00:00You have heard the buzz that Donald Trump may pardon Diddy.
00:03There's even been talk about R. Kelly.
00:07Well, let's throw another name into the ring.
00:10Harvey Weinstein.
00:11Yes, although this one is not coming from the White House,
00:15some would say it's coming from across the pond.
00:19From Dame Judi Dench, who is feeling more than sympathy for Harvey Weinstein,
00:25saying it's time to let him out, that he's done his time.
00:30So they have history, obviously.
00:33In Hollywood, they have Hollywood history,
00:35in that she was one of the stars of Shakespeare in Love.
00:38She actually won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress on that one.
00:44He has tentacles all over Hollywood.
00:46And he championed that, right?
00:48He was a big part of the campaign for the Oscars for that movie
00:51in all the categories as nominated.
00:53This is what Dame Judi Dench had to say about Harvey
00:57when she saw a photo of him.
01:00She said, I saw a bit of film of Harvey walking with two sticks.
01:04I think she means canes.
01:05And you think, well, I imagine he's done his time.
01:09I don't know.
01:10To me, it's personal.
01:12Forgiveness.
01:12You know, it's interesting that she's saying this
01:17because she knows the way that's going to be received in Hollywood.
01:20Certainly.
01:21And you can see there's some courtesy.
01:23Very savvy.
01:24She's very savvy.
01:25And she knows there are a lot of people who are going to say,
01:27oh, my God.
01:28So he's right now serving a 16-year sentence?
01:30He's serving a 16-year sentence.
01:32He has served six and a half years of it already,
01:34if you count the time in Rikers when he was being tried.
01:36And he's really sick.
01:38He's got cancer.
01:39He had a heart, open heart surgery last year.
01:42He has leukemia.
01:42He's 73 years old.
01:44It's not going to get better.
01:45And it's a hard time that he is serving in prison.
01:47What I will say about Judi Dench is she is extremely savvy.
01:50She's also quite old.
01:51She's advanced in age.
01:52And I don't think she cares about blowback at this point.
01:54She's not really active in movies anymore.
01:57I have another theory about this.
02:00If this were five years ago, people would be stunned at it.
02:05But when you look at the pardons that Donald Trump has given,
02:09you know, from January 6th to, you know, now considering Diddy,
02:13which I think, by the way, is going to happen,
02:16it's not that it's normalized.
02:18There's not going to be a presidential pardon of Harvey Weinstein.
02:21I just...
02:23Look, Dan Judi Dench saying she would like...
02:26He's part of the liberal establishment.
02:27If this is one thing...
02:28Here's the thing.
02:29That's not...
02:29I think the same thing as a presidential pardon.
02:31I tend to agree with you, but I wouldn't bet.
02:34I wouldn't bet.
02:35So you think because she has floated this out here
02:38that then the White House would jump on board?
02:40I don't know.
02:41I mean, Donald Trump...
02:42He hates Hollywood.
02:43Donald Trump doesn't like Hollywood,
02:45but at the same time, I think he's going to pardon Diddy.
02:48That's fair.
02:49So what's the difference?
02:49But what Diddy was convicted of...
02:51What Diddy was convicted of is way different
02:54from what Harvey Weinstein was...
02:55The conviction, yes.
02:56And actually, Harvey...
02:57That is true.
02:58He can't pardon him for the state offenses.
02:59It's a state offense.
03:00He's serving for rape in New York.
03:01Yes, the convictions, yes.
03:03Yeah.
03:03But the Cassie video that everybody...
03:05You're talking about Diddy.
03:06We're talking about Weinstein.
03:07Weinstein can't be pardoned by Trump
03:08because he's serving a sentence for a state offense.
03:10Right.
03:11So this would have to be the governor,
03:12and that's not going to happen.
03:13That ain't going to happen in New York.
03:15That is not going to happen in California.
03:16It ain't going to happen in New York,
03:17and it wouldn't happen in California.
03:18If you're Harvey Weinstein, and you heard this,
03:19and in fact, we reached out,
03:21and his people did say that...
03:22Give us a statement where basically,
03:24Harvey thanked her for making those comments,
03:26said that she's always been a pivotal part of his career.
03:29She also mentioned Kevin Spacey.
03:30So he thanked her,
03:32but that's where this is going to end.
03:34There's no way he's getting at it.
03:36You've got to wonder how others in town think about it because...
03:41Think about Harvey?
03:42As outrageous as, you know, the things he did,
03:47he also resurrected careers.
03:51He got her her only Oscar.
03:52She's one of the most decorated actresses in history.
03:54Her only Oscar is for Shakespeare in Love.
03:56Gwyneth Paltrow.
03:56The convictions are so much different
04:00when you compare them to Diddy.
04:01Oh, no, no.
04:01I agree.
04:03Christina from Texas here.
04:04I think Judi Dench is entitled to her feelings,
04:06but the only people with any business or right
04:08to discuss forgiving Harvey Weinstein are his victims.
04:11Forgiveness belongs to the survivors, not the bystanders.
04:14And her personal history with him
04:15doesn't outweigh the women who came forward
04:17or the trauma that they now carry.
04:20I think her compassion is her choice,
04:22but that doesn't mean he has done his time,
04:24and it certainly doesn't cancel out the damage he caused.
04:26And just because he's sick doesn't mean he gets a pass.
04:29He was found guilty.
04:30He needs to serve his sentence.
04:31Yeah, let me ask you something, though.
04:32I hear you.
04:33If this were a man, a male actor who made the suggestion,
04:39would you be more outraged than the fact that it's a woman?
04:43I'd be equally outraged.
04:45Either way, it's not okay.
04:47Okay.
04:47Okay.
