00:00I'm like, freeze, I'm like, hold it, and then I get in the car.
00:05I mean, not like right now, but you're amazing, and I'm having a blast with you.
00:09I want to do a birthday movie.
00:12Every day.
00:14Devine, we're getting into holdover season.
00:16Every time we get into Christmas, it's like one of my favorite films.
00:19It's one of my favorite films ever.
00:22I feel like every time we get to Christmas, I tell everyone, I'm like,
00:24have you watched the holdover season?
00:26Please tell everyone.
00:27It's the best film.
00:28I want to buy a car.
00:28Is this the second Christmas?
00:33Second Christmas.
00:34So now the residuals are coming in.
00:37Well, they will.
00:38I haven't seen that check yet.
00:40Yeah, yeah.
00:40It's going to be big.
00:42It is.
00:43It's so good.
00:43That's the key, though, as an actor.
00:46Get a Christmas movie in rotation.
00:49Absolutely.
00:49That was not why I chose holdovers.
00:51Or a Christmas song.
00:53Yeah, like I was in a not so great Christmas movie.
00:57Yeah.
00:57It paced me so well.
00:59Wow.
01:00And that was one of my first movies.
01:01Well, I want to do a birthday movie.
01:04Right.
01:05Every day.
01:06Every day.
01:06Every day.
01:07Literally.
01:07Perfect.
01:08You should take everything off.
01:09It's called Happy Birthday.
01:10You've got an afterlife one done.
01:11I don't know how that fits into the whole scheme.
01:14We'll work it out.
01:15Exactly.
01:15Maybe nursing homes will play a lot.
01:18But you know what I'm finding?
01:19It's actually younger people like this more than older people.
01:23I don't know if that for older people.
01:25Yes.
01:25At least in the States.
01:26It's too close to home maybe for older people.
01:27That's what I thought.
01:28That it was like, whoa.
01:29Oh, but for the States at least, the younger the better.
01:34Hey, I mean, I like to think I'm still young.
01:36Absolutely.
01:37You see yourself.
01:38So there we go.
01:38Oh, bless you.
01:40Thanks, babe.
01:40Your looks in here, Devine.
01:42Like, you just, no, I don't mean like you looked gorgeous, but the way that you just look.
01:48Oh, oh, yeah.
01:48Oh, oh, oh.
01:49And you can tell.
01:50She made my facial expression.
01:51Right?
01:52Oh, oh, okay.
01:52Do you practice those in the mirror or does that all just come naturally?
01:56It's too effortless.
01:56Right?
01:57It's natural.
01:58I'll answer for you.
01:59I'm just, okay.
02:00It's complete ease, flow, state.
02:03It's so natural.
02:04But it only happens when I feel comfortable.
02:06Yeah.
02:06Like, I feel very comfortable with him.
02:09Yeah.
02:09And so I think because of that, because even when I watched it the first time, I was like,
02:14what are you, shut up, what are you doing?
02:15Like, all.
02:16About you?
02:16Yeah, all these little, like, I wasn't even aware, honestly, that, like,
02:22my face are these little, like, like, these little sound effects that I make.
02:26That I was like, is that real life?
02:27Wow.
02:28Meanwhile, I'm, like, in the mirror.
02:29I'm, like, I'm, like, freeze.
02:31I'm, like, hold it.
02:32And then I get in the car.
02:33I'm, like, where's the car?
02:36And then they, like, bring me out.
02:38I'm in hair and makeup.
02:39And they bring me out.
02:39And I'm, like, and action.
02:42And you nailed it.
02:43I saw that exact look in the film.
02:45It was great.
02:45It was great.
02:47John, you as an AC, you described Elizabeth's character as
02:52smart, passionate, and decisive.
02:54So if you two were each other's, AC, what would you describe the other as?
02:57A free spirit, full of love.
03:01Full of love, you are.
03:03That's true.
03:03That's true.
03:04So kind.
03:05Has such a beautiful, beautiful heart.
03:08And really cares about others.
03:11That is so sweet.
03:12No, it's true.
03:13That is cute.
03:14Kind, genius.
03:18Thanks.
03:19And really, a really underrated comedic force.
03:24Oh.
03:25Although maybe you've done tons of comedy stuff.
03:28But you know what?
03:28When I first...
03:29When you win the Oscar for a kind of dramatic role, people maybe forget.
03:35They do.
03:36Yeah.
03:36Promise you, they do.
03:37Yeah.
03:38Mm-hmm.
03:38I've literally...
03:39There's been certain parts where they're like, can she do comedy?
03:42No problem.
03:43I promise you.
03:44Yeah, interesting.
03:45But it's funny because when I first moved to LA, when I first started auditioning, people
03:50were like, UCP?
03:52And I was like, no.
03:54No.
03:54Yeah.
03:55No.
03:56And I don't know.
03:57Maybe I should take a class there.
03:58No, you're great.
03:59No, but I'm saying, like, do you know what I mean?
04:01Make them see this film.
04:03Okay, that's true.
04:04And then they'll see it, right?
04:04That's true.
04:04That's it.
04:05Apologies if you've been asked this a million times.
04:08You have amazing brows, by the way.
04:09Sorry.
04:10Oh, thanks.
04:10I try to draw them on every day because I over plucked them in the 90s.
04:13And now they're just trying to throw them back.
04:15They don't come back.
04:15They don't come back.
04:15Oh, really good.
04:17Sorry, I got distracted.
04:18That's okay.
04:19From one brow girl to another.
04:20What era of your life do you think you would manifest yourself in the afterlife if you came back?
04:26So obviously you go back to the time when you were happiest.
04:29Yeah.
04:29The period that I may be the most nostalgic for, I don't know if that actually means I was the happiest.
04:33Sure, sure.
04:34That's valid.
04:34That means the opposite, probably.
04:36Yeah.
04:36But like is this like kind of when I was hosting this variety show in New York with one of my best friends.
04:42And it was like just like a really gorgeous time.
04:45And I would make a little short film for each show.
04:48And so it just it had a nice little shape.
04:50You felt like in your creative bag.
04:51Yeah.
04:52It was.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Mid-20s?
04:54Yeah.
04:55Nice.
04:56That's nice.
04:56But there are so many things about that time that I also would hate to read.
05:00Of course.
05:00Yeah.
05:00But if you had that one moment, that's all it is, isn't it, right?
05:03Yeah.
05:04It's that one moment.
05:04Yeah.
05:05How about you, Davide?
05:06Be real.
05:06I don't hate this.
05:07Be real.
05:08It's now.
05:09I mean, not like right now.
05:10But you're amazing and I'm having a blast with you.
05:13But like my life now.
05:15And it's not because of the obvious reasons.
05:16It's not because of the awards.
05:17It's on a more personal level.
05:19I think because people have been like, oh my God, since the Oscar, like what?
05:24And I've been honest and been like, it's just, they asked, how has your life changed?
05:28And I said, it has dramatically.
05:30And the biggest reason is there's just more.
05:34But there's more of everything, right?
05:37Like all the things that come with being an actor, the high and lows, it's like times 20.
05:43There's just more.
05:44But what I like most is the person that I am now in the midst of all the more that I'm like, okay, we're okay.
05:52We can handle things.
05:54And I like that I'm still growing and becoming myself.
06:01I think prior to, I let my career predicate my feelings and how I live my life.
06:07And I'm enjoying that I'm like, enjoying me in spite of or in addition to my career.
06:14It's hard being an actor or like an entertainer, a comedian, whatever.
06:18It's sometimes it feels like in order to be successful, we have to devote an extreme amount of time and focus.
06:28That, at least for me, in order to have done so, I had to miss out, or I chose, let's be honest.
06:35I chose to miss out on a lot of life things.
06:38And I don't want to do that anymore.
06:40And so I'm in that journey of that.
06:43And I'm already noticing like positive, you know, stuff from it.
06:48Where is your Oscar?
06:49So people were talking about it too much and I was getting embarrassed because I was telling people that the truth, because I don't lie, that it was in a storage box.
06:59But it's because we had the fires.
07:01Oh, Jesus.
07:02Yeah, we had the fires.
07:03I had just left to go film a movie in Paris and I was like, you put them in a box.
07:09Yeah.
07:09Put them all in a box.
07:10And I got really scared and so it was in a storage unit in a box.
07:14Thanks for asking an extra question because I was wrapped.
07:17I had to go, but you asked it.
07:20I was like, cool, just go with it.
07:21Lovely to see you guys.
07:22So lovely to see you.
07:23Congratulations.
07:24It felt so great.
07:25Thank you so much.
