00:00M.S. Dhoni knows what his resources are, what his limitations are and how to get the
00:29best out of what he has at hand.
00:32I give credit to him for encouraging millions of fans out there to watch the game of cricket
00:37and to be inspired.
00:38Cheney Superkings, go!
00:59Cheney Superkings
01:08Cheney Superkings
01:23Mahendr Singh Dhoni and Chennai connection is hard-bombing because it's very low that you live in another city and you can manage yourself as you are.
01:53So he was a mega what you call factor as far as the branding is concerned.
01:59I couldn't believe that this is Chennai's son.
02:03Tamil Nadu has always had in their history a hero worshipping.
02:08So it was just a matter of time before MS took that spot of where people would worship him.
02:16When I go to Chennai, when I'm travelling south, they don't call me by my name.
02:21They always say Thala and even if they are yelling, they are never yelling my name.
02:25It's always Thala.
02:26So that was something that kept growing from the first season onward.
02:30That's the time you know people really accept you as how you are.
02:35They really have a lot of love and respect for you.
02:38MS Dhoni, I think I always felt that he might be from Jharkhand,
02:43but he has so many attributes or characters that are very similar to South Indians and people from Tamil Nadu
02:49who basically, you know, kind of, we like to live a simple, quiet life.
02:54We don't go about showing, you know, we are not show-offs.
02:58I think that characteristic is very similar to MS Dhoni.
03:02I think probably people, that's why they see a connect in him, that humbleness and that character, I think probably.
03:11They are the Kings, the Qatar IDL champions of CSK for the fifth time.
03:20They have made a brand for so many years of the team.
03:23They have made a brand for the Chinese Super King.
03:25They have the greatest hands of MS Dhoni.
03:27If they leave them, they say that they are the greatest man of the house.
03:32If they don't stay, they will fall.
03:34I always believed that when you are leading a team,
03:37it is important to understand one another.
03:40You know, just, you can't do it from above.
03:43Once you know the individual, you know his strengths, you know his weaknesses,
03:47then the direction that you want to move as a team,
03:53it becomes very easy.
03:55You know, take one game at a time and, you know, it's all about the process.
03:59All of those cliches that I just mentioned, they rely heavily on not the spoken word,
04:05which MS has very few words to describe what he needs to get done as a leader.
04:10They rely on the individual actually really coming into their own
04:15and just performing actions, as they say, speak louder than words.
04:20When Albie was at the top of his mark and I got moved into that position,
04:23I didn't question. I thought it made perfect sense.
04:26I mean, Kyron Pollard loves to bang it straight down the ground
04:30and that was something that we needed to stop.
04:33The wicket came, it presented itself and Kyron Pollard out the match,
04:40the IPL title for the first time in the third year,
04:43was almost an inevitability.
04:46Chennai Silver Kings are champions of the DLF IPL 2010.
04:51Look, I find one thing amazing about MS, right?
04:53Like, you talk a lot about how MS does it.
04:57I mean, there are so many people who admire him from the distance
05:00and say good things and all that.
05:02But one thing that goes amiss is how much MS watches the game.
05:06If he is not playing and if he is sitting in the room and if he is chit-chatting with his players,
05:11the TV is still on and he is watching the game.
05:13I think his on-the-go adjustments of how players are playing
05:17and how fields need to be adjusted and how his bowlers need to adapt,
05:20is top of the league. And that comes with the pure love for the game.
05:25They are the champions, the DLF IPL champions 2011, the Chennai Super Kings.
05:32The greatest thing about MS Dhoni is he knows what his resources are,
05:36what his limitations are and how to get the best out of what he has at hand.
05:41It is MS Dhoni's vision that these players can win me at least an IPL or two in an auction cycle.
05:50Chennai Super Kings! They are the Kings! Vivo IPL 2018!
05:56You have the opposition's captain being cheered on throughout the whole game,
06:05not just for a period of time. Throughout the whole game,
06:08people turn up having, you know, being so excited to watch this legend of the game play.
06:15Chennai, you bet their fourth IPL title! This incredibly successful franchise!
06:21I would have loved to have played under him. You know, I was the kind of player that I like to set my own field.
06:28I like to be able to manage my own space. I knew what I wanted to do. I knew what my strengths were.
06:34And, you know, from watching from the outside with somebody like MS Dhoni and speaking to some of the bowlers
06:39that have played for teams like Chennai Super Kings, he lets you do that up to a point and then he takes over.
06:46And you then have to do bowl to essentially the field that he sets.
06:51And just because of his knowledge of the game, just because of his knowledge of the opponents that he's playing against
06:58and the cool, calm, collected nature of MS Dhoni, it always seems to kind of work out.
07:04And I feel like that I would have loved to have been able to experience that.
07:08The Tata IDL champions of 2023 are CSK for the fifth time!
07:20See, hunger stems out of your love for the game and also love for CSK.
07:26I feel, you know, that is where his passion lies.
07:29And as long as he is fit and as long as he is able to, you know, deliver the goods in terms of his role in the team,
07:37I don't, I don't see any reason why he should step down or retire.
07:41It is just a number to be very, very honest.
07:43He is able to play those four overs or five overs towards the end and still score at a strike rate that is on par with many people in the IPL,
07:51all the biggest hitters in the IPL.
07:53I don't see any reason why, I mean, he should retire until unless he feels so.
07:59Give credit to him for encouraging millions of fans out there to watch the game of cricket and to be inspired.
08:05It's because of guys like him who have really carried the game well over a very long period of time.
08:10Touch wood, hopefully, it continues for a few more years to come.
08:16His greatest skill is just to maintain his composure in the toughest of moments and that's why he is so good.
08:22That's why he is able to make such good decisions under pressure.
08:25I think a great ambassador for cricket, an idol to a billion Indian people back home,
08:30but I think hugely respected around the world.
08:33One of the things that stands out for MS is his sense of acceptance of players.
08:37He accepts those players for exactly where they are.
08:40His greatest skill is just to maintain his composure in the toughest of moments and that's why he is so good.
08:55That's why he is able to make such good decisions under pressure.
08:58I think a great ambassador for cricket, an idol to a billion Indian people back home,
09:03but I think hugely respected around the world.
09:06One of the things that stands out for MS is his sense of acceptance of players.
09:10He accepts those players for exactly where they are.
09:13His ability to, you know, just be with the youngster and, you know, encourage him no matter what the situation of the game is
09:31and no matter what the performance of a player is.
09:38It's been an outstanding performance.
09:40The World 2020 Champions India.
09:43Dhoni finishes off in starting.
09:45India lifts the World Cup.
09:48India now, winners of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
09:53Never bet against MS Dhoni in CSK.
09:56MS Dhoni in yellow and blue and he is so calm, so cool.
10:15How on earth does he keep popping them over the fence?
10:18How on earth does he get us home like this?
10:21Dhoni, Dhoni, Dhoni!
10:26Dhoni is the most destructive batsman.
10:30Dhoni, Dhoni!
10:31He changed the way of Indian cricket.
10:34I think Dhoni is the biggest legend Indian cricket has ever had.
10:38Dhoni, Dhoni, I love you Dhoni.
10:41Mahindra Singh Dhoni, look at the swing.
10:44Look at those eyes.
10:45Dhoni, he was needed to keep calm and control it all the way.
10:499-2-1 not out in the end.
10:51His greatest skill is just maintain his composure in the toughest of moments and that's why he's so good.
10:57That's why he's able to make such good decisions under pressure because he's always calm, he's always composed.
11:03And he allows himself to get into that space where he can take that important call.
11:06So, there's so much to learn from him.
11:08When I walked into the team, he was my captain, he's always going to be my captain.
11:12From my own perspective, I actually made my World Cup debut under him, which was 2007.
11:22And since then, we've had a very long journey, played a lot of cricket together.
11:26His ability to, you know, just be with the youngster and, you know, encourage him, no matter what the situation of the game is and no matter what the performance of a player is.
11:37You know, he tries to just, you know, make sure that there is enough composure around that player.
11:46The player doesn't feel insecure and that, I think, is a very, very important thing when the player just comes into the team.
11:52That is brilliantly done. That is a top leg side something from Mayendo Singoni.
11:59Only for a fraction of a second and only like lightning had those bales off.
12:04Obviously a fellow wicket keeper. He's been an idol of mine growing up.
12:08Mr. Cool. I love his persona on the field.
12:12Looks very calm and in control when he bats.
12:15He's got the lightning fast hands behind the stumps.
12:18He loves to take the game deep and I think his unique style is a great ambassador for the game.
12:24I'm a huge MS Doney fan.
12:27Doney can do anything now. If he really gets going, he can do anything.
12:31No question.
12:33Drought involvement.
12:35Fire up. Get it on the spot.
12:37No!
12:38He's aborted again.
12:40Much to the disgust of the Australian supporters.
12:44I think a great ambassador for cricket.
12:45An idol to a billion Indian people back home.
12:48But, you know, I'll be hugely respected around the world.
12:51We were testing the pink ball here.
12:53Doney said, well, I'll come out and have a ball with it.
12:56And guess what?
12:58He whacked it into the surface.
12:59He's a person who I feel sometimes can control me.
13:08He's not like his family for me.
13:10He's not like for people.
13:12If mind me, Baba Andra Singh do not.
13:13For me, he's just Mahi and my sweetest.
13:16Actually, I call him my sweetheart.
13:18Oh, he's knocked him over. Middle stump. What have you done?
13:23My and my way are good.
13:26They understand what I can do better.
13:29I don't have to focus on what I can do better than that.
13:35So, they know me better.
13:38I think one of the things that stands out for MS is his sense of acceptance of players.
13:45And he picks the players that, again, he instinctively feels that he needs in his side at this point in time.
13:51But after that, he accepts those players for exactly where they are and kind of meets them where they are and kind of helps them elevate to where he needs them to be.
14:01I think he also developed a very unique leadership style, which is right if you were to see the seven different leadership styles.
14:08Leadership from behind.
14:10So, generally, you say, leading from the front, leading by example.
14:13This guy was like, you can understand.
14:15You can do everything you can do.
14:17Empower people that you can do.
14:19You can do good things.
14:20If things are bigger, then I will.
14:23The winners of the Champions Trophy 2013, India.
14:28And now for Mahinda Singh Dhoni, every, every trophy in the world in his cabinet.
14:33With World Test Match No. 1, the ICC World Cup, the Champions Trophy, the World Team 20.
14:39After that, a couple of IPLs in Champions Leagues.
14:42And he's done everything that a captain can.
14:45As a captain, there are a lot of captains.
14:50But I don't like to match the captaincy or captaincy record.
14:54I don't think anyone can do it in Indian cricket.
14:59Mahindra Singh Dhoni has made a massive impact on Indian cricket.
15:03In fact, with due respect to all the legends, I don't think anybody has made a greater impact than Mahindra Singh Dhoni.
15:10What you saw with Indian cricket, with Dhoni in charge, was calmness on the big stage.
15:15Where the opposition captain, when he came to the toss, and I have done a few tosses,
15:19where you see that Dhoni was much calmer than the opposition captain on a big stage.
15:24And that was what India needed.
15:26India always had the skills.
15:28They wanted to win, but they didn't know how to cross the finishing line.
15:32Dhoni, led by example, and that is his greatest contribution.
15:37I think he was a natural leader.
15:42See, in a men's culture, it takes about one and a half minutes,
15:48without any words to realise who their natural leader is.
15:51And that's MS.
15:52So yeah, I think he could command that respect in any change room.
15:56Just naturally, because he's a very likeable individual.
15:59He's a very unselfish individual.
16:02He's a very caring, empathetic individual.
16:04He's a funny individual, and he's a very calm individual.
16:07I mean, they're great qualities.
16:09And you put that in precious scenarios in around 1.4, 1.6 billion people wanting you to win a World Cup.
16:16And that's immense, that's immense sustained mindset that needs to happen.
16:24And he's done it.
16:25M.S. Stoney, he writes his own script.
16:31He's that finisher.
16:32And he does it more often than not.
16:34It more often than not.
16:36ROMA
