00:00Well this is a fun game isn't it? If I suddenly go into a much harder gear, watch this.
00:07All right we'll go easier. Look what's just arrived. Yep if you're looking for a new turbo
00:13then there's a new one to consider. This is the new Elite Revo and whilst most other turbos are
00:20bashing on about how many decimal places they can measure your power to, this one promises
00:25something a bit different. Premium features in a compact and accessible format. Elite says that
00:31this makes it ideal for those new to indoor cycling or anyone who wants to keep ease of use
00:36and advanced performance at the centre of their experience. So here's everything that you need to
00:41know about it and a few things that you probably don't. Firstly let's take a look at some of the
00:47headline stats that I have here. So the new Revo starts at £499 which makes it one of the most
00:54affordable in Elite's interactive turbo trainer range. Number two it's available with either a
01:01free hub body to take whichever cassette you might want to fit to it or the one that we have here
01:07which is compatible with Zwift's new cog and click system. More on that in a minute. Three it has an
01:14accuracy of plus or minus two and a half percent which let's be honest is probably more accurate
01:20than the power meter that you use outside. The turbo also has a maximum resistance of 2000 watts at
01:2740 kph and that means that it can simulate gradients of up to 18% which let's be honest I'm not going to
01:34be troubling those kinds of numbers. And finally something quite unique about this turbo is the fact
01:39that it can be used without a connection or power going to it. So that means that you can set the
01:46resistance to whatever you want in the in the app beforehand it remembers that and then you can use
01:52it without an internet connection or power. You know how I'm meant to be setting this up? Well what if we
01:59gave it to a absolute indoor training newbie? I think that would be better wouldn't it because then we'd get
02:06sort of their take on it rather than just all the super nerdy details which which I like. Who can I
02:13ring? Hello? Hiya mum how are you? I'm all right how are you? You all right? Yes yes yeah I'm fine. I was just
02:22wondering I've got a new turbo trainer at work and I wondered if you wanted to come and try it out.
02:27Does that sound like something I'm qualified to do? Yeah well the thing is this one may be yes.
02:39Go on. Oh okay. Come on give it a go. Okay yeah no I'm up for that if you reckon I'll be able to do it.
02:46We'll see you in a bit. Right mum here it is the new Elite Revo so it's a turbo trainer but potentially
02:57not like you've seen before so I don't know what that bit's for we'll get to that bit in a minute.
03:05What have you got? Plugs. Plugs good yeah we'll need them as well. Right grab it out then.
03:12Lovely. So first thing I've noticed is that you have picked it up. Yes I don't think I've ever
03:23been able to pick up a turbo trainer before. No I don't think you have either. Look at this one-handed.
03:29So is there anything else that you notice that is different about this turbo to
03:43any that you've seen before? This bit? Yes. You know how you normally try and put your bike onto let's
03:52say my turbo or to dad's turbo for example and it doesn't always work right but that's because your
03:59bike has a different number of gears to let's say my bike and so you'd need to change the cassette which
04:08have you ever changed cassette before? No because I leave it for you to do but I have had to do it or
04:15it's had to be done. Yeah. So I could put my bike on this. So you can put your bike on this. And you
04:20could put your bike on this. I can put my bike on this. Dad can put his bike on this. We can all put
04:25our bikes on this because it's just it's a single speed in effect and no that doesn't make it harder
04:30work because in a minute I'll show you how you actually change gear when you're when you're riding
04:35along and it also means that when you go to purchase your turbo you can just buy this with with a
04:41Zwift click and cog and you don't have to worry about how many speeds your bike has. Sounds too
04:47good to be true at the moment let's let's make it. So we're following these instructions we've got to
04:52put some legs on so we need to put the middle one on. The shorter one. Yeah.
04:58How would you describe your turbo training experience so far? I do enjoy turbo training
05:15but I'm not very accomplished at getting my bike on and off it.
05:19Yeah so I guess turbo training for you just isn't worth the hassle because by the time you've got
05:30your bike on it. Sunny again. I doubt that we live in the UK so obviously this is we only have to do
05:38this time. We only have to do this once. After this it'll be even quicker but I wanted to see if this
05:47this turbo trainer really is beginner friendly. No beginner friendly.
05:55So far it's not doing half bad. Well it makes a lot of difference when you can actually physically
06:02pick it up as well. Yeah. Because some of them are so heavy. They're also a pain to store sometimes.
06:09Because they're. The amount of turbos that don't have handles and there's no good reason for a turbo to
06:16not have a handle. I'm going to tighten this one now. Yeah yeah tighten them all up.
06:24Oh this is this is one of my easier days at work. Story of your life James.
06:30Getting your mother to do things for you.
06:34Right go on then. And then these open out.
06:36Yes. Yep for when you're doing your sprints. Oh always.
06:48Are you even practicing getting up fast just for the camera?
06:52No I did just think hmm that like an old lady.
06:55Right what does it say? It says bike is not included.
07:04Okay game. Through axle or quick release. Right. Well through axle.
07:10Oh hello. I know these things. Right bike. And this is where I normally go.
07:17Jamie. Right. There you go. Thank you. You have the instructions. Basically I just need to take my wheel out.
07:28Yes. So yeah like your old turbo was a wheel on turbo. Which was much easier to put it on but
07:36I wore out tires. Well it was only easier to put it on because we put the other skewer in for you.
07:40Yeah yeah. Nice. Nice. Yeah. And I'll put this over here.
07:50Okay so I'll take this off. Yeah. What does this little number mean here?
07:54You don't ask me. I bet it says on there. So where my chain is?
08:00Yeah so where your derailleur is like in relation to this. So it sorts out your chain line
08:06for when it's making loads of noise. So if it's noisy. I'm good at that. You can spin it.
08:12And I think even you might manage that. So we need to put this on here. And it needs to go all the way
08:19down here. Yeah. Is that right? Mm-hmm. Up a bit. A little bit.
08:26Cool. We're on. So do you think that that is something that you could do on your own?
08:42Yes. Are we ready? Is it ready to go? Is that?
08:47Oh you're the one with the instructions. You threw them on the floor. We've lost the instructions.
08:52So yeah. So you just need to make sure that your derailleur is in line with this cog.
08:59And then yeah. Yeah. Just pedals. And then if it does make lots of noise then we can then twist this bit.
09:09Like that. And you see it just moves it a little bit.
09:13Just moves it slightly further out each time. Until I imagine we get to a point and it goes back.
09:19Ready? That's 10. That one.
09:24Cool. But yeah. We'll see what that's like when you're pedaling.
09:28Right. If you hop on there then. And then we'll get this bit set up.
09:35So in here we have some elastic bandy things. And then we have these two little things.
09:46So these are what you're going to use to change gear. Okay. So we've got one. We're going to pop it there.
09:55We've got one that we're going to pop over here. And then you've got all your controls
10:02from Zwift on your handlebars. And that's what you're going to use to change gear.
10:07So they're on there. And now you've got this minus. So that's going to make it easier for you.
10:13Easier gear. And the plus is going to make it a harder gear for you. And then these controls are
10:17for navigating around Zwift. So now when you open Zwift you can, well you can set it up. So go.
10:27So I need a power source. Yeah. Which is. Yeah. RevoCog. Cool. So if I click on it. Yeah.
10:39And then what we're also going to do is add it as a resistance.
10:46And it will also measure your cadence. You don't have a heart rate monitor on so we can't add that.
10:50So what we can then do as well is add a control. Zwift click, which is these bits here. So if we
10:56put a tick in that box, then we've got those two. And then we can say let's go. And I want to
11:03literally see how quickly we can get riding. So if I click here, start ride. We've literally put the
11:12bike on 30 seconds ago. We don't need a challenge. Pedal. And hopefully the avatar will move.
11:24Yeah. There he goes. All right. All right. We said about sprinting. You're at about two times your FTP.
11:31Oh, this is a fun game, isn't it? If I suddenly go into a much harder gear, watch this. All right,
11:49we'll go easier.
11:55So yeah, when you get to a hill, you'll still need to change gear and you can change them doing that.
12:00But also if we make a U-turn by holding down that one, what else can you do? Oh, we can change the view.
12:10We can do an emote. What's one of those when it's at home? Give someone a wave like that. There we go.
12:20We've just waved it at no one because there's no one there. But you can go to your menu or that would
12:27um, ride on bomb. So all the people you're riding with, you give one of those.
12:35And then you can also use this to use your power ups as well. But we're focusing mainly on the,
12:41on the gears. So yeah, here you can see that that's what gear you're in. So if you click those and go
12:47through them and you can see that that changes and you go up through the gear. So now you're in gear two.
12:53So one of the easiest gears. And if you click the plus, then you'll go back through them and that'll
12:57make it harder. That's really easy to use. How do, how have you found it so far then?
13:03It runs really smooth. When I had my old turbo trainer with my wheel on,
13:10if you did any out of the saddle stuff, it was really jerky.
13:13You would. Ah, well that was probably with your wheel on one, you know, you had to set the tension.
13:21That was always a bit of a pain or like as your tire pressure changed, sometimes that made a
13:26difference. Yeah. So yeah, there's not going to be any slippage and it's got a maximum resistance of 2000
13:34watts. So I think I'll be safe. Go on, give it a go.
13:37So what do you think your maximum wattage is? For how long?
13:45Two seconds? Yeah. Probably your average.
13:52200. Oh, we got 300.
13:57372. There we go. You can work on that. Yeah.
14:11So do you reckon you're sold? Do we need to get you your own Zwift account?
14:14Yes, definitely. And do you reckon you can actually set it up by yourself and take it down again?
14:21Yeah, it was quite, it was straightforward.
14:27So there you go. The new Elite Revo. A nice reminder that turbo training is nowhere near as
14:34complicated as it was 15 years ago. Let me know whether you agree or disagree down in the comments
14:39below. And if you want to find out anything else about the Elite Revo, then we'll pop a link to the
14:44website down in the description. As always, if you like this content, then please give it a like,
14:49subscribe to the channel and we'll see you next time. Right. Sprint. Go, go, go, go.
