01:22Hi, my name is Marco Glandia and I'm from Amsterdam.
01:25I'm mainly a director of TV commercials and other things, but I'm also a magician.
01:32When I was young, I really knew what I wanted to do.
01:37I wanted to be a storyteller, create new worlds, basically direct things, but I didn't know
01:42that back then.
01:43I started with skateboard videos and 25 years later I'm shooting commercials with big talent.
01:48I like to play with images, I like to experiment with sounds.
01:53What I do on film, I also do it in real life.
01:56I spend my summers doing interactive theater installations with a big group of friends.
02:00And that's where I learned to use my magic in a more theatrical, cinematic way.
02:04I'm telling stories, I'm traveling the world, I'm doing what I wanted to do when I was 12.
02:10And I'm still sort of 12 in my mind.
02:12Ben and Taylor, I've created this act especially for you.
02:15It contains everything that I love to do, I hope you guys love it as well.

02:27In a world not far away from ours, a unique man was born.
02:32Born with the head of a bison, he had to deal with the cruelty and misunderstanding from those around him.
02:38So he would often go where he felt at home, in nature.
02:42There is where he developed his magical powers.
02:45Today he is here among us to tell his story.
02:48Dear audience, please welcome, Jones Jones Labrie.
02:56Born on an apple orchard during the full moon, Jones had a strong connection with nature.
03:03He has the ability to take simple elements and transform them into extraordinary creations.
03:08When Jones Jones is surrounded by nature, his powers are the strongest.
03:17Jones learned that if you put love into something as small as an apple seed,
03:25it will grow and grow until the love becomes visible.
03:50One day he received an invitation from a certain ten in Peller,
03:55a gentleman that owned a circus and were really eager to meet him.
03:58So he went to visit them to see their acts.
04:00And out of nowhere she fell from the sky.
04:03Brooke, the amazing trapeze artist.
04:07She saw the broken boy in him.
04:09He saw her natural inner beauty.

04:23Finally, inspected for his abilities and close to the woman he fell in love with.
04:27fell in love with well this is how Jones imagined it would be but in reality it
04:42was torture they were barely fed and worked long hours performers were locked
04:46in their caravans at night Jones was not hired to perform his contract said that
04:56he had to make enough money for them to retire her right by some boy he's a
05:00nickel and I'll go and make a lot of money
05:07Jones started to betray his powers to make them enough money
05:13he wanted to get out of there as fast as possible take Brooke with him
05:25being disconnected with nature made him lose his powers
05:44hey put that apple down that's more than enough money just bring us a suitcase and take all the
05:59performers with you we don't need them anymore
06:01being united with Brooke after all this time gave Jones his power back
06:19with their love combined it became even stronger than before
06:23so

07:01Marco I loved your performance and your movie does the story from this act spring from your life
07:09I knew you were gonna ask that but no not really no no I never had a bison head
07:14does being a magician make you a better director or does being a director make you a better
07:20magician I think both actually I think it's about telling stories is about provoking emotions or
07:27creating emotions in people which is things that I find interesting and it's both in directing and
07:32both in magic either way there's something to say for it yeah all right Marco let's find out if the

07:45on this show that are all over the place but you have created a piece of magical theater that is
07:53just unbelievable we are just flabbergasted and furthermore you've done it just for this show
08:01just for us I mean we're in this Brooke is in this the amount of work that you've done for us is just
08:10amazing and just beautiful and so obsessive and it it leaves me with one question what the hell is
08:20wrong with you it's so amazing thank you if we had a trophy for the most unusual thing we've ever had
08:31the strangest thing the most mind-blowing thing we would have 12 seasons worth coming down you you
08:39didn't fool us but you flattered us blew our minds flabbergasted us and just honored us in the most
08:47unusual way possible just amazing Marco thank you very much

09:38Luxembourg is a country smaller than Rhode Island I'm one of the only full-time magicians here
09:46a big fish in a small pound I do card magic mainly and it's a serious thing to me for me a single deck
09:53is as versatile as a musical instrument you express yourself in a deep and personal way by how you move
10:01your hands my first time on Fool Us I did Lego magic trying to be unique we love the routine and we
10:10think they have a pretty good idea how you did bad move I didn't fool them at all but tonight we play at
10:18cards something I've done my whole life Penn and Teller know a lot but they don't know it all no one
10:25does and I truly believe there's a chance

10:43tonight I'd like to try something very special for you thank you because you see most of the time when
10:48magicians say I'm going to teach you how a trick is done they don't do that they do not do that around here
10:55so tonight I will really teach you okay our trick is not done oh all right yeah
11:02maybe in the process I can fool you oh first thing first some magicians would blow to deck of
11:09cards that have been secretly prepared in a very specific order to help them find
11:13selections I am NOT doing that okay good not at all cats can be cut so cutting only once is
11:22not enough to make sure the deck is not stuck in my favor if you want to cut you can do what we call
11:28multiple cuts like that okay the best way is what we call the riffle shuffle where you just
11:36before the cast as it's all right but if I have for instance 52 aces of spade I could cut and shuffle all
11:44day this wouldn't change a thing all right so that's why I have to show you that no two cards
11:50are the same yes I am NOT using duplicate that's for the faces because obviously for the backs that's the
11:57exact opposite I mean this back is exactly the same as this one and this one and this one because I am
12:03not a much man all right okay thank you so much and even though we're in Vegas this trick is not
12:10done with strippers or basically anything that would creep my style okay okay good so far so good you're
12:19with me okay now some magicians would also try to have you select a very specific card I am not doing
12:26that instead I ask you group to make two pies if you can okay anywhere you want excellent so far so
12:33good yes okay I will turn my head away because I don't want to see your cards but please don't forget
12:38it okay got it got it got it all right and now in theory I could try to do something very sneaky with
12:47my hands while I distract you with I don't know something like that
12:54haha it works and while you all look away I very quickly place your card where I wanted to but I'm not
13:01doing that don't watch the monkey all right okay good so instead I will do this multiple good sequence
13:09that I like and some magician will not let you be part of the shuffling sequence but I'm not doing that
13:16okay so I will make some pies like this I think we have enough room for maybe eight pies all right
13:25and Brooke I'll just follow your instructions on how to reassemble the deck so for my right hand please
13:31point to any pile you want this one over there excellent and then for my left hand yes and right and

14:03decided that this card gets followed by this one then come this one then this one and the old but for instance
14:08this card could have been card number seven or nine or eleven or twenty five and this is not a lie

18:21and I started acting like a magician
18:23the second I opened the box.
18:25I am a magician, a musician,
18:27and a variety show master of ceremonies.
18:30The audience's energy is a life force to me.
18:33Berlin is the perfect place to be a magician,
18:36because it's a city of flux and change.
18:39In the Cold War, there were two buildings.
18:42The Berlin Wall split the city in half.
18:44Time stopped.
18:46And when the wall came down,
18:48time started again.
18:51I think that's what drew me to magic,
18:53this idea of change.
18:55From this to that.
18:57From skeptic to believer.

23:04What are the essential skills for a magician a magician no perform magic of course, but I think
23:11Telling a story is more important and is there an underlining story in this act the schnapps yes drinking
23:20Obvious the very easy thing
23:24Do you think you have a shot at fooling pen and teller? I really don't know

23:39Just perfect in every way just the right level of whimsical and funny and the right level of amazing
23:47It's just a wonderful act that we like from beginning to end and your performance of it is just beautiful
23:53Now fortunately you're using a variation on a prop that max malini used and also another duo used pen and teller
24:02We've done a version of this trick and we know that that trick is also
24:09Often ended with a shot glass with liquid in it
24:13So we're familiar with all of that which is rather unfortunate for you because we know a lot of the technology on this
24:21But we don't know how you refilled the damn glass
24:24So you fooled us

25:22Hello i'm kiona and i'm from london make it rain
25:27Last year when i was on fool us i had an incredible experience
25:30But it was also really intimidating because i've never performed in front of an audience so big you've got the two ladders there
25:37Which is really nice and you get all the different color papers
25:40I like bright colors and i have a lot of funky colorful clothes color is also great for misdirection in magic
25:47I use it to help me fool people
25:49When i'm not performing magic i help teach at a special educational needs school
25:54The idea for tonight's trick came to me one day when i was working with the children it sort of just clicked
26:00So i am really excited to be back on the fool us stage
26:05Hopefully i won't be as nervous as last time
26:07It's time to see whether i've learned enough to fool pen and teller
26:18Making her way to our stage from across the pond is kiona
26:24Hello so as you know from my introduction i help teach kids at school that are special educational needs
26:32Now no matter what their struggles or difficulties are i feel inspired by them every single day and that that truly is magical
26:41But because some of the students struggle to recognize numbers and colors i created a game
26:46A game where the students will hide numbered blocks just like these underneath colored cups just like these ones
26:52And i attempt to match all of their choices but without looking so it's a little bit like mind reading
27:00The kids absolutely love it hopefully you will too
27:04But the thing is i've never taken on a fully grown adult before
27:08So brooke would you be my incredible helper tonight please
27:18Please could you stand behind the table on the opposite side of the screen from me okay thank you
27:25Okay
27:26Now that we're on opposite sides of the screen brooke can't see anything that i'm doing
27:30And i can't see anything that brooke's doing brooke can you hear me well yes can you see me well no okay good
27:37It's working well in front of you as you can see there are five positions one to five yes
27:42Please could you take five numbered blocks and place them in a completely random order on the positions in front of you
27:48And then once you've done that please could you take five colored cups and then place those on top
27:53Please could you do that now yes thank you now whilst brooke does that i would like to point out we have the exact same setup
28:02Five positions one to five six numbered blocks and six colored cups
28:09Brooke have you finished almost i'm putting the cups on top of my numbers right
28:15I'm finished okay perfect thank you now before we carry on
28:20Please could you take the um the leftover cup the one that's not been used and the leftover
28:26Numbered cube that's not being used and just place them out of sight under the table away okay
28:31I've done that now i could claim i'm going to use my psychic powers but in truth i'm going to use logic
28:39The power of the obvious and obviously i'm gonna get this right so
28:45Uh okay brooke we're probably gonna do this and then brooke we'll do this and then like um
28:54So maybe you should do this and then
28:57And then this and then this
28:59Okay yeah that seems about right now for the hardest part matching the colored cup with the numbered cube
29:06But i'm going to attempt to do this using associative engineering known in its neurological circles by its scientific term
29:17Guessing

29:20So brooke's probably done a pink and then she's probably done a yellow green
29:26So maybe a yellow and then a green and then like it's just probably done a blue and then yeah

29:44Pink okay i also have the pink and brooke could you please lift up the pink cup place it behind the numbered block
29:51So that everyone can see the number and let everyone know what number you have number two

30:08Perfect and underneath the yellow cup what number do you have five
30:11And i also have the number five

30:56I've got it remember i never said that i would match brooke's order i only said i would match all of brooke's choices

31:48How long have you been a magician so just a little over a year now
32:02Wow so are you gonna stick with it yeah definitely i hope to how did you get interested in working with special needs children
32:08Yeah so um for a casting website i started talking to uh people and they um said that they like quite a lot of actors because they're
32:17Usually quite quick thinking on their feet so they can go in and help and also when i do the work
32:22It's so rewarding seeing uh children that really struggle come through and there are some schools i've worked at
32:29And then a year later i've come back and some students that are like five six that couldn't talk
32:34Now can talk and they're starting to say a few words and it's so and they're like hello and it's like really exciting
32:39So you bring them so much joy yeah it's really nice well kiona your trick was amazing but let's see if you fooled the boys are we ready
32:47Hey kiona i gotta tell you uh just a great great performance your style on stage is just so wonderful
32:54And tying it in to what you obviously have such a strong passion for is just really really beautiful
33:01You speak so well on stage it's just very very wonderful
33:04What's hard about a trick like this is that the way it's done is so new that we don't even have code words for it
33:14We don't even have cutesy little things to say you know if you had something from 200 years ago
33:20We can say all sorts of stuff to tell you those kinds of things you know
33:23We can get the word crimp and shell and everything else in there
33:27But this stuff we don't have code words for it's fairly new and you can seal that
33:32So well by having props that are just
33:36Simple and nothing could possibly be gimmicked about them and the truth is
33:41Nothing is gimmicked about them those are just blocks those are just cups
33:47But you've got all sorts of other stuff going on
33:51The blocks and the cups are completely innocent, but everything else including you is not
33:57Oh
33:59At least that's what we think we think that there's not as much innocence in you or the things around as there are in the cups and the blocks
34:08That's what we think do they know how you did your magic. Yes, definitely a very small

40:13chocolate chocolate that's what you'd expect in there and now oh look one of the chocolates is floating in the air
