00:00It's clear, the momentum of this region is unstoppable.
00:04And that is why Doha is the perfect place for our newest MWC.
00:11AI-powered networks, 5G innovations, smart city infrastructure and IoT.
00:18GSMA's MWC series has arrived in Qatar and the atmosphere is electric.
00:24More than 400 billion euros.
00:27That's how much GSMA is forecasting for the mobile sector to contribute to the MENA economy by 2030.
00:35Can you tell us firstly, what does this expansion mean to GSMA, but also to Qatar and the region?
00:42A region you happen to know very well.
00:43The region is moving and so there's a lot of energy.
00:46Digital transformation is happening here.
00:48And over the years, I would say the GCC region first and the MENA region more broadly have become,
00:56I would say, top leaders as well.
00:59So being here is natural for GSMA because we get to be part of these conversations that are extremely dynamic.
01:07It's clear that the world of connectivity is moving and evolving so fast.
01:11What is MWC and GSMA's approach to make sure that the global digital divide narrows and not widens?
01:18Today, there's 3 billion people who are within reach of a mobile signal, so they're in a coverage area, but they don't connect to the mobile internet.
01:29And so it's important to bring them in.
01:32And we know what needs to be done.
01:34We need to get them affordable smartphones.
01:36We need to give them skills and training.
01:38They would contribute $3 trillion to the world's economies.
01:42It's actually a wasted opportunity for the whole planet, for all these people,
01:46to have access to digital tools to improve their lives and the economy.
01:50Dubai-based digital operator Vion is going a step further by boosting connectivity to a population facing major challenges.
02:00The NASDAQ-listed firm launched a partnership with Starlink to provide satellite-to-mobile service to millions of people in Ukraine.
02:07This is the first time this is happening in Europe.
02:10This constellation actually uses our spectrum and directly emits 4G coverage.
02:17So that's why any phone with 4G capabilities will be able to just see the sky and get connected.
02:24And in the first 24 hours after we activated the service, almost half a million people utilize this service.
02:31MWC-25 Doha introduced an international platform called 4YFN to the region,
02:38a network of organizations aiming to support startups and entrepreneurs.
02:43It's where venture capital firm Utopia and its partner, Qatar Development Bank,
02:48launched Qatar's first AI-focused venture studio, simply called The Studio.
02:54We are co-building with domain experts, as well as re-engineering existing ventures
02:59to take them from idea stage to series A in less than 24 months.
03:04So the venture studio is going to do these two things,
03:07by providing all AI and tech stack support as infrastructure to these domain experts,
03:13as well as providing commercialization support to go-to-market support,
03:19so that we can actually expand and facilitate that scalability for these companies across our geographies.
03:264YFN's pool of promising young founders is also where one of the world's most decorated football clubs,
03:34FC Barcelona, is scouting for talent through its sports innovation arm, Barca Innovation Hub.
03:41We have right now 16 portfolio companies with the ability to touch in any single corner of the club,
03:47from the sports performance but also on the business side of things,
03:50treating our fans and our athletes with the best technology that we can develop.
03:54Other than startups, robots and the latest innovations in telecommunications,
04:00MWC Doha also puts a spotlight on the future of mobility and smart city infrastructure.
04:06Cities will run on autonomous systems across the world.
04:09It's not only mobility, it's also healthcare, it's education.
04:12It will touch upon every single aspect of our life.
04:15On mobility, for example, we'll have AVs and autonomous metros and buses
04:20as the backbone of our mobility ecosystems.
04:23That's what we look forward to here in the region.
04:25Driving the engine of growth in any industry requires the conviction of governments and leaders
04:31at the forefront of change, who can implement swift policies to keep pace with the rapid developments in technology.
04:38Historically in the GCC, governments have been the main drivers around any type of development, innovation,
04:44and even digital agendas.
04:45Now with the pace at which technology is changing and certain new techs coming in,
04:49I think governments are very much realizing that there is significant benefit to bring in the private sector
04:54to support them as part of these advances.
