06:24My name's Andrew, and I'm a wildlife guide at Wallsburg Wildlife Center.

06:27What does a wildlife guide do?

06:29Here at Castle Grinnell, we've helped protect endangered species.

06:32Endangered species means there aren't a lot of them left.

06:36We have about 50 different species on property,

06:39and we're looking at one of my favorite ones right now.

06:41Ooh, giraffe.

06:43We help breed giraffe and other animals like cheetahs and rhinos.

06:48They help prevent them from extinction.

06:49What do you mean?

06:51They're a combination of a couple different things,

06:53so hay, alfalfa, a little bit of corn with molasses,

06:57big sweet plants.

06:58It's sort of like candy for animals.

07:00So it is, it tastes very good.

07:02It tastes like cardboard, but you can see how the rats love it.

07:05Did you just eat a giraffe, Dallas?

07:08I did.

07:09They're not very good at things like cardboard, but they are edible.

07:12Andrew, I think you need a better lunch.

07:14I think we can't really do.

07:15Well, good thing we all have lettuce,

07:18so it's a bit healthier and a bit more tasty.

07:19What else does he eat?

07:21So giraffe can eat up to 70 pounds of food at things.

07:26They usually love eating all the trees that have.

07:29I sort of see that behind me.

07:31We have a lot of different trees that they can munch on.

07:33Hey, Andrew, what kind of animals are you looking for in the background?

07:37So those are what's called European red deer.

07:39They're whole species from the United Kingdom.

07:41They're kind of an elk.

07:42Wow, there's so many of them.

07:44Yeah.

07:44We have past kids here that's golden.

07:46A lot of different species of animals,

07:47so all the animals that live together are in a nice happy farm.

07:50Are they all friends?

07:52For the most part, yeah.

07:53You know, if there are some animals that don't get along,

07:55and that's why we keep animals in a certain area

07:57so they don't hide or do anything that we don't want them to do.

08:00So these are a parkman mountain zebra.

08:08They're a cool species of zebra from Africa.

08:11They're a bit different than your normal zebra

08:12that you would see at a typical zoo.

08:14They're a little bit shorter, a little bit stockier.

08:16That's because they love mountain climbing.

08:18They're really great climbers.

08:19What do these zebras eat?

08:21They get hay and they get alfalfa

08:24that we bring them every single day.

08:25But you can see behind me all this green stuff.

08:27They love eating, and that's what they're doing right now.

08:29They just love the zoo that we have up here on the property.

08:45And it can get really confusing,

08:47but if you were to shave a zebra,

09:01They're a cool species of antelope from Africa.

09:03And these guys are what's called pretty clean danger.

09:06So that's one of the things we work at Fossil Room

09:08is to try to get these guys back from the wild.

09:10And thanks to places like Fossil Room

09:12and zoos around the country,

09:13these guys are actually back in Africa.

09:15What if they haven't had?

09:17So those are all the dwarves.

09:18They have to protect their babies.

09:20What's really cool is the babies behind me.

09:29When they're born, they're six feet tall.

09:31You said those are baby giraffes.

09:33And they're already walking?

09:35So when these cats were born,

09:37they were up and walking about 15 minutes.

09:39It's crazy because I don't know what you were doing at 15 minutes old,

09:42but when I was 15 minutes old, I was not doing them all.
