also have your stamps.
06:00Ito.
06:00And then the photos.
06:01Kasi nga, I'm a memory keeper and a notepad.
06:05How do you do this?
06:06Actually, simple lang kasi wala nga general rule.
06:09So, you get a photo.
06:10This is of my family at an event.
06:13And then pwede mo ilagay lang dyan.
06:15Then I would say, get a cute notepad.
06:19Isilagay mo dito.
06:20So, kukuha ka ng isa nga.
06:22Isa.
06:23And then you write down, kailan ba ito nangyari.
06:25How did you feel when this happened.
06:29Tapos, may stamp ka.
06:30So, I have this stamp.
06:32And then, I put a stamp here.
06:34Kasi this was an event by Orng Artie ni Cathy.
06:36And then, I put my stickers na dito.
06:42Tapos, pwedeng magsusulat ka.
06:44Pwedeng i-highlight mo.
06:45Ganoon lang sya ka-simple.
06:46Like a unique moment on that day.
06:48Exactly.
06:48Memorable one.
06:50And it can take from one minute to one minute to about one hour.
06:57Depende talaga yan.
06:58Depends sa'yo.
06:59Oo.
06:59So, syempre, maglalagay ka na lang dito ng mga personal notes mo.
07:03Tapos, other examples I can show you guys is ganyan.
07:06So, it looks like a magazine.
07:08These are like mga junk journaling.
07:10So, ito, my first workshop that I did.
07:13Tapos, ito naman, I attended an event.
07:16And then, minsan naman, nakikita nyo may blank pages.
07:20Okay.
07:20I show this to tell you guys.
07:22Minsan, wala ka talaga masusulat for the day.
07:24It's okay.
07:25Yeah.
07:26Hindi kailangan araw-araw meron.
07:28So, ayan, mga ganyan lang.
07:30Mostly, really, my thoughts, what I went through,
07:34kung ano yung mga gusto kong i-keep na ano.
07:35And then, ayan, minsan may nagpapadala ng little notes sa'kin.
07:39Meron po bang a certain age group na ini-encourage yung magsimula ito?
07:43And how young can they start?
07:45I would say three and up.
07:47Wow.
07:47Kasi, kids need to be able to do things with their hands.
07:53It helps with cognitive reasoning then.
07:55And then, kahit seniors.
07:57So, my workshop, I have someone who's 67 years old.
08:01Pwede rin to sa lalaki-babae.
08:03Sa mga lalaki na nagsasabing,
08:04eh, hindi pang babae yan.
08:06And the best on top CEOs of the world na lalaki,
08:09they journal.
08:10Yes.
08:11And I've also done a workshop na mga manual laborer,
08:16yung mga participants ko.
08:17Wow.
08:1845 years old, 50 years old.
08:20Mazon.
08:21As in, nagsasemento sila.
08:22It's for productivity rin kasi, for the adult.
08:25And for you, just to relax their mind.
08:27Right.
08:27And to remind them.
08:29So, yung workshop must remind them how valuable they are at their work.
08:32It's like an extension din of your brain, eh.
08:34Exactly.
08:34Yung memory mo.
08:35So, at the end of the workshop,
08:37nakakatawating na na may mga,
08:39mga, ano tayo,
08:40matitipo ng mga lalaki na nagkakalkal ng stickers,
08:43ng papers.
08:44Yes.
08:58I would say,
08:59you can start at any time.
09:01You can start digitally.
09:02Notebook, pen, and paper again.
09:04Or, you can just put it all in your head
09:07and start whenever you want.
09:08Again, no rules.
09:10Basta, it's good for you.
09:12It will help with your mental health.
09:13Uy, baka may mga upcoming na journaling workshops.
09:16Workshops, actually.
09:17Please invite it.
09:18Yes.
09:18Yes, so I will be having a workshop in Alabang this weekend.
09:23And I will also be having another one in Pilar Las Piñas in January.

09:33So if you want to join,
09:34it's very affordable,
09:36it's fun,
09:37and it's a safe space.
09:38Alright.
09:39Paraming maraming salamat, Ma'am Cathy,
09:41sa iyong oras na ibinahagi sa amin.
09:43Yes.
