00:00Guy Fieri injured as quad muscle explodes.
00:04Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is sidelined this Thanksgiving after he was injured filming one of his shows.
00:10The chef had emergency surgery after he missed a set of steps and tore his quad muscle in half.
00:15He is now only mobile with the help of a wheelchair and crutches.
00:19Fieri was filming his Food Network show Flavortown Food Fight when he slipped on the steps, injuring his right leg.
00:25He said the tear in his quad was so severe his doctor had never seen one like it in 20 years.
00:31Fieri underwent surgery to prevent muscle loss, halting production.
00:35So, right in the middle of filming that, and we've got everybody in town and all the chefs there and 125 people on set.
00:43And everybody's ready to go.
00:45And I'm in surgery.
00:46So, we figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques.
00:50But it's been a run, and now I'm up here at the ranch, where it's always about hiking and outdoors.
00:56And, you know, beautiful, Fieri continued.
00:59He also explained how extensive the injury was.
01:02You normally tear that muscle at your tendon, or the tendon tears off the bone.
01:07But this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle.
01:10And it exploded, Fieri said.
01:12Fieri will be off his feet for about eight weeks, changing his Thanksgiving plans as his sons and nephew plan to cook now.
01:18Fieri said his injury will affect things, since he's on crutches and in a wheelchair, and can't walk for eight weeks.
01:25But his son Ryder texted, saying it was his time to shine, after all the cooking training he'd received.
01:32Fieri said he was glad Ryder volunteered, and added that his three sons, Hunter, Ryder, and Jules, can all cook.
01:39He'll be quarterbacking from his wheelchair as they prepare food for about 40 people, turning the situation into an adventure.
