00:30Welcome again to the big match.
00:44And today we have three matches that vitally affect the tops of the first three divisions.
00:48From Division I, Everton against the leaders, Queen's Park Rangers.
00:51From the second division, our main match, Chelsea, against Cup semi-finalist Southampton themselves in the running for promotion.
00:57From the third division, Grimsby Town, against those other Cup semi-finalists, Crystal Palace, more determined than ever to make this a promotion year as well.
01:04But first we go across to Stamford Bridge, where close on 30,000 fans turned up, many of them no doubt attracted by the Southampton double act of Mike Shannon on the left and former Chelsea star Peter Osgood.
01:14And for Peter Osgood, this was his first league visit to Stamford Bridge since he was sold to Southampton two years ago.
01:19Chelsea faces have changed. Relative newcomers, number nine, Steve Finiston, ten, Ken Swain, making his first home appearance to number eleven, Wade Lewington.
01:27An 18-year-old Londoner. They face Mike Shannon on this Southampton side, strengthened in defence by the return of Jim Steele, who's been down with months.
01:34If only Southampton had shown a moderate degree of form away from home, they'd be certain to his promotion.

22:04times we played well and i always thought we were likely to score but after saying that i didn't
22:08think i didn't think we were we were good overall you know because you got a bad away record haven't
22:13you we have we've you know we've played well away from home and lost you know we didn't play as well
22:18today and we got a point it's a funny game at times david hay looked after you pretty tidily i
22:22thought for most of the time yeah i thought he played very well you know i always rated him a
22:27little bit you know and uh i think that's probably his best position you know sweeper he's picking
22:31things up and uh he was never really under pressure was he you know how come you lost him in that free
22:36kick though um a little bit sharp at times myself you know what about steve's goal i thought it was
22:45a great goal you know i mean probably you know we should have had someone picking him up but
22:49uh after that i mean he stuck it away great great i think the chelsea fans were glad to see a number
22:56nine scoring a goal particularly with peter osgood coming back the old number nine yeah i think so
23:00i've uh scored one last week as well against blackburn and just uh pleased they got their chance at last
23:05yes what do you feel about chelsea's form this this season steve it's been a bit inconsistent hasn't
23:10yes it has but the past four games we won the last three and considering we lost gary lott in
23:15the first half that disrupted us a bit i thought we we did quite well i thought a point was the least
23:20we deserved yeah do you still think you're in with a whisper for promotion or is that uh
23:25is that out of the question now do you think um well i think it all depends on a lot of teams
23:32slipping up all the top teams if we keep winning we must have a very small chance i think
23:37as a young side when you come and play against a side like southampton with people like peter osgood
23:42and with mick in it as well do you find you're learning all the time as a youngster yes well
23:47it always it's a lot better than the reserves you must improve playing against better players
23:51but i think we were playing well i thought we matched our action today
23:54do you reckon yes i thought it was it was a very even type of game i always felt that we were more
24:01likely to score than what they were you know but after saying that the lads score a great goal didn't
24:05i mean i wish i'd scored it two nil i didn't think they'd score so i didn't think they uh
24:14looked all that dangerous except when it got in there it was a bit sharp then how would you fancy
24:20them against crystal palace now steve in the cup uh well i think they're a better team than crystal
24:26palace i'm gonna beat crystal palace but there again it's in london so crystal palace
24:31have a lot of support you wouldn't argue with that would you no i think he's quite right

25:29latest news of gary lock the chelsea fullback who was carried off in that game yesterday in fact
25:33he was kept in hospital overnight with severe concussion bruising above the eye he hurt his
25:38shoulder into the bargain but the hospitals say that they're hopeful that he might be out tomorrow
