On the statement of Gyaltsen Norbu, widely recognised by Tibetans as the Chinese-appointed Panchen Lama, that the recognition of the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama must adhere to Chinese law, Tibetan Youth Congress President, Tsering Chomphel, said, 'We were totally against his statement... It is totally against religious freedom in Tibet. And we Tibetans have our own religious traditions and methods for reincarnating the Lamas... The Chinese government is trying to politicise the tradition of reincarnation...', Member of the Tibetan parliament in exile, Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar, said, 'It was expected from him. He is someone who's been appointed by the Chinese government.'

00:00It was expected from him. He is someone who's been himself appointed by the Chinese government.
00:08We Tibetans have our own traditions in a religious way, the methods to reincarnate the Tulkers and Lama.
00:14However, the truth remains that his statement has literally got no religious authority nor any political legitimacy.
00:25It was expected from him. He is someone who's been himself appointed by the Chinese government.
00:34So he is supposed to follow the protocol that is expected out of him.
00:39However, the truth remains that his statement has literally got no religious authority nor any political legitimacy, no historical legitimacy to it.
00:51Hence, it will not be accepted by any Tibetan Buddhists or Buddhists around the world.
00:59So that is the truth.
01:01However, the statements that he's made is expected by the Chinese leadership.
01:07So he's done it.
01:08But the reality remains that the authority in terms of the reincarnation of his Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, shall be decided by himself.
01:19And we have heard on multiple records of what his Holiness wants.
01:23And it will be entirely his own decision.
01:25Nobody else, especially no one who has any sort of link with the Chinese government whatsoever.
01:34So, yes, we just nullify that statement that he's made.
01:36So what do you think, what will happen if China will do the same thing again as they have already done it in case of the Panchalama?
01:43No, they have done it in the past.
01:45We expect them to do it nonetheless.
01:48We know that the situation will be such that we will have a reincarnation that his Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama himself endorses and accepts.
01:59And that shall be followed by the acceptance of the Buddhists around the world.
02:03And we expect the Chinese government to do the same.
02:07But we know that even the Tibetans inside Tibet, despite coercion, they will not accept him.
02:12So they can do what they want.
02:16But what they want is the acceptance and the reverence of the people.
02:21And if they don't have it, where is the legitimacy there?
02:23So, well, yeah, we were totally against his statement as he mentioned that his Holiness reincarnation or the Tibetan Tulgu reincarnation should be followed by the Chinese law, which is totally against the religious freedom inside Tibet.
02:35And we Tibetans have our own traditions in a religious way, the methods to reincarnate the Tulgu and Lamas.
02:41And recently, in December 8th, in Tibet's place called Shiketze, they had the conference on the reincarnation of Tulgu and Lamas, which is in 2007, China mentioned in their white paper, the order number five, which is TYC always against that order number five.
03:03It's hint that they mentioned that all the Tulgu and Lamas should be recognized through the Chinese authority, which is totally against, and we always stand against that order number five.
03:16So, what do you think now China is trying to bring the spiritual leaders in front with such statements?
03:24Yes, now Chinese government tried to maneuver the political moments on the reincarnation, which is the reincarnation is totally different from the political angle.
03:35It's the religious moment, and which is the way we always did in the international platform and anywhere when we do advocacy on the religious freedom.
03:44It's the one thing that China always not to give the religious freedom inside Tibet, as they have passed the laws, policies against the reincarnations, and how to do walk inside the monks, and they won't allow to do the proper rituals things.
04:00So, these are the issues.
04:03China has already done it in case of Panjhan Lama. So, what will happen if they do the same thing with Dalai Lama?
04:08And yeah, one thing that the recent statement from the Kanjhan Lama, which we never considered as the Panjhan Lama, our Panjhan Lama has been adopted by the Chinese in 1995, so we never believed his statements, we never considered him as the Panjhan Lama, and our statement also mentioned that we didn't mention him as the Panjhan Lama, we just mentioned him as the monk, Kanjhan Lama.
04:30So, this is our correct statement on who is the Panjhan Lama and who is the North.
04:38Panjhan Lama and who is the Panjhan Lama and who is the North.
05:08Panjhan Lama and who is the Panjhan Lama and who is the North.
