00:00My home and assaulted me so badly that I required reconstructive surgery to fix my physical wounds.
00:09Following the assault, I then suffered many years of post-separation abuse at the hands of my ex and his family and friends.
00:22And during this time is when the debt that my ex had got me into finally caught up with me.
00:31So I was not only trying to recover physically and emotionally, I then had to deal with the debt.
00:39I would contact the debt companies and tell them that I had been the victim of financial abuse, but they just told me I was liable for the debt because it was in my name.
00:50And so for many years, I used a debt charity to start paying the debt off monthly.
00:58And I'd been doing so for about seven years, but I still had 16 years of monthly payments before I would be debt free.
