If Chelsea v Arsenal isn't a derby, then what is it?
Transcript
00:00Chelsea versus Arsenal is not a derby. It's a rivalry. I'm starting a petition.
00:06Ban the phrase London derby. There is no such thing. North London derby, yes. Spot on. South
00:12London derby, yes. But come on, Chelsea versus Arsenal, Palace versus West Ham, these are not
00:17London derbies. I've heard Palace versus Brentford be described as a London derby. Come off it.
00:24Now, that's not to say that Chelsea and Arsenal don't hate each other. They do,
00:28as do West Ham and Spurs, West Ham and Millwall, and Spurs and Chelsea. I accept that. But derby
00:33is all about proximity. These teams are not battling for ownership over their territory.
00:38They absolutely do contain the same hatred as a local derby, in some cases anyway, but they are
00:43not derbies. This is not the same as the Merseyside or Steel City or even South Coast derby. South Coast
00:50derby is very hatred, by the way. I don't know why I said even. In those, it's sacrilegious to cross
00:54the border. Those who have done it are remembered and hated. Chelsea and Arsenal share players like
00:59their small plate at an overpriced Hackney restaurant. I will die on this hill. London
01:04derbies do not exist. A compass direction must be the first word for it to be valid in the capital.
01:10Rant over.
