00:00Life-changing prize.
00:01Can't believe we're here.
00:03Stunning.
00:04Book a desk for you, Brett.
00:05Welcome to the best bed and breakfast.
00:08The keys to their own dream five-bedroom B&B.
00:14Four expert judges put them under the spotlight.
00:19Slightly chaotic, as they say, up north.
00:22The competition has been so tough this week.
00:24They did drop the ball pretty, pretty, pretty badly.
00:28Whoa.
00:28Across two weeks, they hosted real guests
00:31and tackled intense challenges every day.
00:35Whoa.
00:36Look at it. Stop asking me questions.
00:38I've posed it all up again.
00:40Right, we have a problem.
00:41At which point do we start to panic?
00:44Now, six couples have become four.
00:47No!
00:49Actually, actually, you're all right.
00:53Thank you so much.
00:54This week, the final four will be pushed to their limits.
00:59They have to do everything right this week.
01:02The competition is fiercer than ever.
01:04Now you're real on the Zahia.
01:06How do you spell team love?
01:07Breast forgotten tomatoes.
01:09Don't panic.
01:10Because at the end of this week,
01:12someone will walk away with a new life in France.
01:16You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:24Fenier, a rustic village tucked away in the limousine in central France,
01:29where four couples are about to be put to the ultimate test,
01:34as they prove they have the skills needed to run a professional B&B.
01:39At the end of this week,
01:42one of them will walk away with the keys to a new home and business.
01:48We've grafted, haven't we, for God knows how many years to get what we've got,
01:52but this is what we want.
01:53We are going to put our heart and soul into this, aren't we?
01:57Childhood sweethearts from Barnsley, Michelle and Steve.
02:00How pretty is this?
02:04I am quite emotional about it all,
02:06because it's our last chapter almost, isn't it, in our lives?
02:09It's not our last chapter, it's our destiny.
02:11All right, then.
02:13Chocolate box.
02:14It's like a chocolate box top.
02:16Yeah, and where the chocolate's in it.
02:20Belfast couple Nicole and Brett
02:22hope to start a new life with their young family.
02:26This journey has been like a whirlwind.
02:28I think we still need to pinch ourselves that we're in the final.
02:33Oh, hello, how are you?
02:34Hello.
02:35How are you doing?
02:36How are you doing?
02:38We are really, really serious about moving to France
02:41and starting a new life here.
02:43We're just passionate about creating this family-run B&B.
02:48It'll be a dream come true.
02:51Devon Bakers, Nicola and Roy
02:53are looking to swap pasties for patisseries.
02:55The dream is absolutely alive for us right now.
03:00We wanted it before, but, my God, we wanted it now.
03:02We wanted it more now.
03:03Oh, yeah.
03:05Hiya.
03:06How are you doing?
03:07I'm good.
03:08Nicola.
03:08Nice to meet you.
03:09Hello, how are you doing?
03:10I think it's our time of life,
03:12and to be in charge of our own destiny,
03:14in charge of our own business,
03:16I just, I'm so looking forward to the challenge.
03:18It's a big thing, isn't it?
03:19Are you scared?
03:20And design gurus from Hertfordshire
03:26partners Justin and Paul.
03:29It's come together, and it's now, isn't it?
03:32Yeah.
03:32We're like, we're ready.
03:33Yeah.
03:34It's just time that we do it for ourselves.
03:37Hi, guys.
03:38Hi, guys.
03:39If we put our heads together,
03:46there's amazing stuff.
03:47If we're given the financial opportunity to do it,
03:51then it's for real, and it's bigger than ever.
03:53What do you think meant at Village?
03:55It's really nice.
03:56Beautiful, isn't it?
03:56It's really nice.
03:57Well, I can't wait to welcome you to our lovely home in the village.
04:01Watch this space.
04:04Four couples, one shared dream.
04:07The final showdown starts here.
04:11Oh, look.
04:12Hey, hey.
04:15Guys, welcome to finals week.
04:24You've done it.
04:26It's down to you four couples.
04:29And one lucky couple will have a key
04:34to an amazing B&B in France at the end of the week.
04:38This could be the beginning of a new life in France,
04:42a new life entirely.
04:46Are you ready for this fight?
04:48Yeah.
04:49Are you up for the challenge?
04:51Absolutely.
04:52Bring it on.
04:54Who would like to see the dream house?
04:56Come on.
04:57You've been standing in front of it the whole time.
05:03Whoa.
05:05Oh, my God.
05:05This really is a life-changing moment.
05:18It's the most incredible prize.
05:22Who wants to see inside?
05:24Once a bustling village hotel,
05:31this five-bedroom, three-bathroom property
05:33now awaits the right hosts to write its next chapter.
05:39Oh, my God.
05:41Has he even got a bath?
05:42Oh, my God.
05:44Oh, my God.
05:46This is really nice, isn't it?
05:48I'm lost for words.
05:50I want it so, so bad.
05:52You know, I think I found my home.
05:55Oh, my God.
06:00Have you seen them?
06:00I'm going to cry.
06:03My God.
06:04You and me could be living here.
06:06We will be living here.
06:07On the ground floor,
06:10an open-plan reception and dining space,
06:14adjoining a traditional farmhouse kitchen
06:16with ample space for guests.
06:19I can just imagine me being here, can you?
06:22Yes.
06:22Like, going into my ice.
06:23What would you like?
06:24Do you want to scramble, boil, poached?
06:27And there's surprises at every corner.
06:31It's a dungeon or something?
06:33That's like a wine cellar.
06:34Oh, a wine cellar!
06:35I have never, ever, ever...
06:38A wine cellar.
06:39A wine cellar.
06:39Well, you wouldn't have Northern Ireland, love.
06:42Upstairs, the vastness of the property begins to unfold.
06:47Oh, surprise.
06:50I guess this is just really playing into everything
06:52that we've been thinking about already, doesn't it?
06:55It's kind of bringing it even more to life.
06:58As well as a sitting room...
07:00It's a bit springy.
07:04Five exquisite bedrooms and three bathrooms...
07:08What's in here?
07:08Oh, dressing room.
07:10Wow.
07:11..are guest ready.
07:14Oh, God.
07:17Isn't this beautiful?
07:19Honestly, I love the area as well.
07:21I'd happily live out.
07:23The second floor reveals more rooms and attic space
07:28ripe for development.
07:31Oh, look.
07:31Wow.
07:31This is our suite.
07:32Are you thinking for us?
07:34Is this our bedroom?
07:35I'm thinking for us.
07:36All those pictures that we've collected of the French dream...
07:39Yeah.
07:39..has finally come to realisation.
07:40If that wasn't enough, beyond the garden
07:44is this magnificent barn,
07:46giving infinite possibilities for their future business.
07:50I think what you could do in here...
07:52Oh, I know already.
07:54Small, intimate weddings.
07:55Yeah.
07:56I think this would be better as a cookery school or restaurant.
07:59I think space is good for gatherings.
08:02Yeah.
08:02To bring the community here.
08:04For us to get to know everyone.
08:05Yeah.
08:06Wouldn't this be nice as to you, Steve?
08:08It'd be nice as a big garage.
08:09I don't think so.
08:13For all the finalists,
08:14the new life in France they've dreamed of
08:17is now tantalisingly close.
08:20The best dream you've ever had.
08:22Times this plus a million.
08:24And you still wouldn't get close to this.
08:26It is fabulous.
08:27It's huge.
08:28And there's so much potential here.
08:30It's going to be amazing.
08:32It makes us think we can do this.
08:35Make our hopes and dreams even bigger than we'd thought.
08:37We can imagine living here.
08:40Running a B&B in this beautiful village.
08:43This is it, innit?
08:44This is what we want.
08:45This is the lie.
08:48But the hosts can't get too carried away.
08:52To win this B&B,
08:53they must prove they have the passion,
08:55skill and vision to make it thrive.
08:58And the judges have set the ultimate challenge.
09:02Oh, no.
09:04Here we go.
09:05Here we go again.
09:06Do you think that might be a late birthday card?
09:09Throw that away.
09:11A golden envelope.
09:12Let's have a little read.
09:13Each couple will run the prize house for 24 hours.
09:17You will get the keys at 1pm on the day of check-in.
09:21While you're hosting with B&B,
09:22you will have three bedrooms occupied by guests.
09:25You'll need to provide a three-course dinner at 6.30pm.
09:29And we ask you eat with your guests.
09:32We would also ask if you could provide a welcome gift in the rooms,
09:38something that reminds the judges who you are from the heat weeks.
09:43They'll never forget us anyway, will they?
09:46Breakfast must be served the following day at 8.30pm.
09:49And the guests must check out at 10am.
09:52After checkout,
09:53you will host an excursion for your guests,
09:56doing an activity that relates to your B&B USP.
10:00For the rest of the week,
10:01you will be sampling the local area
10:04to get inspiration for your business plan.
10:07And at the end of the week,
10:09you'll present a business plan for your B&B to the judges.
10:13That's going to be tough.
10:16The judges' challenge is designed to push them further than ever
10:20and reveal which couple has what it takes to make a success.
10:26The hosts may think that this week's going to be a walk in the park,
10:32but they've got a very, very short window of time
10:35to prove just how good they are.
10:38We need to know what their USP is.
10:41How are they going to make a business like this work?
10:43Do they suit this area?
10:45They need to find that one thing or those few things
10:49that are really going to drive people to them
10:52to have a buoyant business, especially.
10:56It's a really crowded market out there.
10:59You've got to stand out in it somehow.
11:01So that's what they've got to work out.
11:05For three couples,
11:07the race is on to uncover what the area has to offer
11:09and build a business plan to impress the judges.
11:14But one couple are about to take the reins of the prize house
11:17and guess who's coming for dinner?
11:21Your guests will be judges.
11:23Nicola, Eva, Andrew and Brennan.
11:25Oh, brilliant.
11:25Your favourite boys.
11:26Oh, my God.
11:27I can't believe it.
11:28It's Nicola and Roy's time to shine
11:32and the stakes couldn't be higher.
11:35Just 24 hours to rise to the challenge
11:37or see their dreams slip away.
11:4090% of the time I feel really confident that we'll do it
11:43and then 10% they go well by
11:45and think we'll never do this.
11:46Don't be well, like, well, I'll do it.
11:47I know, but I can't help it because I doubt it sometimes.
11:50Look at that beautiful home we're going to get.
11:52You hope we're going to get.
11:54Well, I'll get it. I hope so.
11:58It's finals week in the Limousin
12:06and the competition to win this prize of a lifetime is ramping up.
12:11Over the next four days,
12:13each host will take up residence here for 24 hours
12:16and host the judges as their guests.
12:22This week, the focus won't be on changeovers or room inspections,
12:26but the hosts' hospitality skills
12:28to help the judges decide
12:30who is best suited to call this place home.
12:35You only rarely get to know somebody
12:36when you spend time with them
12:38and spend time in their home.
12:40But then, of course, in 24 hours,
12:42it's a tall order to impress us.
12:45But I'm not so worried personally
12:47about branding or what they're doing.
12:51I now want to see what they are like as hosts.
12:55There's going to be nowhere to hide this week.
12:57We want to look for passionate couples
13:00who are eager to win this house
13:03and run it as a B&B and really want to do this.
13:06It's the people that make it.
13:08And if you don't feel warm and comfortable with the people,
13:12you're not going to tell your friends about it
13:15and you're not going to go back.
13:18Nicola and Roy are first to take the reins.
13:21They're out shopping at a local market
13:23in preparation for an intense day ahead.
13:27I need some more veg.
13:28OK.
13:29Oh, there's veg down there.
13:31Yeah, OK.
13:32Providing dinner for guests
13:33is a vital income source for B&Bs.
13:37The judges are looking for who can provide a meal
13:39and an atmosphere that keeps guests coming back.
13:43Just for your panic.
13:45Merci.
13:45Oh, apple sauce.
13:48In Heat Week, these hosts came under fire
13:50for not living up to their titles as chefs.
13:53So Nicola and Roy must now prove
13:56that they've listened to feedback
13:57with a menu rooted in culinary skills
14:00and classic French tradition.
14:03I think we've learned a lot in Heat Week.
14:05I really do mean that.
14:07We've never done it before,
14:08but I know where we tripped up
14:11and we'll definitely not trip up this week.
14:13We know there was a few mistakes last time,
14:16but this time we're far better prepared.
14:20You don't do black pudding?
14:22Black pudding?
14:23Black pudding?
14:24No.
14:24OK.
14:25I think the biggest improvement is the locally sourced food.
14:29We really slipped up on that,
14:31but we want to be able to go to the table
14:33and present the judges with meals
14:35and say, this is from a local butchers.
14:38Bonjour.
14:39Bonjour.
14:39I speak English.
14:40You're all right.
14:41OK, that's good.
14:43Thank goodness for that.
14:44Thank goodness for that.
14:45Do you do Toulouse sausage meat?
14:49We're making cassoulet, sausage cassoulet.
14:51We're trying to make sure we look
14:53for locally sourced ingredients as much as possible.
14:57They're local?
14:58Simon and I have a party,
14:59just a little bit butchering.
15:00That's a little bit.
15:01And we're only about 15 minutes down the road.
15:03Oh, very good.
15:04Well, we can't get much lookerier than that.
15:06No, definitely not.
15:08Everyone might describe us as lovely,
15:10but being lovely isn't going to win the competition.
15:12We've got to work hard to really impress them.
15:15I have a few things up my sleeve,
15:18a couple of game changers.
15:20So, yeah, we'll let the mystery do its work.
15:24That will win your judges over.
15:25And we will come and show up with you
15:26when we win our B&B.
15:28Yeah, we will.
15:28Take care.
15:29Bye-bye.
15:30Bye.
15:30The judges will be pleased with local produce, yeah.
15:33They'll be looking for that most important thing.
15:35They will be looking for it, yeah.
15:36Definitely.
15:39As Nicola and Roy begin the 24 hours
15:41that could change their lives,
15:43Michelle and Steve are kick-starting
15:45their research of the area.
15:48They're going to check into a successful B&B
15:50to find out how to survive in a crowded market.
15:57I wonder what sort of B&B it is.
15:59I know.
16:00Do you know what I mean?
16:01Is it a posh one?
16:02Is it just a normal one?
16:04Well, I'm getting a bit jittery.
16:08Michelle and Steve have stood out in the competition
16:10for their originality.
16:12Now they need to turn that into a business plan.
16:16This luxury treehouse,
16:18built in the grounds of a chateau by Nat and Andy,
16:21shows how being unique can really sell.
16:23Hello!
16:25Wow!
16:27Hello!
16:29Hi, nice to meet you.
16:30Hi, Natalie.
16:31Should we show you on up?
16:32Show you where you're staying?
16:34Yes.
16:34Yes, exciting.
16:36Well, not in the chateau.
16:38Sorry.
16:39OK.
16:40Is this it?
16:45Yeah.
16:45Oh, my God, look at this.
16:48How unique is that?
16:52Right, come on, let's have a look round then.
16:55I love that.
16:55Have you made it?
16:56Yeah.
16:57Have you made it?
16:58Yeah.
16:59Wow.
16:59This is what I do.
17:01This is my bit.
17:02Yeah, the decor.
17:03Andy does all the...
17:04Handy bits, yeah.
17:06Oh, Steve!
17:08Oh, this is amazing.
17:10Oh, look at this for kids.
17:11Mind your head, Steve.
17:13Wow.
17:14I'll tell you what, it's clever.
17:15Yeah.
17:16If we're not moving out, we're stopping.
17:19So we'll leave you to get settled in
17:21and we'll check back in with you a bit later on.
17:23Enjoy.
17:24Thank you very much.
17:27It's luxury.
17:28The champagne.
17:30Yeah.
17:30With the...
17:30Ball of fruit, fresh flowers.
17:32It's just enough.
17:33Of course it is.
17:33It's that thought that's gone into it.
17:36I love this touch.
17:37I do.
17:37Because this touch happens in posh hotels...
17:40Yeah, it does.
17:40..and cruise ships.
17:42Yeah, it does.
17:43So we're going to pinch that idea.
17:44As a team, they've really come together good
17:46because he builds it and she does all the interior.
17:50A bit like us, really.
17:52While Michelle and Steve gather ideas for their dream...
17:55For Nicola and Roy,
17:59their one chance of making it a reality begins now
18:02as they take the keys to the prize house.
18:09Home sweet home.
18:11Yay!
18:11I'm packing, get started.
18:14Yeah.
18:15In just three hours, the judges will be knocking at their door.
18:20Oh.
18:21That's it on now.
18:22Tonight, they'll be tested on their cooking and hosting skills,
18:26but there's no room for error.
18:29The unique selling point is very, very important.
18:33You've got to have a really, really pinpointed message
18:37about who you're marketing to.
18:38Roy's a baker.
18:40Yeah, I'd love to see some baking happen
18:42and I'd love to see that tied in to their USP.
18:47Our welcome gift is Irish soda breads
18:49with homemade strawberry jam.
18:52Because last time we did the cookery class,
18:55we made soda bread,
18:56but stupidly we didn't put it out the next morning
18:59for breakfast.
19:00They have a skill set,
19:03which we didn't really get to see
19:06as much of as we thought we would.
19:08You know, Roy is a professional baker.
19:10And Nicola's a very good cook.
19:12What we saw in the heats was Nicola baking and Roy cooking.
19:16Yeah, I couldn't really work that one out.
19:19Right.
19:19What are you for you to make?
19:21I was going to do the soda bread and scones,
19:23but you're going to do scones?
19:24I'm doing the soda bread and scones,
19:25which we discussed earlier.
19:28They'll have you in the kitchen doing the scones.
19:31How do you spell team, love?
19:33That's right, there's no I in it.
19:35I'll do the scones.
19:36I'm meant to be the chef.
19:38What are you doing scones in?
19:41You got my recipe?
19:42Stick your recipe.
19:44You're a huffy.
19:47I think there was a lot of bickering the last time.
19:49That's because they were doing it the wrong way around.
19:51Yeah, I know.
19:53Oh, now I'm happy.
19:54I can feel flour.
19:57You're a weirdo.
19:58You really are a weirdo.
20:00In finals week, the rooms are prepped and guest-ready
20:03because the judges aren't testing their cleaning,
20:06it's their hosting, warmth and culinary skills
20:09that are up for scrutiny.
20:11I'll start on the creme brulee.
20:13I wouldn't try and press ever.
20:15She's French.
20:16I'm too scared.
20:18I won't even ask her if she likes it or not.
20:19While Nicola and Roy are knee-deep in dinner prep,
20:25Justin and Paul are out gathering key information
20:28to set their business plan apart.
20:30The key thing is you have to know where you're living.
20:33You certainly can set up a business
20:35and advise people as to where to go and what to do
20:38if you don't know it.
20:40They've made no secret of wanting a design-led B&B,
20:44and just 30 minutes from the prize house is Aubusson.
20:48This town is world-famous for its tapestry,
20:52and they're keen to make connections
20:53at the Aubusson Tapestry Museum.
20:58Hello.
20:58Hi, I'm Justin.
21:00I'm Jean-Philippe.
21:01Nice to meet you both.
21:01Nice to meet you.
21:03Here in Aubusson,
21:04we have this long tradition of tapestry making.
21:07In the museum, we have more than almost 60,000 visitors,
21:10so it's like one of the main visiting sites here.
21:13We're super excited to get a tour around.
21:19You have here the most ancient tapestry of our collection.
21:23This one dates from, actually, the 15th century.
21:26Amazing, isn't it?
21:27Some very iconic imagery as well.
21:29You will see when we go across
21:30that we will have more colours, we'll have more details,
21:33and you will see up to the maximum power,
21:35I would say, of the tapestry medium.
21:37You do have to remind yourself that it's a needle and thread
21:42rather than paint and a brush.
21:44To think it's here, really, this tiny little town,
21:48it's really fantastic.
21:51But it's the museum's contemporary collections
21:54that are sparking ideas for both their creativity
21:57and their business plan.
21:59It almost looks like, to me, you know, like a spray painting.
22:02A new project with Oscar-winning Japanese animator
22:06Hayao Miyazaki could be set to bring international tourism
22:10to the area and the door of their B&B.
22:14People were always amazed that we are collaborating with Tio Ghibli
22:17because now we have kids, young kids,
22:19and they are the ones that bring their parents.
22:22Which I think would be really interesting for us
22:24because then it gives us the opportunity
22:26to broaden our audience.
22:27So here you see the weaving of the fifth tapestry
22:34from the Miyazaki project.
22:36Everything is handmade,
22:37so they are going to do 31 square metres like this.
22:41Wow.
22:41So there will be a big unveiling
22:43in Aubusson at the Cité next summer.
22:46So that will be good for us, won't it,
22:49to draw in if we win the B&B.
22:52Especially Japanese tourists,
22:53so I hope we learn Japanese by then.
22:55This is going to be a lot.
22:56As well as French.
22:57Yeah, exactly.
22:59It was incredible.
23:00Anybody that's interested in the creative field
23:03would love this.
23:04And it connects as well with us, doesn't it?
23:07Yeah.
23:07And what we've researched
23:08and what we want to bring to the table.
23:11It's a weaving distance.
23:12Weaving distance, I like that one.
23:14Meanwhile, at the prize house...
23:22Voila.
23:23..it's the calm before the storm for Nicola and Roy.
23:27Wrapping up the soda breads for the judges
23:29with a little message on it.
23:32Do you want to read one out?
23:33We're not trying to butter you up,
23:34but you really are the loaf of Roy's life.
23:38I think it's a cracker.
23:41It's brilliant. Love it.
23:42But very soon,
23:44they'll be welcoming
23:45the most important guests of their lives.
23:49I'm excited.
23:50Who's in the judges tonight?
23:52But we have to be professional and friendly.
23:55These guys do it for a living.
23:56We're only starting it.
23:57These guys could change our lives.
23:59Well, absolutely.
24:01What time is it?
24:03It's a quarter to four.
24:04The countdown is over.
24:08The time to be ready is now.
24:11I need to go up to the rooms for the calm.
24:14The judges are already on their way.
24:18And Nicola and Roy's destiny rests entirely with them.
24:22The pressure's really on for them now.
24:26Emotions will be running high.
24:28They've only got 24 hours to prove they're the ones that need to be here.
24:32Roy!
24:33The oven went off.
24:34The pastry's all sunk on the tomatoes.
24:36It's a make or break this week for them.
24:39So either they'll be the winners or they'll be going home empty-handed.
24:45There's four very different couples.
24:47Each one could potentially win this.
24:49And at this point, it's...
24:52It's anybody's game.
24:53It's anybody's game.
24:53I wouldn't like to be in their shoes at the moment.
24:58So grab it and go for it.
25:02Exactly.
25:02No, don't open it.
25:04It's going too quick.
25:05I know, but it's going too quick.
25:06Roy, it hasn't even started.
25:07The oven went off because the timer stopped.
25:20In the limousine, it's Nicola and Roy's time to shine
25:24as the intense scrutiny begins.
25:27We're all together.
25:28Hello.
25:29Hello there.
25:30Come in.
25:32I'm in our house.
25:33Nice to see you.
25:35Hello.
25:35You too.
25:36What do you think?
25:37Oh, absolutely beautiful.
25:38What do you think?
25:39Couldn't ask for more.
25:40Can you pick on yourself living in the house?
25:41Yes, absolutely.
25:43We'll move down.
25:43That's it.
25:45Their warm hosting style carried them to the finals.
25:49So will we check into your rooms then?
25:50Yeah.
25:51Fabulous.
25:52Come on ahead.
25:53But now the judges want proof they have the fire to turn it into a business.
25:58This is your room tonight.
26:00Oh, lovely.
26:01Oh, fantastic.
26:03And your own bathroom?
26:04Oh, sweet.
26:05Excellent.
26:05And there's some water for you and some homemade treats from us.
26:08Oh, thank you.
26:10We'll let you settle into your room and we've got scones and tea and coffee downstairs when
26:14you're ready to come down.
26:15Homemade.
26:16Yeah, of course.
26:17What we like to hear.
26:20Nicola and Roy are putting their culinary skills front and centre, a tactic that nearly derailed
26:26them in heat week.
26:28And this is your room, Eva?
26:30This is yours.
26:30Oh, lovely.
26:31So there's no en-suite but the bathroom's just next door.
26:34It's a shared bathroom.
26:35And there's your little water station again.
26:38Oh, thank you.
26:38Oh, you made it.
26:41Well, Nicola made it.
26:41So we'll let you settle in and then you can come downstairs and we've got homemade scones
26:49and tea and coffee.
26:50Oh, I love scoing.
26:51Can't wait.
26:51All righty.
26:52You're welcome.
26:52See you later.
26:53All righty.
26:53Bye.
26:55Bye, Nicola.
26:57This is your room this evening.
26:58Oh, this is lovely.
27:01Soda bread.
27:03Oh, and it's got a message on us.
27:04This bread isn't sweet, but we hope it's up to your high standards.
27:11Thank you very much.
27:12Whenever you're getting packed or whatever's settled in, just come on down when you're ready.
27:16Okay?
27:17Thank you so much.
27:18All right, take care.
27:19Gorgeous smells coming from up those stairs.
27:21Oh, thank you.
27:23Oh, the little welcome guest is incredibly welcome, especially with scones as well downstairs.
27:28I feel we're being quite spoilt.
27:31Nicola.
27:36Nicola.
27:37Ready for a cuppa?
27:38I'm definitely ready for a cuppa.
27:41A pot of tea there for you.
27:43Hello.
27:44How are you?
27:45Good, thank you.
27:46I smell coffee.
27:49The scones coming in, the baking, the smell of cooking in the house.
27:52It's their signature, isn't it?
27:54Yeah.
27:54And it's such an engaging signature.
27:57It's welcoming.
27:58They really do give of the vibe that we've known them forever.
28:03Your scones are delicious.
28:04I need jam.
28:05So I've got a question for you, Nicola, about the jams.
28:07Is this something that you do at home?
28:09It is.
28:09So when I make them at home and people buy them or friends have them and stuff and, yeah,
28:14it's always that little jammy pie.
28:15Jammico creations.
28:17I think they've really improved from week one, actually.
28:21They felt really comfortable and at ease and it just felt like they were running their
28:26own business in their own home, I think, which makes such a big difference.
28:29I'm just really excited to see what's next.
28:32Are we allowed to ask what's for dinner?
28:33Yes.
28:34For dinner is a starter of tart to tam.
28:38For mains, it's sausage cassoulet.
28:42And then dessert is...
28:44Creme brulee.
28:45Always be creme brulee.
28:46I don't want to put pressure on your shoulders, Roy, but I eat creme brulee at least once a
28:50week through work because it's something we benchmark as part of the rosette assessment.
28:54So if there's a creme brulee on the menu...
28:56Nicola and Roy aren't the only ones hoping to charm with afternoon tea.
29:06Oh, you love me.
29:07I love a good chari tea.
29:08Yeah, this will be a good one for you.
29:10It will be different flavours.
29:12I know.
29:14Down the road, Nicole and Brett are visiting a flower farm to brew unique ideas for their own
29:20B&B.
29:22Bonjour.
29:23Bonjour.
29:24I'm Nicole.
29:25Nice to meet you.
29:26Pristam.
29:26Welcome.
29:27Christian and...
29:28Aurélie.
29:29Nice to meet you.
29:29Aurélie.
29:30Welcome to the farm.
29:31Oh, thank you.
29:31We can go with me to harvest a flower and make a tea after.
29:36Oh, lovely.
29:37Brilliant.
29:37Lovely.
29:38That sounds exciting.
29:40Following the success of their chai tea welcome gift in heat week, they're keen to see how
29:46French botanics could give them an advantage.
29:49This is so pretty, isn't it?
29:51Yeah, this is really nice.
29:52Wow.
29:53There's so much variety here.
29:55Yes, 50 variety of plants.
29:57Wow.
29:58You don't come here just for see the farm.
30:01Okay.
30:01You come for work.
30:03Oh, he's putting us to work now then.
30:05We're hard workers.
30:06We're very hard workers.
30:10Slowly.
30:11So, do you sell the teas at the local markets then?
30:16How do you sell?
30:17We work with boutiques.
30:20Lovely.
30:21Working with local producers like Aurélie and Tristan could be the key to a business plan
30:27that impresses the judges and swings the competition in their favour.
30:33And your family, it's okay to come to France?
30:35Yes.
30:36Yes, and our children, they're 10 and 7 in August.
30:39It's okay.
30:40And right now they're learning French.
30:42Oh, yes.
30:42They're learning French.
30:43So, yeah, they want to come.
30:46I can see your basket.
30:47Yeah.
30:49Good guy.
30:49It's okay.
30:50We go to the dryer?
30:51Yes, of course.
30:52As part of the USP for the B&B, Nicole and Brett are keen to blend their Indian and Sri
30:59Lankan heritage with a French future they see for themselves.
31:03I love Indian chai tea.
31:06What kind of leaf or plant could I add a special touch with?
31:09You can add roses.
31:12Oh, lovely.
31:13Rose, it's a balance for the chai tea.
31:15Oh, and they're really pretty as well.
31:17The reasons why we're going to move here with our children, as a family, because we want
31:22to buy into that French culture and source all of our goods from the locals.
31:27For a perfect herbati, you need to break the leaf.
31:32So, break it up.
31:33Tea tasting days will happen in our salle de fée that we aim to convert the barn into
31:40a local community hub that everyone can come.
31:44Santé.
31:44Santé.
31:45Oh, wow.
31:48There's so much flavour.
31:49It's very refreshing.
31:51We've really learnt lots today.
31:53They're so friendly and we're really passionate about tea making and that's one of the things
31:57that I want to get across.
31:58I'm passionate when I serve a cup of tea because it's just made with fluff.
32:05Back in Fénier.
32:07Cheers, mes deers.
32:09Cheers.
32:09Santé.
32:10It's crunch time for Nicola and Roy as dinner is put under the microscope.
32:16I'm not worried about dinner but I just want everything to be like, because they're all
32:20so nice, I just want everything to be absolutely perfect and I don't want anything to go wrong.
32:24This is where Roy's meant to say, nothing will go wrong.
32:29Nothing will go wrong, darling.
32:31Nothing will go wrong.
32:32I need to try this tart.
32:33With good home cooking central to their B&B's USP, it's vital their French-inspired menu hits the mark.
32:41Oh my God, that's a die for.
32:44I am on fire.
32:47The hosts are giving it everything they've got.
32:54I'm so happy.
32:56I'm doing it.
32:56Good luck for tonight.
32:58You'll need it.
33:01But at this stage in the competition, the judges won't be holding back.
33:06Hello, folks.
33:08Hello.
33:09Are you as hungry?
33:10Yes, we are.
33:10Absolutely.
33:12Well, the table's set and the food's ready, so be prepared to join us.
33:14Thank you very much.
33:15You are good.
33:16Fabulous.
33:17Maybe my only concern for Roy and Nicola is that it's so lovely, but have they got the
33:23gumption to really fight for this?
33:26Go ahead, follow Roy.
33:28Because I want to see proper cooking.
33:32I don't want to see easy cooking.
33:34And I know that we did say that less is sometimes more, but actually I was lying.
33:39I want to do more.
33:40Here we go.
33:42Now we have starters, folks.
33:44Oh.
33:45Roy is a chef.
33:46It's what he does every day.
33:49So I think I'm expecting even more from him.
33:52Welcome to your potential B&B.
33:57Welcome to France.
34:01The awkwardness of meeting you first and the scariness we didn't have this time because we've met you.
34:06Of course.
34:06You don't know what's coming.
34:11You did that very well.
34:15It's a long week.
34:16In the limousine at the prize house, the first dinner of the finals is under scrutiny.
34:32It's tomato tart tartan and the tomatoes are from the local market.
34:37It's delicious.
34:38It's so sweet.
34:39It's so sweet.
34:40Those tomatoes are so flavoursome.
34:43Tonight, it's Nicola and Roy's only shot at wowing the judges and proving they've got the skills to make this incredible property their own.
34:51I think what's been lovely so far is that you've really treated us like returning guests.
34:56And even though we've never actually stayed with you, it just felt like we were returning guests.
35:00I hadn't actually thought if you hadn't stayed with us before.
35:02You're like different people here.
35:04Really?
35:04Yeah.
35:05We've actually seen more of your personalities, which is fantastic to see that.
35:09I mean, you know we're vegetarian, right?
35:10Yeah.
35:14I'm thinking of the envelope we got yesterday.
35:16I'm thinking, it didn't say, it didn't say.
35:18Quick, run in and get the other sausage.
35:21Nicola and Roy's hosting skills are going down well, but with cooking central to their B&B, there's no room for anything less than perfection.
35:33Oh, focaccia?
35:35Yeah, well, it's a focaccia with a twist.
35:37Wow.
35:38It's a Belfast Souda bread focaccia, and it's got rouxmi and drizzled with olive oil.
35:43Is that a recipe you've tested before?
35:45Yeah.
35:45Yeah?
35:46Many, many times.
35:46Yeah.
35:50Wow.
35:51That looks great.
35:54So the sausages are from a local farm, and the girl has a farm 15 minutes up the road.
35:59That's good.
36:01Mm.
36:02It's really good.
36:04I'm seriously enjoying this.
36:05It's very tasty, very wholesome, very rustic, very French.
36:11It's really good.
36:11Question about the property.
36:15Yeah, yeah.
36:16Do you feel like it's yours?
36:17Yeah, I do.
36:18Stop it.
36:18You don't want to say that.
36:20We feel very at home.
36:21We feel very at home.
36:21Yeah.
36:22No, I'm going to be honest.
36:23Whenever we first approached the property, we got very emotional.
36:27We saw it.
36:28I think this house is hugely overwhelming.
36:32At the end of this week, someone's going to have this.
36:35I mean, it's going to be a nice life change.
36:38Can you imagine what it's like for us?
36:40Yeah.
36:40It's got to be that we think in two years' time, this is a viable business with whoever
36:45is at the helm.
36:46We need to believe that the people that win this are going to sustain it.
36:54While Nicola and Roy are grilled over dinner, nearby Michelle and Steve are settling into
37:00the Treehouse B&B, where inspiration is striking for their prize house plans.
37:06My idea, this one.
37:08So, upstairs in the attic area, right, because Steve's good at this sort of thing, we're going
37:15to recreate this.
37:17So, this is the family, self-contained, flat, so they've got the kitchen bit, they've got
37:24the bathroom, but the kids, and they're the den, and the money you can bring in for this.
37:33It's amazing, isn't it?
37:34I'm buzzing with this, because it is quite unique, though.
37:37It will be unique.
37:39Hey, guys.
37:40It's also a chance for Michelle and Steve to put some questions to their own host.
37:45You've got two of these.
37:49Yeah.
37:49So, is it different pricing?
37:51That's what I want to ask.
37:52No, the pricing's the same.
37:54Right.
37:54Because the occupancy's the same, so it's two adults and two kids in each.
37:58Oh, right.
37:59What do you charge for these, then?
38:01Well, it depends.
38:02Is it dependent on time of year?
38:05Yeah.
38:05Right, OK, then.
38:06You can rent out, like, a chicken coop in August.
38:09It's just any, and everybody's looking for accommodation.
38:13Yes.
38:13But to get outside of that, you know, you've got to sort of be a bit more creative.
38:18Is it the dream that you wanted it to be?
38:20Yeah, it is.
38:20Yeah, it's definitely been the dream we were, like, hunting for, wasn't it?
38:23Yeah, I think we've achieved what we set out to achieve.
38:26Which is amazing.
38:27Yeah.
38:27But it's challenging, but it is rewarding.
38:31Yeah, it's an amazing place.
38:33It's inspired us.
38:34Yes.
38:34Thank you very much.
38:35See you later.
38:37Bye.
38:38Bye-bye.
38:38Interrogation over, it's time for dinner.
38:43Again, delivered in Nat and Andy's unique style.
38:48Bon appetit.
38:51Oh, that's posh in it.
38:53Watch that baguette don't get stuck.
38:55Go on, grab it.
38:56Oh, there it is.
38:57Oh, it's got it so big.
38:58Oh, I love this, Steve.
39:00Look at this.
39:01Oh, my word, look at that.
39:03Wow.
39:06Cheers.
39:06You're not used to that, are you?
39:08Yeah, could you tell her?
39:10Cheers and ears to winning it.
39:13Ears to winning it.
39:13We've got this, haven't we, Steve?
39:15Go, girl.
39:15Can I drink it now?
39:19While Michelle and Steve enjoy a relaxing evening,
39:23across at the prize house...
39:25Ava says she actually looks forward to the crunch.
39:29Tension is mounting.
39:31I'm a bit nervous because we've had a judge
39:33that eats it every day.
39:36You know, for her job.
39:39Nicola and Roy are about to serve their final course.
39:42There's no power of this thing.
39:44You just turned up.
39:45You turned up there.
39:46That's it up.
39:47Oh, that's ridiculous.
39:51It's the moment of truth for the couple.
39:53Oh, sweet things are coming.
39:57I do apologise because I didn't have the proper...
40:02Is that what you found in the house?
40:05That's what I found in the house.
40:06Oh, that's cracking, that is.
40:13That's very good.
40:14That's very good.
40:15I'm impressed.
40:16Do you know what?
40:17The whole dinner's been a great crack.
40:19Very good.
40:19Hmm.
40:20Nice.
40:26There's a lot of silence.
40:27Is everything OK, folks?
40:32It is.
40:32I'm going to ask a question.
40:33Did you bake the brûlée?
40:37Yeah.
40:37You did.
40:38The brûlée's overcooked.
40:40It's sort of gone like scrambled eggs
40:42instead of the smooth texture it should be.
40:45Yeah.
40:46You've practised it for so long
40:48and you've practised it on the dishes you had at home
40:51with the oven you've got at home.
40:53And please don't stress about the dessert.
40:56Do you know what?
40:56None of us like crème brûlée anyway.
40:58Ha, ha, ha, ha.
41:02As day one of finals week draws to a close...
41:05The kids would just love it here, wouldn't they?
41:07Yeah, they really would.
41:09..for three sets of hosts,
41:11it's been a chance to see what their dream life could look like.
41:15Merci.
41:17Merci.
41:19It's a new life in France.
41:21Cheers.
41:21Oh, my word.
41:23It's all right, what did you get in?
41:24Oh, God.
41:27Oh, Steve, this is the life, innit?
41:29Yeah.
41:30What are you doing?
41:31I'm...
41:31I'm getting comfy.
41:35It's only an octave, love.
41:37I know we're not used to an octave, are we?
41:39No.
41:41But for Nicola and Roy, the pressure has been real.
41:45As they began their battle to prove they're the hosts
41:48who belong in this house.
41:51So, I think this evening's been a great success.
41:53Yeah.
41:54They enjoyed the company.
41:56They thoroughly enjoyed the company and thoroughly enjoyed the food, so...
41:58I thought, well, they said they did.
42:00Yeah.
42:01Whether they did or not, yeah.
42:02Well, I don't think they would hold back, Nicola.
42:03No, I don't think they would at this stage of the game.
42:05It's, yeah.
42:05So, I think we've done okay.
42:08For now, they've done all they can, but only the judges can decide if it's enough.
42:16We checked in with them this afternoon, and I think we can all agree.
42:19It was like staying with good friends.
42:22Or an auntie and uncle.
42:23Just felt so relaxed and at ease as soon as we entered the house,
42:26like we'd been there before, and it was so nice to see them again.
42:29Genuinely, it was.
42:30And I think we all discussed as well that the house is nothing without the hosts.
42:35100%.
42:35They definitely bring soul, and they're really very much the heart of the house.
42:40It was like a home-cooked meal.
42:42I would have preferred the pastry of the tomato tartan to be a bit more crispy,
42:49but it was delicious.
42:50And then there was the little creme brulee problem, but...
42:53It didn't matter.
42:54You know, we all make mistakes when we're doing home cooking,
42:56and it isn't a cookery contest.
42:59He says, even though we forgive him for the creme brulee and are 100% forgiven,
43:03we need to take into account the goods and the bads.
43:06Excellent welcome.
43:08Sense of feeling at home.
43:09It was the right kind of hospitality, the right kind of approach for a rural B&B.
43:14The one thing that we had really, really pushed Roy and Nicola
43:17to show us this time round was less humbleness and more oomph.
43:24We definitely got that.
43:25And we got that.
43:26I just feel charmed.
43:30But Nicola and Roy aren't safe yet.
43:33Three other couples want this just as badly.
43:36Tomorrow is their final chance to show they have what it takes,
43:41and the smallest slip could cost them this prize of a lifetime.
43:45I don't feel so wobbly now, but tomorrow that could all change.
43:50One thing could go wrong with breakfast and I'll be all wobbly again.
43:52It's not going to go wrong.
43:54Nothing's going to go wrong.
43:56We've got breakfast tomorrow and an excursion.
44:01Can they sustain this charm?
44:04Breakfast was their one foible the last time.
44:06Let's see how they do this time.
44:08It's going to be an interesting week.
44:10It certainly is.
44:13Next time...
44:14It's wowsers.
44:16The hosts are out and about.
44:19It's bigger than our first flat.
44:21But emotions run high at the B&B.
44:24Breakfast forgot ten tomatoes.
44:28I had a cry.
44:30It was good.
44:30Revolting.
44:31Let's go to a hug, we go.
44:33And the judges aren't holding anything back.
44:37They're sweet.
44:38They're very sweet.
44:39That's not enough.
44:54They're very sweet.
44:55They're very sweet.
44:56They're very sweet.
44:57They're very sweet.
44:58They're very sweet.
44:59They're very sweet.
45:00They're very sweet.
45:01They're very sweet.
45:02They're very sweet.
45:03They're very sweet.
45:04They're very sweet.
45:05They're very sweet.
45:06They're very sweet.
45:07They're very sweet.
45:08They're very sweet.
45:09They're very sweet.
45:10They're very sweet.
45:11They're very sweet.
45:12They're very sweet.
45:13They're very sweet.
45:14They're very sweet.
45:15They're very sweet.
45:16They're very sweet.
45:17They're very sweet.
45:18They're very sweet.
45:19They're very sweet.
45:20They're very sweet.
45:22They're very sweet.
