00:00The first time I listened to Franz Franz Her年, it was through Guitar Hero.
00:04What song was it?
00:05Oh yeah.
00:06How did you score?
00:07Oh, bad.
00:08Really bad.
00:08Actually, yeah, that's a question.
00:10Have you ever played your songs on Guitar Hero?
00:12Yeah, my brother-in-law had it when Take Me Out was on it and he was better at it than
00:17I was.
00:17Because the thing is, the thing is, what the song does is when you're playing along,
00:21so you're tapping in rhythm to the music, but it'll go from the vocal melody, and then
00:25you're going to the riff, and then you'd normally be playing the bass line, and then
00:28You were playing some other kind of thing.
00:29And it just didn't make sense to my brain.
00:31I was like, well, I play the bass.
00:34So you're jumping around.
00:35It's very confusing.
00:36I didn't play guitar here.
00:37There was another one where you would,
00:39I think it was called Sing Star or something like that,
00:41where you would sing along with it.
00:43And Nick, the old guitarist, and I once did it at a karaoke place.
00:48It was Do You Want To that we did.
00:50And we both scored really, really badly.
00:54And it's because it's all about getting the vocal precise
00:57and the phrasing.
00:58However, when you're the artist,
01:00you change the phrasing all the time
01:02to just do whatever mood you're in
01:04because you're the boss and you can do whatever you want.
01:07But the computer game doesn't see it that way.
01:09It sees you as being wrong.
01:10And it's actually the computer that's wrong.
01:13Like so much in life.
01:15Like so much in life, yeah.
01:17Computers aren't always right.
01:19Yeah, it isn't always right.
01:20Also, I've always been interested in your composition
01:23about the silence.
01:25You have like some sort of pauses.
01:28Oh, yeah.
01:28And then you'll destroy everything.
01:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:30Which silence do you like the most?
01:32Oh, which silence?
01:33Which pause?
01:35I've got a favorite pause.
01:36But it's for a song called Turn It On.
01:38We haven't played it live for years,
01:40but it's on the third album.
01:41Yeah, it is.
01:42And it has this stop in it
01:43that we see my favorite bit of the live set
01:46because we got to the point where it was just so precise.
01:49And I just loved it.
01:50It really made my brain feel good.
01:52But yeah, that's my favorite.
01:53Yeah.
01:54Mine is in the song Know You Girls.
01:58So in the first verse, I sing,
02:00Yes, I love.
02:01I mean, I'd love to get to know you.
02:03And then the second verse,
02:05before the second chorus,
02:06the words are different.
02:07I sing,
02:08Yes, I love.
02:09I mean, I need to love.
02:11And what I usually do is I usually pause.
02:12I kind of go,
02:13Yes, I love.
02:14I mean, I...
02:17And I just hold it.
02:18And sometimes I like to hold it for too long
02:22until it feels really, really awkward.
02:24And then start the song again.
02:26But it's very, very satisfying
02:27because the rest of the band are so sharp.
02:31And this is, I love it.
02:32Like, and when it comes in again,
02:34it's just, bang, like properly sharp.
02:36And they're like really, really beautiful.
02:38And it's just like this explosion of satisfaction
02:41that I hear everybody coming together.
02:43Thank you so much.
02:44That was a fun interview.
02:45Thank you.
02:45Oh, thank you.
02:46I love the two glasses look, by the way.
02:48That's really cool.
02:49I forgot to put them on
02:50because I was like dressed like this.
02:52Oh, my God.
02:54I love it.
