President Donald Trump praised Chinese President Xi Jinping for what he called one of the largest soybean purchases ever made in the United States. Trump said the deal followed their meeting in South Korea, highlighting it as a major win for American farmers and evidence of improving U.S.–China trade relations. The remark came during his Cabinet meeting, where he outlined recent economic gains and ongoing global negotiations.
00:00And it isn't one trade deal or two trade deals, it's dozens of trade deals.
00:05And so talking about rural prosperity and bringing the golden age back to rural America,
00:10which has been lost for too long, and we're gonna focus on that next year,
00:13hopefully with our vice president, many of our cabinet members.
00:16But the opportunity to do that under these new trade deals is unprecedented.
00:21And so just putting farmers first or ranchers first, Mr. President, is such a huge,
00:26such a huge priority and an accomplishment of the last year.
00:30The second quick thing is lawfare, and I know you know this better than anyone in the country.
00:35When a government politicizes and weaponizes their power to go after average, everyday Americans,
00:42well, from you, the top of the heap as president, but all the way down to the ranchers in South Dakota,
00:48the Maude family, who were facing jail time over a fence line dispute that had been in their family for 130 years.
00:56We fixed that.
00:57The family, the Henry family in New Jersey, who were facing their farm being taken away for eminent domain to give to affordable housing.
01:05We fixed that.
01:06So being able to completely change the trajectory of private property rights,
01:10but especially as it has to do with our farmers and ranchers in our rural communities, changes everything for our country.
01:16And then the third thing, we have so much great things to talk about at USDA,
01:20but the third thing which became very much a part of the national conversation during the Democrat shutdown was snap reform, food stamp reform.
01:29When all of America saw what so many of us know and have been working on,
01:34but when you have so much rampant fraud in a program that 42 million Americans participate in,
01:40now a big good piece of news that I hope is written about,
01:43since you became president, about 800,000 of those 42 million have moved off of food stamps,
01:48which is hopefully the plan with better jobs, higher wages, et cetera.
01:53But still, when we found 186,000 dead people or dead people's social security numbers being used,
02:00500,000 people receiving benefits more than twice.
02:05We had a couple of people receiving benefits in six states.
02:08In February of this year, we asked for all the states, for the first time,
02:12to turn over their data to the federal government to let the USDA partner with them to root out this fraud
02:19to make sure that those who really need food stamps are getting them,
02:22but also to ensure that the American taxpayer is protected.
02:25Twenty-one states said yes.
02:27Twenty-nine states said yes.
02:28Not surprisingly, the red states.
02:30And that's where all of that data, that fraud, comes from.
02:33But 21 states, including California, New York, and Minnesota, the blue states, continue to say no.
02:41So as of next week, we have begun and will begin to stop moving federal funds into those states
02:48until they comply and they tell us and allow us to partner with them to root out this fraud
02:53and to protect the American taxpayer.
02:56As Joe Biden was working to buy an election a year ago, he increased food stamp program funding by 40 percent.
03:04So now as we continue to roll that back.
03:07So the partnership in making America healthy again is also in food stamps,
03:11but a lot of what we're going to, Bobby and I are doing together is really remarkable.
03:14But again, just gratitude and joy for this work.
03:18And so, so grateful to you.
03:20The final thing I'll say, a lot of gratitude to Secretary Marco Rubio for wearing his Aggie maroon tie
03:27as a reflection of Texas A&M beating Florida handily about a month ago.
03:33So, Marco, I want to thank you and much gratitude and joy in my heart as well. Yes.
03:38I think we also have to say something about China with one of the largest purchases ever in our country, the soybeans.
03:48Yes, sir.
03:49And so I want to thank President Xi. We had a great meeting.
03:51We were in South Korea and I went to a lot of other places too,
03:55but we met in South Korea and President Xi was great.
03:58And China gave us among the largest orders in the history of your world, agriculture.
04:04That's right.
04:05And sir, may I say, this is the remarkable result of real leadership and your real leadership.
04:12Just a couple of days ago, China announced that they were going to halt all purchases from Brazil
04:18because they had found some irregularities in some of the soybeans they're buying from Brazil.
04:23And what that means is a continued signal that this country and our farmers produce the best, highest quality soybeans, sorghum, etc. in the world.
04:32And what you've been able to do is open those markets up and, again, move toward an era where our farmers are not so reliant on government checks.
04:40Because they won't really go through
04:56long-term loans.
04:57For example, they set the great importance of theayed lizard because of the southern coast of Brazil.
