05:49perched just across Malta's Grand Harbour from the capital, Valletta,
05:53where she'll be combining her love of history with low step counts.

07:40a religious and military group granted Malta in the 16th century.
07:45They were given this place by King Charles V.
07:48He gave them Tripoli, Malta, and he gave them Gozo.

09:18I have driven in Zakintos, and I had to drive
09:21because it was the first holiday I'd ever gone on alone
09:25because my husband had died.
09:27And I was very scared, even just to drive to the shops
09:30on the wrong side of the road.

09:33Just a bit sort of angry.
09:35Angry?
09:36Yes.
09:37You do get angry when someone dies, you know.
09:39Yeah.
09:40But there was a great sense of achievement.
09:43Everyone was a bit worried about me.
09:45After Jack died, and I was in such a state,
09:49but I was so proud of myself that I had achieved a holiday
09:54and looking after myself, I came back like a kind of footballer
09:58going, yes, I did it.
10:01You have to challenge yourself in life and just keep going.
10:05But then I found someone else to lean on.
10:07I just went on a circuit of marriage and happiness
10:12and children and then came back.
10:14I'm with my partner now, David, and I've moved in
10:17and thinking about getting married.

10:25because, obviously, I say we don't really get to see
10:27that side of her at work.

11:14but it's a trip with a twist as they compete with their co-stars
11:17to put on the best day before deciding who's the winner
11:20at the end of the week.
11:22Today, Maureen Littman is in charge
11:24and she's brought the gang to the Grand Harbour
11:27where she's bringing out the big guns to impress.

11:36A tradition since the 19th century,
11:38Malta's twice-daily gun salute helped ship captains
11:41keep the correct time.
11:43Taking you now on something a little more romantic,
11:47a different view of Malta perhaps.
11:51Maureen is hoping to seduce her co-stars
11:54by making the harbour crossing to the Maltese capital,
11:57Valletta, on a traditional gondola.

12:07so it'll be interesting to see what the young ones
12:10think of my rather sedate choice.

12:30I always think it's such a lovely thing
12:31to come into a city from the sea.

13:19that it was a particular day in the Jewett calendar
13:23where a woman can ask a man to marry.
13:26So we were sitting with a table between us and I just slid down.

14:03The gondola has taken the gang across the harbour
14:06to the fortified city of Valletta.
14:09As well as being one of Europe's smallest capitals,
14:12it's also one of the hilliest.

14:34a flustered team quarry eventually reach Upper Baraka Gardens,
14:38one of Valletta's highest points,
14:40and the spot for Maureen's final cultural activity.

14:56to see some traditional Maltese dancing.
14:58It's a peasant dance from the 30s.

15:16I've learnt flamenco in my time.

18:47I've never been any good at that.

20:59When I was younger, my amazing mother,
21:01she was a young mum, she was 19,
21:03and she was working constantly to provide for us.
21:06So my grandparents, I was with them a lot,
21:08and my grandad loves his arts and crafts.
21:10He's very good at it.
21:11Right.
21:12So keeping me occupied at the weekend,
21:14we would always be building something, you know, boxes, crafts.
21:17Yeah, so it was a really nice childhood memory,
21:19memory of that.
21:20I think being around them so much of my younger life,
21:23I do think I can relate quite a lot
21:25how to get on with the older generation.
21:27They do say that friends are God's apology for relatives,
21:31but your family, your family is so important.
21:34Yeah, it really is.

21:37about being brought up by her grandparents.
21:39I've worked with her for a long time,
21:40but we don't really speak about stuff like that at work,
21:42so just to hear her speak about grandparents like that

23:14a 30-minute drive inland from the capital, Valletta.
23:17Despite having just 250 residents, it's the oldest city in Malta
23:22and has seen even more drama than The Rovers' Return.
