02:00Today, we're at Firebird Raceway near Eagle, Idaho at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

02:07This drag strip opened its gates in 1968.
02:12As the only surviving quarter-mile drag strip in Idaho, Firebird Raceway remains a major racing
02:18facility for the entire Pacific Northwest.
02:22It hosts nearly 50 days of racing each season.
02:29Firebird Raceway had deep roots in the history of American racing.
02:32They continue to ensure the future of the sport by hosting one of the country's longest-running
02:37high school drag racing programs.
02:40Firebird Raceway has been nominated in the National Register of Historic Places because
02:44of its significance to the sport of drag racing.
02:47So, we got locals only here.
02:50These guys are gonna be racing out for $5,000, and if they beat each other up and there's
02:55one left over, they get to race a big-tire street outlaw for another $5,000, for a total
03:01of $10,000.
03:02What do you guys think about that?
03:04These drivers are truly some of the fastest and baddest this area has to offer.
03:10And let's not forget, the last local standing takes home $5,000, and that's a once-in-a-lifetime
03:16opportunity.
03:17So, the lucky local will get a chance to race an outlaw for another $5,000, makes it a total
03:23of $10,000.
03:24The locals don't know who they're racing yet, but we do.
03:27It's one of the biggest surprises in this NPK season.

05:47Runs on E85, and it makes a lot of power.
05:50Top trucks have been around for a long time.

05:54He's got everything he needs to be on the street.
05:56Mirrors, lights, turn signals, all that stuff.
05:59My dad was very passionate about cars, and that's what got me into it.
06:02My dad used to take me to drag races.
06:05He definitely opened my eyes to it.
06:07Right now, it's pretty much a bare bones race vehicle.

06:10We do drive it a lot.
06:11But it'd be nice to have carpet, and a nice sound system, and air conditioning, and make
06:16it to where my wife actually wants to ride around with me in the hot days.

18:17The car with twin turbo LS, making upwards of 1,300, 1,400 horsepower.
18:24But overall, the car from the windshield forward is stock.
18:28So I got my racing starts in the streets of Japan.
18:32I came back to the States, did a little bit of street racing, but that's when I really started hitting the tracks,
18:36because in the States, the cops aren't as friendly as they are in Japan.
18:40I wanna show you guys that this is the car to beat.
