00:05assailant shot at U.S. Syrian patrol in Syria, Pentagon says.

00:12Two U.S. Army soldiers and a U.S. civilian who was serving as an interpreter were killed
00:16after shots were fired at U.S. and Syrian forces on a mission to a historic central
00:21town in Syria on Saturday, U.S. military officials said.
00:26Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X that the attack occurred as the
00:30soldiers were conducting a key leader engagement.
00:33He said three other service members were injured in the incident.
00:37Their mission was in support of ongoing counter-ISIS-slash-counterterrorism operations in the region, he said,
00:44adding that the soldiers' names, as well as identifying information about their units,
00:48will be withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin notification.
00:52This attack is currently under active investigation.
00:57U.S. Central Command said the attack was a result of an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria
01:02and that the gunman was engaged and killed.
01:05The shooting took place near Palmyra, according to Syria's state-run Sana'a News Agency,
01:11which said two members of Syria's security force were wounded.
01:14Additional information on their condition was not immediately available.
01:18No group has claimed responsibility for the attack and the identity of the gunman has not been released.
