00:00Odell Beckham, who's like, I don't know, I'm trying to think of like the biggest one-hit wonder of all time.
00:07Who is it?
00:08My Sharona.
00:09My Sharona, the Knack?
00:10The Knack.
00:11Now, Knack had a huge successful career in Europe.
00:13That's a terrible one.
00:14And by the way, what's everybody in the audience in their 60s?
00:18You knuckleheads downstairs?
00:20Baby Got Back.
00:22Baby Got Back? What are you, 90?
00:24What are you talking about? That's a new song in there.
00:25Sir Mix-Lot only had one hit?
00:27Yeah, he only had one hit.
00:28Is that all Sir Mix-Lot had?
00:29Okay, name another Sir Mix-Lot.
00:31I wish I could, but I can't.
00:34Odell Beckham's like those guys.
00:36He's not.
00:37He's a one-hit wonder.
00:38He had the great catch against the Cowboys on Monday night.
00:41We all went Goo-Goo and Gaga over it.
00:43Never did a damn thing after that.
00:44And I'm a huge Odell guy.
00:46No, no, no.
00:46Huge Odell guy.
00:47It's not true.
00:48He was having a good first half in the Super Bowl with the Rams.
00:53Towards ACL.
00:54Hasn't been the same.
00:54But he was on his way to maybe an MVP of the Super Bowl.
00:57Yeah, he was playing great.
00:57Because he was playing great, but he gets hurt a lot.
01:00Yeah, I'll tell you a quick story about Odell Beckham, who I really do like a lot.
01:03So when I was gambling, I was in the DR playing some blackjack at like 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock in the morning all by myself in a private room, right?
01:12And I come out of the private room right around the same time the nightclub and the resort we were at in the Dominican Republic was letting out.
01:22And I wasn't interested in the club or anything else.
01:25I was playing blackjack.
01:26And I come out for some air.
01:28And these two, like, meatheads from New Jersey were like, yo, Coyne!
01:32Hey, Coyne!
01:33I'm like, yeah, right.
01:34I got fans in the DR.
01:36All good.
01:36So they're at the roulette table.
01:38And they're bodyguards for Odell Beckham.
01:41Odell Beckham must have just come out of the club as well.
01:43And he's got a small stack of chips.
01:45And he's playing roulette all by himself, minding his own business.
01:48All good, right?
01:49Yeah.
01:49And he and I had met a couple times.
01:51He'd been on my radio show at the time.
01:52So I wouldn't say we're friends.
01:53We weren't.
01:54But at least he recognized me, right?
01:56Yeah, friendly.
01:56He's like, you're Coyne!
01:58Coyne!
01:58Odell!
01:59You're Coyne!
02:00Odell!
02:00I'm like, all right.
02:01It's 4 o'clock in the morning.
02:03So I noticed, though, that Odell Beckham, because he's playing alone, he has a $100 chip
02:08on black.
02:09Uh-huh.
02:10And he also has a $100 chip on red.
02:13And I look at him and I go, just out of curiosity, like, what are you doing?
02:18Right.
02:18He goes, I'm not a gambler.
02:20He goes, I'm just killing time.
02:22But this way I can't lose.
02:23And I said to him, you see the big green zero at the top?
02:29It doesn't hit often.
02:30But it can.
02:31But it can.
02:32And you lose it all.
02:32And when it does, you lose both bets.
02:35And he looked at one of the meatheads and he's like, how come y'all didn't tell me about
02:39green?
02:42I'm not sure if he came gambling or not, but I like Odell Beckham.
02:45But the thing I just saw, I think it was on the pivot with Ryan Clark and Fred Taylor.
02:49He did that a couple weeks ago and he was on the Madden cast last night.
02:52Okay, so I was just looking at it now this morning.
02:53He actually came out and said, and I don't want to paraphrase, I want to give you the
02:57exact quote if I can here.
02:59It's nearly impossible to build generational wealth on a five-year, $100 million contract.
03:07What?
03:08That's what he said.
03:09He goes, people don't understand how hard it is when you only make, now I'm paraphrasing,
03:15when you only make $100 million.
03:18He goes, the first 40 goes to the government.
03:20Okay.
03:20Now you're left with 60.
03:22Oh, no.
03:23I'm pretty sure I can make things work with a net of $60 million.
03:27Absolutely.
03:28And then he goes, well, you got to buy a house.
03:29You probably got to buy your mom or dad or your parents a house.
03:32You do.
03:33So now you're buying two houses.
03:34Everybody needs a car.
03:36And in my head, I'm like, okay, let's even say you bought a half million dollar house.
03:40Right.
03:40Yo, that's a beautiful home.
03:41Of course.
03:42Let's say you bought two of them.
03:43So that's a mil.
03:44Now you're down to 39, no, 59.
03:47Right.
03:47Let's say you bought five cars, 100K each.
03:50Now you're at 58.5.
03:52You're still fine.
03:53Like, you have enough money.
03:55And homes appreciate.
03:57So it's not like, oh, you bought a home and now the money's gone.
04:00If you buy a home and you buy it outright, the home appreciates over time.
04:03And not just that.
04:04Odell was really smart.
04:05On the Rams contract he signed, he got paid in Bitcoin.
04:09And I know Bitcoin's been up and down, up and down.
04:11But when it's up.
04:12But based on when he bought it, he's made like 10X of what the, anyway.
04:16Oh, yeah.
04:16I just thought it was like, you know, if you ever want an example of an athlete who, again,
04:20I adore, who has lost touch with reality and the common man, listen to Odell Beckham
04:26speak about money.
04:27I mean, dude, five years, 100 million, and it's impossible to create wealth off of that?
04:34Then you got a lot of dudes with their hands in your pockets, man.
04:37Yeah, although the house he probably bought were over a million dollars.
04:40Okay, but, okay.
04:40Each.
04:41Two millipop on the home.
04:43Let me make it a $5 million house for yourself and a million dollar house for your mom or
04:49dad or, you know, whomever's in your life, right?
04:51Right.
04:51Either way, that's a...
04:52You still got 43 left.
04:53And it's an appreciating asset.
04:55You know what you don't have every month?
04:57A mortgage.
04:58Because you bought the house.
04:59You don't pay, you know, you have the, you don't have the mortgage.
05:01And they're like, and when I watch the interview, I'm like, he's not BSing.
05:05He's not being a clown, like in his world and mine, and look, I made a vow a long time
05:11ago, one of the great lessons I ever got from a relative was that you should never count
05:15other people's money.
05:16Can't do it.
05:16You can never count other people's money.
05:18Mind your business.
05:18Worry about your money.
05:19Don't worry about that guy's money or what he makes, all right?
05:21It's a fool's errand, okay?
05:24But when it comes to athletes, we know what they make.
05:27Oh, yeah.
05:28It's one of those weird things where nobody knows what Tyrone makes or what I make, but we
05:33know what the people we talk about make.
05:34Yes.
05:35I think it'd be great if all salaries were public because it would change the way a lot
05:39of people talk.
