00:00Boys, boys, boys, sun shines down, so come to town, set your body free.
00:08Was the summer hit of 1987.
00:11If you remember this song, boys and girls do I have some news for you.
00:16First, collect your nice pension, you boomer.
00:20Second, coming to town, in Sabrina's words, to set your body free,
00:25might just got a little bit harder.
00:30The French government plans to end free healthcare for foreign pensioners,
00:36closing a loophole that let them join the system after just 90 days of residence.
00:42The law will hit all non-EU pensioners, including the British and the Americans.
00:47And the numbers are significant.
00:50Data shows there are around 100,000 adult Americans living in France today
00:56and a roughly similar number of Britons.
00:59And the plan is moving fast.
01:01It was accepted by the Parliament last month with a clear majority.
01:05And it is likely to be passed by the French government next year.
01:11For future retirees, that means the free ride is soon to be over.
01:17And for those who already have been taking advantage of the generous system,
01:22all you are left with is to sing Jean-Anne Regrette-Rion in a thick American accent.
01:29Because after all, it's another song from your youth, isn't it?
