00:00Both consumer photography and sky-gazing equipment have come a long way in recent years,
00:08letting hobbyists take incredible photos of the cosmos.
00:11Still, there is some nuance to the whole thing,
00:13and experts have weighed in on a couple of tips to make your moon photos shine.
00:17The first suggestion is to make sure you're snapping your pics at the right time.
00:21Astro photographer Andrew McCarthy told Business Insider
00:24that you should photograph the moon just after moonrise,
00:26saying the context of the objects on the horizon are what make moon photos look so incredible,
00:32saying that if it's too high overhead, you don't have that context,
00:35so it appears a little bit smaller.
00:37Experts also recommend some pretty standard photography tools,
00:40like a tripod and photo editing software.
00:42The tripod will provide the clearest image,
00:44and editing it will allow you to take a photo which often comes out much less vivid
00:48than what you saw in the sky and make it pop.
00:50So what if you're shooting with just a smartphone?
00:52Well, McCarthy says that you need to set the digital exposure time
00:55so that the lunar surface doesn't get blown out by the brightness of the moon,
00:59making sure you get all the details of Earth's brightest neighbor.
