00:00It's strange because we didn't lose that many, but it is, I think, a moment as well to reflect
00:07and have some perspective about what we are doing.
00:11First of all, when you look at the reaction of the players when they are on the floor
00:16and the pain and what I felt in that moment seeing them because I know how much they put in
00:22and how much they wanted, it is difficult, but as well is a reflection of who we are
00:27and what we want to get and this has to help us to be a better team, to learn the lesson,
00:33to value what we are doing, first of all, as well, because with all the difficulties that we have
00:37from the start of the season, where we are in the position where we are both in the Champions League
00:42and the Premier League is where we want to be and understand that you have to earn it every single day
00:48and the margins are very, very small.
00:52Sometimes it can not be ideal to have a game so close because of recovery and injury,
00:57but in this case, is it a good thing that you can get back to winning ways?
01:01Absolutely, and especially when you play a competition like the Champions League
01:04and how much we want to continue to do with the job that we have started in the first five games
01:10and tomorrow we are going to have a really tough match against an opponent here
01:13that especially at home has been very, very good.
01:17They have a new manager, a new manager always brings new energy, new ideas,
01:21so we have prepared for that as well and tomorrow we have to show again that we are right at the top
01:27and be better than the opponent to beat them.
01:30The news came earlier that Gabriel Deuce has been brought back into the Champions League squad
01:34in place of a moment because of an injury. Can you tell us about that situation?
01:38Yeah, so first of all with Max, unfortunately he picked an injury last weekend
01:45and he had to come off, so we did some scans and he's going to be out for weeks.
01:52And then we have the situation of Gaby, which we expect him to be training with us by the end of December,
01:58but Gaby has been pushing every single day and he kept telling everybody I'm going to be earlier, earlier, earlier,
02:04and he has done it.
02:06So thanks to his work and all the work that the medical staff have done with him throughout these months
02:10and we had the possibility to make a swap there. We've done it.
02:16And yeah, on one side you see obviously Max and his situation,
02:20and I want to see obviously the joy and how happy Gaby is to be back in this competition with us.
02:25And just finally, from the on, Declan Rice, Williams-Liever and Leandro Acosta,
02:31they weren't pictured in training today, they're available for the game tomorrow?
02:34No. So Declan was ill, so he's been, he was quite sick after the game already.
02:41And he hasn't traveled with us. William is still not available.
02:45And Leo again, he picked another knot in an area where he had the previous issue.
02:52And I don't expect that it's going to be long, but unfortunately he cannot be with us.
02:57Okay, question.
02:58Hi, coach. How did you follow the recent events at Bruges with the new manager?
03:05And was it, did it came as a surprise for you guys? And what to do, does it affect your preparations?
03:12Yeah, well, obviously you start to look at all the games and analyze the manager and their identity.
03:19And obviously the last performance that they had both in the Champions League and in domestic competition.
03:24And in the afternoon we get the news that they have a new manager.
03:28So you have to adapt. It's not the first time that we are facing this situation.
03:33So, okay, start to think about what the possibilities are, look at his past.
03:37And start to obviously focus much more on what we have to do, the key things that we have to do to be able to adapt in relation to what they do,
03:47especially in terms of their formation and the players that they're going to pick.
03:50And after focus, you know, says what we have to do to be better than them to win the game.
03:55Charlie, things on.
03:56Mikel, how frustrating is it that you keep picking up these sort of injuries with so many players coming back?
04:02And for a variety of reasons. I mean, how frustrating is it?
04:05Yeah, a big one. I mean, losing Max again, it's obviously not an idea with Leo that he's just coming back,
04:11that we have to manage the minutes. Willy is still not there. We lost big Gabby.
04:14And we have other players that they could only play certain minutes, like, for example, Ricky the other day.
04:21But it's a situation that we have. We have managed that since the beginning of the season.
04:26We are in December, so it's almost five months in a remarkable way.
04:30And we're going to continue to do the same.
04:31I mean, is it bad luck? I mean, is it fatigue or intensity of training or, you know, why do you think?
04:39No, training not because we don't have time to train. So training is not there.
04:43But obviously, the fact that you are missing players, you are loading other players more.
04:48That's a consequence to that. And it's a really dangerous circle, that one.
04:52And on top of that, we have some injuries that, OK, in terms of what happened in the past,
04:57we are not having more injuries. The fact that we had some others that are long term,
05:01that they haven't been with us since the beginning of the season.
05:04But as well, it's a test for the team. And so far, we have reacted very, very well to that.
05:11Sam Telegraph.
05:12Hi, Michael. Just on Max, obviously, he's so young.
05:15How worrying is it that he's picked up an injury that seems to be quite serious if it's weeks?
05:22Part of the journey. I mean, at some point when you play at this level,
05:28when you play in the position that he plays, when you play the manner that he plays,
05:33it was going to happen.
05:34And it happened, one, that, OK, he's not ideal. He picked up weeks.
05:38He could have been worse and learned from it.
05:41And now use this time as well to continue to improve in his education,
05:48in everything that is related to professional football, his habits,
05:51the way he needs to develop his physicality as well to be with us,
05:54the understanding of the game.
05:56Sometimes when you are away from the game, you say,
05:58I cannot really live without it and how important it is.
06:01So use those moments as well to get a reflection of where you are as well
06:07and give you a better force to go forward.
06:11Ed, Guardian.
06:12Michael, just on the injuries, I mean, I know you spent a lot of money in the summer,
06:16but obviously they're mounting up, especially in defence.
06:19Is there any chance that you could look to go into the market again,
06:21bring some more players in January?
06:23At the moment, we're just focusing on bringing the players back
06:27and hopefully it will be a matter of weeks and we know how important those weeks are going to be
06:32because we're going to come into the period where a lot of things start to get defined in that period
06:40and hopefully we're going to have those players back.
06:44Tom from Reach.
06:44Hi, Mikel.
06:45We obviously saw Christian Norgard coming in the summer
06:48and his minutes this season have been slightly limited.
06:50That place in the squad perhaps replacing Jorginho last season
06:54who brought experience and also played a lot as well.
06:57Is there a plan behind Norgard's minutes
07:00and how he might get exposure in this game or future games
07:03and would you have liked to use him more than maybe he has done so far?
07:06Yes, but I'm really happy when he's brought to the club, especially to the team
07:11and every time that we need him to do in many areas, not only NDPs, what he has to do,
07:17he excels in the manner that we expected.
07:21And yeah, it's very similar to Ben White or Mike's.
07:25They haven't played probably more than expected
07:26and sometimes when he's because others are performing at that level,
07:31I think it's a positive for the team.
07:33A little bit more difficult for the individual, but very, very positive for the team.
07:37You faced a lot of questions already today on injuries.
07:40I wonder if you could settle a debate that we've been having between us
07:43and that's if you could choose one Arsenal player that would never get injured,
07:47who would that player be?
07:48I leave that to you.
07:49You can guys enjoy that conversation.
07:51Gary Times.
07:53Mikel, you're talking about the dangerous circle of players
07:57that are kind of playing a lot and they're maybe getting injured.
07:59Would you, I mean, is this a week perhaps where you could look to rotate
08:02because you've got quite a set of fixtures coming up now
08:06between Liverpool and next month.
08:08You've got Villa.
08:09So would this week be something you might look at tomorrow night to kind of rotate?
08:14Yeah, we try to have the freshness in the squad
08:16and the players in the best conditions to perform at the highest level.
08:20For example, Victor's injury.
08:22We are missing another two nights.
08:23So Victor played every minute.
08:25He's come back almost without a preseason.
08:27At some point he got injured.
08:28But then Mikel had to do that role because Leo as well wasn't fit
08:31or Martinelli wasn't fit.
08:33And you could see Mikel at the weekend that he needed some help
08:36because he was out of gas.
08:38So that's the consequence of not having other players.
08:41But the good thing, again, is the way we have managed so far to do that.
08:45We have now, after this, a clean week, which we haven't had for many, many weeks
08:50and hopefully so players back.
08:52So that will be good oxygen for the team.
08:54Issan Dalimau.
08:55Hi, Mikel.
08:56So since the start of last season, there's been 93 injuries at Arsenal
08:59across the Premier League.
09:00Only Brighton have got more than 97.
09:03Is that just luck?
09:06What do you think is the reason behind it?
09:08Because obviously it's a very big toll compared to the teams in the league.
09:12Yeah, well, I think you have to separate the kind of injuries that they are.
09:15And some of them have been long-term and acute injuries,
09:19especially with some of the key players that keep you a lot of days out.
09:25But, yeah, it's something that we are constantly looking at.
09:29As I said as well, we have played a lot of games with a lot of players missing,
09:33which puts a lot of stress and then more injuries.
09:36But we are on it and I'm really happy what we're doing in terms of our stuff
09:41and everything that we are trying to bring together.
09:43But sometimes as well, we need some things to go on our side.
09:47When you have looked into it, what are the main takeaways that you've got
09:49from your findings from that last season in terms of the amount of injuries?
09:54Because it's not only one season.
09:56It's as well some of the players that they have played over 150 games in two seasons.
10:01You know, so it starts to get overloaded
10:03and you start to ask them again and again and again to do that.
10:05At some points they will bring downs.
10:08And I know this because as well, the moment that you have an injury,
10:12you are more likely to have another injury, especially long-term injuries.
10:16And that's been a consequence in some of the players as well.
10:19So we are on it.
10:20OK, we'll do the last two.
10:21Phil at the back from PA.
10:22Sorry, Mikel, one more on the injuries.
10:25There's been a suggestion that it's because the players are being over-trained.
10:28I know you were sort of asked that earlier, but you just refute that.
10:31You don't believe that that's the case?
10:33No, because we don't train.
10:34I mean, today we've done 20 minutes.
10:37So surely it's not because we over-trained the players.
10:39I just want on Victor as well.
10:42He's been on the bench for the past three games.
10:45Is tomorrow a good opportunity for him to start, do you think,
10:47and maybe get a goal?
10:49Yeah, we have to continue to manage his minutes.
10:52He played 45 minutes the other day.
10:54And let's see how everybody is tomorrow and make that decision.
10:58OK, finally to Nick.
10:59Shout, Nick.
10:59I think he needed more a bet than sunshine
11:12because he wasn't feeling good at all.
11:16So, yeah, he will have a couple of days to rest and to get his body right.
11:20But today already he was very keen to be able to play.
11:25And unfortunately, he's not able to do that.
11:27OK, good night.
11:28Everyone say it's more.
