Residents worried after a 19 year old is stabbed in Chatham

Kent police were all around 3am to reports of a serious assault in Chatham.   Police, forensics, as well as search and marine units were in attendance.   We spoke to a few residence of the area who all expressed worry and concern     Maisy Walker reports.

00:01Kent Police were called at 3am this morning to reports of a serious assault in Chatham.

00:07As you can probably see from behind me, officers have cornered off Thor Old Road and the junction near Whitehorse Hill.

00:15I arrived on the scene at around 10am where police, forensics and a search and marine unit were in attendance.

00:23Residents in the area said that they were shocked.

00:26A father of three told me that he doesn't let his children play outside because of the local behaviour.

00:31I didn't hear or see anything. I just see it online first thing this morning.

00:36I found out it's literally down my road.

00:38I've got my partner and my kids and my little girl's seven.

00:41I don't let her play at the front because rough it is, it's dangerous.

00:46Another resident who lives just outside the Cordon said it was up at 7.30.

00:51She added, it's a bit scary.

00:53I've lived here all my life and we've not had something like this in ages.

00:56Usually there's trouble on the other end of the road, but not down here.

01:00Most residents did not want to go on camera.

01:02But a mother who moved to the area recently with her partner said,

01:05we've only lived here a week.

01:07I've got a seven year old little girl, 14 year old boy and a 23 year old boy.

01:12So it's really scary. It's a bit too close for my liking.

01:16Another concerned mum walking past said, I can't believe something has happened right there.

01:22It's too close.

01:23In a statement, Kent police have confirmed that officers and paramedics attended the scene

01:28where a man was treated for injuries consistent with stab wounds.

01:32A suspect in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries are underway.

01:38In a recent update, police have confirmed that a 19 year old man was killed.

01:43A spokesperson said, officers attended alongside other emergency services

01:48and a young man was located inside the premises with injuries consistent with stab wounds.

01:53The victim was treated by paramedics, but was confirmed deceased at the scene.
