00:00Page three. You belong on the cover, girl.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most noteworthy drag
00:11race seasons that started with promise, but ultimately squandered it through production
00:15favoritism, lackluster storylines, and bizarre judging decisions.
00:19I don't remember you being a sewer-sewer. I'm proud of you.
00:24Number 10. RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars Season 8
00:27Before this season even began, fans' expectations were already high. Candy Muse teased that it felt
00:34like classic drag race. However, what we got was anything but.
00:38Heidi, Jimbo, and myself were on tour before coming on to this competition.
00:43So automatically, we are going to be really close and really great friends.
00:47For starters, Jimbo's march to the crown seemed predetermined.
00:51And although the Fame Games twist was genuinely inventive,
00:54why did a variety show suddenly matter if it was meant to be based on runway packages?
00:58Based on your variety extravaganza performances, I will choose the top two All-Stars of the week.
01:06They will lip-sync against each other for a chance to dramatically increase their total
01:13Fame Game fan votes.
01:16Yes, the season brought back some beloved queens like Heidi and Closet,
01:19but paid her absolute dust until the stars aligned for her to quit.
01:23Then, for no reason, RuPaul introduced a top two for the first time,
01:28preventing fan-favorite Jessica Wilde from making it into the finale.
01:31This competition gave me the opportunity to show every side of Jessica Wilde.
01:37I'm feeling that I am a winner. It's something that no one can take away from me.
01:42And do we even need to talk about those lackluster lip-syncs?
01:45International seasons sometimes need a moment to find their footing,
01:52but Drag Race Italia took that as an invitation to spiral.
01:56The episodes were overly long, poorly edited, and frankly, sometimes boring.
02:01The producers forgot the competition aspect,
02:16giving us two non-elimination episodes in a six-episode season.
02:20Then, in a wild overcorrection, they eliminated two queens in one episode,
02:25not with a double sashay, but with two separate lip-syncs.
02:29Mi dispiace, Norma. Sashay away.
02:36Sure, a Norma Jean's behavior was out of line,
02:39but it hardly warranted a disqualification.
02:41Ultimately, Electrobionic won.
02:44She certainly was a solid queen, but with zero maxi-challenge wins,
02:48there was simply no way of justifying her victory over Farida Kant.
02:51Thankfully, subsequent seasons suggest that the producers have learned a thing or two.
03:07Unlike Drag Race Italia,
03:20the judges on Drag Race Holland watched a queen break the rules and simply shrugged.
03:25Vivaldi was caught secretly keeping a phone in her hotel room,
03:28a blatant contract violation, yet she was allowed to stay.
03:41Then, in the next episode,
03:43Keita Minaj, the undisputed frontrunner, was unexpectedly eliminated.
03:48And who did she lip-sync against?
03:49The queen who should have been disqualified in the first place.
04:03Even if Vivaldi had obliterated Keita in the lip-sync, which she didn't,
04:07the judges had already shown that they were willing to favor a stronger track record
04:11over a good performance when they sent home Ivy Elise instead of the Countess earlier.
04:15These choices tarnished what could have been a truly stellar season of Drag Race.
04:31Number 7. RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13
04:35How does a season shoot itself in the foot before it even gets going?
04:39By splitting its queens into a winner-and-loser circle,
04:42essentially sealing their fates in Episode 1.
04:44If it isn't the B-Squad!
04:48Oh, so that's how it is!
04:50That's how it is!
04:52If it isn't the anywhere to go but downs!
04:55We get it.
04:56Producers clearly wanted to shake things up,
04:58but flooding viewers with so many lip-syncs quickly drained them of any real impact.
05:03There was also a huge pacing problem.
05:05The season crawled along with no eliminations for nearly a month,
05:09an unnecessary COVID-19 special,
05:12and a double shanté that didn't feel remotely earned.
05:15Candy, candy, wait!
05:19Stop.
05:20I'm not ready for you to go.
05:27Not yet.
05:28Meanwhile, several promising storylines fizzled out or went nowhere by the end.
05:33It didn't help that the excellent second series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK was airing simultaneously,
05:38which made all the flaws here even harder to ignore.
05:41And I'm sitting here pretty sick.
05:43And you are pretty!
05:44So let me be arrogant.
05:45Let me be arrogant, baby!
05:47It does not change what I said.
05:49I said what I said!
05:50Number 6.
05:51RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14
05:53For as contentious as this season sometimes got,
05:56it is the closest we've ever come to RuPaul's Best Friends race.
06:00As in, RuPaul thought the queens were her best friends
06:03and didn't want to see any of them sashay away.
06:05We have a top five, dammit.
06:10Gold bars for everyone!
06:14Producers learned nothing from Season 13,
06:17once again featuring several non-elimination episodes
06:20and dragging five queens into the finale.
06:23There was also the chocolate bar twist,
06:25which was obviously just a handy device
06:27to save whichever queen production wasn't done with yet.
06:30Unsurprisingly, the payoff was anticlimactic.
06:33The drag gods have spoken!
06:37Bosco, congratulations, you are safe to slay another day!
06:45Then came Snatch Game,
06:46which was so abysmal that every queen except Deja Sky
06:50landed in the bottom
06:51and had to compete in a lip-sync smackdown.
06:53While it introduced several memorable queens,
06:56the season itself was chocolate.
06:58As in, crap.
06:59Hush yourself, little girl!
07:01There will be a wedding today,
07:04even if I have to marry you myself!
07:08Number 5.
07:09RuPaul's Drag Race UK Series 7
07:11RuPaul's Drag Race UK seems to have a frustrating pattern
07:26of following a stellar season with a lackluster one.
07:30But while Series 3 still had some redeeming qualities,
07:33there are barely any in the seventh installment.
07:36I'm a famous actress now,
07:37and quite frankly,
07:39you are sloppy seconds.
07:44No way!
07:46My 17th divorce paid for this face.
07:48Producers seem to have gone in with a preordained top two
07:51and simply booted off anyone who threatened that plan.
07:55Also, the cast was populated with young contestants
07:58and lacked the dynamic mix of fresh faces
08:00and seasoned veterans
08:01that made Series 6 so unforgettable.
08:03When did you start doing drag?
08:04This is actually my second year of doing drag.
08:06Oh, so fierce.
08:07Yeah.
08:08And you're on Drag Race already,
08:09how does that feel?
08:09Well, I mean, when it's correct,
08:10it's correct, isn't it?
08:13In the end,
08:14we got a sea of interchangeable queens,
08:17while those with truly unique personalities
08:19were eliminated
08:20before they even got a chance to shine.
08:22This is one season
08:23that will already have been forgotten
08:25by the time the next one premieres.
08:27I've had the most amazing experience,
08:30but once you get rid of the BS,
08:31you've got the one.
08:33Number 4.
08:34RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 1.
08:37For a show originally hosted by RuPaul,
08:40the production value of Drag Race Down Under
08:42was underwhelming.
08:43But that was the least of the problems
08:45that plagued the first season.
08:47Art Simone,
08:48initially pegged as a frontrunner,
08:50was shockingly sent home in episode 2,
08:52only to return two episodes later
08:54with no explanation.
09:02Curiously,
09:02this opportunity was not offered
09:04to the other eliminated queens,
09:06both the only people of color in the cast.
09:09Later, it came to light
09:10that Scarlett Adams,
09:11another frontrunner,
09:12had a history of blackface.
09:14But she faced no consequences.
09:16I'd rather this be a lesson
09:17in humility and accountability.
09:20And I pray that all of us
09:24can learn and grow from our mistakes.
09:27More controversial judging decisions
09:29meant fan favorites like Anita Wiglet
09:31were axed,
09:32while other less deserving queens
09:33glided through.
09:34Ultimately,
09:35Kitamine's win felt more out of convenience
09:37than merit.
09:38Kitamine,
09:39is there anything you'd like to say?
09:41You know what?
09:42Spread those f***ing wings.
09:44You can sort of, too.
09:45Let's do this!
09:46Yeah!
09:49Number 3.
09:50RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars Season 5.
09:53If you watched only the premiere
09:55of All-Stars 5,
09:56you might have walked away convinced
09:57it was going to be a stellar season.
09:59You would have been sorely mistaken.
10:01You can't just be happy for people.
10:03If you quit,
10:04someone else needs to get the job.
10:06Why would I be happy for someone
10:07that does a number
10:08that disrespects me
10:09and puts my name in it?
10:10That was after you called her
10:12a pig in a wig.
10:13The Derrick Barry vs. India Farrah feud,
10:16which could have added some real spice,
10:18was cut short the moment
10:19Derrick was eliminated.
10:20From there,
10:21the season went downhill fast.
10:23It featured some of the worst challenges
10:25in the entire franchise,
10:26and the judging in most episodes
10:28made no sense at all.
10:29But the best performance of the week
10:32was by a queen from another group.
10:39Jujubee.
10:42Condragulations,
10:42you are the top All-Star of the week.
10:44To many fans,
10:45Shea Coulee's eventual win
10:46seemed predetermined,
10:48especially with a cast
10:49packed with early outs
10:50and queens who hadn't competed in ages.
10:53Sandwiched between two genuinely
10:54entertaining All-Star seasons,
10:56this one sticks out like a sore thumb.
10:58One with no nails, even.
11:00Wow.
11:01Did not see that coming.
11:04That's what she said.
11:05Oh!
11:10We're garbage.
11:12Number 2.
11:12RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars Season 10.
11:15At the end of this three-episode bracket,
11:18the three All-Stars with the most points
11:20from this bracket
11:21will advance to the semifinals,
11:24where you will face off
11:26against the top three All-Stars
11:28from the other brackets.
11:30Going into All-Stars 10,
11:32it was clear that Drag Race needed a shake-up.
11:35To their credit,
11:36the producers had the right idea,
11:37but the execution needed a lot more polish.
11:40The first two brackets
11:41set up a promising season.
11:42Queens like Irene the Alien
11:44got their much-deserved redemption,
11:46and others like Nicole Paige Brooks
11:48were reintroduced to the fandom.
11:49It's MPB, F-A-G,
11:52Nicole, honey,
11:53oh, you know me,
11:54season 2 OG,
11:55can't say **** to me.
11:56Charisma, uniqueness,
11:58nerve, and talent.
11:59Then came the third bracket.
12:01It was immediately clear
12:02that the competition
12:03was heavily rigged
12:04to favor Ginger Minj.
12:05Even challenges where she struggled
12:07mysteriously bent in her direction.
12:09I'm Shelly,
12:10the good witch of the water.
12:12I like sexting on my shell phone,
12:15being surrounded by semen,
12:17and all types of water sports.
12:19And once all the qualifying queens
12:21finally merged,
12:22they were rushed through
12:23just two competitive episodes
12:24and an abysmal lip-sync smackdown
12:26for the crown.
12:27This was, in many ways,
12:29a chop.
12:30Ooh.
12:31You can fool some of the people
12:32some of the time,
12:33but you cannot fool
12:35the boozee!
12:36Hey!
12:37Ha ha ha!
12:38Now let the music play!
12:40Music!

12:56Number 1.
12:58RuPaul's Drag Race
12:59Global All-Stars Season 1.
13:00From all the drag race queens
13:02in the world,
13:04I've chosen each of you
13:06to represent your nation.
13:08I know that's right.
13:09Here we are, girl.
13:10In our first ever
13:12global games.
13:14The Global All-Stars Season
13:15was billed as
13:16the Olympics of Drag,
13:18meant to spotlight
13:18the different styles of drag
13:20across the world.
13:21Fans expected
13:22a showcase of cultures
13:23and a level playing field,
13:24despite the language barrier.
13:26Instead,
13:27they got blatant favoritism
13:28towards Alyssa Edwards,
13:29Kitty Scott Claus,
13:31and Queen Kong,
13:32the only Ru girls.
13:33Alyssa Edwards,
13:34Kitty Scott Claus,
13:36you are safe to slay
13:38another day.
13:39Thank you so much.
13:41You three may leave the stage.
13:43Worse still,
13:44the judges seemed uninterested
13:45in the other queens' cultures,
13:47nudging them into tired stereotypes
13:48rather than letting them
13:50express themselves freely.
13:51Can you say margarita pizza for me?
13:54Margarita pizza.
13:57I really don't get why.
14:00My RuPaul loved it and laughed,
14:02so, okay, margarita pizza.
14:05As a result,
14:06many international queens
14:07were unfairly eliminated
14:09while the Ru girls
14:10enjoyed glowing critiques
14:11they didn't always earn.
14:13Ultimately,
14:13Alyssa Edwards was named
14:15as the winner,
14:15which felt more like
14:16a legacy coronation.
14:18Alyssa,
14:19is there anything
14:20you'd like to say?
14:22Always and forever,
14:23Alyssa Edwards.
14:27There hasn't been
14:28a bigger missed opportunity
14:29in the franchise
14:30than this.
