00:00As stories of Harvey Weinstein's alleged sexual harassment and abuse continue to make
00:05headlines, Hollywood stars are speaking out about the movie mogul.
00:08This comes after The New York Times published a report detailing decades of allegations
00:13against him last Thursday, and The New Yorker published a new expose on Tuesday accusing
00:17him of raping three women, among other sexual assault claims.
00:21A spokesperson for Weinstein, who was terminated from his company over the weekend, denied
00:25the accusations made in Tuesday's New Yorker report.
00:28Meryl Streep, Judi Dench and Glenn Close were some of the first major actresses to speak
00:32out against Weinstein. Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain have since joined the growing
00:37list, which also includes Kate Winslet, Patricia Arquette, Lena Dunham, Amber Tamblyn, Brie
00:43Larson, America Ferreira and more.
00:45Chastain shared multiple articles about Weinstein on social media and said of his behavior,
00:50"...I was warned from the beginning. The stories were everywhere. To deny that is to create
00:54an environment for it to happen again."
00:57While Lawrence, who won an Oscar for the Weinstein-produced film Silver Linings Playbook,
01:01said that though she never experienced any form of harassment personally, nor did I know
01:05about any of these allegations, she was deeply disturbed to learn about them, and described
01:09the producer's behavior as inexcusable and absolutely upsetting. She added,
01:14"...my heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions, and I want to thank
01:19them for their bravery to come forward." Now, after being called upon by many to do the same,
01:23male stars are beginning to share their thoughts and condemn the claims of Weinstein's behavior.
01:27George Clooney was one of Weinstein's most prominent male collaborators to speak out. In an interview
01:32for The Daily Beast published on Monday, the actor-director said,
01:36"...I've heard rumors, and the rumors in general started back in the 90s, and they were that certain
01:40actresses had slept with Harvey to get a role. It seemed like a way to smear the actresses and demean
01:45them by saying that they didn't get the jobs based on their talent. So I took those rumors with a grain
01:50of salt." He continued,
01:51Clooney has known Weinstein for 20 years. He said the producer had given him his big break in film
02:09acting with From Dusk Till Dawn and directing with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Ben Affleck, who
02:14also starred in pictures under the Miramax banner such as Shakespeare in Love and Good Will Hunting,
02:18said he had to speak out.
02:21"...I'm saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate,
02:25sexually harass, and manipulate many women over decades. The additional allegations of assault
02:31that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking
02:36what I can do to make sure this doesn't happen to others. We need to do better at protecting our
02:40sisters, friends, co-workers, and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type
02:45of behavior when we see it, and help ensure there are more women in positions of power."
02:49Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter on Tuesday to share his thoughts, writing,
02:53"...I'm as appalled and repulsed by the Weinstein news as anyone with a beating heart,
02:57and forever in awe of the bravery of those who spoke out."
03:00Mark Ruffalo and director Judd Apatow also took to Twitter. Ruffalo said,
03:05"...to be clear, what Harvey Weinstein did was a disgusting abuse of power and horrible.
03:09I hope we are now seeing the beginning of the end of these abuses."
03:12Seth Rogen also applauded the brave women who are speaking out.
