00:00Is it actually going to happen? Are the Kansas City Chiefs actually going to miss the playoffs?
00:05Kind of seems like it. Let's break it down.
00:07Let's break it down.
00:37We just keep waiting for it to work. Keep waiting for it to work. Keep waiting for it to work. And it just, it keeps not working. And something where that magic was last year, it's just, it is whatever deal they made with the devil has expired because now they are losing these tight games and they are the one, this is where the concern comes in.
00:58I think for the Chiefs, they are the ones now who are making the mistakes. They are the ones who are making those late game screw ups that allow the other teams to get the wins. And that wasn't happening.
01:12Remember last year when it was the, the Raiders somehow screwed up like eight different times. I think it was at the Black Friday game. It was one of the, it was like a Christmassy Saturday. It wasn't a regularly scheduled football game.
01:27And the Raiders just botched every single way you could possibly screw up a game. They managed to do that. And the Chiefs were able to get it. And that was always kind of my justification around all of it was Kansas City knows how to win.
01:43And they just don't make those sorts of mistakes. But now they are. It's going for it on fourth and one when it feels like you kind of have them stuck. Like the Texans aren't going to do anything else. So if you punt the ball to them, now they can march it down.
01:56And I understand like there's some hypocrisy for me with that because I am a big go for it on fourth down guy. But as with a lot of things, it's not just one or the other. There are times where it makes sense to go for it on fourth and one.
02:09I think most times. But there are some game situations where it's like, yeah, take it. Go. Let's see if you can do it again.
02:16And the Chiefs threw that up. It's Travis Kelsey being now unreliable and not being able to handle that pass leading to an interception that really seals the game away.
02:27It is the Chiefs now who are making those screw ups. And when you have a roster like they do with the issues they have on the offensive line,
02:35with the pass catchers who just can't get open now, your margin for error just gets smaller and smaller and smaller.
02:41And you need – this is – it's weird because this is a really good Mahomes season.
02:45I think Mahomes has been excellent. But he just – he needs a little bit of help.
02:51And it ain't coming. It's not there.
02:53So they're going to have to really reassess where they are at roster-wise.
02:58Because I think when you look at, okay, we can kind of punt on receiver, we'll draft a couple fast kids and it'll be fine.
03:04Obviously, like, that got them to a couple of Super Bowls.
03:08But the issue is Travis Kelsey is not what Travis Kelsey was.
03:15And, like, he has had some big moments, but he's had some rough ones too.
03:19And when you don't have that reliable target, that was kind of the basis for a lot of these things.
03:25And then running back, they're kind of over on hitting on – like, Hunt was big.
03:30But Pacheco hasn't necessarily bounced back in the way that I thought he would.
03:33I still think Rice is a really good receiver. I still think Worthy is a pretty good receiver.
03:37And I wonder with a full season with those guys what this offense looks like.
03:41But it is obvious they have to address the issues on the offensive line.
03:45And they probably need another game-breaker on the offensive side because Kelsey's kind of fading away.
03:49And honestly, like, it feels – because Kelsey – I'm overreacting to one game.
03:55But Kelsey has had some not great moments this season.
03:59The last couple of seasons, really.
04:00Like, he obviously has slowed down.
04:02And, like, just that juggle and everything like that.
04:05You wonder if maybe more Noah Gray need to be worked into or other tight end.
04:10Like, just find something to get this offense going because it's just not.
04:15And, again, they're facing a really tough schedule.
04:17Like, they have – I'm not making excuses for them.
04:19But they have faced – like, this is a really good Texans team that still has a chance to win the division.
04:24And should be what a lot of the focus is on.
04:26But it's not.
04:26But they have a real opportunity, I think, to make some noise.
04:30So, if they were losing games like this to the Raiders and to the Dolphins and the Jets, then that's concerning.
04:36They're losing to playoff teams basically every week.
04:39But it's just – these were the teams that they beat.
04:42Like, they're going to Super Bowls.
04:43So, the opposition shouldn't matter to you.
04:46But it does now for them.
04:49It feels done, right?
04:50Like, they are two games back with – what is it now?
04:53Four games remaining?
04:55So, like, there's obviously – we're going to talk about it in a sec here.
04:59And here – Uncle Crashy bringing up the Indianapolis Colts.
05:03There is a very realistic possibility the Colts fall out of this thing.
05:07But still, like, making up that amount of ground in this short of time with also a Ravens team who we'll talk about in a second still kind of hanging out there.
05:16There's – it felt last year like the Bills weren't going to make it.
05:21Now it feels like the Chiefs aren't going to make it.
05:22Now the Bills made a miraculous comeback and were able to get on through to the postseason.
05:28I just don't – this needed to be it for Kansas City.
05:31And it wasn't for them.
05:33So, it feels – it feels very done this season for the Chiefs.
05:37And now I'm fascinated to see how they respond.
05:40The Baltimore Ravens, also potentially in the done category as they lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
05:46Now that game more competitive, I think they should have won.
05:49I guess we'll just jump right in.
05:51I don't understand how that likely catch wasn't a touchdown at the end of the game.
05:56And this guy, like, holy shit, talking about all the different things that he has been through in these types.
06:03Like, how many different times have we said, oh, I don't get how likely didn't finish that one play with the foot on the back of the goal line last year.
06:10And this one here and a couple of others as well.
06:13But, like, he has it.
06:15He takes two steps.
06:16Like, it's a catch.
06:17It is two feet in bounds.
06:18Like, how do you not – how is that not a catch?
06:23It feels like we have one of these a year.
06:25Like, he catches it.
06:26It's in the end zone.
06:27Like, you just have to cross.
06:28If he is – if he does that same thing, but it's on, like, a – he does the quarterback sneak-tush-push thing and reaches into the end zone.
06:36It feels like they give it to him, right?
06:37Like, he has possession.
06:38It gets across the goal line.
06:40Boom.
06:41That's a touchdown.
06:42So, I don't – I genuinely don't understand how that one goes against the Ravens.
06:48But, for sure, don't leave it to one big play late in the game against a Steelers team that's felt cooked for a couple of weeks, too.
06:57So, like, they – they should have won this game.
07:00But they had a lot of opportunities to win it as the day went on.
07:04And, like, Lamar is obviously still banged up.
07:06And, again, they just don't have the guys making the plays for their quarterback when he needs the help.
07:12It is great to have Superman, but sometimes – sometimes you do need also Batman to come in and help out, right?
07:20As we just really drive this metaphor into the ground.
07:22But you do need that other guy to step up and help you out.
07:26It can't just be a one-man show.
07:29And, like, for Lamar, the one-man show thing – I get Derrick Henry was a big part of it last year –
07:33but, like, the one-man show with Lamar got them to within a fumble trying to get into the end zone of going to the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.
07:41But all of this roster construction with limited wide receivers and really banking on running backs and tight ends,
07:49that's great when the dude is balling.
07:51But there are going to be moments where he's going to need help.
07:56And Mahomes hasn't had that help, and now Lamar doesn't have that help either.
08:00And I just – I get the injuries at the beginning of the season.
08:04I cannot fathom how they did not take care of the Steelers here.
08:09And now they – like, they're in a better situation because they're only one game back of Pittsburgh,
08:13and I'm not buying that the Steelers are going to have this great run the rest of the way.
08:17But the Ravens have a tough schedule for the rest of the season as well.
08:20Let's pull it up here just on my phone real quick.
08:23Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
08:25Fantastic podcasting for everyone and live streaming.
08:29So, let's go here.
08:31Let's go find that Ravens team.
08:35Why can't I find this game?
08:36There we are.
08:37Ravens, what are we looking at schedule-wise the rest of the way?
08:39I feel like it's difficult.
08:41Yeah, okay, so next week they are at the Bengals.
08:44Who looked all right?
08:45We'll talk about that game in a second here.
08:46They're at the Bengals.
08:47Then they are home against the Patriots.
08:50That's a difficult game.
08:52They are – begrudgingly, I will admit, that's a difficult game.
08:55They are at the Packers.
08:57That's a really tough game.
08:58And then they're at the Steelers to close out the season.
09:01So, a really important game, obviously, at the end of the year.
09:06And for the Steelers, their schedule the rest of the way.
09:09Monday night against the Dolphins.
09:11Can we – probably too late to flex that.
09:13Okay?
09:14Either way.
09:14Then they are at Lions.
09:16That's a tough one.
09:16That's a loss.
09:17Or that could be a loss.
09:19Sorry.
09:20At the Browns.
09:21I would anticipate Miles Garrett breaks the sack record in that game.
09:24And then against the Ravens to close out the year.
09:27So, there's a couple more should-be wins for this Steelers team.
09:31So, they could make it so that last game doesn't matter.
09:33The Ravens are in a really difficult spot now.
09:36And it is a lot to do with how they have kind of constructed the rosters here with these football teams.
09:44I – sorry.
09:46I missed this one before.
09:47Tall John.
09:47From watching the stream last night, apparently Kansas City made bad decisions.
09:52Can't really comment myself.
09:54Yeah, this is – I think it's a bigger kind of football discussion.
09:58And it's one of the things that frustrates me with where we're at sports talk-wise and everything now.
10:03Like the hot take, first take, toss-up, whatever they're called.
10:08These conversations need nuance.
10:10And too much in, look, every form of life in some of these talks right now.
10:16Nuance kind of gets thrown out.
10:18You have to be all one way or all the other way.
10:20And there are some ways, when we're bringing up analytics, where that does actually play out.
10:24For instance, in baseball, lineup construction.
10:26The prevailing theme in lineup construction for analytics is you have your best hitter bat second.
10:33And it's not just so that they come up with a big moment in one game.
10:36It is so that over the course of 162 games, you are buying your best hitter an extra 80 at bats by him coming back up around that time.
10:44Not important for this.
10:45But there are some times where, in analytics, you do kind of have to pick one side or the other just so that it offsets.
10:51And I understand some of it with fourth down math is, well, we're going to get it, like, 30, 40, 50% of the time.
10:57So why not always do that?
11:00And then it puts us in better situations mathematically.
11:03But I think with this, there is a game feel to it where you need to understand, like, your defense has done a really good job against the Texans.
11:12And it doesn't look like Houston's going to get a whole lot and the game is still tied.
11:16This is a time to punt the ball away and just read the room, see how the game is going, and do that.
11:21A lot of the other ones, like the going for two when you're down by 14 so that maybe you have a chance to win the game on a touchdown, that's great for really good teams to do.
11:30It's kind of dumb for the Giants to do, right?
11:33Because now you're putting yourself, well, you need a two-point conversion to win, and I'm not willing to bet that they can go 50% on those, right?
11:39So you do get some instances where you need to understand the situation of what is happening.
11:46I do also get, though, where Kansas City feels like the math is always in their favor, because it has been, right?
11:53Like, I can't fathom punting ever when you have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
11:59Like, there should be some way that you can figure out how to get points out of, or get 5, 6, 18 yards sometimes, right?
12:07Like, you have a great play caller, you have a great quarterback, elites at both positions, honestly.
12:13You should be able to get a first down.
12:14So I can see where Kansas City looked at the situation, like, yeah, you know what?
12:19Our offense isn't really going.
12:20That is an elite caliber defense over there, and I've been saying it all year.
12:23That's an elite level defense on the other side.
12:25Maybe we just punt the ball away.
12:27But I could see, like, when you're weighing the pros and cons, the Chiefs going, okay, yes, that's great, totally understand that.
12:33Um, the other angle of that, though, is we're the fucking Chiefs, man.
12:38Like, I'm Andy Reid.
12:40That's Patrick Mahomes.
12:41Like, this is, this is this generation's best coaching quarterback duo.
12:46What are we doing here?
12:48Why, why, why are we even considering this?
12:50So I can understand where the bravado and the ego of it all comes into play there, but I do think there are situations where you have to read it.
12:57And this is coming from me, the guy who has said on every football broadcast he's done, my punter would hate me because I would go for it on fourth down so often.
13:05But there are some instances anyway where I think you have to kind of read the room and see where things are going for you at that particular time.
13:15Tough one for Uncle Crashy in the Twitch chat and the Indianapolis Colts,
13:19as, um, it did feel like their season came to a crashing halt on Sunday afternoon as they get whooped on by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
13:30Uh, Daniel Jones with a broken foot on one leg now tears the Achilles on the other.
13:36Uh, that news coming out just a little bit ago.
13:38Um, I'm pretty sure that that was the official ruling that we got.
13:42Um, sorry, I don't want to just throw that though.
13:45Yes.
13:46Okay.
13:46Here we are.
13:47Uh, Colts coach Shane Steichen says quarterback Daniel Jones is scheduled for surgery within the week after confirmation of an Achilles, a torn Achilles.
13:56He added backup Riley Leonard is dealing with knee soreness, but will hopefully be available on Sunday.
14:04So, uh, too bad the trade deadline is done.
14:05Because this would be perfect time for, uh, Joe Flacco to come riding in on his horse and give a, um, have an opportunity to win this.
14:13This is why, side quest, feel like we should have transfers like they do in football.
14:17Now, or loans, sorry, like they do in football.
14:20Uh, now, you still have transfer windows and stuff like that, so it wouldn't work.
14:23But, um, like if you could just be the Bengals, like, yeah, well, for a seventh round pick, we will loan you Joe Flacco for the last three weeks of the season so you can go out and try to win an AFC South championship.
14:33But, whether it's Riley Leonard or, like, Richardson's done for the year now too, right?
14:38Whoever they pluck off of whatever heap to come in and play quarterback for the last few weeks, it's not, it's not going to matter.
14:47Um, it, it really is unfortunate.
14:49Like, this felt like a dream season for the Colts and then Daniel Jones.
14:53Like, you can really start to see where that injury started to hinder and where that injury became a real problem for him and the football team and this offense.
15:02So, it really is too bad for Indianapolis.
15:06Now, the way it sits right now, they are a play, no, they're not, sorry, they're tied for the last playoff spot.
15:12The Texans have leapfrogged them.
15:13Yeah, no, they're cooked.
15:14They're cooked, sorry.
15:15I, uh, crashed, I tried to give you help, but, uh, yeah, they're, they, they are absolutely 100% um, cooked on this one.
15:22Uh, he messages in in the, uh, the Twitch chat.
15:25Um, my Colts went two for two with torn Achilles injuries.
15:28That's my surprise.
15:29Uh, yeah, that feels like a bit, pretty big surprise to have, um, your, your season go down with, uh, a quarterback just rupturing at Achilles.
15:37Rough go for Achilles in star players in Indianapolis, Indiana.
15:40Hey, with, uh, Halliburton a bit ago and then that one.
15:43So, that's, that, that's a real bummer to, to have that happen.
15:46It sucks for Daniel Jones because he was probably due for a pretty good payday coming off of this one.
15:51And now it's a full season that you lose and then we have seen with a number of these guys that next season when you come back is just not the same.
16:00Like, we are three years away from Daniel Jones being able to see what he still has as a football player coming off of the best season of his life up to this point.
16:09So, it sucks for the human being and it sucks for the Colts.
16:11Like, Jacksonville, not to be lost in this, even with Riley Leonard at quarterback, that's a statement for Jacksonville to go out and do that.
16:19To Colts defensive was maybe a little overrated at the beginning of the season given some of the results that they had.
16:24But, still, a good defense.
16:27And to go out there and do that against that group is really impressive.
16:30So, Jacksonville is absolutely a team we should be taking seriously.
16:34They have a one-game lead on the Houston Texans for that last, uh, or for that top spot, sorry, in the AFC South.
16:42They do not play each other the rest of the way.
16:45Uh, Jags have a pretty good schedule.
16:46They, they got the Jets this week.
16:47That, I feel pretty good about that.
16:50Real test on Sunday the 21st when they take on the Denver Broncos.
16:54Uh, that'll be a late afternoon game.
16:56That is at Denver.
16:57Then they're at the Colts on the 28th before closing out the season with the Titans.
17:01So, like, Colts at this point and Titans, those are wins.
17:03At Broncos, that's a real test for Trevor Lawrence and this Jacksonville team.
17:08Going up against the Houston Texans who have a lot that they are playing for.
17:12As well, obviously, a game back.
17:13And they are looking like a very good football team as well.
17:16But, yeah, the Indianapolis Colts, a fantastic season.
17:19But it kind of all comes crumbling down.
17:21And now you wonder, what do they do at quarterback as the, uh, the season winds down and they head
17:27toward the, uh, it's weird to talk about them like this because they are tied for a playoff
17:31spot.
17:31But, but, and when I'm saying, well, the Chiefs, I mean, maybe, and Baltimore could, now Baltimore's
17:37a game out of their division, but I guess so are the Colts, right?
17:39So, I'm, I'm, I'm looking at teams that are two games behind them in the standings going,
17:45well, maybe, but the Colts, done.
17:48But that, that is the reality of the situation when you have a really tough injury like they
17:53did at the quarterback spot.
17:55But, massive comeback for the Buffalo Bills.
17:59That is, uh, Tall John calling to come into quarterback for the, the Colts.
18:05Yeah, no, that's, um, uh, look, who knows, right?
18:08I mean, that, keep the, don't put the phone on do not disturb is all I'm saying.
18:12Because, uh, they're going to be calling anybody to, to try to come in and, uh, get that quarterback
18:17job for them.
18:18Uh, but yes, the Buffalo Bills, a comeback that they needed in the worst possible way.
18:23I, um, didn't get, like, the, the head start on watching the football throughout the day.
18:29I was, uh, uh, just kind of otherwise occupied here and then started watching around second
18:34half of those games.
18:35And you're looking at the score like, what, what on earth is happening?
18:38And anytime Buffalo would get any kind of momentum, either James Cook would fumble
18:42or the Bengals would come back and do something big.
18:45But then a, just brain fart of a pick six from Joe Burrow trying to shot put a pass over
18:52an incoming linebacker who reaches up, grabs it, and takes it the rest of the way and
18:56basically seals it for the Buffalo Bills in a snow game.
19:00It is a little concerning that the offense needed until the fourth quarter and two interceptions
19:06for their defense to come away with a victory against what has been one, the worst defense
19:12in the National Football League this season.
19:14And one of the worst defenses we've seen in a decade for Buffalo to need that.
19:19That's a bit of a problem.
19:21I have concerns about that, but a win is a win for them.
19:24And they stay within semi-striking distance of the New England Patriots for that top spot
19:31in the division.
19:32Buffalo two games back of New England.
19:34They have a game against each other coming up this week.
19:37So a huge one for Buffalo to try to get that and try to work their way back into it.
19:41But yeah, I'm, again, it just, it feels like something is a little off with them.
19:47But the difference was where Mahomes wasn't able to make that miraculous play, where Lamar
19:54Jackson wasn't able to get that miraculous play.
19:56Two things happened for the Bills.
19:58A, someone stepped up and made a big play, and then Josh Allen took over, like a 47-yard
20:04run to help seal the game away.
20:06It's really impressive and really, really quite the thing.
20:09But a very, very good, good comeback, good win.
20:13A, someone definitely, like, can't lose that one, obviously.
20:18But I still have questions coming out of that win now for the Buffalo Bills.
20:23And so it sets up an interesting AFC playoff picture right now where the Broncos and the
20:29Patriots are tied at 11-2 at the top of the division.
20:32The Jags are in third, leading the AFC South at 9-4.
20:37And then the Steelers, the AFC North leaders right now at 7-6.
20:40In the wildcard, it's the Bills, the Chargers, who play later tonight, and the Houston Texans
20:45at 8-5.
20:46Just out are the Colts at 8-5.
20:47And then the Ravens, Chiefs, and the Dolphins, still alive, at 6-7.
20:53But they need a hope and a prayer to get their way into the postseason.
20:57So, could be a lot of new blood in the playoffs.
21:01And I've said, like, I'm not a believer in the Broncos and the Patriots in terms of
21:06getting, like, once you get into the postseason.
21:08Patriots against Texans would be the first-round matchup.
21:11I would be very worried if I was New England, just based on how good that defense can be
21:15for the Houston Texans.
21:17But a lot of interesting times ahead in the AFC, that is for sure.
21:26Didn't really talk about it much, but the NFC had a huge game with the Chicago Bears hanging
21:32around, but ultimately losing to the Green Bay Packers.
21:3627, or sorry, 28-27 ends up being the final score.
21:39Sorry, 28-21 ends up being the final score in that football game.
21:44And for the Packers, this is what kind of keeps you hoping with this group, I guess,
21:50for lack of a better phrase.
21:51Because Jordan Love can go out there and be this guy, like he was on Sunday, and just
21:57kind of take over.
21:58You've been waiting for this to show up this season for Jordan Love.
22:02And again, only 234 yards passing on 17-25.
22:05But just the way it looked out there, and getting a couple of touchdowns to Christian
22:10Watson, three touchdowns overall on the day.
22:13Josh Jacobs running the ball quite effectively against that Bears defense.
22:16This is what tantalizes you about this team.
22:19When it is going well, you have a quarterback who, at least the ceiling is very high, and
22:23a very talented receiver group around him with a strong running back to kind of get through,
22:28and then a defense that can step up and make some very big plays.
22:31If Micah Parsons isn't getting held on every play, which he kind of was.
22:34But they are a team that feels like they can be complete, and feels like this is, as someone
22:42who thought they could win the Super Bowl, this is what I was waiting to see out of this
22:47football team.
22:48And it has been frustrating that you don't see it on a weekly basis, but they were able
22:53to step up when they needed to, and make this play.
22:56And now you look at the rest of the NFC, like we still take the Rams very seriously, they
23:01made a statement on Sunday, so did the Seahawks, but the Packers have to be right there when
23:05talking about the complete teams in the NFL, and one of the, at least, favorites in the
23:11NFC.
23:11As for the Bears, it always kind of felt like winning the division for them was a little
23:16bit of a fool's gold mission, but I, again, they looked like a playoff team.
23:23Like that, that was, it's funny, in a loss, that was about as good as Caleb Williams has
23:27looked, and I've said it before, I am not as big of a Caleb Williams hater as other people
23:31are, but I have to say, like, this was about as impressed as I've been with him.
23:36Now, they still have to stay sharp, because Detroit is right behind them at 8-5, and
23:41then you still have the Buccaneers or the Panthers at 7-6, who are a couple of games out
23:46as well.
23:47So, this isn't just, okay, you've done the job, get through.
23:51It's a very big four weeks for Caleb Williams, for Ben Johnson, and kind of assessing where
23:56this team is at.
23:57But again, you are seeing the superstar potential that Caleb Williams has.
24:01You just now need to see it with a little bit more regularity as we go down the stretch
24:06here with the Bears.
24:07So, we'll have a lot more on the playoff picture in the NFL as the week goes on here.
24:13But just to go through the playoff picture again, with obviously one big game tonight
24:16with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the LA Chargers, you have the Rams at 10-3, the Packers
24:22are at 9-3-1.
24:24So, Green Bay, if the Rams get another banana peel, and they could, because of, like, you
24:30have the Seahawks in that first wildcard spot right behind them as well.
24:33So, you need both of those teams to lose, but Green Bay, the way they look, they can
24:37beat anybody.
24:38And getting a couple of games at home is going to be very important for them.
24:41If they can get into that one seed, too, that's very, very dangerous stuff.
24:45Third place right now, the Eagles, and then in fourth, it's the Bucs and the Panthers.
24:49That was a really disappointing loss for Tampa Bay.
24:52Baker missing on a few plays, and then Ibuka, a really bad drop in the end zone, kind of costing
24:57them against the New Orleans Saints.
24:59I think they had a touchdown called back on a penalty as well, but Tyler Shug looked pretty
25:03good for the Saints.
25:05Either way, wildcard teams, the Seahawks right now at 10-3, the 49ers at 9-4, and the Bears
25:10also at 9-4, with the Lions hanging around one game back.
25:14So, the playoff push in the NFC is going to be on, and it is going to be a ton of fun
25:20to watch that one.
