00:01The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet 2 Holidays.
00:05Ahoy there, ladies!
00:08Stars from Britain's best-loved shows are jetting off for a holiday showdown.
00:13Is anyone else nervous? Yeah.
00:15Legends of Corrie, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here,
00:18Loose Women and The Chase are competing against their fellow castmates.
00:24Hey, no road rage, please.
00:26To prove they can deliver the best holiday adventure.
00:30You like that break a bit, do you watch? I'm not even pressing the break!
00:33Each famous face...
00:34Can we get back to coronation, please?
00:36O-M-G!
00:37DJ, destroy her!
00:39...will plan their dream day in the sun.
00:41We are Loose Women. Together we can do anything.
00:43And, at the end of the week...
00:46...they'll vote to decide who will be crowned the greatest escaper.
00:50Are we all thinking, I want to win? Yeah.
00:53Only one of us can be the greatest escaper.
00:56Who is it gonna be?
01:00Malta!
01:06The jewel of the Mediterranean.
01:09Blue skies, ancient ruins and a stunning coastline.
01:13The island is the perfect backdrop to crown this week's greatest escaper.
01:17Waiting in the wings are three lucky stars from the nation's favourite soap.
01:22Coronation Street.
01:25First to check in is Salford's finest.
01:28Good morning. Where are you flying to today?
01:30Malta.
01:31Malta.
01:32Corrie legend, Andy Wyman.
01:34My perfect day on a holiday, having a few drinks and then if there's a football game on, watch that out for Man United.
01:41There you go. Thank you.
01:42This is a competition and I like to say I am competitive. I think my day will be the best and hopefully I'll end up a winner.
01:50Also escaping the cobbles in search of that winning feeling is national treasure.
01:55That's the back gone. No, no, I'm kidding.
01:57Dame Maureen Lipman.
01:59I wouldn't dream of lying on a beach all day and just sunning myself. I'd much rather see the sights.
02:06You're playing from getting eating this one.
02:08I am competitive. I'll play dirty about it.
02:11The others will obviously think that mine was the best day.
02:14Hello, what time do you call this? Good to see you.
02:18And fashionably late to the contest is our final Great Escaper.
02:24Yeah, it's somewhere around here.
02:25One of Corrie's youngest stars, Tanisha Gorey.
02:29Buzzing. Can't wait to get there.
02:31I love a chill holiday, but although staying by the pool is lovely, I do think I want to see a little bit of what's going on around me.
02:37Which is very fancy.
02:39Technology.
02:40Everyone's idea of a perfect day is so different.
02:44I want to say I might have what it takes to win.
02:47Hello, darling.
02:48How are you doing?
02:49Hello.
02:50You OK?
02:51Looking forward to our little trip.
02:53Remember, what happens in Malta stays in Malta.
02:56Stays in Malta, right.
02:57Yeah.
02:58OK, well those shorts should stay in Malta.
03:02Take a selfie.
03:03It's a three and a half hour flight from the UK to Malta.
03:08Enjoying 300 days of sun a year, it's one of the sunniest countries in Europe.
03:13Well, this is very posh.
03:15Bit too posh for me.
03:17Battle lines drawn.
03:19And the hatch.
03:20The gang prepare for the biggest showdown since the Rovers put up the price of a pint.
03:26Your day tomorrow.
03:27It is my day.
03:28Big day.
03:29Big day.
03:30I've got a feeling your day is going to be not something that I would certainly do.
03:34What, the strip club is not going to appeal to you?
03:36Oh!
03:37I think it would, you know.
03:38I'm running.
03:39Obviously, the A's cap as well.
03:41Cheeky.
03:42No, no.
03:43Ever.
03:44She's not that young.
03:45But that's what I mean.
03:47That's what's going to be so interesting.
03:49First to tomorrow.
03:50I mean, because Wednesday we won't be speaking, we'll be telling myself.
03:54It's day one of the competition.
03:59And like true Brits abroad, Andy and Tanisha have played it safe at the buffet.
04:04Cup of tea.
04:05Cup of tea.
04:06What more can you ask for?
04:07And a croissant.
04:08A croissant.
04:09A pan of chocolat.
04:10While Andy gets to grips with a continental breakfast.
04:14Morning.
04:15Good morning.
04:16Maureen has a date with customer helper Gio to help her plan a more cosmopolitan day.
04:21OK, so here, because I know it's historic, I would like to see the main sites of Malta
04:28and understand the influences, really.
04:31I wouldn't want to have been walking all day.
04:33Is there modes of transport to save my feet?
04:36So I've got these fabulous little buggies that you can hire.
04:39Take you around, see some of the sites.
04:41What do you think Maureen's got it in store for us?
04:44She'll have a bit of walking, a bit of facts learning, a bit of history.
04:48No, I don't mind walking.
04:49What, in your sliders?
04:51There's nothing more comfortable than sliders.
04:53From the plain, this is the most extraordinary sight, isn't it?
04:57Absolutely.
04:58So I think you can't obviously get that from being on Malta, but you could certainly get it on a boat.
05:04If you want the kind of breeze and you want the best vantage point, I mean, look at where we are.
05:07The sea's absolutely, absolutely gorgeous out there.
05:10So we do have, as well, gondolas.
05:14Do you?
05:15Absolutely.
05:16So you could...
05:17Maltese gondola?
05:18Yes.
05:19Like a Malteser?
05:20I'm worried it's going to be my idea of help.
05:22If I'm not enjoying myself, I'd say you'll probably be able to start by my face anyway.
05:26Great.
05:27If only life were always like this, you know.
05:29I think he got all the right notes about, you know, don't walk me for 18 miles uphill because you don't want to...
05:36You know, a cadaver is not a good thing to have.
05:39So this is the start of what we in show business call the Winning Day.
05:45Maureen is kicking off her Winning Day in the medieval city of Birgu, perched just across Malta's Grand Harbour from the capital, Valletta,
05:53where she'll be combining her love of history with low step counts.
05:57Oh!
05:58Oh, look at this!
06:00Are we going in?
06:01This for you, darling, so you can...
06:03You're getting in the back.
06:04You can sit in the back.
06:05Armed with a handbag full of wiki printouts, Maureen's hired a self-drive tuk-tuk that can double up as a mobile library.
06:13I like a working holiday.
06:15I like romance and history, so I'm trying to shoehorn in culture.
06:20I think it'll work fine, and I think they will rise to the post.
06:25Have you ever done the dodgums, Andy?
06:26Yeah, I have.
06:27There you go. You'll be all right, then.
06:28The dodgums?
06:29Yeah.
06:30Oh!
06:31You can't even see if I fell off the back!
06:33Are you all right, then?
06:35Yeah, I'm all right.
06:38Are you all right going backwards?
06:39No, I'm not.
06:40No, Andy, I'm not all right going backwards, to be honest.
06:42Keep going!
06:43I'm going to see you throwing up on the back.
06:44He was ragging me around in the back.
06:46It was awful.
06:47I thought I'm going to fall out of it.
06:49I felt a bit sick.
06:50It wasn't great.
06:51Look in the wall underneath, and you'll see lots of bullet holes with a cannonball.
06:56Oh, wow, it'll feel great.
06:57That'll take your mind off your belly.
06:59Yeah, don't worry about your belly.
07:00Right, you like that brake a bit too much.
07:02I'm not even pressing the brake.
07:04It's just the accelerator.
07:08Going left, yeah.
07:09What do you mean?
07:10We're going left.
07:11We're going left.
07:12Oh, oh.
07:13Thank you very much.
07:15Safety belt's just cut off my left breast, so I'll be like...
07:19It's going to be something historical, something like that with Maureen.
07:22Anything history, it's probably going to bore me.
07:24This particular island that we are on has been invaded more times than Jerusalem.
07:30It's got influences, and I'm not talking about, you know, tick-tock.
07:34This is tuk-tuk.
07:36The tick-tock tuk-tuk.
07:38These influences included the Order of St John, a religious and military group granted Malta in the 16th century.
07:45They were given this place by King Charles V.
07:48He gave them Tripoli, Malta, and he gave them Gozo.
07:52Right.
07:53In exchange for what?
07:54Does anybody know?
07:55A melon.
07:56A falcon.
07:57A falcon?
07:58Oh, a Maltese falcon.
08:00Ah, there you go.
08:01I can't lie.
08:02I'm not one for history.
08:03That is not me.
08:04Manners!
08:05Whoa!
08:08We're from England.
08:11I think I might have been sick in my mouth a little bit.
08:13She didn't actually vomit on her friends.
08:17You've got to be grateful for small mercies, really.
08:19So then we had the British coming in and getting rid of the French.
08:24Malta gained independence in 1964, but they've kept the British shop signs and street furniture.
08:31British post box there.
08:33Isn't that her?
08:34Oh, yeah.
08:35British post box.
08:36Oh, yeah.
08:37We left all the good things.
08:38I wasn't feeling too great in the back of that, but Maureen told us everything on the tour.
08:41She loves it.
08:42She's brilliant.
08:43I really, really enjoyed that.
08:46Well, put it there, mate.
08:47Don't give it...
08:48Oh, there you go.
08:49You did me there.
08:50Seriously.
08:51You did me there.
08:52I've got to be honest.
08:53History and all that kind of thing, not for me.
08:56But driving the electric coal, for y'all, whatever you want to call it, is amazing.
09:01I'm worried now.
09:02I think she could have pulled it out of the bag.
09:04I think you've definitely pulled it out of the bag, Maureen.
09:06I was concerned that I didn't have enough information to really arouse your curiosity, both of you.
09:12Mm.
09:13Yeah.
09:14Well, I'm glad that I didn't drive.
09:15Definitely.
09:16Have you ever drove a bra before, Maureen?
09:18I have driven in Zakintos, and I had to drive because it was the first holiday I'd ever gone on alone because my husband had died.
09:27And I was very scared, even just to drive to the shops on the wrong side of the road.
09:32Mm.
09:33Just a bit sort of angry.
09:35Really?
09:36Yes, you do get angry when someone dies, you know.
09:39Yeah.
09:40But there was a great sense of achievement.
09:43Everyone was a bit worried about me.
09:45After Zak died, and I was in such a state, but I was so proud of myself that I had achieved a holiday and looking after myself.
09:56I came back like a kind of footballer going, yes, I did it.
10:01You have to challenge yourself in life and just keep going.
10:05But then I found someone else to lean on.
10:07I just went on a circuit of marriage and happiness and children and then came back.
10:14I'm with my partner now, David, and I've moved in and thinking about getting married.
10:19Thank you for sharing that story, Maureen.
10:21Thank you, Maureen.
10:22It was really nice how Maureen opened up about her past, because obviously, see, we don't really get to see that side of her at work.
10:28Just to get to know her a bit more as Maureen Littman is really, really nice.
10:32Green, green, green, green after our first activity.
10:35Maureen's day is going fantastic.
10:37And I think I'm a little bit worried now about mine.
10:40The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet 2 Holidays.
10:55Three of Corrie's finest are on holiday in Malta, but it's a trip with a twist, as they compete with their co-stars to put on the best day, before deciding who's the winner at the end of the week.
11:21Today, Maureen Littman is in charge, and she's brought the gang to the Grand Harbour, where she's bringing out the big guns to impress.
11:31Oh! That'll be it. That's your gun salute.
11:36A tradition since the 19th century, Malta's twice-daily gun salute helped ship captains keep the correct time.
11:43Taking you now on something a little more romantic, a different view of Malta, perhaps.
11:51Maureen is hoping to seduce her co-stars by making the harbour crossing to the Maltese capital, Valletta, on a traditional gondola.
12:00Very romantic.
12:05I like the trappings of romance, so it'll be interesting to see what the young ones think of my rather sedate choice.
12:14Oh!
12:20Oh, we're so close to the world.
12:22Behind you, that is the fortified city of Valletta, which became the capital.
12:30I always think it's such a lovely thing to come into a city from the sea.
12:34Can't beat it.
12:35Yeah.
12:36Very romantic.
12:39Oh, there's a swell here, there's a swell. It was a good idea to put these swim shorts on.
12:42I don't like the sea.
12:44I really don't like the sea.
12:45I wasn't a fan of how close we physically were to the water, and I was feeling a little bit seasick when it got a bit rocky.
12:52Can I meet? Woo!
12:53There goes my sobbing hat.
12:54Oh, no!
12:58I did watch it drown, and I liked that hat. It was particularly fine with this outfit.
13:04I do feel a bit more like I should be on a gondola with my wife, cos they are quite romantic.
13:09I think all kinds of different vehicles are, you know, a train is very romantic.
13:16So it was on a train that David told me that it was a particular day in the Jewett calendar where a woman can ask a man to marry.
13:26So we were sitting with a table between us, and I just slid down.
13:30You slid down under the table?
13:32Yeah, it's not what you think.
13:33And I said, will you marry me?
13:34He said, yes.
13:35I couldn't get out.
13:36Before you could...
13:37No, I mean, I couldn't get back out from under the table.
13:42What's a romantic proposal?
13:44Arse first, like, you know, like, couldn't I get out?
13:51I've lived with the consequences of that since, because wherever I go, there are people saying, when's the happy day?
13:59So it's made me a bit scared of the happy day.
14:02We're in Valletta.
14:03The gondola has taken the gang across the harbour to the fortified city of Valletta.
14:09As well as being one of Europe's smallest capitals, it's also one of the hilliest.
14:15You need some oxygen at the top of here.
14:18I am feeling a bit out of breath, you know, Andy.
14:21Wow.
14:22Can we get back to Coronation Street, please?
14:24Oh.
14:25I forget that I'm going to be 80 next year, although the newspapers don't.
14:30Maureen Lipman's 79.
14:32Many, many steps later, a flustered Team Corrie eventually reach Upper Baraka Gardens,
14:38one of Valletta's highest points, and the spot for Maureen's final cultural activity.
14:43At least there's somewhere to sit down.
14:53So, my children, I brought you to the square to see some traditional Maltese dancing.
14:58It's a peasant dance from the furthest.
15:02I never get to dance.
15:03I never had a man friend who danced.
15:09My husband was older.
15:10Dance was not his thing.
15:13Go on, you get off.
15:14Oh, I think my sliders will go on with this.
15:16I've learnt flamenco in my time, I've learnt tango, but I don't have an opportunity to use them.
15:23Woo!
15:26Bravo!
15:27Amazing.
15:28Do you like to dance?
15:29Yes, yes, we'd love to, wouldn't we?
15:31Come on.
15:32I can't do the smitty bit.
15:33I'm going to be okay doing this in sliders.
15:35Yeah.
15:36Yeah.
15:37So, what we'll be doing is we'll be going round.
15:39Oh!
15:40Yay!
15:41Going to your face, don't worry.
15:43Okay, okay.
15:44Here we go.
15:45Oh, okay.
15:46I've got an idea.
15:47It's been a surreal day.
15:48I did not expect the day to end like that.
15:50No, I didn't.
15:51I did not expect for us to all be dancing together.
15:53Yeah.
15:54What a way to end it.
15:55What a brilliant way.
15:56Perfect.
15:57It's been gorgeous, I think.
15:58I think it's really brought us together.
15:59It's been a really, really lovely day.
16:00That's so odd.
16:01I love that, Maureen.
16:02Woo!
16:03We're going into the video now.
16:04Go on, Maureen.
16:05Oh, so sorry.
16:06Yay!
16:07Thank you very much.
16:08I've passed the age of...
16:13You know, you can't do it.
16:18You can't do it.
16:19You just look like a tit.
16:20So, it's good to have some steps.
16:23So, that was lovely.
16:24I've got to say, I was worried about your day, Maureen.
16:28But I've got to be honest, I've had a fantastic time.
16:31Have you?
16:32I have too.
16:33Me too.
16:34I think we have bonded today.
16:35Obviously, we're all at different times in our lives.
16:37We all have different experiences.
16:38We all like different things.
16:40But at the same time, I do think there's a bit of common ground
16:42for the three of us.
16:43The end of my day.
16:50It's day two of the competition,
16:52and it's Tanisha's turn to show her co-stars a good time.
16:55But with today's host still feeling queasy from yesterday's rocky rides,
16:59she's planning something more stationary.
17:02I'm wanting to book a day, a perfect day.
17:05So, a couple of activities, just doing what's really lovely in Malta.
17:08Something a bit, you know, arts and crafts-y.
17:11Well, we can absolutely do something along those lines then.
17:14I'm thinking maybe a glassblowing class.
17:16And we'll be able to get involved and we'll be able to...
17:17100%.
17:18100% you can get involved.
17:19Amazing.
17:20I've seen it myself.
17:21Get me in the furnace.
17:22Absolutely, absolutely.
17:23You'll want to get hands-on with it.
17:24Do you think that Tanisha is confident about the day she's providing for us?
17:31To be honest, I think because your day went so well yesterday,
17:35I think you've made her nervous about her day today.
17:37Also thinking...
17:38Yep.
17:39..I don't cook very much and I'm not a very good cook.
17:41OK.
17:42If that's something you want to do,
17:43we can absolutely arrange a cooking class, you know,
17:45just do exactly that, pretty much.
17:46That's what I like to hear.
17:47Yeah?
17:48One last thing, if you can help me out.
17:49Absolutely.
17:50So I'm wanting to get Maureen started on a little bit of social media.
17:54So I'm really wanting somewhere picturesque.
17:56I've got a suggestion for you.
17:57OK.
17:58So it's a place called Medina.
18:00You know, you're going to walk in and you do feel like you've just walked into a film set.
18:03Thank you so much.
18:05Not at all.
18:14Here we are, guys.
18:15Right.
18:16Oh, Medina class handmade.
18:21Arts and craft isn't really a thing for me, but this could be different.
18:25Lick your lips before you blow it.
18:27Lick your lips before you blow it?
18:29Is that the, er...
18:30That's all we need to do, Maureen?
18:32The gang also need a red-hot furnace and molten glass
18:36before competing to see who is full of the most hot air.
18:40I grew up doing a lot of arts and crafts with my grandparents,
18:43so this is a little bit close to home.
18:45It's anything like arts and crafty type thing.
18:47I've never been any good at that.
18:49Oh, my God.
18:51How hot is it in here?
18:53Now this is what I want my shower temperature to be.
18:57Would you like to try?
18:59I'm scared.
19:02Before testing their lung capacity, a lung pipe picks up molten glass.
19:06So this is the clear glass, OK?
19:08OK.
19:09And we are going to apply coloured glass now.
19:10OK.
19:11Then dipped in coloured shards.
19:13Bit like sherbet.
19:14Now we're warming it up.
19:15Basically what we're doing is we're warming up the colour
19:18so that it melts into the transparent glass, OK?
19:21OK.
19:25I'm going to shape it here.
19:28Oh, my!
19:31I grew up a lot with my grandparents because my mum was a single mum
19:33so she was at work a lot.
19:34So I grew up with...
19:35I was literally always at my grandparents.
19:36Always doing everything.
19:37Arts and crafts.
19:38I just love it.
19:39When I say stop, let me stop.
19:41Yeah.
19:42It's OK?
19:43Yeah?
19:44Oh, well blown.
19:45Well blown.
19:48No, basically he's going to open it into a bowl, OK?
19:50Like that.
19:51Oh, wow.
19:53Oh, my God.
19:54That's amazing.
19:57So you just hold the pipe from here and try and roll it over like this.
20:00I'm a little bit nervous, more so, of Andy and Maury absolutely hating it.
20:06OK.
20:10I think she'd think, what the hell is he doing?
20:13It was a bit hot in there.
20:14If I'm honest, like, I'm not really into it.
20:17Slowly.
20:19That's it, that's it, that's it, that's it.
20:20Felt like I was right next to the sun, it was that hot.
20:26We make a bowl out of this, OK?
20:27Yeah.
20:28Out of bowls.
20:30In my head, it's lilac and purple.
20:32At the moment, it's red and it's banged.
20:35Like myself.
20:37Well, let's get out of here, it's absolutely roasted.
20:40I think if you do something indigenous
20:42and you learn something in the day,
20:44then it's a day well spent.
20:46When we was making the glass ourselves,
20:48we were quite clumsy,
20:49so I'm quite happy that I've come out there unscathed.
20:51We all had a good blow, didn't we?
20:52We had a good blow.
20:53I've given us all something to take home,
20:56so it's a win-win for me, I think.
20:58So what made you want to do that, then?
20:59When I was younger, my amazing mother,
21:01she was a young mum, she was 19,
21:03and she was working constantly to provide for us.
21:06So my grandparents, I was with them a lot,
21:08and my grandad loves his arts and crafts.
21:10He's very good at it.
21:11Right.
21:12So keeping me occupied at the weekend,
21:14we would always be building something, you know, boxes, crafts.
21:17Yeah, so it was a really nice childhood memory, memory of that.
21:20I think being around them so much of my younger life,
21:23I do think I can relate quite a lot to how to get on with the older generation.
21:27They do say that friends are God's apology for relatives,
21:30but your family, your family is so important.
21:33Yeah, it really is.
21:34Isn't it?
21:35Yeah.
21:36Yeah, it was nice to hear Tanisha's story about being brought up by her grandparents.
21:39I've worked with her for a long time,
21:40but we don't really speak about stuff like that at work,
21:42so just to hear her speak about grandparents like that was really nice.

22:39The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet 2 Holidays.
22:43Three Corrie legends are in Malta, where co-stars have become rivals as they compete for the title of Greatest Escaper.
22:52They'll vote for the winner at the end of the week.
22:55Tanisha is in charge today, and she's brought the gang to Imdina, a 30-minute drive inland from the capital, Valletta.
23:04for the title of Greatest Escaper.
23:06They'll vote for the winner at the end of the week.
23:10Tanisha is in charge today, and she's brought the gang
23:13to Imdina, a 30 minute drive inland
23:15from the capital, Valletta.
23:18Despite having just 250 residents,
23:20it's the oldest city in Malta,
23:22and has seen even more drama than The Rovers Return.
23:26Here we are, guys.
23:28Okay.
23:28Welcome.
23:29A lot of very, very famous shows are filmed here.
23:32We've got Game of Thrones.
23:34Gladiators, that's the other one.
23:35Oh, I'm sorry.
23:36No, no, Gladiator.
23:37No, Gladiator.
23:38No, Gladiator is a TV show.
23:39Gladiator is a TV show.
23:40There's more than one.
23:42More than one.
23:42There's no shadow or wolf here.
23:44Brilliant.
23:45As one of Europe's most impressive walled cities,
23:48Imdina is a major tourist hotspot,
23:51and these ancient streets have witnessed knights, nobles,
23:54and those Game of Thrones dragons.
23:56But today is the backdrop to a different kind of battle,
23:59to be crowned the Greatest Escaper.
24:02So, I brought us here because some people say
24:05this is the most Instagrammable place in the world.
24:08Well, I'm on Instagram.
24:09Maureen, however, is not yet.
24:12Yet?
24:14Keyword yet.
24:15Why would I want to put my dinner on a picture
24:19and send it to people I don't know?
24:21Well, that's the point.
24:21It's not dinner, it's you.
24:22You're fabulous.
24:23Right, let's go.
24:24Let's go.
24:25Say no on the inside of the bridge as well as the outside.
24:27Rather than the outside.
24:27Yeah, that's true.
24:28Perfect, just what we like to hear.
24:30I am chronically on my phone, like, really, really, really bad,
24:34so I think I'm going to try and get her on a little bit of social media,
24:37and get her a little nice profile picture going on,
24:38get her posting some stories.
24:39She has a great fashion sense.
24:41Great hair.
24:42Go on, then.
24:43This is a big moment in Maureen.
24:45Right.
24:46No, no, this is the biggest moment.
24:49Add a profile picture.
24:51Can you look at the camera?
24:53So then I won't have a profile, will I?
24:55No.
25:01That's perfect.
25:02That's fantastic.
25:02Brilliant, there we go, we got there.
25:04I presume we're not going in the Natural History Museum.
25:07It's a medina.
25:08It was a former capital.
25:10The St. Peter's Monastery.
25:12There is antiquity.
25:15So they want me to go on, to be on Instagram.
25:18I don't see it, because why don't I just take a picture and send it?
25:24There you go.
25:25You look fabulous, OK?
25:27Look, you've got no followers, because she's not letting anyone follow you.
25:29Does anyone like to follow me?
25:31I'm following you.
25:32Walk this way.
25:33I'll follow you, Maureen.
25:35Did she have a gin and tea at lunch?
25:37Or three?
25:39Or five?
25:39Oh, a nice perch.
25:41That's lovely.
25:42That's beautiful.
25:43There you go.
25:44Oh, Maureen.
25:45That is gorgeous.
25:46It's really quiet down here, isn't it?
25:50Nicknamed the Silent City, Imdina became a ghost town after losing its capital status
25:55to Valletta in the 16th century.
25:57And it's still pretty tranquil today.
25:58Maureen, this is no good.
25:59Can we just get in the back of your head?
26:00Maureen?
26:01Pull up.
26:02One.
26:03Now, can we go somewhere interesting?
26:04I mean, this is interesting, really interesting, but we're not seeing it because of farting
26:05about.
26:06If I'm honest, I can't see Maureen starting taking pictures of anything important on Instagram.
26:21OK, I've got 11 friends.
26:22So what I'm going to do, I'm going to go in the shop, I'm going to buy 11 postcards.
26:26I am going to write, I had ravioli for my lunch.
26:30If only there was a quicker way to share holiday memories.
26:34These are painted.
26:35Maureen's just been...
26:37She's just gone to another level.
26:40Right, the postcards now.
26:41Thank you very much.
26:45I'm having a lovely time here in Medina on holiday in Malta.
26:49The weather is clement.
26:51I am not sunbathing and not sleeping, but I am still fat.
26:55She's going right now.
26:57She's going home on Friday.
26:59I mean, they probably haven't got it until next week.
27:02Oh, I feel very excited because now I can post pictures of my bum.
27:09On the plus side, we've seen some great history.
27:14And you could also say you've got an ology in social media.
27:20This is the final bit of my day.
27:27Where are we?
27:28After the chaos of Medina, Tanisha has brought the gang to the sleepy village of Attard.
27:33Andy, don't forget the dame.
27:35No, it's all right. I'll be fine.
27:36No, come on. Sorry, Maureen. Come on, love.
27:38There you go. Come on.
27:40Whose house is this?
27:43Well, we'll find out.
27:44We are going to do a cooking class.
27:47How do we do any cooking at home?
27:49Well, you're going to do it here.
27:51Moving out young, it's a learning experience.
27:54As an adult cooking at home, I'm really trying to widen my horizon, see what's going on.
28:00So I am excited for it. I really hope they like it as well.
28:04In a break from the usual fare at Roy's Rolls, Tanisha has organised a foodie class at the home of esteemed Maltese cook, Pippa Martai.
28:14Hi. Hello.
28:15Hello.
28:16Come in. Welcome to my kitchen.
28:18Thank you. Thank you very much.
28:20This is just a simple recipe that I'm doing. It's an aliotta, which is a Maltese fish soup, Mediterranean fish soup.
28:28Normally, I'd been to... I like my homemade English food, but I like it.
28:33But I was like, going to the chipper, just giving me something big.
28:36So shall we get cracking? Yeah, let's get cracking.
28:39OK. So what I would like is a little bit of chopped onion.
28:43Peas have to be quartered.
28:46Glad I've got the tomatoes anyway, not the garlic.
28:49That's fine. Probably not chopping my finger off.
28:51Tanisha, do you do any cooking at home?
28:53I moved out quite young, and I didn't know what I was doing.
28:57You know, you have to learn. You have to just figure it out.
29:00I try and it fails, but when it goes really good, I have this... I feel very proud of myself.
29:04My husband was a very good cook, and my partner's a very good cook, and now...
29:09So you're all right. I've been very lucky with my men.
29:13I make a mean pasta that comes in a bag with a sauce that comes in a tin.
29:18Certainly did not think I'd end up in a kitchen, in a cookery class, making a fish maltese soup.
29:25Never. It's like, not for me.
29:28So, garlic, onion and tomatoes have gone in, and now the fish goes in.
29:34Now we need some herbs, quite important.
29:38It's a learning experience. I think Frandy, out of most of us, because he doesn't do the cooking at home.
29:44And then just let it simmer.
29:46And, yes, that is it.
29:51What's your food?
29:52Well, growing up, my mum's very traditional English.
29:55Yeah.
29:56So we'd have, like, potato rash, egg chips and beans, things like that.
30:01It's casseroles. Here she comes. Oh, wow.
30:04And Maureen's that excited.
30:06This is going out to my three or four friends who would have had a postcard.
30:10My children. I'll give this one some more.
30:11Oh, OK. And I'll pass over.
30:13I'm going to eat like a horse and no doubt look like one when I leave.
30:17Bon appetit.
30:18Bon appetit. Thank you very much.
30:19Mmm.
30:20Beautiful. Very delicate.
30:22This is a good one.
30:23This will be very hard for Andy to top.
30:25You did well, kid.
30:26That's just a great thing to do on holiday.
30:29But it's not quite everyone's meat and tooth edge.
30:32Got a lovely bone.
30:33Do you want some more?
30:34I'm all right, thank you.
30:35I'm paying myself for a steak.
30:37It's just for me, like...
30:38She's put the whole fish in there, so the eyes are in there and everything.
30:42You know, me, this kind of, like, put me off a little bit.
30:46So you moved out from your home?
30:48Just turned 18, I was.
30:50I lived with my grandparents for two years, and now I live with Lucas.
30:52Do you think Lucas is the one?
30:54Lucas is the one. Of course he is.
30:56Is there a moment, Andy, where you knew Nick was the one?
30:58As soon as I got with her, I just kind of...
31:01I just got this feeling that she was the right one for me.
31:05She's just the perfect lady.
31:07She always have to mean...
31:08I'll cry.
31:09I'll look after her.
31:10Don't cry.
31:11I just feel very, very lucky that...
31:13I met someone like Nick.
31:14Oh, I see!
31:15Cos who else would have you, let's say.
31:17Who else would have you?
31:18And she's an amazing mum.
31:20I get really emotional when people are so, like,
31:23open about the people that they love and I don't know why.
31:28I just think it was really lovely.
31:30You know, the way that we all speak about our lives
31:33and our partners and how grateful we all are.
31:35I do think we have a lot more common ground
31:37than we might have thought.
31:39But it's been really nice.
31:41I really enjoyed it.
31:42Cheers.
31:43She's an impressive girl.
31:46This day is fabulous.
31:53Now Maureen and Tanisha's days are done and dusted.
31:56It's all sunshine, snacks and suspiciously coordinated outfits.
32:00I have so much admiration for you for yesterday
32:03that I've actually dressed as you today.
32:05Well, this is it and we didn't even plan it.
32:07No, it's like women in a grunge.
32:08I love that.
32:09We just think...
32:10Glasses, earrings, hands.
32:13Andy, who clearly didn't get the matchy-matchy memo,
32:16is keen to pull out all the stops today.
32:20See, the last couple of days have been, like, good,
32:22but it's been very, very cultural.
32:24Yeah.
32:25I want to have a bit of fun.
32:26I want to get on the water.
32:27I love being on the water, so...
32:28Have you ever driven a vessel before?
32:30I would love to have captain me own boat.
32:32So there's a great little company here
32:33that actually hires out little speedboats, if you like.
32:35Oh, brilliant.
32:36Yeah, yeah.
32:37What do we think Andy's going to do?
32:38I noticed the scuba-diving machine thing.
32:40You know, I'm not great on the water.
32:42I want to hear it and not feel it.
32:43I don't think I'd go in the sea.
32:45I'm too frightened of things.
32:47So Maureen got some traditional Maltese dancers,
32:49but I'm after something a bit more modern.
32:51I actually know the perfect place, Andy.
32:53I might have stumbled there myself on my night off.
32:55So, from experience, I can definitely tell you it's fabulous.
32:58Leave that with me.
32:59I'll get that sorted for you.
33:00Hoping he's on to a winner,
33:02Andy's asked Maureen and Tanisha to meet him at St George's Bay.
33:05It's a 20-minute drive from Valletta
33:07along Malta's rugged north-east coast,
33:09a popular spot for beach clubs and water sports,
33:11right up their streets.
33:16Oh, God, look.
33:17Look.
33:18Ahoy there, ladies!
33:20Hello.
33:21Can we have a ride with Captain Andy?
33:23Andy.
33:24Oh, Captain Andy!
33:25Captain, what are you wearing?
33:27Ta-da!
33:28Are we on that really rocky boat behind him?
33:30Yes.
33:31You'll be all right.
33:32You'll be all right.
33:33I saw it and wasn't a fan.
33:34Of course it's going to be a boat.
33:35Of course it is.
33:36It's Andy.
33:37We've done all the cultural stuff,
33:38and today is all about having fun.
33:41I love me cruising.
33:43I never ever get to be a captain of a cruise ship.
33:45What's a day?
33:46Mm-hmm.
33:47I get to be a captain!
33:48When it comes to, like, holidays,
33:49anything on the water, I quite enjoy.
33:52Come on, Maureen, let me help you on.
33:54Right.
33:55Bandwidth for me is everything.
33:56Making memories is most important to us.
34:00I'm not doing very well here.
34:02Are we stuck?
34:03It's not going into reverse.
34:05We're stuck, aren't we?
34:08Despite wanting to show the girls a good time,
34:11things are off to a rocky start for Captain Andy.
34:14Are we going to crash?
34:15No, no.
34:16We're going to crash into one of these boats.
34:20Captain Andy.
34:21I won't say he was the best captain in the world.
34:23I thought he was going to crash into the jetty.
34:25Erm...
34:26I need to go back again there,
34:27and then we'll be all right.
34:30There you go.
34:31Right, here we go, guys.
34:32Yeah.
34:36This is your Captain Andrew speaking.
34:38What is the weather report for today, Captain?
34:41It looks very clear.
34:45Oh!
34:48How quick are we going to go?
34:49Yeah, I'm not too sure.
34:51All right.
34:52Oh, we're going out to the sea?
34:53I'm not going to be going full, yeah.
34:54I think we're going to the left.
34:55All right.
34:56I feel like I'm having a shower.
34:59I felt a bit sick.
35:00I was a little bit scared.
35:01I thought it was going to end up with him wanting us in the sea,
35:04and that is what I was most nervous for.
35:06What do you think, Laurie?
35:07I'm not really thinking at present, Andy.
35:09I'm just praying.
35:10This is really nice, Andy.
35:11You're praying?
35:15Can you hear me now?
35:16I'm on board.
35:17HMS, frightened to death.
35:19I'm not that bad, Laurie.
35:21No, you're fine, you're fine.
35:22I'm not that bad.
35:32What is it that draws you to the sea?
35:34You're a Manchester lad.
35:35Yeah, well, to be honest, we went on our first cruise in 2016,
35:40and we absolutely loved it.
35:41In a week, you can go to, like, four different countries.
35:44Obviously, it's getting nice weather, you get lovely food,
35:46and on the ones that we go on the swims,
35:48I've got slides for the kids.
35:49Yeah.
35:50There's just so much to do.
35:51Yeah.
35:52It really is like a floating hotel.
35:53I do admire Andy.
35:55I sound like a lovey, forgive me, but he's sort of sorted.
35:58He's got his wife and his kids.
36:00He's a lovely lad.
36:01I've got to get in the water and have a bit of a dip.
36:03Denise, do you fancy getting in and having a lot of swim?
36:06The sea really makes me nervous.
36:07Does it?
36:15I used to say I've been in the water and I've been for a swim.
36:18I'm really not a fan of going in the sea.
36:20It is the fact that you can't touch the floor,
36:22and if you can touch the floor, I don't know what's around me.
36:24Oh, your heart is literally pounding now.
36:27I'm going to get in.
36:28OK, right, I'm going to pound three really, really quickly and get in.
36:31Three, two, one!
36:33I'm glad that I did it. It was an achievement.
36:38Wait a minute.
36:40It's the security of it, isn't it?
36:43Let's just...
36:44People do this.
36:45Oh, boys!
36:47I had no idea if I was going to get in or not.
36:49I mean, it seems like absolutely nothing,
36:51but I'm not a good swimmer.
36:53I am either 78 or 79, I've forgotten.
36:56Thank you very much.
36:57I hope you've enjoyed my first part of the day.
36:59No, not very much, no.
37:01No?
37:02It's lovely, refreshing.
37:03So, yeah, I'm quite pleased with myself about that.
37:05I'm not a very brave person.
37:11Don't think we've forgotten about you at home,
37:13because you could also be in with a chance
37:15to win a seven-night holiday to Malta,
37:17courtesy of Jet2 Holidays.
37:20We're also throwing in £3,000 spending money, too.
37:24To enter for free, go to the website before 3pm on Friday.
37:28You must be 18 or over.
37:30Good luck!
37:31Hiking or mountain biking?
37:40Darling, hold my hand!
37:43The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet2 Holidays.
37:46Beach Funday or Ice Cream Sunday?
37:49Darling, hold my hand!
37:52The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet2 Holidays.
38:02Three Corrie favourites have swapped Weatherfield for Malta,
38:05where they're trying to outdo each other to put on the best holiday adventure.
38:09Today, host Andy is hitting the tourist town of Sleema,
38:13just 15 minutes from Valletta, for some gift shopping,
38:16which is in no way a bribe for votes.
38:20I always like to buy something when I'm on the holiday,
38:22so I've got to get Maureen a present, and I think tomorrow.
38:25I don't remember starting discussing whose day was the best.
38:27Hopefully it'll be mine.
38:31So what I want to do is I just want to go into a shop,
38:33get Maureen a nice little present.
38:35Wow, OK.
38:36I'm talking this one. This one looks all right.
38:38Oh, look at these.
38:41Vacation?
38:42No, get away from that, Andy.
38:43That's no.
38:44OK.
38:45We're not doing that.
38:46I do like that one, but if Maureen...
38:48It's £5.
38:49That's not bad, that.
38:50But if Maureen's wearing that,
38:51she just knows she's going to keep standing next to me.
38:53What do you think of this?
38:54Because we know that she likes a tipple.
38:56Andy, that's awful.
38:57It's awful, right?
38:58I hope that's awful.
39:03This is the one.
39:04What happens in Malta stays in Malta.
39:06Yeah?
39:07I think of her that.
39:08She'll be very, very happy with it.
39:09As well as being a great spot for shopping,
39:11the Sleema Promenade also gives uninterrupted views of the letter.
39:16It's amazing.
39:17A view often seen on a postcard.
39:20Not many seaside resorts.
39:21I'll give you that.
39:23Certainly not Bridlington.
39:29Hello, Maureen.
39:30While you've been busy taking selfies, you and Tanisha have been shopping.
39:33Have you now?
39:34This is for you, Maureen.
39:35And I would like you to wear it with pride.
39:38With pride?
39:39With pride.
39:40Look at her.
39:41There it is.
39:42Maureen.
39:43Wow.
39:44You're an absolute star.
39:45Look at it.
39:46I knew you'd like it.
39:47A vision in pink.
39:48I knew you'd like it.
39:49It's lovely that you should buy me anything, let alone anything as exquisite as this.
39:55Go with the flow, you know.
39:57These are gorgeous people and they've wasted a whole afternoon.
40:02In the words of Mel Brooks, you can improve on perfection.
40:07So I've got one more surprise for you.
40:09Is it something cultural?
40:11Unfortunately not.
40:13But I think you're going to enjoy yourself.
40:15Shall we go?
40:16Let's go.
40:17It's extraordinary that in three days you can feel so close to people.
40:23Are you?
40:24Just new.
40:25As in a morning, do you have a brew?
40:28Yeah.
40:29Nice.
40:30A very salubrious area here.
40:32It is.
40:33Beginning to...
40:34Do you know what?
40:35I really, really feel like a drink.
40:38So if you take a seat ladies, tell me what you want to drink.
40:43What are you having?
40:44Something strong.
40:45While Andy's hoping his final activity will see him win the title, Maureen is planning her own
40:51great escape.
40:52So do you not want to be here?
40:55I don't know.
40:56I'm just admiring the plastic foliage.
40:58Such a snob.
41:00Is this not your vibe?
41:01I don't know.
41:02I'll, you know, I'll give it the time of day.
41:04Here we go ladies.
41:05Oh, here's the main map.
41:06Wow.
41:07I'm sorry they didn't have any champagne books.
41:08Oh, it'll do.
41:09I've got you a parrot punch.
41:11What is that?
41:13Cheers.
41:14Cheers.
41:15And I don't want to sound like a spoilt brat, but late night bopping.
41:20It's not a natural state for me, put it that way.
41:22What you might not know about me, the last two years of high school and college, I used
41:27to go busking in Manchester to earn a bit of dinner money for college and stuff.
41:31Did you?
41:32Yeah, yeah.
41:33I can just picture a small Andy.
41:35Yeah.
41:36The mad thing was, a couple of lads came up to us and said, we're in a band.
41:39Would you like to join them?
41:40We actually had about, probably had about 20 of our own songs.
41:44Wow.
41:45But we never, unfortunately we never got signed.
41:47So that's when I just thought, I need to just concentrate on my acting now.
41:50So, top and tail of it is, this pub happens to have karaoke.
41:54Oh, shock, horror.
41:55So I thought we'd have a drink.
41:57Yeah, I love it.
41:58We'd go inside and have a little sing on the karaoke.
42:00What do you reckon?
42:01How about you sing first, second and third?
42:04Remember?
42:05Yeah.
42:06What happens in Malta stays in Malta.
42:08Stays in Malta.
42:09Don't forget the rest of your drink.
42:10Oh, don't worry.
42:12I will need something very strong to get me through this, Andy.
42:15There we go.
42:17Oh, yes!
42:18Oh, happy day!
42:21You know, there's a lot going on in that man.
42:24He's full of soul.
42:26Andy's turn!
42:27Andy!
42:28Oh, here he is!
42:29What's he going to sing?
42:30Come on, Andy!
42:31All the way from Manchester to Malta, it's Mr Brightside himself, Andy Wyman.
42:37Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine.
42:41Gotta, gotta be down because I want it all.
42:44Started out with a kiss.
42:45How did it end up like this?
42:47It was only a kiss.
42:49It was only a kiss.
42:51Sometimes you can be a bit sniffy about things, but actually if you just go with the flow, go with the moment, and admire.
42:59And then one more time.
43:00I never thought my life would see me singing karaoke with Maureen Litman.
43:15No.
43:16I never...
43:18There you go!
43:20Thank you very much!
43:21Yeah!
43:22I got us singing a bit of Mr Brightside.
43:23The one song that I never thought I would see her sing, which is brilliant.
43:24Fabulous, Andy.
43:25Fabulous, Andy.
43:26Very good.
43:27I've never felt so antiquated, but I loved it.
43:28Amazing!
43:29Thank you, ladies.
43:30So good.
43:31Thank you very much.
43:32Oh, I forgot my drink.
43:33Oh, don't forget that.
43:34I'm really, really pleased with my day.
43:35Even if I don't win, I've enjoyed it, and I think the girls have enjoyed it, and I think
43:39the girls have enjoyed it.
43:40Oh, thank you, ladies.
43:41Thank you very much.
43:42Oh, I forgot my drink.
43:43Oh, don't forget that.
43:44I'm really, really pleased with my day.
43:45Even if I don't win, I've enjoyed it, and I think the girls have enjoyed it as well.
43:52I've had a great time.
43:53Thank you for sharing my day.
43:54Yeah.
43:59It's the final morning for the Corrie gang, and after sharing their idea of a perfect day
44:04in Malta, with a few bribes along the way, all that remains is to decide the winner.
44:10I did do a lot to charm the ladies yesterday, and I am quite confident that I'll win.
44:14I don't think I deserve to win, but that's not what this is about.
44:19This is actually about friendship and being buddies.
44:21Here you go, Tanisha.
44:23Thank you very much.
44:24Oh, look at that.
44:25I think we've all got a little bit of a smidge chance of winning, to the entire...
44:29Oh, we get all serious.
44:31Yeah.
44:32I have a little something.
44:33I have sorted out getting our items that we've blown from the glassblowing class.
44:39Did I blow that?
44:40Yes.
44:41You did blow that?
44:42With your very own lips.
44:44That's fantastic.
44:45Oh, look at this.
44:46Oh!
44:47Oh, wow.
44:48Look at the colours.
44:49Look at that.
44:50I will show you mine as well.
44:52Oh, I see.
44:53My bowl.
44:54I like that.
44:55I did want a bit of a bribe, to cast a vote over to my side.
44:58Day one, Maureen's day.
44:59How did we find it, Tanisha?
45:01We went on the gondolas.
45:02Oh, how romantic.
45:04How romantic, the three of us.
45:06Thought I was going to be sick.
45:07You mostly thought you were going to be sick every day, didn't you?
45:10Yeah, pretty much.
45:11But we can look past that.
45:12Yeah.
45:13Because I really did enjoy it.
45:14We spoke a lot about you and your life, which was very, very good to know.
45:18I've got to say, I'm not really into the historical side of a holiday, but I think I've learned
45:24that you are.
45:25I think you taught us very well about the history.
45:27History doesn't have to be dull, does it?
45:29If you took took your time, which you did.
45:31If you took took your time, very true, very true.
45:33And the speedboat, you showed your skills off as a leader, and I've loved, absolutely
45:38loved spending time with you.
45:40Tanisha, the pièce de résistance, the soup, what's not to like?
45:45We got to know a little bit more about the way we think of the people that we love.
45:50I love that.
45:51I love that.
45:52So come on and put me out of my misery.
45:53Yeah.
45:54Who are you voting for?
45:55Purely on what I would like to do on holiday and enjoy more.
46:00We're going to have to vote for my grandmother, mother and sister.
46:03I can't vote for myself, so I will be voting for you.
46:08With special commendation for the light of both of our lives.
46:13So that automatically means that I've got no votes.
46:17So thank you both.
46:18I enjoyed both days, but I have to go for Maureen's day.
46:21Oh, well done.
46:24Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
46:25That's fantastic.
46:27Lipman wins another award.
46:29Very happy that I did win.
46:30I will treasure this lack of award for the rest of my life.
46:34I'd like to thank my maker.
46:35Next time I see you in the green room, you say to me, do you want to brew?
46:39Try to remember who you are.
46:41I think we've definitely bonded this week.
46:43I really do think that we'll be making the effort to see each other outside of work,
46:46because we've never really done that before.
46:48I just can't help but look at us as a very dysfunctional family.
46:52Us being very different ages, I've learnt so much.
46:56I feel like Maureen's learnt a little bit from me about the younger generation,
46:59so I'll take that one.
47:00I've let you into the secrets of my insanity.
47:04I think we have bonded, and I think we will meet up over the remaining years that I have,
47:09and I think we'll have something special that we didn't have before.
47:13Would we do it again?
47:14No.
47:15Oh, sorry, was that a rhetorical question?
47:18.
47:35.
47:40.
47:45.
47:49.
47:52.
47:57.
47:58.
47:59.
48:00.
48:01.
48:02.
48:06.
48:07.
48:08.
48:12.
