WOMAN SHARES INCREDIBLE PROSTHESIS MECHANISM
With VID
By Devanshu Yadav
A woman shared an eye-opening look at how her prosthetic leg attaches to her body.
Gini Thomas from Alabama, USA, filmed herself explaining her osseointegration prosthesis.
A bone-anchored system that connects directly to the bone instead of using a traditional socket.
She shows how the device clicks into place and talks viewers through the process making something complex easy to understand.
One user commented : ‘So cool. Happy someone finally perfected something new to prevent infection.’
A second added : ‘Do all the lights serve any function?’

00:00I've talked a little bit about this from time to time, but my prosthesis is held on with what some people call osseointegration.
00:09Some people refer to it as a bone-anchored prosthesis, a bone-anchored limb, an osseo-anchored limb or prosthesis.
00:17Here's what that really means.
00:18I have the Integrum Oprah Implant System, which means this is anchored in my femur and the skin is attached to the end of my femur.
00:28We call that a bonded matrix.
00:31That just means that I have a really tight aperture so it stays pretty clean.
00:37I don't have to use a socket.
00:40I don't have to put on a liner or socks or anything else on the limb itself, so there's a lot less skin irritation.
00:48And it's really easy to put on and take off, slide it in the connector, tighten it up, and it's connected.
00:57And ready to go.
