00:00From the presidential palace in Damascus to the classroom in Moscow,
00:06British newspaper The Guardian revealed that the ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad
00:12is currently studying the Russian language and reviewing his knowledge of ophthalmology
00:17in a step the report interpreted as a possible preparation
00:21to return to practicing the profession he studied before entering politics.
00:26According to the Guardian sources, al-Assad and his family are living a quiet and relatively comfortable life
00:35in one of Moscow's most upscale neighborhoods, but without any political influence or notable social presence.
00:43The Kremlin, according to the newspaper, has imposed strict restrictions on him,
00:48preventing him from making media appearances or engaging in any political activity.
00:53As for his wife, Asma al-Assad, the Guardian notes that she has recovered from leukaemia
00:59after undergoing experimental treatment in Moscow.
01:03And as for their children, they are trying to adapt to their new life in the Russian capital.
01:09It is worth noting that following the exclusive leaks published by Al Arabiya,
01:15in which al-Assad appeared mocking President Vladimir Putin in 2018,
01:19speculation arose about whether the Kremlin questioned him over those leaks
01:24and how they may have affected his status as a refugee in Russia.
