La Grande-Bretagne vit depuis 28 ans sous le joug d'une terrible épidémie qui infecte les personnes et en fait des humains enragés. Quelques groupes de non infectées subsistent. L'histoire se concentre sur un jeune garçon qui cherche un médecin pour aider sa mère mourante.
