00:00In other news, the first-ever commercial scheme and action plan that ramps U.S. productivity,
00:05strengthens local supply chains, and generates stable, decent paying and high school jobs
00:11was set in stone earlier in the day.
00:13Republic Act 1-1981, otherwise known as the Tatak Pinoy Strategy Law,
00:19was officially launched today, which covers the sectors of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing,
00:25agri-processing, pharmaceutical and defense production, and the provision of MSME support,
00:32as our Denise Osorio reports.
00:36The nation's first long-term industrial roadmap was formally launched today,
00:41the Tatak Pinoy Strategy Act, established under Republic Act 1-1981.
00:46It places a strong emphasis on raising productivity, reinforcing domestic value chains,
00:51and driving the creator of more stable, well-paid, and high-skilled employment for Filipino professionals.
00:58The Department of Trade and Industry confirms the strategy will position high-caliber local industries
01:03for the global market, spanning semiconductors, electronics, agri-food processing,
01:10pharmaceuticals, and defense production.
01:13The program will also extend greater support to small and medium-sized enterprises,
01:18as well as innovation-led investments.
01:20Sometimes we forget the strength of the local market.
01:24In fact, the local market is what attracts the foreign investors to come here.
01:28We are almost 120 million Filipinos, so let's not discount the local market also.
01:35Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the principal author of the act,
01:39emphasized that Tatak Pinoy is grounded in advancing the nation's capacity to produce high-value,
01:44technologically sophisticated products that deliver stronger economic returns.
01:48The core idea is economic complexity.
01:51What is that idea?
01:52It's a little wonky, but it just says that the most successful countries with the highest standard of living
01:59are those which produce the most economically complex products.
02:03What is an economically complex product?
02:06It's a TV, it's an airplane, it's an Apple phone.
02:09Because there's so many, so much know-how goes into making these products.
02:12Angara further noted the Department of Education will be instrumental in nurturing a workforce
02:18that can match the world's leading industrial economies.
02:22This includes a broader STEM talent pipeline and much closer engagement of partners within the industries
02:27to boost science and engineering capabilities.
02:53Meanwhile, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Honorary Chairperson Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr.
02:59stressed a robust statutory framework will be key in locking in local sourcing
03:04and strengthening internal supply networks,
03:07adding that the law will provide a lift to small businesses
03:10and increase the country's exporting clout over the long term.
03:13Many of the exporters, especially small of us, are bone grass in a way.
03:20They're local and a voice supplier.
03:24So they will try because the imports will be difficult.
03:29So the domestic production will be competitive, even locally.
03:34And then for export, it will be competitive.
03:36Early signs of recovery are emerging across the export sector.
03:40Latest figures indicate a 19.4% rise in exports,
03:44up from US$6.2 billion last year to just over US$7.39 billion by October 2025.
03:51By 2040, the Tatak Pinoy Council projects the strategy could generate more than 11 million jobs
03:57and inject up to P8 trillion into the economy through modernized procurement,
04:02more connected supply chains, and increased local manufacturing output.
04:06Denise Osorio for the National Television Network for a new and better Philippines.
