00:00I have a niece and she's trying to learn the piano, she's trying to go to art class, she's trying to learn taekwondo, whatever, like whatever her parents fancy that she should be doing.
00:10So will she not be worse off if she were to just stop doing those things?
00:15I asked the same question once looking at a kid going to a dance class.
00:20I said all that you are teaching her is repetition of a particular physical pattern.
00:25Maybe along with that she will learn some discipline, coordination and teamwork, that's fine.
00:30But mostly what you are calling as a dance is just repetition of a pattern.
00:35What will she gain by imbibing that?
00:38And then you have to continuously rehearse, rehearse and practice and practice so that you become adept at repeating those patterns flawlessly.
00:46Am I saying all structures and everything made or composed by man is useless, futile? Not really.
00:54We said there are indeed things in art and in culture, we said literature that are indeed useful.
01:05So that distinction has to be made.
01:08That which you are sending your girl to, will it raise her consciousness or will it make her more like a machine?
01:19And that's where sports are different compared to these various so-called art forms.
01:28You have boundaries, you have rules but within those rules at least you can do things that are unpredictable.
01:35And a great art form will always allow you that unpredictability.
01:41Like a painter's canvas, there is obviously a boundary but there is freedom within that boundary.
01:48A true dance form too will give freedom to the dancer, not just regulation and discipline.
01:55You will be able to do things like that function.
02:00But after all the art forms you you can all go and find your spirit to control down.
02:05You will see you in the most part of the art form you have buried at your own.
02:09A true dance form of art form is a great art form.
