Question of the day. Let's get right to it. What makes you believe that this team just might do it?
00:04
And if you're not there, fair enough, let us know. Why are you still skeptical?
00:09
Again, still can't get it. 713-572-4610. That is the number to text.
00:14
After last game, when they beat the Bills and everybody's fawning over this Texas team,
00:19
the question that I wanted to ask to start the show was, do you believe?
00:24
And now, another step.
00:25
Do you? What would make you believe?
00:28
And what would make you believe? So, Lopez, for you, what makes you believe that this team just might do it?
00:34
The obvious answer, we're all going to say. This defense. Championship-level defense.
00:38
Let's maybe, I mean, you can say it, but let's maybe go beyond that.
00:42
Because we know the defense is a championship defense.
00:45
Correct.
00:45
Period. No one can argue that, right? No one.
00:49
You got yourself a running back. You got yourself a running back.
00:53
But, Woody Marks is, and you know how you know that Woody Marks is the guy?
00:58
They put him back out there on one leg rather than really relying on Nick Chubb.
01:02
That's a fantastic point.
01:03
They put him out on one leg.
01:05
And this is a team that usually operates with a level of caution.
01:08
Yeah.
01:09
With injuries and things of that nature.
01:11
Although, to be fair, they have let dudes thug it out if they so choose.
01:15
Shout out to a running back?
01:16
Dalton Schultz.
01:17
Dalton Schultz has been clutching his clavicle and his knee for the past five weeks.
01:22
And then out there catching football.
01:23
They kind of needed him, though, man.
01:25
What other tight end he was going to go to?
01:27
Right.
01:28
But, I mean, they let Woody Marks continue to be out there.
01:32
Even though they've kind of tempered it with, in passing situations,
01:36
let's put in a little bit of Dare Gumbawale here.
01:38
And they did use a little chubb.
01:41
Who hasn't?
01:41
You did that on purpose.
01:42
So, I thought we were being serious.
01:47
I thought we were doing a lot of Reaction Monday stuff.
01:50
Can I give a confession?
01:51
That was a total accident.
01:53
Going to get the Woody joke out, too.
01:55
No, that was a total accident.
01:57
Somebody said, I'd rather have a Woody than a chubb.
01:59
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:00
I see you.
02:01
I thought we left that in training camp.
02:04
Yeah, I thought we got that out of our system.
02:06
I did.
02:06
Apparently not.
02:07
Everybody did.
02:08
But, as the words came out of my mouth, I went, okay, that didn't land the way I thought it would.
02:13
They did utilize Nick Chubb a bit, you know, to be fair.
02:17
Let me put it that way.
02:18
They did.
02:18
You are correct.
02:20
I believe that he had nine.
02:21
Woody Marks is the guy.
02:22
He had nine carries compared to Woody Marks' 19.
02:24
And I probably need to just check the snap at all.
02:26
Yeah.
02:27
Because Woody Marks was out there a good amount of the time, which, hey, they have not deviated.
02:32
Once they got to that place, we were wondering if they would do the step back that they had done at some times during the season.
02:36
No, they are leaning all the way in.
02:38
Injuries be damned.
02:40
And they were rewarded for that because Woody Marks has demonstrated that he can run between the tackles with power.
02:45
He can run outside the tackles with some finesse, good patience, picks up some pretty good blood.
02:49
He met some dudes.
02:50
He met Zyre Franklin in the hole a couple of times where I was like, ooh, okay, dog.
02:55
I see you there.
02:56
He's been fantastic in what he's doing.
02:58
So what makes you believe that this team just may do it?
03:01
Or are you skeptical?
03:02
I'm starting to believe, man.
03:04
In some of this, I got to bring it to our favorite offense coordinator, Nick Haley.
03:09
I think that there's still very much room for improvement.
03:14
The way that the end of the first half ends, I don't think it's entirely on him because I think you got to bring that to D'Amico Ryans
03:21
and ask what the overall vision is, which, of course, is the head coach's domain.
03:26
Offense coordinator probably needs to be better at getting in plays in some of those instances.
03:29
But the play designs of some of these, there were some really good play designs.
03:33
Nico Collins running into the end zone, that is a good play design.
03:36
There's some good pin and pull.
03:37
Not just design.
03:38
It was a good feel for him.
03:40
Yes.
03:40
It was a perfect, like, this is what we've wanted to see in the red zone, right?
03:43
There's been some good pin and pull type stuff.
03:46
Even in instances in the red zone, there was a couple of plays in which, like, one of them early on where CJ's trying to go for,
03:52
I don't know if it was Dalton Schultz or Nico Collins, and the reason why I don't know is because both of them were in the same area.
03:57
I don't know if that was a design thing or if that was getting hung up on the route.
04:01
And even then, I still think that CJ had an opportunity to find an open route underneath to know.
04:05
I think that I'm seeing more and more opportunities for this offense to be effective enough.
04:11
And as you know, tied with the fact that this defense is all world, if this offense can be effective enough,
04:17
both running the football enough and passing the football well enough in situations, yeah, man,
04:23
that gives me enough to believe that they could do something special,
04:26
especially now that they have negated the 0-3 standing that they had started on.
04:31
Yes, my obvious answer for believe is the defense.
04:35
Yes, but I'm a little – I mean, I know Reggie just laid out a good argument about the offense and all that stuff.
04:42
I'm still a little skeptical about the offense, especially when it comes to, like,
04:48
if they make the playoffs and all that stuff, man, because I know that old cliche defense win championships,
04:55
and I think that's somewhat true, but I still feel like you got to have a better offense
05:01
than what the Texans kind of been doing lately, man.
05:04
Unless they – I feel like maybe they could improve and maybe be more consistent,
05:09
but I'm still a little skeptical about the offense.
05:12
I'm going to be honest.
05:13
When I thought about this question, I tried to talk myself out of believing that they could do it
05:19
because, you know, it's just this – we know Houston football, Houston professional football,
05:24
has broken our hearts before.
05:26
Or I can't talk myself out of believing that they can do this.
05:31
And by do this, I mean certainly make the playoffs and then make some noise,
05:34
and we'll see about what happens after that.
05:35
Oh, you were talking full Super Bowl.
05:37
No, I'm saying –
05:38
That was actually going to be my question.
05:40
Like, what is – can they do it mean?
05:42
They can do something.
05:42
No, can they make the playoffs?
05:44
Yes.
05:45
Yes, and I think they can make a lot of noise in the postseason.
05:47
Is that AFC championship game?
05:49
I think they have it in them.
05:50
I think that's a fair do it.
05:51
I think they have it in them.
05:52
And I keep trying to talk myself out of it, but I can't because of –
05:56
and one of the reasons is Woody Marks.
05:58
Another is, dude, they started the same offensive line two weeks in a row
06:03
for the first time ever, ever this season.
06:06
And it's good.
06:06
And it looked good.
06:08
It looked – no, it looked more – it looked good enough.
06:10
Yeah, it's as good as I think you're getting with what you have, right?
06:14
I think there's still going to be some concerns.
06:16
But ultimately, I mean, they protected fairly well.
06:20
I think there was an instance where –
06:22
how many sacks were there actually in this game?
06:24
I need to make sure that I see this.
06:25
There were two sacks for CJ.
06:27
At least one of them – I know CJ created it on his own.
06:30
At least one of them.
06:31
And the other one was a loss by Ed Ingram.
06:33
So, yeah, I think that there's folks that are, like,
06:36
still looking at funeral arrangements for the Chiefs.
06:38
I see the 2-1-4.
06:39
Someone else is, like, the idea of the Chiefs being in the Super Bowl.
06:42
I think one of the things that's beautiful about this is you have an opportunity
06:44
to exercise those demons.
06:46
But even if you don't, you're good.
06:48
Like, there's a path –
06:49
It's been a wacky NFL season to walk your way into the playoffs
06:52
even without getting that done against the Chiefs.
06:56
Somebody said they think CJ should get all the snaps between the 20s
06:59
and Davis get the red zone.
07:01
I guess you can feel comfortable that you feel like you can have that take.
07:05
Get Wildcat.
07:06
Put Davis in there.
07:07
Glad to see you can remember how to catch.
07:10
Hey, man, that's another reason why they have a short-down opportunity
07:14
or a thing that they can throw out there that is relatively useful.
07:18
We'll talk more about that as we go.
07:19
But let us know.
07:20
What are the things that give you confidence in this team
07:22
that they might do it and make a good run in the playoffs
07:23
or why you're still skeptical?
07:25
That's the question of the day.
