Instead, both new films hope to serve as counterprogramming over Mother's Day weekend; 'Avengers' finally lands in China.
Transcript
00:00Melissa McCarthy gets a makeover from newly divorced mom to cool college co-ed in her latest film,
00:13Life of the Party, in theaters this weekend. But it looks like the comedy won't be a match
00:18for superhero mega mashup Avengers Infinity War. The Disney and Marvel movie will have no trouble
00:23staying number one in its third weekend at the box office. The only question is, by how much?
00:28Domestically, the film could pull in another $60 million over Mother's Day weekend.
00:33And overseas, Infinity War debuts Friday in China, its final major market, where it's expected to do big business.

00:41Thanos.
00:45As for Life of the Party, the new line film is one of two new offerings hoping to serve as
00:49counter-programming in North America. The comedy marks the third collaboration between McCarthy
00:54and her real-life husband Ben Falcone, who directed the film from a script they co-wrote about a
00:59divorcee who returns to college, only to find herself enrolled in classes with her daughter.
01:04Molly Gordon, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen and Matt Walsh co-star.
01:10Life of the Party hopes to open in the same range as McCarthy's film, Tammy, which was also directed by Falcone.
01:16That movie debuted to $21.6 million in summer 2014.
01:20The other new movie hitting theaters this weekend is Universal's Breaking In.
01:24Gabrielle Union stars as a woman who will stop at nothing to rescue her two children,
01:28who are being held hostage in a house designed with impenetrable security.
01:32The film is tracking to open in the mid-teens, but there's plenty of room for upside.
01:36Reviews haven't posted yet for either Breaking In or Life of the Party.
01:47A number of films also debut at the specialty box office this weekend, including The Seagull,
01:52Revenge and Beast. For the latest box office news, head to THR.com and let me know what you're
