00:00Things were changing in the 60s. Things they were changing and they were
00:05changing fast. Students on the West continued in Ann Arbor. We had the
00:12Michigan murders, the campus riots, Vietnam War protesters. Abortion was
00:17illegal, pot was illegal. From sunrise to sunset, demonstrations, building seizures
00:23and takeovers. It wasn't unheard of to have violence. It was just chaos. Women
00:29felt vulnerable and helpless. Terrified of this killer. Making sure we go out we go
00:34in groups and don't go by yourself in any place. There was a big conflict with the
00:39older generation. They said we're looking among the freaks and radicals and hippie
00:43element for the killer. There's the myth of the serial killer and it's all about our
00:48fascination with monsters. To our parents generation the ideal was clean-cut, tall,
00:54handsome, join fraternities, play football. There's no way he'd be a serial killer.
