00:00But, Rawia, what about the concerns that the chain of command ignored the red flags that were happening?
00:07Now, this is a big part of the inquiry because, as we know, if you are in a regiment, your commands come from your higher up, and that's how it always works.
00:18Exactly. I mean, the concerns are real, and there is evidence that it was brought up to the highest commander of that unit, yet nothing was done.
00:29But before I go into the details, we have to just make it clarify or make it clear that this is just an inquiry.
00:37It's not a criminal investigation, as we were speaking before the show.
00:41So nobody is going to be convicted, and nobody is going to basically be held responsible.
00:48Now, to my brain, then, okay, what's the point of this if it's not going to stop such behavior in the future?
00:54Well, anyways, it's better than nothing, definitely, to probe into this.
00:59Maybe, you know, change some of the rules and regulations of engagement.
01:04There's, you know, tighter constraints, not just on officers and soldiers, but on the commanders as well.
01:12Anyways, that's left for the inquiry and its results.
01:15But when it comes to the concerns that commanders knew about this and did nothing, apparently the chairman of this inquiry, who is a senior judge, he said that his inquiry has heard previous concerns from British soldiers about this.
01:32And they were speaking specifically even about during those raids, as you mentioned, Michael.
01:37They were killing any fighting age male, even if it was a teenage boy.
01:43They were killing them.
01:44So basically, there was one specific officer, they even, you know, because they cannot expose their names, they named him NY 466.
01:54He was, at the time, the assistant chief of the staff for operations in the UK Special Forces headquarters.
02:01And he actually brought evidence and brought it up to his commander at some point, yet the commander did not consider a criminal action.
02:11He only ordered a review of the operational tactics.
02:15So he also then, I think he brought it up to the military police in 2015, going forward, reaching up to this inquiry.
02:25So apparently, commanders knew, or at least they had suspicion, nothing was done about it, at least from the information that we have on the evidence presented.
02:35Yet, again, as we were talking, you know, off air, this is a very sensitive issue when it comes to, you know, your country's military forces that are putting their lives on the line defending this country.
02:50You cannot just, you know, serve accusations and throw accusations at them.
