00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Five Premier League games on the way, and no matter what the results, it's always a super Sunday when Alan Shearer and Micah Richards are here.
00:00:49I'm not going to be that nice all night.
00:00:51We're going to begin with West Ham, Liverpool, where before the game, tributes were paid to Hammers legend Billy Bonds, who's died at the age of 79.
00:01:00Bonds played 799 times for West Ham and was captain for the FA Cup wins in 1975 and 1980.
00:01:08He spent 21 years as a player at Upton Park between 1967 and 1988, and he managed the club for four years in the early 90s.
00:01:17West Ham said it was with deep sadness and the heaviest of hearts that their legendary player, coach and manager had passed away peacefully on Sunday morning.
00:01:27Everyone at Match of the Day extends their condolences to Billy's family and friends.
00:01:37And so, to the London Stadium, where your commentator is Steve Wilson.
00:01:41Three changes and a change of formation to a back four for West Ham, as Mavropanos, Magasa and Lucas Paqueta, who's back from suspension, replace Kilman, Igor Julio and Luis Guillem.
00:01:55Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is dropped to their bench, as he was on this ground 18 months ago, when he had a row with Jurgen Klopp and then told the press,
00:02:02If I speak, if I speak, there will be fire. Joe Gomez starts his first league game of the season.
00:02:07Alisson, Isak and Wirtz all return.
00:02:15It is a very sad day.
00:02:18Billy Bonds was the epitome of a club legend.
00:02:21Captain, captain for a decade, a player, a manager and a man, to be revered and remembered.
00:02:27It is a very sad day.
00:02:57Liverpool won 5-0 here last season.
00:03:14Wan-Bissaka keeping it from Isak.
00:03:20A swing and a miss from Juve.
00:03:23Here's Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo leaves it and Isak skies it.
00:03:28Well, this is an opportunity.
00:03:31It's a nice little dummy by Cody Gakpo and Isak was nowhere near the target.
00:03:36Not an easy decision to make.
00:03:39Reaving out big names is sometimes part of a manager's job.
00:03:44And he has made that call today.
00:03:46Brought by Mavra Panos, Isak wide to Joe Gomez.
00:03:54Gomez ball in, Cody Gakpo might get underneath this.
00:03:57It's missed it.
00:03:58It's a good save by Areola.
00:04:00Isak denied.
00:04:04Isak's Premier League goal drought for Liverpool nearly came to an end.
00:04:07Areola's hands were up to parry before the shot had even come.
00:04:17Van Dijk looking for Gakpo.
00:04:20Wan-Bissaka has missed it.
00:04:22Florian Wirtz for Liverpool and Areola saves.
00:04:24Well, in a game which has not been littered with good opportunities.
00:04:31Liverpool have had the best of them.
00:04:33Areola's early save from Isak and another here from Florian Wirtz.
00:04:37Half a block by McAllister, but Paqueta comes away with it and tries something quite spectacular.
00:04:53Had that gone in, it would have been utterly out of context with the rest of the game.
00:04:58You'd be hard-pressed to say there'd been a sharp upturn in quality since half-time.
00:05:02Gomez plays a decent-looking ball into Florian Wirtz here.
00:05:07Wirtz plays it first time.
00:05:09Very important to Mavropanos.
00:05:11Gakpo and Isak arriving.
00:05:14Good ball by Gomez.
00:05:15Good run by Wirtz.
00:05:17Played onside by Toribo, who's grateful to Mavropanos.
00:05:21It's a Liverpool throw-in.
00:05:24Joe Gomez is going to take.
00:05:32Florian Wirtz.
00:05:36Onside, I think.
00:05:38And in minutes!
00:05:40Isak scores for Liverpool.
00:05:43For the first time in the Premier League.
00:05:48Liverpool are in front.
00:05:50Mavropanos clearing header, went straight back to Gomez.
00:05:57Florian Wirtz found the angle for the little pass into Gakpo, who's clearly onside.
00:06:03And that's a very calm finish from Alexander Isak.
00:06:07It's been such a struggle for the Swede.
00:06:10That will be a huge weight off his shoulders.
00:06:13West Ham nil, Liverpool one.
00:06:16Can I have a bet?
00:06:17Jones in a good position.
00:06:21Well fouled by Ryan Gravenberg.
00:06:23Eketike, Jones, Eketike.
00:06:28Decent effort.
00:06:31Maybe a stride wide of the left hand upright from the Frenchman.
00:06:42Fouled by Fulcrook on Sobosai.
00:06:44And a yellow card for Descent.
00:06:51Lucas Paquetard receiving that.
00:06:54He's only just come back from a one-match ban.
00:06:57West Ham's number 10.
00:06:58He needs to be a bit careful here.
00:07:14Alisson is trying to calm down his Brazilian teammate.
00:07:17Who's just been shown the yellow card for Descent.
00:07:29Well, he's just been booked.
00:07:32And I'm afraid they've tried and failed to calm him down.
00:07:35And Paquetard gets one of the more idiotic red cards of the season.
00:07:42That's crazy.
00:07:43That really is crazy.
00:07:44There are three minutes to go.
00:07:53Todibo.
00:07:56Dioof.
00:07:56Louis Guillaume.
00:08:05Fulcrook couldn't get it through a tiny gap.
00:08:07Now he might.
00:08:08Fulcrook and Bowen.
00:08:11Almost the first really inviting sight of Liverpool's goal in this game.
00:08:16He hit it beautifully.
00:08:17It didn't quite curl enough.
00:08:19Cody Gakpo.
00:08:29Gakpo again.
00:08:29A little deflection on this.
00:08:30It might come to stop or slide.
00:08:33Areola came chasing.
00:08:35Joe Gomez.
00:08:36And a chance for 2-0.
00:08:38And that's done it.
00:08:40Cody Gakpo wins the game for Liverpool.
00:08:47Smartly taken by Gakpo.
00:08:49And what a relief for Liverpool.
00:08:56No last-minute nerves now.
00:09:01Joe Gomez.
00:09:03Completely missed by Mavropanos.
00:09:06And dispatched happily by Gakpo.
00:09:10Liverpool with the win.
00:09:12And their desperate run is coming to an end.
00:09:16West Ham 0.
00:09:18Liverpool 2.
00:09:19Not giving away anything to the other team as a gift.
00:09:23That is something we definitely not want to do today.
00:09:25Because we've done that far too many times already this season.
00:09:29I saw a lot of things the same today.
00:09:30I saw us creating chances which we didn't score.
00:09:33The biggest difference was that we didn't concede after five minutes.
00:09:36Because if you concede after five minutes you normally play much more open than when it's 0-0 or you're 1-0 up.
00:09:41You would expect Liverpool to be quite nervous at 1-0 given that they've not been in a good place recently.
00:09:47And Lucas Paqueta, I can only describe it, gets himself sent off.
00:09:52Look, I'm not going to go much further, I understand your question, but allow me to speak with Lucas first and try to understand why.
00:09:59I think even with one man less, the boys give it a fight, let me just say, the spirit, the desire was there in a day that was very, very sad for us as a club.
00:10:10Obviously, if you leave Mo Salah out for a Liverpool starting line-up, it's going to be talked about.
00:10:15What was your thinking there?
00:10:16No, we play indeed a lot of games.
00:10:19In ten days we play four.
00:10:21I think there's a lot of talk about Liverpool every time I leave someone out.
00:10:24If it's Alexander Rizak or Ike Tike or Florian Wiertz.
00:10:28And now it's with Mo Salah.
00:10:29And these players deserve this because they are so, so, so quality players.
00:10:34And Mo has been so important for the club and will be very important for us as a club.
00:10:39Wednesday we play again, Saturday we play again, Tuesday we play again.
00:10:42So, let's see what a team selection is on Wednesday.
00:10:46You'd scored in the League Cup this season, but it's your first Premier League goal for Liverpool.
00:10:50Yeah, of course.
00:10:51I've been waiting for it and chasing it.
00:10:54And, you know, sometimes it takes longer than you expect.
00:10:57But, yeah, happy to be able to score a goal and help on the way to the win today.
00:11:04Well, the reaction from Alex Isak, probably similar to the reaction across Liverpool,
00:11:08which was that of relief rather than, you know, unmitigated joy in terms of getting that result.
00:11:14You watched him at Newcastle at his very best.
00:11:17Where is he on that journey at Liverpool?
00:11:20Well, it's about getting the very best from him, which, at times, he's going to need help from his teammates.
00:11:26He has to do better, obviously.
00:11:28We've not seen as much as we thought.
00:11:30But today, I think we've seen it's a very much working progress.
00:11:33Some really positive signs, but also signs where it can definitely improve, where these teammates understand of what he needs to make his game better.
00:11:42And you have to be able to do that.
00:11:44I think this is a really good ball from Virts.
00:11:46And I think he's certainly not up to speed to what we've seen early on in the game.
00:11:52You'd expect him to make that run and to get on the end of it.
00:11:56As I said, there were some positives.
00:11:58He does really well there in getting the ball out.
00:12:00The ball then comes in, and he's in the right place.
00:12:02It's a decent opportunity, but you have to say that's a good save from the goalkeeper.
00:12:07This next one, he has every right to moan, shout, scream.
00:12:12That has to come in first time.
00:12:14There's no need to take a touch there.
00:12:15It's a great ball to whip in.
00:12:18All right, it doesn't come in first time.
00:12:19It has to then come in a second time with the left foot.
00:12:22Otherwise, you're doing the forward no good whatsoever.
00:12:25It's a really good opportunity to get the ball in for a forward who needs to be fed.
00:12:30Now, O'Keyley work it really well, again, in terms of being patient.
00:12:35And again, forget taking the touch.
00:12:37That passes on first time.
00:12:39And then he takes the touch, which allows then West Ham that split second to get the defender into place.
00:12:45And it turns out to be not a problem for West Ham in the end.
00:12:49Same thing again.
00:12:49I think that's a good run.
00:12:50And if he doesn't get it the first time, then he has to get it the second time.
00:12:54Again, that ball has to come in.
00:12:57And then the same thing again.
00:12:59You can see him having a moan up and absolutely right.
00:13:01And this is what happens.
00:13:03This is how deadly he can be.
00:13:04If you get the balls in at the right time, at the right pace, he works the space really well.
00:13:09Doesn't do a lot to create it.
00:13:11Sometimes the standing still is the best part.
00:13:13But that is a fantastic finish.
00:13:16That is what he is all about.
00:13:18But, as I said, he needs sometimes his teammates to help him out.
00:13:22And today, with that ball, yes.
00:13:24But there are so many times where the ball can come in earlier for him and go in behind.
00:13:28One of the teammates who wasn't available to help him on the pitch today was Mohamed Salah, who spent the game on the bench.
00:13:34Arnaud Slott said it's because they've got four games in ten days.
00:13:37They've got 14, 15 outfield players.
00:13:39There's going to be some rotation.
00:13:41That's what he has to say.
00:13:42And he said there's a fuss no matter who he leaves out.
00:13:45But it's Mohamed Salah, so there's going to be more noise.
00:13:48There's always going to be a big talking point with him being left out.
00:13:51But in terms of form, then he can't really complain.
00:13:54I think Eketike can complain in terms of being form and him not playing.
00:14:00But when it's a big decision from the manager, as it's always going to be with the likes of Mohamed Salah,
00:14:04they have to go out and they have to perform and they have to win the game.
00:14:07And they've done that today.
00:14:09Lucas Pacitar sent off for persistently arguing with the referee.
00:14:12In commentary, it was called ridiculous behaviour.
00:14:16Pacitar responded to this on X and said,
00:14:18it's ridiculous to have your life and career effective for two years
00:14:21without any psychological support from the Federation.
00:14:24Perhaps this ridiculous behaviour is just a reflection of everything I've had to endure.
00:14:28And it seems have to continue enduring.
00:14:30I'm sorry if I'm not perfect.
00:14:32Now, this is in response to the two-year investigation,
00:14:35at the end of which all charges he was cleared of in July of spot-fixing charges.
00:14:40And he clearly feels that he's not had the support to help him to get over what's clearly been a very difficult situation.
00:14:48But there is also, Micah, a responsibility to stay within the laws of the game.
00:14:53Yeah, I mean, to be booked twice for dissent, what you've said there, Kel,
00:14:57he's totally right, and he deserves more support, in his opinion.
00:15:02But one thing you can't do is let your teammates down for dissent.
00:15:06Because we know how good of a player he is.
00:15:08We know how much we've talked him up in the past.
00:15:11He can really make the difference for this team to get sent off for this.
00:15:16Yeah, he's frustrating.
00:15:17He can tell.
00:15:18You know, have that over your head for so long
00:15:21and potentially could have left West Ham in that time.
00:15:24You can see he's frustrated.
00:15:26But when you, you know, put on the shirt and you're there with your teammates,
00:15:30you've got to give everything.
00:15:31And I think that was just a silly decision.
00:15:33And he's just come back from a ban as well for five yellow cards, hasn't he?
00:15:36Correct. Five yellows, yeah.
00:15:37Correct.
00:15:38Madness.
00:15:38Really lovely tributes to Billy Bonds,
00:15:41who had a very, very long career at West Ham.
00:15:44Played right into his 40s.
00:15:46In fact, he played so long that you actually played against him.
00:15:49I did.
00:15:50I played against him way back in 1988,
00:15:52which was for his very, very last game for West Ham.
00:15:55I made my debut early April,
00:15:58then played against West Ham and Billy back in the back end of April.
00:16:02So, I mean, what a guy.
00:16:05What a character.
00:16:06What a career.
00:16:07Yeah, 799 games.
00:16:09Just unbelievable.
00:16:10Two FA Cup lifts in there as well.
00:16:12So, it's incredible, yeah.
00:16:13Condolas has gone to his family.
00:16:14Yeah, there have been so many incredible stories told about him at West Ham today.
00:16:19They do that kind of occasion so well.
00:16:21To Stamford Bridge next,
00:16:23where Chelsea had the chance to close the gap on leaders Arsenal.
00:16:27Your commentator, Jonathan Pearce.
00:16:31The first time these sides enter the weekend
00:16:33as the Premier League's top two since April 2015,
00:16:36when a 0-0 draw ended Arsenal's tackle dream and Chelsea romped home.
00:16:41Both have had very good weeks.
00:16:42Chelsea unbeaten in six,
00:16:44make one change from the Champions League Super Show against Barcelona.
00:16:47Charles Pedro replaces Garnaccio, who's among the subs.
00:16:50As is Cole Palmer, who hasn't played since September.
00:16:52And they haven't beaten Arsenal here since 2018.
00:16:56The Gunners, unbeaten in 16,
00:16:58make three changes,
00:16:59two in fours from their excellent triumph over Bayern,
00:17:01with Trossard injured that night,
00:17:03and Saliba picking up a knock in training.
00:17:05So here, Capier gets only his second league start
00:17:07in a new partnership with Mosquera.
00:17:09And Martinelli, a midweek scorer from the bench,
00:17:11gets his third league start this season.
00:17:13and Carabiori swaps in for Luis Gelli.
00:17:15Cabal Jesus is back on the bench after ten months out,
00:17:18and Jokre is alongside him.
00:17:25Mosquera making a run into the near-post area.
00:17:29It's one in the air well.
00:17:31Fulcana got up well.
00:17:33Space here for Saka to drill a shot.
00:17:34And that's going to be a yellow card as well, I would think.
00:17:46Mosquera with the foul.
00:17:49Too much space here for Saka from the Chelsea point of view.
00:17:54They're allowed to get the shot away.
00:17:57Calafiore dropped his shoulder.
00:17:59It's a good run.
00:17:59Saka tries to hold it up against Kukurea.
00:18:02Good defending.
00:18:03Nothing wrong with the defending there.
00:18:05Enzo as Chelsea now try to break forward.
00:18:07And Hicapier was caught in two minds.
00:18:10Malagusto, Estevão,
00:18:12come in a game in a blink of an eye.
00:18:14Plays it off for Enzo.
00:18:17Chelsea's best move of the game.
00:18:18Straight at the keeper.
00:18:20Enzo Fernandes with the shot.
00:18:24Isaka.
00:18:25Marino caught by Caicedo.
00:18:35Both came off with injury problems.
00:18:39Arsenal look for Calafiore.
00:18:40Comes back out to Martinelli.
00:18:43Caicedo is in a lot of pain.
00:18:45A lot of pain.
00:18:46I think Caicedo is late and high with the challenge.
00:18:52And they're checking this for serious foul play.
00:18:56Oh, that's a bad challenge.
00:18:58It's mistimed.
00:18:59It's over the top.
00:19:00It's late.
00:19:02And he could be in real trouble here.
00:19:03I don't think it was intentional.
00:19:06But he's had a look at it and will explain.
00:19:07And this is going to be red, I think.
00:19:11After review.
00:19:13Chelsea 25.
00:19:15Makes a challenge.
00:19:17With excessive force.
00:19:19And engages in the opponent.
00:19:22Therefore, my final decision is red card.
00:19:25He's sent off.
00:19:27And that could change the whole game.
00:19:29And there are one or two players
00:19:30who, I think, have let the occasion get the better of them.
00:19:34And have played with hearts
00:19:36and not minds.
00:19:40Here's Saka.
00:19:42Bends the ball and head away by Chalaba.
00:19:51Three-kick this time to Chelsea.
00:19:54And it's a yellow card this time.
00:20:00Reckless use of the arm in the aerial challenge.
00:20:06Ooh, that's a nasty lump.
00:20:08On the cheek.
00:20:11He said it was an elbow.
00:20:17Good challenge by Rice.
00:20:21Chelsea down to ten after their seventh red card of the campaign.
00:20:25This is a good chance for Arsenal.
00:20:29Martinelli!
00:20:30Fun stop!
00:20:32That's the closest Arsenal have come.
00:20:35Martinelli involved early on in the move.
00:20:37Gets it back again.
00:20:38Really splendid save because he saw it late from behind Saka.
00:20:41Had to readjust.
00:20:42Was going one way.
00:20:44Regained his balance.
00:20:45Went the other.
00:20:45And that's a good piece of goalkeeping.
00:20:47As we go in the second half then.
00:20:52Chelsea, of course, all in blue.
00:20:54And defending the shed end away to our left-hand side.
00:21:00Charles Pedro caught as he rose in the air there with Incapier.
00:21:05Yeah, I've had a look at it.
00:21:08That's a head clash.
00:21:09I don't think anything more than that.
00:21:12Charles Pedro, one of the seven Chelsea players sent off this season.
00:21:15Including the manager, that it's...
00:21:18Here's James with the high ball in!
00:21:19Good save!
00:21:21Really good stop to Denyshaar-Pedro.
00:21:27Good stop.
00:21:28It's the first corner for Chelsea.
00:21:33Influx wasn't here.
00:21:34Pusherty!
00:21:35Chelsea late!
00:21:37To the telebar with the glancing header.
00:21:41Arsenal saw deadly upset pieces at the other end of an undone in their own.
00:21:45Chelsea on ahead!
00:21:50The ten men, Chelsea late.
00:21:53Chalibat got in front of the near post and rose higher than Rice.
00:21:59And Mosquera couldn't keep it out at the far post under pressure as he was by Enzo Fernandes.
00:22:04Such a young Chelsea side.
00:22:12Here's Odegaard.
00:22:14Saka to run Kukurea.
00:22:18Stood him up.
00:22:19Lovely cross in the middle.
00:22:19Marino!
00:22:20It's a very good Arsenal equaliser.
00:22:24It's a really good leveller.
00:22:25Well, he comes up with the goods, doesn't he?
00:22:29Time and time again.
00:22:30Signed as a midfield player.
00:22:32Pushed into centre-forward duties.
00:22:34And he gets a really important goal here.
00:22:37Delightful cross.
00:22:39And Chelsea were left with just Gusto to mark two at the far post.
00:22:44Chelsea completely lost him.
00:22:461-1!
00:22:46Saka for Arsenal.
00:22:52Just over four minutes to go.
00:22:54Odegaard.
00:22:56Looks for Marino.
00:22:57Good claim by Sanchez.
00:22:59And the release as well.
00:23:01Now can Chelsea catch Arsenal on the counter?
00:23:04Neto has Gusto up in support.
00:23:06Delap on the far side.
00:23:07They've got a man over here.
00:23:08Chelsea.
00:23:09Oh, he shouldn't have done that.
00:23:11And Garnaccio on the far side looks utterly flummoxed.
00:23:15It's the wrong option to take.
00:23:18He had players to his left-hand side.
00:23:20Better position.
00:23:20Look at Enzo screaming at him.
00:23:23It's wasteful.
00:23:25Do they push for a winner?
00:23:27Do they settle for a point?
00:23:31Mosquera.
00:23:32Saka.
00:23:33Odegaard.
00:23:34Releases Timber.
00:23:36Jokre's got a touch on it.
00:23:37Marino!
00:23:38Powered away.
00:23:39It's Jokre's moment.
00:23:42Well, he had every right to go for the ball.
00:23:44Sanchez is arriving.
00:23:46It was loose.
00:23:47He had every right to go for it.
00:23:50The referee's got a card in his hand.
00:23:51It'll be yellow, I'm sure.
00:23:53It's whether Sanchez had both hands on the ball.
00:24:02Another yellow for Arsenal.
00:24:05That's six now.
00:24:06Good save, actually, by Sanchez.
00:24:08Because, again, he's had to change direction.
00:24:11And then he had two hands on the ball.
00:24:13So, it is a yellow card offence.
00:24:17Well, they would see this as a terrific point, Chelsea.
00:24:20Down to ten men for over half the game.
00:24:24After Clecedo was sent off.
00:24:27Here's Piero and Incapio.
00:24:31Maduweke.
00:24:31Luis Skelly.
00:24:33Last minute to get the ball in.
00:24:37Incapio.
00:24:38Little chip.
00:24:39Big chance.
00:24:41Saka was there.
00:24:42I think Timber glanced it out of the way of Odegaard.
00:24:47Back in comes the second ball.
00:24:48Looking for Mourinho.
00:24:49It's over.
00:24:49Oh, he just takes it out of the way of Jokeres, who was coming in.
00:25:02And probably denies Arsenal the chance of a win.
00:25:051-1 at Stamford Bridge.
00:25:08Cimultuous, Titanic, bad-tempered.
00:25:10But on is even.
00:25:13Right from the beginning, you could sense how much it was at stake.
00:25:16Every duel, every action, it was full gas.
00:25:19Not much football, very short sequences of play.
00:25:22And again, with the ten men, obviously, we expected a different game.
00:25:27We planned it.
00:25:28We went through in the second half and straight away.
00:25:30After the first kick, they get a free kick, a wide free kick from the corner and they score.
00:25:34And emotionally, it becomes a very tricky game to play.
00:25:37The TV replays showed that the tackle was high for the red card, you agree?
00:25:41Yeah, I think it's a red card.
00:25:43I think 11-11, we were in control.
00:25:46We created chances and we were probably doing better than them.
00:25:51Then the red card changed a little bit the dynamic of the game.
00:25:54But even with that, I think the way the players, you know, they dealt with that has been outstanding.
00:26:00Lately, I've been playing as a striker and I'm trying to move in the right areas so my teammates can't find me.
00:26:04And today they did, so I'm really happy for that.
00:26:06I try to take information from every game, every action, even striker that I see on the TV.
00:26:12So that helps me.
00:26:14And you yourself seem to be getting game sharper game by game.
00:26:18Yeah, I think, you know, that comes with, you know, playing consistently, you know, playing, you know, at a high level week in, week out.
00:26:24You know, it's something I didn't do for, you know, a long period and, you know, I've got a good streak, you know, together and, you know, I'm happy to be on the pitch.
00:26:33And you like playing in that midfield role?
00:26:35I like playing full stop.
00:26:38Well, playing in that midfield role, Micah, how important was he in stopping Arsenal?
00:26:43It was sensational.
00:26:45I think Maresco, with a tactical plan, was definitely there.
00:26:49But James was just outstanding in this formation, in that midfield area.
00:26:55So this is him on the ball.
00:26:56So what we do know is, in that midfield, Arsenal like to go man-to-man.
00:27:00And the same for Chelsea as well.
00:27:02But what James was doing, because Rice was marking him, was pulling him all the way out.
00:27:08He didn't know to go to Caicedo or to James.
00:27:11So now James pulled him out, and now it allows Gusto to go in midfield.
00:27:16And that's what's so good about James.
00:27:19Whether he's playing right back, centre mid, he has an effect on the game.
00:27:23OK, they go forward, they break the lines, and then Esteban, he should do better here.
00:27:28So firstly, we've gone with on the ball.
00:27:31This is now him pressing.
00:27:33So I just want to hold it here.
00:27:34James and Rice, normally, and you see Enzo and Zubomendi.
00:27:38But hold it there.
00:27:40But normally, you would have James a little bit further on.
00:27:43But this time, he's the furthest forward in this position.
00:27:48He goes there.
00:27:49He goes to one.
00:27:49He goes to the other.
00:27:51And now, he goes because he knows he's got the protection behind him.
00:27:56A better pass.
00:27:57They're in.
00:27:58Arsenal get numbers back.
00:28:01He was instrumental in the game, exactly what they're doing.
00:28:04But this is my favourite one here.
00:28:06All right, just hold it here.
00:28:07He sees where Rice is.
00:28:09He wants to press him.
00:28:11And as we roll it on, slowly here now, he's absolutely perfect midfield player.
00:28:16Watch.
00:28:17Now, he stops.
00:28:18He looks behind him.
00:28:19He knows exactly that he's covered behind him.
00:28:23Then he decides to go to Califiori and get the ball because he knows he's got a chance to win it.
00:28:28It's all about percentages, when you're supposed to go, when you're supposed to drop off.
00:28:32And for a right-back playing in midfield, it's just sensational to watch.
00:28:36And then, down to ten men, one and two touch.
00:28:40Can you see a pass?
00:28:41We know he's got that.
00:28:42We've been waxing, lyrical about him for years, doing all this sort of stuff.
00:28:46Absolutely perfect.
00:28:47And then, yeah, he's in a position where he wants to receive the ball.
00:28:51Again, Chelsea with ten men, causing Arsenal problems.
00:28:55And then, who gets the corner for Califiori goal there?
00:29:00We know his delivery is so good.
00:29:02And for someone to have that ability to go from right-back to centre midfield,
00:29:07but have that effect on a game, it's just sensational.
00:29:10Yeah, and not just then about stopping Arsenal, it was about creating for Chelsea as well in that game.
00:29:16And it was a hard-fought derby.
00:29:17Mikel Arteta talked about it there.
00:29:20Without ever really spilling over, apart from the Caicedo red card.
00:29:25What were your thoughts on that?
00:29:26Yeah, you can't.
00:29:26There's no argument.
00:29:28It's high and he's endangering an opponent and he's late.
00:29:32And eventually, they get to the right decision, but it's a bad tackle.
00:29:38You can see how high it is here.
00:29:41There, it's, yeah, no argument at all.
00:29:44Clear red card, Mikel?
00:29:45Yes, I did.
00:29:46I didn't, when I watched it earlier on, in real time, I didn't think it was,
00:29:50but as I watched it on and my angle there, it's certainly a red card.
00:29:55Yeah, even though Caicedo himself looks slightly startled to be receiving it.
00:30:00But yeah, it was given as a yellow on the field and then overturned when he went to have a look at it.
00:30:04We talked about Chelsea stopping Arsenal from open play.
00:30:07They were also effective in stopping them from corners as well.
00:30:10I just think they were excellent all over the field.
00:30:13I mean, we know what Arsenal can do and what they try to do.
00:30:15But here, you've got Enzo here blocking the run.
00:30:19Again, James there.
00:30:22No entry.
00:30:23Pedro's not even looking at the ball.
00:30:26And then Cucurella, no entry.
00:30:30Goalkeeper comes and punches it clear.
00:30:32How many times have we seen that before with Arsenal?
00:30:36Pedro's not looking at the ball.
00:30:38He's just looking for the runner.
00:30:41Goalkeeper's got a free punch again.
00:30:43This is not what Arsenal normally do.
00:30:44Normally they're so organised.
00:30:46But this was the perfect one.
00:30:48Brave ten men.
00:30:49Three up against three.
00:30:50They said, no problem.
00:30:51We'll leave Madweke at the edge of the box.
00:30:53We'll defend what we need to defend.
00:30:54And the goalkeeper catches it easy.
00:30:59And, I mean, that was the lowest set-piece expected goals this season
00:31:03because Chelsea defended so well.
00:31:05But they're missing Gabriel and Saliba.
00:31:08Yeah.
00:31:09And taking that into account, missing their two centre-halves
00:31:12or their two first-choice centre-halves,
00:31:14taking into account the week that Arsenal have had,
00:31:18has it been a good week?
00:31:19Or has this kind of set them back in any way, do you think?
00:31:23No, I think when you're up against ten men for that amount of time,
00:31:26I guess there'd be a little bit of disappointment.
00:31:28But I think when you look at the overall big picture,
00:31:31the week they've had, beating Tottenham very impressively,
00:31:33beating Bayern very impressively,
00:31:35and going there today, being 1-0 down,
00:31:37I know they're going to ten men and they're missing
00:31:38their two main centre-halves, coming away with a point,
00:31:41I think that's a very, very good week.
00:31:43Yeah, still keep that gap at five points at the top of the table.
00:31:46Now, Crystal Palace hadn't lost at Selhurst Park
00:31:48since February.
00:31:49They faced Manchester United,
00:31:51whose recent revival suffered a slap in the face
00:31:54against Everton on Monday.
00:31:58David Moyes has never won at Old Trafford
00:32:00as the visiting manager.
00:32:04It's all kicking off within the Everton players here,
00:32:07and a red card has been shown.
00:32:09How ludicrous is this?
00:32:13Dewsbury Hall on the half-turn is away from Fernandes.
00:32:16And then bends it beautifully into the top corner!
00:32:22Sixies head out, what a save, Pinkford!
00:32:25Everton have done it!
00:32:27Manchester United's recent revival ends on home soil.
00:32:30Mark Scott was at Selhurst Park.
00:32:34You could say Palace are punching right now
00:32:39with a win, potentially sending them into the top four.
00:32:42And they have won three of their last four
00:32:45against Manchester United without conceding a goal.
00:32:49Having made a few changes in the Conference League on Thursday,
00:32:52it's back to the same Palace side
00:32:54that started last weekend's win at Wolves.
00:32:56United are too different from Monday.
00:32:58Masraoui and Dorgou go to the bench
00:33:01as Mount and Dallo come in,
00:33:03which means Ahmad moves to right wing back.
00:33:08Gorgeous day at Selhurst Park,
00:33:11and Palace have been looking good here as well.
00:33:14Unbeaten in their last 12 home league games,
00:33:16the longest unbeaten home run in the division.
00:33:19out for the first opportunity
00:33:23for a long throw this afternoon.
00:33:26And it's going to be Diogo Dallo to hurl it in.
00:33:30Dallo gets good distance on it.
00:33:32Richards didn't get there,
00:33:33and it's bouncing around!
00:33:35And Henderson just about keeps it out.
00:33:39The man Palace signed from Manchester United
00:33:41keeps his old side out here just...
00:33:44Good work from Dean Henderson here
00:33:46with Casemiro trying to prod home.
00:33:49And having done his job well,
00:33:53celebrating with the home style end afterwards.
00:33:58Here's Ismail Assar.
00:34:00Plenty of white shirts around him,
00:34:02and one of them gets the challenge in,
00:34:03the shape of Dallo.
00:34:05Fernandes back to Casemiro.
00:34:07This will be a worry for Palace.
00:34:09The ankle took a bit of a pounding on impact there.
00:34:12Warton swept forwards for Mateta.
00:34:20Lovely pass that.
00:34:22Oh, Mateta's absolutely done De Ligt.
00:34:26Jean-Philippe Mateta!
00:34:27Scored a couple at Manchester United last season
00:34:33as had the Eagles' first serious sight of goal
00:34:35against them today, too,
00:34:37having rolled De Ligt,
00:34:39but then not got his angles right
00:34:41with the hit towards the near post.
00:34:44Mateta tried to guide it onto Saar,
00:34:46read by Luke Shaw.
00:34:47Camada's touch is poor,
00:34:49mounts onto it,
00:34:50rolled out to Ahmad.
00:34:54Casemiro, that's clever,
00:34:55makes a free kick.
00:34:57Tachi Camada, who gave the ball away,
00:35:00that allowed United possession in a decent area,
00:35:03tried to make amends,
00:35:04but has taken out Casemiro.
00:35:09In from Bruno Fernandes,
00:35:11a queuing up,
00:35:11and Casemiro should have scored.
00:35:15Wicked delivery from Bruno Fernandes,
00:35:18and it deserved better.
00:35:20Happy birthday to Gary Lineker,
00:35:2265 today,
00:35:24and still looking as good as ever.
00:35:32That's broken for Jean-Philippe Mateta,
00:35:35and Mateta can't take the opening.
00:35:39Yet another big Palace chance
00:35:41that goes begging this season.
00:35:44It's happened time and time again,
00:35:47and here's another to add to the catalogue
00:35:50from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
00:35:54Saar, Mateta.
00:35:59Mateta into De Ligt.
00:36:02Gets her ahead of Ahmad.
00:36:04Gaye.
00:36:09Wharton.
00:36:10Oh, lovely pass.
00:36:12Mateta!
00:36:14Penalty!
00:36:14It's a really rash challenge from Leni Jouro,
00:36:19who doesn't even dispute the call.
00:36:22He knows he clipped him,
00:36:24and Palace have a spot kick.
00:36:27So Mateta,
00:36:28who's scored three of his four penalties
00:36:29for Palace this season,
00:36:31to take this spot kick.
00:36:36Mateta scores.
00:36:37Very coolly done.
00:36:40Laman's guessed wrong
00:36:42as it went to his right.
00:36:45And Jean-Philippe Mateta
00:36:47gives Palace the boom
00:36:49that they were looking for.
00:36:51Oh, hold on a second.
00:36:53There's a double touch
00:36:54from Jean-Philippe Mateta here.
00:36:58The rules were changed
00:36:59that if there's an accidental double touch,
00:37:02it's a retake.
00:37:06Where will he go
00:37:08with this one?
00:37:09Take two for Mateta.
00:37:12And he scores again.
00:37:15And that looked
00:37:16pretty clean contact to me.
00:37:19He gets the chance
00:37:20to celebrate all over again.
00:37:24And this time
00:37:25the goal is rubber-stamped
00:37:26by those watching the replays.
00:37:30It didn't phase
00:37:30Jean-Philippe Mateta, did it?
00:37:32It's Mila Saar
00:37:34who is being taken off here
00:37:37and Eddie Nketiah
00:37:38is on for him
00:37:40and that's a blow
00:37:41for Palace.
00:37:49Oh, and there's a slip
00:37:50from De Ligt
00:37:51and Nketiah's through.
00:37:53Eddie Nketiah for Palace.
00:37:55Took too long.
00:37:57What a let-off that is
00:37:58for Manchester United.
00:38:00Eddie Nketiah
00:38:01too slow to get up there
00:38:03too slow to get up there
00:38:03and that allowed the chance
00:38:04for the challenge
00:38:05to come in
00:38:06from Luke Shaw.
00:38:11Okay, he's passed
00:38:12a bit scruffy.
00:38:18Foul and I think
00:38:19it's going to be a card
00:38:20as well.
00:38:23Eddie Nketiah
00:38:24clumsy
00:38:24as he lunched in.
00:38:25in from Fernandes.
00:38:33Zerxi's got the wrong side here.
00:38:34Angle's tough
00:38:35but he's still made it work.
00:38:39Joshua Zerxi
00:38:40with a lethal finish
00:38:43to level for Manchester United.
00:38:46He has done next to nothing
00:38:49all afternoon
00:38:50but has produced the goods here
00:38:53to make it one each.
00:38:56Zerxi
00:38:57from such an acute angle
00:38:59didn't seem to have much hope
00:39:01of scoring from there
00:39:02but it is a razor-sharp strike
00:39:06beyond Henderson
00:39:07and in.
00:39:08Not the kind of finish
00:39:09you'd associate with somebody
00:39:10who hasn't scored
00:39:11in the Premier League
00:39:12for a year.
00:39:12Ketiah dragged back
00:39:15it's a Palace free kick.
00:39:23Pino
00:39:24for Munoz
00:39:26and Gaye
00:39:27didn't get anything on it
00:39:28but it nearly went in anyway.
00:39:31Nobody picking up
00:39:33Daniel Munoz
00:39:33who put it into
00:39:34a very handy area
00:39:35and then it was
00:39:37clattered by Masraoui
00:39:39onto Zerxi
00:39:40who nearly scored
00:39:41at the other end
00:39:42Zerxi's flick
00:39:47Dallo's interested
00:39:48and Munoz
00:39:48in the middle
00:39:49and that's a free kick
00:39:52Mark Gaye is
00:39:52absolutely stunned
00:39:54that he's been penalised there
00:39:56well Gaye here
00:39:58saying that
00:39:59he didn't do anything wrong
00:40:00but that's not how
00:40:01Rob Jones saw it
00:40:02made off
00:40:03Mount to hit
00:40:04oh it's in
00:40:05Manchester United
00:40:07have turned it around
00:40:08Mason Mount
00:40:10with the low drill home
00:40:12his second
00:40:15of the season
00:40:17Dean Henderson
00:40:19was trying to get
00:40:20the wall sorted
00:40:20and then
00:40:21just seemed to give up
00:40:23and then it went through
00:40:25the wall
00:40:25and then
00:40:25two set piece goals
00:40:28from Manchester United
00:40:29have them in front
00:40:31he is absolutely raging
00:40:36at the way that the game
00:40:37has panned out
00:40:37Hughes
00:40:42all takes a tumble
00:40:45Palace free kick
00:40:46right at the end
00:40:48Devaney
00:40:55into the wall
00:40:58and end of the game
00:40:59Manchester United
00:41:01respond
00:41:03to that disappointment
00:41:05against Everton
00:41:07by ending
00:41:08Crystal Palace's
00:41:10long
00:41:10unbeaten run
00:41:12here
00:41:12in the Premier League
00:41:14Crystal Palace
00:41:16what did you do
00:41:21to turn that game
00:41:22around
00:41:23explain small things
00:41:26but I think
00:41:26it was clear
00:41:27that just
00:41:28the pace
00:41:29the intensity
00:41:29of the game
00:41:30we have to increase
00:41:31that
00:41:31I also noticed
00:41:34in the end
00:41:35of the first half
00:41:35and I told that
00:41:36to the players
00:41:37that they were tired
00:41:38and you can feel it
00:41:40and you will drop
00:41:40if we score a goal
00:41:42mentally
00:41:42they will
00:41:43they will suffer
00:41:44what are the things
00:41:45that you do
00:41:45to make the most
00:41:46of that
00:41:46it's
00:41:47the runs
00:41:49and you can feel
00:41:51that Josh
00:41:52was not just
00:41:53connecting the ball
00:41:54it was also
00:41:55to making the runs
00:41:56we win a second ball
00:41:57they have more
00:41:58difficulties
00:41:58to recover
00:41:59from pressing
00:42:00and then recover
00:42:01for the second half
00:42:02for the second ball
00:42:04and just explain
00:42:06that to the players
00:42:07and we took advantage
00:42:08quite well
00:42:09in the second half
00:42:10tell me about
00:42:10the quality
00:42:11of both of those goals
00:42:12though from Xerxi
00:42:13and Mount
00:42:13no unbelievable goals
00:42:15obviously
00:42:15I think the Josh one
00:42:16I didn't even thought
00:42:18he could score
00:42:19from there
00:42:20it was a hell of a strike
00:42:21I think if you
00:42:23play the first time
00:42:24in your history
00:42:25European football
00:42:26then you should invest
00:42:28and not save
00:42:28I think January
00:42:29is too late
00:42:30you know
00:42:30we have played
00:42:32more than 50%
00:42:33of our games
00:42:34at Isma
00:42:34we lost him today
00:42:35with an injury
00:42:37and also he goes
00:42:37to AFCON
00:42:38so everything
00:42:39we are facing now
00:42:41it's not surprisingly
00:42:43so everything
00:42:43was pretty clear
00:42:44and I always
00:42:47really
00:42:47didn't say anything
00:42:50but today
00:42:50I think it's also
00:42:52time to speak
00:42:53about it
00:42:53that we
00:42:54we missed
00:42:56the chance
00:42:58to play
00:42:59even a better season
00:43:00in the summer
00:43:02well of course
00:43:04we are going to talk
00:43:05about Oliver Glasner's
00:43:06comments
00:43:07but I want to go back
00:43:08to what Ruben Amirim
00:43:09said about Manchester United
00:43:10he said that he spotted
00:43:11the tiredness in Crystal Palace
00:43:13and told his players
00:43:14how to exploit that weakness
00:43:15just run us through Alan
00:43:17what they weren't getting right
00:43:19in the first half
00:43:19and what they needed
00:43:20to change in the second
00:43:21you watch what happens
00:43:22in the first half
00:43:23in terms of
00:43:24a lack of effort
00:43:25a lack of running
00:43:26a lack of commitment
00:43:28a lack of closing down
00:43:29Crystal Palace
00:43:30on the ball
00:43:30no pressure
00:43:31from Manchester United
00:43:33one
00:43:33through ball
00:43:34beats three or four
00:43:36Manchester United players
00:43:37and
00:43:38the tackle here
00:43:39is hopeless
00:43:40from De Ligt
00:43:41and they're straight through
00:43:42simply because
00:43:43the application
00:43:44wasn't there
00:43:45the intensity
00:43:46wasn't there
00:43:47the aggression
00:43:47wasn't there
00:43:48you've got far too much time
00:43:50on the ball
00:43:50Crystal Palace
00:43:51you give good players time
00:43:53when they're going to
00:43:54punish you
00:43:55and they get into
00:43:55some really good positions
00:43:57same thing again
00:43:58look at the time
00:43:59Wharton's got on the ball
00:44:00three, four, five touches
00:44:01before anyone even
00:44:02gets close to him
00:44:04then Kamada on the edge
00:44:05of the box
00:44:05look there's no one near him
00:44:07that should be
00:44:08in the back of the net
00:44:08and all of a sudden
00:44:09Amaran gets into his team
00:44:11at half time
00:44:12watch the difference
00:44:13in the second half
00:44:13I mean that is clear
00:44:16the running is clear
00:44:17the closing down
00:44:18is clear
00:44:19the commitment
00:44:20is clear
00:44:20that it is so much better
00:44:22in the second half
00:44:23where was this
00:44:24in the first half
00:44:25and that's exactly
00:44:26what the manager's on about
00:44:28at the end of the game
00:44:29that's why he was having
00:44:30a pop with his players
00:44:30at half time
00:44:32because this was not
00:44:33happening
00:44:33in the first half
00:44:35O'Key wants to get through
00:44:36but look at the
00:44:36they actually win
00:44:37the second ball
00:44:38it seems they're up
00:44:40much more up for that fight
00:44:41in the second half
00:44:42and they get the
00:44:43rewards
00:44:44look
00:44:44there's no time
00:44:46for any Crystal Palace
00:44:47player to get on the ball
00:44:48because there's always
00:44:49two or three players
00:44:50in and around them
00:44:51I mentioned the second ball
00:44:52what's the reaction
00:44:53when they lose it
00:44:53I didn't see that
00:44:55in the first half
00:44:56Man Utd fans
00:44:57didn't see that
00:44:57in the first half
00:44:59and then all of a sudden
00:45:00they play on the front foot
00:45:01they lose the ball
00:45:02look at that
00:45:02the difference
00:45:02from the forward players
00:45:04who are then all of a sudden
00:45:05chasing back
00:45:06and absolutely
00:45:07because Crystal Palace
00:45:08played in Europe
00:45:09on Thursday evening
00:45:11Man Utd had the full week
00:45:12to prepare
00:45:12they didn't
00:45:13they played on Monday evening
00:45:14that should have happened
00:45:15from the off
00:45:16they got away with it today
00:45:17but you have to give him
00:45:18credit for the way
00:45:19he changed it
00:45:20and the way he got stuck
00:45:20into his players
00:45:21at half time
00:45:22because they were a different
00:45:23team in the second half
00:45:24Yeah as Alan said
00:45:25and as Oliver Glasner
00:45:26alluded to as well
00:45:27one of the reasons
00:45:28that they spotted
00:45:29that tiredness
00:45:29in Crystal Palace
00:45:31is because they do have
00:45:32this intense run
00:45:34of fixtures
00:45:35and this is what they've done
00:45:36after European games
00:45:37this season
00:45:38just the one win
00:45:39and that was against
00:45:40Aston Villa
00:45:40when Villa were playing
00:45:41really poorly
00:45:42at the start of the season
00:45:44and struggling
00:45:44to get results
00:45:45it's been difficult
00:45:47for them
00:45:48to kind of
00:45:48to absorb
00:45:50those extra fixtures
00:45:51without
00:45:51as Oliver Glasner said
00:45:52really going in
00:45:54and investing
00:45:55in their squad
00:45:56and having lost
00:45:57big name players
00:45:58as well
00:45:58Micah
00:45:59Yeah
00:46:00I mean
00:46:00the summer business
00:46:01Pino was very good
00:46:03but if you just look up here
00:46:05they made a profit
00:46:07in the summer
00:46:08and when you're losing
00:46:09Eze
00:46:09and you know
00:46:11Ward
00:46:11it was released
00:46:13but in terms of
00:46:14a structure
00:46:15in the dressing room
00:46:16Franca, Schlupp
00:46:17and Edouard
00:46:18and that's all
00:46:19you bring in
00:46:19I mean
00:46:20as a manager
00:46:22you're thinking
00:46:22I've won the FA Cup
00:46:24I deserve
00:46:26a little bit more
00:46:27and the fans
00:46:28are all thinking
00:46:29that are the same thing
00:46:30as well
00:46:31but you have to be
00:46:32realistic as well
00:46:33if you look where
00:46:34Palace are
00:46:35in the league
00:46:36this season
00:46:37what they've done
00:46:38last season
00:46:39who they're going to attract
00:46:40I think that was a statement
00:46:42from the manager
00:46:43saying
00:46:44give me
00:46:45give me what I want
00:46:46or I'm going to walk up
00:46:47at the end of the season
00:46:47because his contract's up
00:46:49and you can see there
00:46:5011 changes
00:46:50which is the fewest of any side
00:46:52in the Premier League
00:46:52so far this season
00:46:53does it feel like a row
00:46:55that he's now having publicly
00:46:56yeah well he's come out
00:46:57and said that
00:46:58he said himself
00:46:59that he'd be kept quiet
00:47:00for such a long time
00:47:01and I guess he's got
00:47:02he's got it in the bank
00:47:03because of the success
00:47:04they had last season
00:47:05I think they're a very
00:47:06very good team
00:47:07they're a very good 11
00:47:08but once you get through
00:47:09that 11
00:47:10and you're going to get injuries
00:47:11and you're playing on Thursdays
00:47:12and Sundays
00:47:13that is a big ask
00:47:14for those same players
00:47:15to keep going again
00:47:16and again
00:47:16and again
00:47:17and clearly they can't do it
00:47:18there was one other thing
00:47:20you wanted to talk about
00:47:21from this game
00:47:21which was the appearance
00:47:22of an old friend
00:47:24some old guy
00:47:25made an appearance
00:47:26on our TV this afternoon
00:47:28who's that?
00:47:28happy birthday to him
00:47:29I was going to say
00:47:30he looks like a pensioner
00:47:31and I thought
00:47:31he actually is one
00:47:32got his free bus pass
00:47:35free bus pass there
00:47:36yeah
00:47:37to the stadium
00:47:37he's so rude
00:47:40he's looking well though
00:47:40at least
00:47:41he's looking great
00:47:42happy birthday guys
00:47:42happy birthday guys
00:47:44happy birthday guys
00:47:44now Wolves boss
00:47:47Rob Edwards
00:47:47made his Premier League debut
00:47:49as a player
00:47:50for Aston Villa
00:47:51he returned to Villa Park
00:47:52with his team
00:47:53bottom of the table
00:47:54nine points from safety
00:47:56John Roder was watching
00:47:57Doniel Marlon
00:48:00replaces Ollie Watkins
00:48:01in the only change
00:48:02from last weekend's win
00:48:03at Leeds
00:48:03Marlon scored twice
00:48:05in the Europa League
00:48:06victory here
00:48:06over Young Boys
00:48:07on Thursday
00:48:08Villa have won
00:48:09all four of their matches
00:48:10following a European tie
00:48:12this season
00:48:12they've won six
00:48:13of their last seven
00:48:14in the Premier League
00:48:15Rob Edwards
00:48:17makes three changes
00:48:18for his first away match
00:48:19Yersin Mosquera
00:48:20John Arias
00:48:21and Jean-Richner Belgaard
00:48:23come into a Wolves side
00:48:24who have lost their last five
00:48:26in the Premier League
00:48:26and they've scored
00:48:27only one goal
00:48:28away from Molyneux
00:48:30Aston Villa
00:48:33who won this fixture
00:48:34by three goals
00:48:35to one last season
00:48:36Wolves won the return
00:48:39by two goals
00:48:40to nil at Molyneux
00:48:40back in February
00:48:42first corner
00:48:43of the match
00:48:44and it comes inside
00:48:45the opening minute
00:48:46Luca Dien to take
00:48:48Thielamonts
00:48:49offering the option
00:48:50of a short corner
00:48:51didn't quite work out
00:48:54on that occasion
00:48:54for Villa
00:48:55Thielamonts
00:48:56bundled over
00:48:58by his opposite number
00:48:59Gomes
00:49:00Diena to take
00:49:04into a crowded
00:49:07penalty area
00:49:08goalkeeper
00:49:10couldn't quite get there
00:49:11it's off the bar
00:49:12and then into the side
00:49:13netting
00:49:14from Pau Torres
00:49:15Sam Johnston
00:49:16came for that ball
00:49:17and that's a lucky
00:49:19escape for Wolves
00:49:20Andre finds
00:49:26Bell guard
00:49:27sprint on the far side
00:49:29for Chatua
00:49:29Chatua's ball back
00:49:31Strand Larson
00:49:32Wolves in front
00:49:35but
00:49:38the flag has been raised
00:49:40on the far side
00:49:41for offside
00:49:42and it may well be
00:49:44the position here
00:49:46of John Arias
00:49:47that is being called
00:49:49into question
00:49:49this is the view
00:49:51that Martinez had
00:49:53the check
00:49:54has been completed
00:49:55and the goal
00:49:57will not stand
00:49:58Wolves have most
00:50:00certainly come here
00:50:01and frustrated
00:50:02Aston Villa
00:50:03and the Aston Villa
00:50:05supporters
00:50:05Gomes
00:50:07Arias
00:50:09Chatua
00:50:10Strand Larson
00:50:11beaten away
00:50:12by Martinez
00:50:13terrific chance
00:50:16for Wolves
00:50:17as we go into
00:50:18additional time
00:50:18at the end of the first half
00:50:20Strand Larson
00:50:20just getting there
00:50:21ahead of Konsat
00:50:23and Wolves get a corner
00:50:25Andre to take
00:50:27header towards goal
00:50:30is off the bar
00:50:30Mosquera
00:50:33headed that one
00:50:35with such power
00:50:36it flew past Martinez
00:50:38and Aston Villa
00:50:39are so so fortunate
00:50:41not to go behind
00:50:42Wolves
00:50:43so unlucky
00:50:44so unlucky
00:50:44not to be in front
00:50:45Mosquera's header
00:50:48it doesn't cross the goal line
00:50:51does Martinez get a touch
00:50:54on the ball
00:50:55as it comes towards goal
00:50:56yes he does
00:50:57superb stop
00:50:59from Emi Martinez
00:51:00the goal
00:51:02the Wolves
00:51:03haven't scored now
00:51:04for the equivalent
00:51:05of four matches
00:51:06in the Premier League
00:51:08their last goal
00:51:09coming just before
00:51:11half time

00:53:39VAR

00:53:42to stop the game
00:53:43for a potential
00:53:44review
00:53:45for serious
00:53:46foul play
00:53:47so a possible

00:54:10commits a reckless
00:54:11challenge only
00:54:12final decision
00:54:14is yellow card
00:54:15and free kick
00:54:16and it is
00:54:19a yellow
00:54:20could have been

00:54:38will let it run
00:54:39Wolves corner
00:54:40Andre to take
00:54:42Aston Villa
00:54:42have everybody
00:54:43back
00:54:44inside their own
00:54:45penalty area
00:54:45desperate to hold
00:54:47on to this
00:54:47one goal lead
00:54:48Gomez
00:54:51Martinez
00:54:52with another
00:54:52save
00:54:53and Villa
00:54:56fans can breathe
00:54:57again
00:54:57Gomez
00:54:59finding himself
00:54:59in a little bit
00:55:00of room
00:55:00here
00:55:01Martinez
00:55:02with the block
00:55:02I think the difference
00:55:04between last week
00:55:05and this week
00:55:06was pretty big
00:55:07it was a really good
00:55:09performance
00:55:09but football was about
00:55:11winning as well
00:55:13and ultimately
00:55:15that's what's proving
00:55:16really difficult
00:55:16for us at the moment
00:55:17have Villa been working
00:55:18particularly on shooting
00:55:19from outside the penalty area
00:55:20because you seem to have
00:55:21got a lot of goals
00:55:22from outside the box
00:55:24they are practicing
00:55:24and I'm telling them
00:55:25you must show it
00:55:27in official matches
00:55:29and they are doing
00:55:29and today
00:55:30the goal he scored
00:55:31is really fantastic
00:55:32and it was the consequences
00:55:35how we were
00:55:35more or less dominating
00:55:36getting their box
00:55:37they were defending so low
00:55:39but we were
00:55:40being bashing
00:55:41sometimes crossing
00:55:41sometimes doing more passes
00:55:43and shooting like he did
00:55:44when you struck it
00:55:45did you think
00:55:45that's going in
00:55:46it's very fast
00:55:48so good control
00:55:50I tried to shoot
00:55:51and after I see
00:55:52the ball was good
00:55:55so yeah
00:55:56I'm happy with the goal
00:55:57I'm happy to help the team
00:56:00and we need to continue
00:56:02Well Boubacar Kamara's goal
00:56:05settled it
00:56:05but no team
00:56:06has scored more goals
00:56:08from outside the area
00:56:09than Aston Villa
00:56:10and no team
00:56:11has conceded more goals
00:56:13from outside the area
00:56:14than Wolves
00:56:15so we should have seen
00:56:16this one coming Micah
00:56:17Yes we should have
00:56:18but it's not just
00:56:20this game today
00:56:21I think Aston Villa
00:56:22do this really well
00:56:23suck people in
00:56:24and then whoever's
00:56:25at the edge of the box
00:56:26know exactly what
00:56:27they're going to do
00:56:27Touch
00:56:28wonderful finish
00:56:30from Kamara
00:56:31who's a bit of an unsung
00:56:31hero in this
00:56:32Aston Villa side
00:56:33this is Cash
00:56:35versus Sunderland
00:56:36again
00:56:36really top finish
00:56:40I think it should do
00:56:41a little bit better
00:56:41but it's outside the box
00:56:42McGinn
00:56:43who I've played with
00:56:44has always had
00:56:45this sort of thing
00:56:46but the power he gets
00:56:47on that is brilliant
00:56:48but they've needed
00:56:50these goals
00:56:50because Watkins
00:56:51has not been
00:56:52in the best form
00:56:53and firing
00:56:54here's Buendia
00:56:55outside
00:56:57on the foot
00:56:58and lovely
00:56:58and then
00:57:00Anana
00:57:01as well
00:57:02on the edge
00:57:03because what they do
00:57:04Villa
00:57:04they suck you back
00:57:05and then they know
00:57:05they've got the quality
00:57:06at the edge
00:57:06it's as simple as that
00:57:08however
00:57:09if you look at
00:57:10the lowest XG
00:57:11in the Premier League
00:57:12this season
00:57:13they've actually scored
00:57:1416 goals
00:57:15but only expected
00:57:1611.9
00:57:18same with Sunderland
00:57:19as well
00:57:19so that means
00:57:20they're doing okay
00:57:21in terms of scoring goals
00:57:22but they can't rely on that
00:57:24is that sustainable
00:57:25for the whole season
00:57:26scoring them long ranges
00:57:27is it?
00:57:28well if you keep playing that
00:57:29yes
00:57:29but I don't think
00:57:32I mean
00:57:32he can't score
00:57:33worldy after worldy
00:57:34every week
00:57:35and the other thing
00:57:36we saw today Alan
00:57:37was another one of those goals
00:57:38where a player's
00:57:39in an offside position
00:57:40and so the goal
00:57:41is disallowed for offside
00:57:42despite the fact
00:57:42that he doesn't play it
00:57:44this is Jorgen Strand
00:57:45Larsson's goal
00:57:46what are your thoughts
00:57:47on this offside
00:57:49and just
00:57:50explain the thought process
00:57:51I think it is the right decision
00:57:53because there's an argument
00:57:54that is two actually
00:57:55one he's in the line of sight
00:57:56but the one who's disallowed for
00:57:58has clearly impacted
00:57:59the ability of the keeper
00:58:00with his movement there
00:58:01in ducking out the ball
00:58:02is to get to the ball
00:58:03so I think that was
00:58:04the correct decision
00:58:05okay
00:58:05you've really brushed up on that
00:58:07haven't you?
00:58:08fantastic Alan
00:58:09almost like it's his job
00:58:10definitely better in fifth place
00:58:15back to back wins
00:58:17had moved Nottingham
00:58:18out of the bottom three
00:58:20Brighton lost 7-0
00:58:22on their last visit
00:58:23to the city ground
00:58:23your commentator for this one
00:58:25Vicky Sparks
00:58:26that crushing defeat here
00:58:29remains Brighton's
00:58:30worst league loss
00:58:31since 1958
00:58:33they haven't lost
00:58:34back-to-back league games
00:58:36against Forest though

00:58:44from the Europa League win

00:58:49Murato replacing
00:58:50the injured Murillo
00:58:51Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk
00:58:53is fit enough to start
00:58:54replacing Olivier Boscagli
00:58:55Carlos Beliva
00:58:57struggling for form
00:58:58is benched

00:59:05paid tribute
00:59:05to their former
00:59:06academy goalkeeper
00:59:07Josh Travis
00:59:09after he passed away
00:59:10this week
00:59:11at the age of 14
00:59:13here's Diego Gomez
00:59:42lovely ball to find
00:59:44De Kuyper
00:59:45Brighton really
00:59:46starting strongly
00:59:47here
00:59:48and the connection
00:59:50can't quite be made
00:59:52in the centre
00:59:53what a start
00:59:55it's been from Brighton
00:59:56Diego Gomez
00:59:58involved almost immediately
01:00:01this is his 40th day
01:00:05in charge of Nottingham Forest
01:00:07Sean Dyche
01:00:08more better
01:00:09than his predecessor
01:00:10and Costa Cogli
01:00:11Ruta wins the corner
01:00:15relentless pressure
01:00:19at the moment
01:00:19from Brighton
01:00:20Hyder's delivery
01:00:26kept alive by Diego Gomez
01:00:29and off the line
01:00:30not once but twice
01:00:32Danny Welbeck
01:00:33to drive it
01:00:33they just can't force
01:00:36a way through Brighton
01:00:37what about
01:00:37Cadioglu
01:00:38again Forest
01:00:40get bodies in the way
01:00:41well they are

01:01:08of Nico
01:01:08Williams
01:01:09surely now
01:01:09for Brighton
01:01:10and no
01:01:11FIFA was in there
01:01:14the latest
01:01:15to rack up a chance
01:01:16for the visitors
01:01:17lovely play
01:01:20again by Minte
01:01:21and the ricochet
01:01:23off FIFA
01:01:25from Milenkovich's block
01:01:27took it behind
01:01:29and he'll be delighted
01:01:32with this start
01:01:32the only thing
01:01:35he'll be wondering
01:01:35is how they haven't
01:01:36scored
01:01:37Ayari
01:01:39Ruta
01:01:43Minte
01:01:44FIFA
01:01:45still it won't
01:01:47go in for Brighton
01:01:48you can hear
01:01:51the rumblings
01:01:52of discontent
01:01:52around the city
01:01:53ground
01:01:53because it is
01:01:54all Brighton
01:01:55how on earth
01:01:58is this still
01:01:59goalless
01:01:59well he's not
01:02:02happy is he
01:02:02they are being
01:02:05completely outplayed
01:02:06at the moment
01:02:06Nottingham Forest
01:02:07that was a little
01:02:13loose
01:02:14and it could be
01:02:15costly from FIFA
01:02:16Dominguez
01:02:17keeps wide
01:02:19oh what an effort
01:02:25well to say
01:02:26that would have been
01:02:27against the runner
01:02:28play
01:02:29I think
01:02:30would have been
01:02:31the understatement
01:02:31of the season
01:02:32so far
01:02:33for Brigham
01:02:38almost charged
01:02:39down there
01:02:39by Ndoy
01:02:40FIFA
01:02:43Ruta
01:02:44and it will roll
01:02:45to De Kuyper
01:02:46and the only
01:02:50question is
01:02:51how
01:02:52that has
01:02:53taken so long
01:02:54Brighton
01:02:55finally
01:02:57are ahead
01:02:58chance
01:03:00after chance
01:03:02after chance
01:03:03and on the

01:03:10of them
01:03:11quite emphatically
01:03:13Sells
01:03:15finally
01:03:16is beaten
01:03:17Brighton
01:03:18hit the front
01:03:19it's largely
01:03:29been a very
01:03:29controlled
01:03:30performance
01:03:31from Brighton
01:03:31flurry of
01:03:33chance after
01:03:33chance in the
01:03:34first half
01:03:34might fashion
01:03:36another one
01:03:36here
01:03:37Morato
01:03:37there
01:03:37oh he's
01:03:38missed it
01:03:38brilliant

01:03:43by Max
01:03:43Sells
01:03:44well it's
01:03:46the story
01:03:46of the
01:03:46first half
01:03:47all over
01:03:47again
01:03:48super
01:03:51goalkeeping

01:04:01defeat here
01:04:01last season
01:04:02Fabian
01:04:03Herzler
01:04:03actually

01:04:05his pre-match
01:04:06game plan
01:04:06in front
01:04:07of his
01:04:08players
01:04:08and they've
01:04:10certainly
01:04:10come here
01:04:11it feels
01:04:12with a bit
01:04:13of a point
01:04:13to prove
01:04:14number of
01:04:15chances
01:04:15they've
01:04:16racked up
01:04:16in this

01:04:24there
01:04:24and it's
01:04:27turned
01:04:27into a
01:04:28brilliant
01:04:28counter-attack
01:04:29for Nottingham
01:04:30Forest
01:04:30Hutchinson
01:04:31Jesus
01:04:32great stop
01:04:33for Bruggen
01:04:33well we've
01:04:38seen some
01:04:39fine goalkeeping
01:04:40at both ends
01:04:41in the last few
01:04:41moments
01:04:42looks as though
01:04:48that five game
01:04:49unbeaten run
01:04:50is coming to
01:04:51an end for
01:04:52Forest
01:04:52Morato
01:05:00oh didn't
01:05:01quite get
01:05:01enough on
01:05:02it
01:05:02Gruder
01:05:02down
01:05:03it's in
01:05:04anyway
01:05:0519 year old
01:05:08Stefanos
01:05:09Jimas
01:05:10with his
01:05:11first
01:05:11Premier League
01:05:12goal
01:05:13and it
01:05:14seals the
01:05:15victory for
01:05:16Brighton
01:05:16and Morato
01:05:20with the
01:05:22agony
01:05:22of not
01:05:23getting enough
01:05:24on that
01:05:24header
01:05:25Sells
01:05:26did all
01:05:27he could
01:05:27and Morato
01:05:30so doubly
01:05:31unlucky
01:05:32can't get
01:05:32enough
01:05:33on the
01:05:33header
01:05:33can't
01:05:34get it
01:05:35decisively
01:05:35away
01:05:36Brighton
01:05:37lead by
01:05:38two goals
01:05:38to nil
01:05:38very good
01:05:42win from
01:05:42Brighton
01:05:43so many
01:05:45positives
01:05:46to take
01:05:46along with
01:05:47the three
01:05:48points
01:05:48from the
01:05:49city
01:05:49grounds
01:05:50a modicum
01:05:52of revenge
01:05:53for their
01:05:54humiliation
01:05:55here last
01:05:55season
01:05:56it ends
01:05:57Nottingham
01:05:58Forest
01:05:58nil
01:05:58Brighton
01:05:59and Hove
01:05:59Albion
01:06:00too
01:06:00after 20
01:06:03minutes
01:06:03I thought
01:06:03we really
01:06:03started to
01:06:04group the
01:06:04game again
01:06:04and get
01:06:05more of a
01:06:05tactical grip
01:06:06of the
01:06:06game
01:06:06and the
01:06:06performance
01:06:07energy
01:06:07came back
01:06:08and I
01:06:08thought
01:06:08it was
01:06:08quite a
01:06:09solid
01:06:09first half
01:06:10after their
01:06:11first 20
01:06:11minutes
01:06:11and then
01:06:12we give
01:06:12away a
01:06:12really soft
01:06:12goal
01:06:13you know
01:06:13you've got to
01:06:13manage the
01:06:14game at that
01:06:14point
01:06:14we don't
01:06:15deliver a
01:06:16very simple
01:06:16moment
01:06:17we just
01:06:17don't shift
01:06:17across as a
01:06:18unit
01:06:18at the back
01:06:19and they get
01:06:19a runner
01:06:20through the
01:06:20middle
01:06:20so we
01:06:21disappointed
01:06:21with that
01:06:21we
01:06:22dominated
01:06:22against a
01:06:24good opponent
01:06:26we controlled
01:06:27the game
01:06:30the second half
01:06:31we suffered
01:06:31a little bit
01:06:32of course
01:06:32Nottingham
01:06:33they tried
01:06:34a lot
01:06:34they brought
01:06:35them some
01:06:36good
01:06:36energy
01:06:36quality
01:06:37but we
01:06:37stick together
01:06:38we defended
01:06:38the box
01:06:39quite well
01:06:39and then
01:06:40I thought
01:06:40in the end
01:06:41it was a
01:06:41deserved win
01:06:42how much
01:06:44did their
01:06:44movement in
01:06:45midfield
01:06:45cause problems
01:06:46for Nottingham
01:06:47Forest
01:06:47Alan
01:06:47yeah that
01:06:48was a big
01:06:49plus for
01:06:50Brighton
01:06:50and has been
01:06:51for a while
01:06:52because they're
01:06:53clever in what
01:06:53they do
01:06:54they're smart
01:06:54in what they
01:06:55do
01:06:55I know
01:06:55Forest
01:06:55were missing
01:06:56Murillo
01:06:56which was a
01:06:57big loss
01:06:58for them
01:06:59but a lot
01:06:59of the time
01:07:00in Brighton
01:07:00play
01:07:00if you watch
01:07:01Danny Welbeck
01:07:01he actually
01:07:02stays deep
01:07:03and tries to
01:07:04draw the centre
01:07:04half out
01:07:05as he did
01:07:05there
01:07:06but what
01:07:06happens
01:07:07ahead of him
01:07:08is that
01:07:08and that's
01:07:09what I mean
01:07:10about smart
01:07:10and clever
01:07:11and understanding
01:07:12how and when
01:07:13to run
01:07:14I mean
01:07:14Brighton
01:07:15were all over
01:07:15Forest
01:07:16they had nine
01:07:16shots in the
01:07:17first 20 minutes
01:07:18which tells you
01:07:18how much they
01:07:20were
01:07:20how much
01:07:20dominated
01:07:21but there's
01:07:21Welbeck again
01:07:22but again
01:07:23look what goes
01:07:24on ahead of him
01:07:25and they do it
01:07:27really really well
01:07:28and they were
01:07:28creating so many
01:07:29chances
01:07:29Michael
01:07:29yeah and I think
01:07:31you said it
01:07:31really well
01:07:32it's all about
01:07:33the timing
01:07:33isn't it
01:07:34you know
01:07:34when he comes
01:07:35deep
01:07:35he's not coming
01:07:35deep just for a
01:07:36reason
01:07:36he's coming deep
01:07:37to drag someone
01:07:38out
01:07:38and then
01:07:39can you find
01:07:40the pass wide
01:07:41Weefer
01:07:43lovely pass there
01:07:44from
01:07:45it was dunk
01:07:46and then
01:07:46inside
01:07:47then you need
01:07:48forward runners
01:07:49Minter's been
01:07:49outstanding all
01:07:50season
01:07:51unlucky
01:07:52on that
01:07:53attempt there
01:07:54and it was just
01:07:54wave after wave
01:07:55goalkeeper getting
01:07:56involved
01:07:57they're not just
01:07:58long balls
01:07:59he knows exactly
01:08:00what he needs to
01:08:01do with them
01:08:01really long passes
01:08:03and then
01:08:03the movement
01:08:04and then the
01:08:05finish
01:08:06absolutely
01:08:07outstanding
01:08:08from Brian
01:08:08tough to mark
01:08:09when you time it
01:08:10like as well
01:08:10as they have done
01:08:11yeah good win
01:08:12for Brighton
01:08:12and there is
01:08:13plenty more
01:08:14football to come

01:08:27about
01:08:27the dream

01:09:19he's spotted
01:09:19Bruce off

01:09:23sensational
01:09:24goal that is
01:09:25from the

01:09:26Reynaldo goes
01:09:30down

01:10:03the heartbeat
01:10:03of Brentford's
01:10:04attack this
01:10:05season
01:10:06and he puts
01:10:07the keeper
01:10:07the wrong
01:10:09way
01:10:09oh
01:10:13hesitation

01:10:20who's got a
01:10:21good record
01:10:21from spot
01:10:22but can't do
01:10:23anything about
01:10:24that
01:10:25here's Keone
01:10:27who gave away
01:10:28the penalty
01:10:29a moment ago
01:10:29Henderson
01:10:30that's a
01:10:30really good
01:10:30ball in
01:10:31Kyle Walker
01:10:32he tried to
01:10:33clear and
01:10:33couldn't
01:10:34and that
01:10:35man again
01:10:36Igor Thiago

01:10:53of players
01:10:54and in
01:10:54Barnes
01:10:57couldn't find
01:10:59Voltemada

01:11:00effort from
01:11:00Livermanto
01:11:01Miley

01:11:05Newcastle

01:11:22ball by
01:11:23Tarkovsky
01:11:23Tewsbury Hall
01:11:25fabulous
01:11:25taken goal
01:11:26Jimenez is in
01:11:30the middle
01:11:30Wilson's up
01:11:31there too
01:11:32Kenetete with a
01:11:37shot which
01:11:37takes a deflection
01:11:38and Fulham
01:11:39ahead in
01:11:40three and a
01:11:40half minutes
01:11:41and now
01:11:42Jimenez and
01:11:43Vicario
01:11:43fully committed
01:11:44he's given the
01:11:48ball away
01:11:49and now he's a mile
01:11:50out of his goal
01:11:51as Harry
01:11:52Wilson makes it
01:11:53two
01:11:53oh what an
01:11:54error by Vicario
01:11:56what was he
01:11:57thinking
01:11:58here's Kudus
01:11:59goes for goal
01:12:01it's a thunderous finish
01:12:02from the
01:12:03Hamid Kudus
01:12:04Nunes
01:12:06into the box and in
01:12:07behind to put it
01:12:09across for the first
01:12:10goal to be scored
01:12:11Phil Foden gets it
01:12:13City go again
01:12:15Lucas Perry doesn't
01:12:16clear it
01:12:17and it's in for two
01:12:18Josko Gwardiol
01:12:21here's Tanaka
01:12:22through to Calvert-Lewin
01:12:24who tries to spin
01:12:25and he's got the
01:12:25chance again
01:12:26and he's taken it
01:12:28Calvert-Lewin again
01:12:31oh is that a risk
01:12:33it was a risk
01:12:34Leeds have got the
01:12:35penalty
01:12:35look at that
01:12:37nowhere near the
01:12:37ball
01:12:38saved by
01:12:41but it is straight
01:12:43back to Lucas
