U.S. President Donald Trump says a deal to end Russia’s war in Ukraine is “closer than ever” following what he described as very good and lengthy talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European leaders. As Europe proposes a multinational force to enforce a potential peace agreement, Washington is pushing for strong U.S.-backed security guarantees while tough disagreements remain over territory and NATO membership. With negotiations intensifying and pressure mounting on Kyiv and Moscow, the world watches closely to see whether this moment could finally lead to an end to the Ukraine war.

00:00They want to see it end, Katie. They want to see it end.
00:02I want to see it end. They want to see it end.
00:05I actually think that President Putin wants to see it end.
00:09I've had good talks. We've had good talks with Russia.
00:11Well, they've already lost the territory, to be honest.
00:14I mean, the territory is lost.
00:16But in terms of security guarantee, we're working with Europe on it.
00:21Europe would be a big part of that.
00:23And things like that are going to happen.
00:24War. There's nothing pretty about war, nothing good.
00:27And there's nothing you can do to predict what's going to happen.
00:31But I think we've made a lot of progress with respect to Russia and Ukraine, I hope.
00:35Last month, it was close to 27,000 soldiers were killed.
00:40Mostly soldiers, but 27,000 people.
00:43But mostly soldiers were killed last month in Russia versus Ukraine.
00:48Half of the wars that I got settled, some were going for over 30 years.
00:52That half of them should have been more difficult.
00:54And they actually haven't been.
00:55And there's a lot of dislike between the two leaders, you know that.
00:59And so it probably makes it a little bit tough.
01:02I think that the delegation is largely there right now, actually there in Europe.
01:07And they met with those people that I called out before the various countries, plus some others.
01:12They want to see it end, Katie.

01:23You know, I've had good talks.
01:24We've had good talks with Russia.
01:25And I think they'd like to get back to a more normal way of life.
01:31Mr. President, an Article 5-like deal seems to be emerging without NATO membership for Ukraine.
01:40If such a security guarantee is offered, what incentive is there for Ukraine to give up any sort of territory?
01:46Well, look, you have, well, they've already lost the territory, you know, to be honest.
01:51I mean, they've, the territory is lost.
01:53But, but in terms of security guarantee, we're working, we're working with Europe on it.
01:58Europe would be a big part of that.
02:00And we're working on the security guarantee so the war doesn't start up again.
02:04We don't want to have a war start up again.
02:06You know, as I said, with Thailand and Cambodia, two people I get along with great.
02:13And I dealt with them and I called them and I said, look, fellas, you got to relax.
02:18You got to take it easy.
02:19They lost, you know, they started the war again.
02:21I got it ended.
02:23And things like that are going to happen.
02:25War, there's nothing, nothing pretty about war, nothing good.
02:28And there's nothing you can do to predict what's going to happen.
02:31But I think we've made a lot of progress with respect to Russia and Ukraine.
02:35I hope, I hope.
02:36You know, last, last month, it was close to 27,000 soldiers were killed, mostly soldiers.
02:43But 27,000 people, but mostly soldiers, were killed last month in Russia versus Ukraine.
02:50Is there a time limit on security guarantees?
02:52Well, there's no time limit.
02:53We're just, the time limit is whenever we get it done.
02:56I mean, we're going to try to get it done.
02:58We're making progress.
02:59It's more difficult than anybody could have thought.
03:02I would have said that half of the wars that I got settled, some were going for over 30 years,
03:08that half of them should have been more difficult.
03:10And they actually haven't been.
03:12There's a lot of dislike between the two leaders, you know, that.
03:15And so, it probably makes it a little bit tough.
