00:00okay good morning thank you for joining us we will take the usual format today and begin
00:23with a broad broadcast section starting with Gail Davis and Sky Sports News
00:28no just just Moy is suspended and then we don't have any new injury
00:49it's a muscle problem and we don't know yet when he can be back
01:00we don't know
01:06when you've had a result but more performance that you did on Wednesday
01:13how do you react how have you seen the players react when you watch it back were you angry
01:23how do you convey that do you shout do you scream do you need the players to kind of consider it
01:27themselves do you pick people out explain your process because that's I don't know what do you say
01:34one of the worst performances of the season so far
01:37since the end of the game I didn't see the players because we come back from Leeds yesterday afternoon
01:47and I will see the players in a while and we we're gonna have time just to focus on tomorrow game because
01:57probably in less than 24 hours we have another game
02:02I know you always like to look forward but when you had a performance like that surely you do have to look back and ask some questions
02:11yeah we were
02:12yeah I didn't I didn't I just said I didn't see the players yesterday but I watched I watched the game back for sure
02:19we did many things bad probably we also paid the bill to play one hour with 10 players against Arsenal
02:31we also probably paid bill in terms of leads away probably in some way can be more complicated than the previous game
02:44and as I said we watch the game and there are things that for sure we need to avoid in the future
02:51I know you talked a lot about rotation and I know you are protecting certain players and certain minutes
02:56and you've had a very long season and you hope to have a very long season
02:59but when you make five changes in the positions that you did
03:04how much is that there's almost like in the back of your mind a sense of inevitability
03:10and you spoke afterwards and said when I don't play for these changes and I don't play for fire
03:15I kind of have to expect a drop off in performance
03:18but how much is that rotation costing you and making as many changes as you did or won't say?
03:24most of the rotation we do is because the other one they cannot play
03:29so we have players that they are in this moment not able to play every three days
03:37and the reason why most of the rotation we have done in the past is for the reason why
03:46Had it been another team over in Leeds away might that team look different is what I'm saying to you?
03:52No, it's just again it's always the same thing you know when you pick 11 players and you win everything is fine
04:02when you pick 11 players you don't win there is always the reason why for sure
04:07again I think we playing with 10 players for one hour and then after three days go to Leeds is not the best situation for us
04:18but in the future in case it happens we need to be better we need to do many things better
04:24Just finally for me, how much, you clearly some of it is about rotation but how much is it down to kind of almost like a lack of leadership in your side
04:33it really drives that performance a lot of the time and actually if I say it does setting the tone
04:40how hard is it with such a young team to develop those leaders that can take a game like Leeds by the scruff of their neck and say guys this is what we need from you?
04:50It's not, it's not hard, it's enjoyable. I love young squad, I love young players and I'm delighted with the players I have
04:58Saraya?
04:59Hi, against Leeds you put Canaba right back spotting centre-back, obviously we know you're managing the rotating players but it seems like when Fofana is out
05:09maybe that Achiampong is the most similar to Fofana, so approaching that what games do you see Achiampong fit best in his qualities and why did you make that sort of move?
05:21One of the regrets I have after the game is I didn't play with Josh, so the reason why we play with Trev, Tos and Benoit is because analysing them we saw that most of the time they were playing long ball for Calvert-Lewin, for Nemecza
05:37and so we prefer, you know, physicality win, ideal duels but even with that we lost most of them.
05:45There's three points between 4th and 10th in the Premier League right now, it's very competitive.
05:51We've got Bournemouth next, they play very different to Leeds, they're more man-to-man, they have a higher press so they should be more space for you.
05:58How hard is it though when you're playing against these teams where you like to hold possession, you said you like to have most of the ball,
06:05but you know that maybe balls higher up the pitch will maybe get you better results? How is that going to impact who you pick?
06:13I think Bournemouth will be a similar game to Leeds, that's why we need to be better, they are intense, Leeds was very intense,
06:23I think I said after the game that they were better than us in all the aspects and hopefully we can learn from that and be ready for tomorrow.
06:34The rotation that you're doing this season you just said is very, very different.
06:38Last season you were playing in the Conference League where maybe the opponents that you had were lower level.
06:43Now you're playing in the Champions League and your core, your structured core, the Rhys James, the Caicedos, all of these players,
06:51they either have to be managed much more gently or have longer term injuries.
06:56Is the expectations too high for Chelsea at the moment when you do have that issue that maybe the other big six clubs don't have to deal with?
07:05I don't know for the other club for sure, I know our situation that we need, as I said many times, we have players because of the history that we need to manage,
07:17again Wes, Rhys, Pedro, we have four or five players, Romeo now is injured, but we have four or five players that for their history we need to protect, we need to manage,
07:29and I said many times that I would like to play all the games with Rhys, with Pedro, with Moy, with these kind of players, even with Romeo,
07:39but it's not possible so we try to find a different solution.
07:44Thanks, Soraya. John?
07:46Were you surprised by the performance against Leeds, especially after Barcelona and Arsenal?
07:51Did you think those kind of performances, those days, could have gone?
07:55I was very surprised about the performance, no doubt, because I expect more in general, in all the aspects, but also, again,
08:07when we prepared the game, we analysed all the small details, we were aware about Arsenal games to play with ten players for one hour,
08:16making some rotation because we need to protect players, so we were ready, that probably in some moment,
08:24we struggled, but not for the entire game.
08:27Do you think the balance is right? I mean, you're right, you've got a really good young side, talented side,
08:32but do you need more experience? I mean, should that be reflected in recruitment, and should it be going forward?
08:38That is what you need. Do you actually need some more experience to help the younger players?
08:43Listen, we always talk about experience when we draw points. When we beat Barcelona and we drew against Arsenal,
08:53no one was mentioning about an experienced player, so again, I understand that when we don't win,
08:58we are always looking for the reason why, but I think the reason why we didn't win against Leeds
09:03is not because of the experience, it's because we were not good enough.
09:08But we have experienced players, unfortunately they were not inside the pitch, one because he was suspended,
09:16the other one because of their injury, so it's not an ace, because in that moment,
09:21the ones that had more experience, they were out. Who was the oldest one for us in the pitch?
09:31Who was tossing? Did he play good?
09:38Yeah, so it's not about experience, it's about that 11 players plus the one that they were inside,
09:44they were not good enough, so it's not, again, I know that we are always looking for experience,
09:48but it was a bad game for all of us.
09:52And another one coming up, how are you finding the schedule? It's demanding, isn't it?
09:57Is it tough for you? Is it mentally tough? You've got to keep changing the squad,
10:00you've got to rotate it around, how difficult is it for you?
10:03Yeah, it's the most difficult thing for me personally this season, because as I said,
10:09for many reasons we need to make changes. Now we played two days ago, we came back yesterday afternoon,
10:16we have just one session this morning, most of them, they cannot take part of the session
10:21because they need to recover it, so we're going to try to prepare in the best way tomorrow game.
10:26Thanks, John. Simon?
10:28Hi Enzo, when we asked you about Estabal on Wednesday, you sort of made a kind welcome to the Premier League,
10:36welcome to the League, I just wondered whether this is sort of like something you're going to have to get used to now
10:41in terms of teams targeting him because he's so good, and of course perhaps that's why you made a deliberate attempt to protect him a bit more,
10:50by not playing every single game.
10:53My feeling was not that Leeds target him, I think my feeling after the game is that Leeds, they target all our players,
11:02it's not just Esteval, for him, my comment after the game is because he's 18, he's from Brazil,
11:09probably didn't know where we were going to play, and when, you know, probably the English players,
11:14they know Leeds how he is, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, you know, they are all stadiums that are a bit different
11:20compared to the rest in terms of environment, and it's something that will be a process for him to be better and better.
11:30Yeah, because inevitably, there's been so much positive said about our best fan, rightly so,
11:36but this is something you've got to get used to in terms of handling it,
11:39but the way he kicked out was a sign that, you know, he's young, he's going to make mistakes like that.
11:45Yeah, that's why I said many times that also with him, it's too easy to put him always on the pitch,
11:51you know, pitch, pitch, play, play, play, but in some moments we need to try to manage a little bit.
11:57No, it's because Faco is working well, he played some games at the beginning for many reasons,
12:11because Cole was injured, because Liam was injured, so we had more space for him,
12:17but in this moment we have all the players back, the weekend, again, Wes, not the weekend, sorry,
12:23the game against the Leeds, Wes was not even in the squad,
12:26Ty was not even in the squad, Faco was not even in the squad,
12:29for there is not any reason, the reason why is just because we have already players in this position that they are back.
12:38Okay, thank you Simon, cameras off please.
12:43All right.
12:44All right.
12:45What may I mean?
12:46You know...
12:47All right.
12:48Let's go.
12:49Well, that's how I love now.
12:51Let's go.
