00:00A Massachusetts woman is suing to get a piece of the action on a medical malpractice ruling in the
00:05death of her father. Catch is, she never knew he existed. I'll explain. A few years back, Carmen
00:13Thomas took a 23andMe DNA test and found out she had two biological sisters out there, Callie and
00:19Abigail Brown. Now, Thomas says their meeting was a joyous occasion, but the Browns, eh, a different
00:27story. The sisters say they did it as an act of kindness and were, quote, upset and hesitant about
00:33the whole thing. They said after meeting Thomas that she became, quote, assertive and possessive
00:40of her new family and that she demanded that her bio sisters pay for things like gas, food and
00:46alcohol for her. Their biological link here was their father, who sadly died back in 2018 from an
00:52undiagnosed aortic aneurysm. The Browns and their mother sued the hospital for malpractice and they
00:58won a $28.8 million settlement. And as we all know, timing is everything. That judgment was handed down
01:06a month after Thomas reached out to her newly discovered family. Once she found out about
01:12the settlement, she sued her half sisters to get her cut. Because of course, you know the old saying,
01:17the family that shares multimillion dollar settlements from the death of a father with a
01:22heretofore unknown blood relative who never met the man stays together. Or is that not how that saying
01:28goes? Anyway, the Browns lawyer said that the case quote was resolved favorably for his clients,
01:35but he didn't offer any further details. His clients cut off communication with their biological sister
01:40back in April. They probably didn't spend Thanksgiving together.
