00:00This Argentinian number 10s
00:03Morales has led New York City
00:06to an MLS Cup before in 2021
00:09Lionel Messi is trying to bring
00:11into Miami there for the first
00:13time. It was the stated goal of
00:16this project. Every interview
00:18that Lionel Messi has given
00:20since he arrived he's talked
00:21about MLS Cup. Miami is one
00:24game away but New York City
00:27upset after upset in these
00:29playoffs will try to make it a
00:33fourth straight on the road.
00:34The Eastern Conference final is
00:36underway. It's Inter Miami hosting
00:39New York City FC. Inter Miami in
00:42their primary pinks New York City
00:45in their city blue. This is a
00:48matchup of the team that has
00:49scored the most goals in these
00:50playoffs Inter Miami 12 and the
00:53team that is allowed the fewest
00:55New York City just won in four
00:57games. Inter Miami have looked
00:59incredible scoring 40 to their
01:01last two Taylor. What is New York
01:03City's hope to have the defense
01:06win out in this battle of the best
01:08attack against the best defense. I
01:10think defensively they've got to be
01:11very cohesive and make the field
01:13very tight in the way they've
01:15started the first minute of this
01:16game. But I actually think the key
01:18is can they possess the ball. Can they
01:20be dynamic and get after a back line
01:22of Miami that looks much more
01:24balanced than it has throughout the
01:26entire year. New York City on the
01:28road is a top five possession team
01:30in the regular season. They're going
01:31to have to be good with the ball
01:32tonight if they want to surprise
01:34people and beat Miami away from
01:36home. Both of these teams love to
01:38have the ball both in the top five
01:40in the top five in possession or top
01:42six in possession in the regular
01:44season in MLS play. This is
01:46promising for Inter Miami in the
01:48opening two minutes. Tadeo
01:50Allende in to Lionel Messi. Over to
01:56Jordi Alba. Jordi Alba. That
02:00freeze will catch comfortably. New
02:07York City are going to defend with
02:08numbers and defend deep then this
02:10is going to give a real license for
02:12Jordi Alba to get for it. He's
02:14already going to find that space
02:16when Lionel Messi is on the ball.
02:17But more importantly way gone
02:18overlapping on the right. Alba
02:20coming down the left. Those
02:22overloads in wide areas could
02:24really work in Miami's favorite
02:25tonight.
02:30Morales tried to flick it over
02:32Busquets. This was brought back
02:34for the earlier foul a moment
02:36before the ball made it to
02:37Morales.
02:47The starting lineups are
02:48presented by AT&T. It's the same
02:5011 for Javier Mascherano that beat
02:53FC Cincinnati 4-0 in the Eastern
02:55Conference semifinal last weekend.
02:59That means once again no Luis
03:02Suarez in the 11 for Inter Miami
03:04instead it's Mateo Silvetti and
03:06Taddeo Allende flanking Lionel
03:08Messi up top. And for New York
03:11City one change from Pascal Jansen
03:13as Aiden O'Neil comes back from
03:15suspension and the player that is
03:17sacrificed is Hennis Wolf. So it's
03:20a change in formation for New
03:24York City at least it looks that
03:25way but in the opening three
03:27minutes Kevin O'Toole maybe we
03:29expected to be a left wing back
03:31certainly much higher up the
03:33pitch this looks defensively more
03:35like a 4-4-2.
03:36Well keep in mind too O'Toole
03:37played in the midfield last week
03:39against Philadelphia so he's got the
03:41profile where he can cover inside
03:43he could defend in wide areas. I
03:46think if Miami's going to have their
03:48way O'Toole's going to be playing as a
03:49wing back because that means
03:51Waikant's overlapping. Allende's
03:53coming inside looking for
03:54combinations but I think Hennis
03:56Wolf is their X Factor coming off
03:58the bench and I think that's why New
03:59York City starts in this manner.
04:038 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw in their last
04:1810 away matches. An incredible
04:20reversal of form for New York City
04:22who won just one of their first 11
04:24games away from New York to begin
04:26this season.
04:39Already tied for the most away wins
04:41in a single postseason with three.
04:43They're perfect away from home in
04:47this postseason. New York Red Bulls
04:49their rivals last year. They made it
04:52to MLS Cup. Had the record, has the
04:55record with three away wins in a
04:57single postseason. Game one in
04:59Charlotte, game three in Charlotte
05:00and then the Eastern Conference
05:01semi-final in Philadelphia beating
05:03the two teams with the best home
05:05records during the MLS regular
05:06season. And here comes New York
05:08City in transition. Sliding through
05:11for O'Toole was Morales and too
05:14far but a promising moment for New
05:16York City. Five minutes in.
05:18Oh and New York City believes that
05:20with Javier Mascherrano and the way
05:22he has set up this team that if
05:24Maxi Morales can find space in
05:27behind Rodrigo DePaul and Rodriguez
05:29they can get after Sergio Busquets.
05:31They can get Busquets to chase the
05:33game. Good example of that just
05:34moments ago with Maxi Morales
05:36penetrating right through the
05:37midfield of Inter-Miami.
05:39Morales has started all regular
05:42season and playoff games this
05:44season for New York City at 38
05:4738 years old starting all 34 games
05:50in the regular season. The oldest
05:51field player in league history to do
05:54so since MLS went to the 34 game
05:58seasons about 15 years ago. He's a
06:01club legend. Has been at New York
06:05City basically since 2017. Spent half
06:08a year of 2023 back in Argentina
06:11before returning. And here comes New
06:12York City again. Augustine Ojeita
06:15with Fernandez Mercado in the middle.
06:17And O'Toole in the middle. And it's
06:18behind the run of O'Toole and Miami
06:21can deal with it.
06:23Morales poked away by Allende.
06:36New York City's pressure wins it back
06:38again.
06:51Well they're going to want to pick and
06:53choose their moments in the right
06:54moments to high press and turn them
06:56over. And right there a good example of
06:58the midfield stepping in behind the
06:59attacking three. And now New York City
07:01can have a little bit of spell of
07:02possession to take the pressure of
07:04their defensive shape. But more
07:05importantly turning over Miami in
07:06their defensive third.
07:09Allen knocks it down but it's right to
07:20Johnny Shore. Now Augustine Ojeita
07:22running at Jordi Alba into Fernandez
07:24Mercado.
07:39What a different game for this back
07:50line of Miami versus last week against
07:52Cincinnati. Falcone knew exactly what
07:55he needed to do. That was defend
07:57Kevin Denke. There's no Alonzo Martinez
08:00on the field. So now there's three
08:01attacking players that don't really
08:03like to play through the mill. They're
08:05going to roam. They're going to peel
08:06off. Falcone's got to be very
08:08disciplined with this positioning
08:10tonight. Ojeita.
08:15Tavon Gray into Fernandez Mercado.
08:19Allen intervenes.
08:24Wagon into trouble. Morales is
08:26pressuring.
08:29Messi all the way back to help out
08:31Marcelo Wagon.
08:37Messi a heavy touch.
09:01Allows O'Toole to take it away. Fernandez
09:04Marcao.
09:07Ojeita into Kevin O'Toole.
09:10And still Kevin O'Toole.
09:13Lionel Messi has remained down behind
09:22this play.
09:23Miami kind of gesturing to New York City
09:27to put the ball out of play and now
09:29John Freeman the referee will stop
09:32play for a moment.
09:33There was nothing malicious from Aiden O'Neal.
09:36Aiden O'Neal was just holding off Lionel Messi
09:39and the arm just gets caught.
09:42Trying to hold him off into the face of Lionel Messi.
09:44I don't think there's a foul there but good work from Aiden O'Neal to close down that space.
09:48As Messi dropped into the midfield to try to get a little bit more involved in possession.
09:55Pascal Janssen the first year New York City manager.
10:05One of four first year managers in these conference finals.
10:09A remarkable first season for not just Janssen but Javier Mascherano.
10:15Jesper Sorensen in Vancouver.
10:17Mike Ivarus in San Diego.
10:19First time in league history that has happened.
10:25Fernandez Marcao called for a foul.
10:29Pascal Janssen talked to us about changing the road mentality in New York City.
10:33He said when he arrived he felt this anxiety about going away from whether it be Yankee Stadium or Citi Field.
10:40This mindset of away games that he wanted to change.
10:43They clearly have done that as the season has gone on.
10:46Winning eight of their last ten away from home.
10:48Very impressed with Pascal Janssen and just how direct he is with the players.
10:52How direct his message is.
10:54Simple to understand.
10:56There's a lot of similarities to this group and the mentality around them to 2021.
11:01When come playoff time all of a sudden the Eagles were thrown off the door.
11:05They went on the road.
11:062021 they won MLS Cup in Portland after beating the Union in Philadelphia.
11:11A lot of similarities to this group.
11:13But he's impressed me coming into this.
11:15Dealing with the roster before they could bring in Aniko Fernandez and others.
11:20And now all of a sudden this team looks very very unbeatable when they're away from home.
11:25They also advance through three levels of the playoffs away from home in their MLS Cup winning season of 2012.
11:30One of those a win on penalties.
11:34Two wins and a draw in 2021.
11:37This is the second time these teams have met in the playoffs.
11:40They also did the first round in 2022.
11:42Very different Inter-Miami team.
11:44A three and a win for New York City.
11:46Messi draws a foul.
11:48And the first dangerous free kick of this Eastern Conference Final will come 12 minutes in.
11:53Without Suarez in the lineup.
11:56Lionel Messi's through the middle.
11:58But he can drop and he can play combinations.
12:01Now he's just lingering in your back shoulder.
12:04Nico Fernandez not even understanding where Messi is there.
12:08But quickly popping up winning possession.
12:10Dangerous set piece here from Miami.
12:17Lionel Messi about 30 yards away from Matt Fries.
12:34Six goals already in these playoffs.
12:38Just one goal allowed in four games by Matt Fries.
12:43New York City's dealing with a little bit of an issue.
12:46Tavon Gray's got two attacking players from Miami on the back post.
12:50Messi will send this ball in.
12:53The header is right at Fries.
12:56A great chance for Matteo Silvetti.
13:01You wouldn't know it from watching this.
13:03New York City gave up the third least goals on set pieces.
13:06And yet that is a wide open header for Javier Mascherano in Inter-Miami.
13:11The agains against his midi tour.
13:29So moved across more.
13:34The the the the .
13:37Allen stepping away from Morales back to Falcone DePaul I end a turning hat breaks it up Morales
14:05like he was fouled play continued perhaps to see if advantage would materialize New York City got to be a little careful along Rodrigo DePaul to have the vision and eyes to play the ball forward who's gets direct to Allende
14:35the unstoppable force strikes first Tadeo Allende's sixth goal of these playoffs
14:47Inter Miami won New York City now in the Eastern Conference Final Carlos El Karaz loves it
14:54on is it clear and obvious that Allende's in an offside position this is as close as it gets
15:00no pressure on the ball from Sergio Busquets the question is going to be whether or not the right
15:06shoulder the attacking shoulder in front of Allende does he is he in an offside position
15:12but he has been absolutely brilliant in the playoffs without Luis Suarez in the lineup Allende has made it
15:20his position to be dangerous to be fertile to get in behind he's done all of that and he's needed a little
15:27luck on his side unfortunate for Gustavo that ball pops to the right foot of Allende
15:33but what a finish his sixth goal in the playoffs and a great start for Miami here at home Javier
15:41Mascherano and Miami lead 1-0
15:43today Allende draws even with his teammate Lionel Messi for the most goals in these in this postseason
15:53and he is now also two away from the all-time record in Major League Soccer of eight goals scored in a single postseason
16:08set by Carlos Ruiz 23 years ago
16:12perfect start for Inter Miami on the score sheet but fair to say New York City looked all right for the first 15 minutes
16:22until that goal yeah but what is all right get you against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami how many times have you and I said you got to be perfect and now the question is going to be what is the reaction
16:31from New York City when you go into a game trying to be very compact defending you give up a goal in the first 15 minutes against a team
16:39that an MLS play is unbeaten when scoring first
16:43we're going to find out whether or not New York City's got it in them to give them something to think about
16:48yes you're 17 minutes in you don't want to abort the game plan right away but now New York City
16:54is going to have to try to play a little bit more
16:57and ultimately that opens the game in ways that Miami can exploit the way they did
17:02against Nashville and the way they did against Cincinnati
17:05just the second goal that New York City have conceded in this postseason
17:13and the first early goal that they have conceded this is the first time they have trailed
17:18at any point in the playoffs the only other goal they allowed it was in the 81st minute
17:24game three against Charlotte when they were up 2-0
17:28adversity again for Pascal Jansen's road warriors
17:32how will they respond
17:37how will they respond
17:37Allen intercepts
18:04Allen intercepts
18:05after call pack for Mayende
18:11Jordi Alba beats Agustin Ojeda to it
18:14MLS Cup will be next week
18:22if Inter-Miami win this match they will host
18:26if New York City win they will go on the road
18:29to the winner of the Western Conference
18:31Miami with more regular season points than either
18:34San Diego or Vancouver
18:36Western Conference finalists
18:38New York City with fewer
18:39going out of the road
18:45and then they will go outside of the NCAA
18:47and then this is the team here
18:48and this is the team here
18:49they have a team here
18:49and they have a team here
18:52and this is the team there
18:52and this is the team here
18:54and the team here
18:55today we end his goal the first goal scored by Inter Miami in these playoffs without an
19:12involvement from Lionel Messi and even six goals and six assists in their first 12 goals of these
19:19playoffs so Betty is gonna run at Tavon Cray getting away so Betty messy but underneath his foot
19:38Messi cutting inside and they trying to leave for Messi broken up by Johnny Shorts back to
19:48Allende though O'Neal there to intervene we got called for a foul well just sitting down with New
19:59York City's coaching staff and Pascal Johnson in particular I asked him you gave up four goals
20:04to Miami in September how is this team different and he used the word spicy he said the attack is
20:11different there's a different flavor to it because of Allende and Solvete because of Messi in a false
20:17nine role and it's crazy to think that a team that scored 81 goals more than anyone right with Suarez
20:24on the field that this team could be actually better as the yellow cards given to what looks
20:29Maxi Morales for an elbow into the shoulder of the chest of Falcone but this team's just so difficult
20:35to defend and over the last two and a half years doing their games as much as anyone I've never seen
20:41Miami this balanced right the middle of the screen Falcone just gets under his skin and Maxi Morales
20:48trying to lose the defender and get into him that's a little unfortunate I think I think he's just
20:54trying to give Falcone a little taste of his own medicine Morales in the book arguing with Rodrigo de
21:03Paul Pascal Johnson is pensive on the New York City touchline
21:12Rose Lavelle of the U.S. women's national team is here Emily Sonnet next to her actually
21:24most of the U.S. women are here at this game today
21:27they beat Italy 3-0 yesterday in Orlando they will play here this upcoming week
21:39ball still has not gone back into play and clearly there was quite a bit of unhappiness with
22:00that moment between Morales and Falcone and Tom Freeman has some work to do now to get things
22:07calm down
22:14we got is shown a yellow card you know what I'm gonna say baby games exactly for what reason
22:34of your way guns are you getting involved at home you've already got their number 10 on a yellow
22:41the free kick is yours for what reason are you getting involved in this moment
22:47it's the Easter conference final in less than a week you could be hosting MLS cup there's no reason to get involved
22:54so after all of that
23:01that Axi Morales Marcelo Waga are on yellow cards and now the ball is back into play
23:08what a goal
23:10he's on fire
23:11he's on fire another brace for today
23:17and now the ball is in the bullpen
23:18in the end of the day
23:19and then two guys
23:26head into Miami have doubled their lead
23:29as good of a goal you'll see around the world and it starts with a world class ball
23:32you'll see around the world and it starts with the world-class ball from Jordi Alba
23:39everybody at Chase Stadium off their feet because anything that man's touching is hitting the back
23:46of the net but the first goal no pressure on Sergio Busquets the second goal you can't allow
23:53players like Jordi Alba to find this freedom but watch the run from Allende outside and in split
24:00the two defenders in a world-class header to the back post for his seventh goal in the MLS Cup playoffs
24:09he has missed his chances this year not in the biggest games in the latter parts of the season
24:18tip of the cap to Jordi Alba but how about that finish my word they are good right now
24:27and he's having fun 2-0 Moshirano Miami at home
24:34Taneo Allende's seven playoff goals is now the second most a player has ever scored in a single
24:43postseason in MLS history he's one away from Carlos Ruiz's record
24:49a first 25 minutes it hasn't had much flow to it
24:58Inter Miami won't care they have taken their two moments he has taken his two moments
25:04and it's a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half of the Eastern Conference Final
25:10already Alba down
25:19to his wrist he gestures to
25:24New York City allowed one goal in 360 minutes in this playoff they've allowed two with 25
25:33just watch the left hand he immediately grabbed the left hand
25:40Jordi Alba uncomfortable but Jake to your point who'd they play
25:44they played Charlotte in three games with all due respect that's not Inter Miami
25:48yeah Philadelphia easily with a little bit better finishing could have scored two or three goals
25:53Matt freeze stood on his head but I said it in the open this is a juggernaut that I haven't seen
25:59similar to the LA Galaxy in the playoffs last year isn't it with paint seal and pack and Ricky Pooch
26:06Javier Mascherano now has his front three really feeling themselves
26:11Lionel Messi still giving Maxi Morales an earful from that yellow card challenge early on
26:23there's not much more you need to say other than 2-0
26:27Inter Miami have now scored 95 goals in the regular season and playoffs combined
26:32that matches the 1998 Los Angeles Galaxy for the most in Major League Soccer history
26:40the attack's been great but right now Javier Mascherano is going to be focused on his team defending this set piece
26:47and this 2-0 lead
26:59you'd have to think this is an in-swinging ball from Maxi Morales with so many bodies in front of Rios Nolo
27:05instead it's Fernandez Mercall the outswinger
27:10hack has to really reach to try to redirect that on goal and he's unable to do anything threatening with it
27:16Johnny Shore
27:19Agustino Hayda
27:21they're in the position of Cleveland
27:24that's a bunch of upside
27:24Allianan
27:25they're in the position of Cleveland
27:27Davis
27:30Anthony
27:38Sanchez
27:41Agustino Heylon Gray was too far
27:43New York City playing without their lead striker, Alonzo Martinez.
27:50An ACL injury on international duty with Costa Rica a week and a half ago.
27:57Without Andres Perea, such an important player in their midfield.
28:03A broken leg suffered in Game 3 of Round 1 at Charlotte.
28:08They fought through that adversity to win the Eastern Conference Semifinal
28:12at Philadelphia.
28:16They're really going to have to fight through it tonight now as they trail 2-0.
28:21Fernandez Mercado does well to get around Falcone,
28:24but then it's right at Rio Snowball from a narrow angle.
28:33Well, missing Alonzo Martinez is massive.
28:3617 goals in MLS, played 12 of those game winners.
28:38As much of a one-man attack as you'll get in the Eastern Conference and even MLS.
28:45And I've had this argument with many people.
28:47I think he's in the conversation for the best nine in CONCACAF.
28:52With the likes of Jonathan David and others,
28:54missing him is massive tonight, even before giving up the first two goals.
29:00They're missing his pace, his pace in transition, the ability to run him behind.
29:08That's where Falcone and Allen have been challenged at times as a center-back tandem.
29:12It was November 13th, so over two weeks ago against Haiti.
29:23Alonzo Martinez tearing his ACL.
29:24He scored 33 goals the last two seasons.
29:27Combined, that's fifth most in MLS.
29:30Really kicked on after League's Cup in 2024 and during that tournament.
29:3625 goals since August of last year.
29:40That's the fourth most of any player in MLS.
29:42And they were going to have to make a decision this winter.
29:44There was real European interest in Alonzo Martinez for real money.
29:50And in the blink of an eye, Costa Rica and Alonzo Martinez fail to qualify for the World Cup.
29:54And he tears his ACL.
29:59Hernandez, Mercado replacing Martinez against Philadelphia in that number nine spot.
30:09Instrumental in the goal.
30:12That argues instrumental in them being here.
30:18Of course, two wonderful goals in game three against Charlotte's long solo efforts.
30:26In the 15 games he's played since signing for eight million plus, they've won 10.
30:31And that's the thing about New York City, that no one's talking enough about Pascal Janssen in the sense that the roster wasn't really full and complete until the last 15 games of the year.
30:43But they're up against it right now.
30:45Silvetti from distance blocked by Schor.
30:49Messi battling while Gustavo gets it away.
30:57Falcone tumbling over Fernandez Mercado.
31:00Well, yellow card out from John Freeman.
31:04And it's Fernandez Mercado who goes into the book.
31:07So, three yellow cards in the first 31 minutes of this game.
31:13Falcone just frustrates you.
31:14He gets under your skin.
31:16And he tries to get you involved in games that take away your concentration in the moment.
31:22He's done it with Morales.
31:23He's now done it with Nico Fernandez.
31:26And now all of a sudden the two attacking players, the best attacking players for New York City, both have a yellow.
31:31Fernandez Mercado, Morales for New York City.
31:34We got it for Miami in the book early on in what has been a physical and intense Eastern Conference final.
31:42With two moments from Inter-Miami, two from Tateo Ayente.
31:47Giving the home team a two-nil lead to this point.
31:53The winner tonight will meet the winner of the Western Conference final in MLS.
32:23Next week, it's San Diego FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
32:28The top two seeds in the West from Snapdragon Stadium.
32:32Coverage begins here on Apple TV at 8.30 Eastern.
32:36If it's Inter-Miami, then the winner of that Western Conference final will come here to South Florida next week for MLS Cup.
32:44If New York City can come back tonight, then they would have to travel to the winner of San Diego and Vancouver for MLS Cup.
32:53That should be a thrilling Western Conference final after us here on Apple TV.
32:58Who's going to have more possession in that game?
33:02Because both teams love it.
33:04They want it.
33:05They demand it.
33:08Vancouver looks unplayable since Tomas Mueller signed with them.
33:14Sebastian Ferahelter looks good.
33:15But they're without the MLS Defender of the Year in Blackman.
33:19It's going to be interesting to see how San Diego tries to expose that loss.
33:22Another yellow card.
33:28Now it's Noah Allen.
33:41So New York City have two attackers on yellows.
33:44Miami now have two defenders on yellow cards early in this game as Allen joins way down in the book.
33:52Miami now have two defenders on yellows.
34:22Rios Novo backpedals, and it's out for a goal kick.
34:27Well, Busquetsu's at a little odds there because dealing with the win.
34:31Difficult moment there for Miami to defend.
34:34MLS Cup next Saturday, December 6th.
34:37Conference begins at 1 p.m. Eastern.
34:39Will it be Lionel Messi and Inter-Miami hosting that game in one week's time?
34:46Can New York City continue to overcome adversity?
34:49They've been put in a big hole because of that man.
34:51Today, O.I.N., they already embrace to give Inter-Miami an early 2-0 lead in the first half of this Eastern Conference Final.
34:58The problem for New York City, Jake, nobody's going to play behind the back line of Miami without Alonzo Martinez.
35:04All three players that are on the attacking line, they all operate in front of him.
35:10So, Javier Mascherano's been screaming at Alonzo Falcone.
35:14Just be very calm and composed.
35:16Allow them possession in front of you if no one's getting in behind.
35:19We got forward.
35:20DePaul floating it.
35:22Hack settled.
35:22Two-way guns!
35:24It's blocked.
35:24It came off of his own teammate, Silvetti, actually.
35:27And it's a goal kick for New York City.
35:34Rodrigo DePaul, throughout the entire playoffs, has looked more comfortable in what his role is tactically.
35:41And I think they did a real good job after losing Game 2 in Nashville of saying to DePaul, be on the front foot.
35:48High press.
35:49Get behind Lionel Messi and go.
35:51Have a front five or six players that get right up the backside of the opposition trying to build out of the back.
35:58And it's made DePaul, and I think Miami, a little bit more difficult to break down.
36:04I mean, even last week, you and I looked at each other at halftime.
36:07Evander, Brenner, very few influential touches.
36:10Because DePaul and Busquets look like they're on the same page.
36:14Did Miami beat New York City the last time they played in September 4-0?
36:18That's what Rodriguez has called for a foul now.
36:21But that was a different game.
36:24New York City had a few wonderful chances in the first half before Miami got there first.
36:29Yeah, there's no argument here.
36:30Rodriguez going right through the backside of Maxi Morales.
36:34I'm glad you referenced that because people forget Thiago Martins had to come out of that game.
36:40When he came out, in 12 minutes they scored three goals.
36:43Right?
36:44And that was the change.
36:44But if not for a little bit better finishing, that scoreline would have been different.
36:49Tonight, it's a different story.
36:51New York City scoreline's 2-0.
36:53Yeah.
36:53Miami's deserved it.
36:54And New York City's still looking for their first really good chance of this Eastern Conference final.
36:58Perhaps it will come here.
37:03It does!
37:04And they pulled one back!
37:07It's Justin Hack!
37:11The Brooklyn native has given New York City life 2-1.
37:16What a huge morale boost from New York City.
37:24Silvetti's a little naive with his defending here.
37:28He drops about a yard deeper to keep Justin Hack onside.
37:33Everyone else holds the line.
37:36Silvetti does not.
37:37He drops deep.
37:39Justin Hack onside.
37:41And there has been an Achilles heel since Messi's been in Miami.
37:44Defending set pieces.
37:46They've given up a ton of goals.
37:4715 on the season coming into this one.
37:51Make that 16 and make it game on.
37:54Haskell Jansen, New York City.
37:56Back into this one.
37:57Down 2-1.
37:58A huge moment for New York City.
38:01It snapped a 262-minute shutout streak from Inter-Miami in these playoffs.
38:09And all of a sudden, things have changed in the Eastern Conference Final.
38:21Justin Hack's first career playoff goal.
38:25He has been a warrior for this team.
38:27Their minutes leader, the only player to start all 43 games New York City has played in this season, all competitions.
38:33His seventh season as a home run for New York City, but his breakout season this year.
38:41And he has been a permanent marker starter for Pascal Jansen.
38:46Think of the names.
38:47New York City's academy has come through the pro player pathway.
38:51And Justin Hack was one of the first ones, if not the first one.
38:55And yet he's had to wait for his opportunity.
38:57And he's waited a long time.
38:59And he's taken it with both hands in 20-25.
39:04What a difference that goal makes.
39:06Now all of a sudden, there's life in New York City.
39:09There's a game still to be had here with New York City's game plan, tactical mindset.
39:16But then the last two playoff series you and I have seen, Miami score a goal going into halftime.
39:21It's the last thing New York City wants to do right now.
39:23DePaul through, Wagant settling back to DePaul.
39:28Patient, he's looking for Silvetti on the ground.
39:31It's dealt with by New York City.
39:32Now they'll try to come forward and transition.
39:35Falcone does well.
39:36And then Wagant back to Allen.
39:38It's brilliant recognition from Falcone.
39:40He knows there's nobody from New York City behind him.
39:42Why not be aggressive on the front line, defend that, turn it over, win possession back for Miami?
39:48You mentioned Justin Hack being a homegrown and some of the great homegrowns that have come through New York City.
39:53He was part of that group in 2018 that won the U-19 National Championship, as it was known.
39:59His teammates, Gio Reyna, Joe Scali, James Sands.
40:03And they were young.
40:05Hack was 16, Scali was 15, Gio Reyna was 15.
40:08This was the U-19 Championship.
40:10It took him longer than those guys to break out as a professional.
40:17And he has been essential for New York City to get to this Eastern Conference Final
40:22and perhaps the biggest moment of his career, bringing New York City back into this game.
40:36Messi into DePaul.
40:38Slides it for Wagant.
40:40Wagant looking for Silvetti.
40:42It was Hack who was there defensively.
40:44Yeah, this is where Miami misses Ian Frey.
40:46Wagant doesn't have the same quality when he gets into the attacking third.
40:52Justin Hack doing a real good job of defending that near post.
40:55But Wagant's now had three or four good opportunities to deliver a better ball in the final third, and he hasn't done so.
41:01Frey is available today on the bench.
41:04She missed the Eastern Conference Semifinal after picking up a minor injury on international duty with Jamaica.
41:12Let it just wake up and gets the start tonight.
41:14Johnny Shore.
41:39Augustine Ojeita.
41:40Augustine Ojeita.
41:43Allen takes it away.
41:46Ojeita tries to win it back.
41:47Play continues.
41:52DePaul around O'Neal.
41:53Messi.
41:58Through towards Wagant.
42:03Freeze will come collect.
42:04Skeps breaks it up in the midfield.
42:24DePaul.
42:25If you're Aiden O'Neal, you've got to be a little bit cleaner in possession.
42:32Those are the little mistakes you don't want to do to give Miami more opportunities, especially in your own defensive third.
42:40If you need to miss a pass, it's got to be forward and behind.
42:44Allende, a touch away.
42:47Our team's over to help defend.
42:50Silvetti collects for Inter-Miami.
42:53Wins a throw.
42:54Wins a throw.
43:24DePaul
43:44Messi
43:47Rodriguez with Rue
43:50Busquets
43:53Rodriguez
43:55and DePaul again
43:57Chronicle build up from Inter Miami
44:00Messi
44:01Spinning
44:02Floating it towards Jordi Alba
44:05Ojeda was ready for it but concedes a corner
44:07Yeah, the good defending from Ojeda
44:09You can't kick caught ball watching
44:11Especially with Lionel Messi on the ball
44:13And then he's going to look for not that second or third pass
44:15But the fourth one
44:17Which is that Jordi Alba diagonal run
44:19Really good defending from Ojeda in the moment
44:23Jordi Alba a little frustrated that Rodriguez isn't switching the point of attack
44:27Quicker to get him the opportunity to play with his head up
44:31Cincinnati result DePaul come over for short corners
44:38We don't see Rodrigo DePaul
44:40Over here with Lionel Messi
44:42Close but he's more at the top of the 18
44:44Messi will send this towards the back post
44:47Knocked down
44:49He's in the corner of his head up
44:50I love you
44:51ma'am
44:52Corbett
45:37Shorty Alba couldn't handle it. Gray takes it away.
45:42Added time is presented by Celsius, official energy drink partner of MLS.
45:47It's been a disjointed first half. There will be a minimum of six minutes added on.
45:52A first half of moments. Two from Javier Mascherano's Inter-Miami.
46:01One from New York City.
46:04Today, Ollende a brace for Inter-Miami. Justin Hack pulled one back for New York City.
46:10Two from Javier Mascherano's Inter-Miami.
46:21Pressure from Miami. It forces Gray to send it into touch.
46:23Pressure from Miami. It forces Gray to send it into touch.
46:35What do you think Pascal Janssen is feeling about this first half?
46:50I think he wants to get into halftime, regroup.
46:53He's got a few players coming off the bench that could change something, but they've regrouped very well getting that first goal.
46:59The last thing he wants is to give up a goal, but you keep seeing the motion.
47:03He wants him to be a little bit more compact defending, but you're talking about real life from this moment.
47:11Maxi Morales, great ball in, and a clinical header from Justin Hack.
47:17You're down 2-0. You haven't had any chances. You're missing your leading goal scorer.
47:21He had set pieces. A quick free kick from Miami gets them their second goal, and then that one for New York City.
47:30Those have been the moments tonight.
47:35Rodriguez, he let it run across his body, which allowed Ojeita to come and get there first, and Rodriguez was called for a foul.
47:43What's interesting, though, over the last, I would say, 15, 20 minutes, O'Toole's been playing as a left wingback.
47:52And yes, Ojeita's had to defend a little bit deeper at times.
47:55We saw him defend Jordi Alba, but those studs were shown a little bit from Rodriguez, but not enough for VAR to check in.
48:03But Aiden O'Neal is the most important player.
48:06You cannot leave and chase the game east to west outside, because those are the spaces that Messi wants to operate.
48:13And so that's where the compactness and being tight that you see Pascal Janssen and reading lips, where he said it three or four times the last ten minutes, that is exactly what he's talking about.
48:24Do not allow Miami to play through Messi through the middle.
48:27Have them go around, where then you've got three decent center backs that can defend those crosses coming in.
48:43Hernandez Mercow.
48:55Hernandez Mercow.
48:57Fernandez-Marcao.
49:27And for Javier Mascherano, what do you think his message is at halftime?
49:36Oh, his Apple Watch was telling you exactly what it was.
49:39It said loud environment.
49:40I think that's coming from the user screaming at his team to get a little bit more energy
49:45and going forward.
49:46I think he's going to have to find a way to get a little bit more, I hate to use the word
49:51rhythm because they've had a ton of possession, but more so can they get some patterns of play
49:55playing into it?
49:56The clubs have been off at disjointed plays, a deflection, a quick free kick, but in the
50:02run of play, Miami hasn't had the run of play the way they did against Cincinnati a week
50:05ago.
50:06This is promising here.
50:08We got DePaul leaves, Messi, Silvetti, Rodriguez behind Jordi Alba.
50:23The frustration for Rodriguez and Alba just comes from the hard work from Bojeda dropping
50:28deep and helping Tavon Gray deal with the overlapping runs from Jordi Alba.
50:32Miami have had more of the possession in this first half, around 52%, but really it's just
50:41been two chances created for Miami, two goals, one chance created for New York City, one
50:50difference.
50:51The goalkeeper has made a really big save yet in this match, and it's two to one.
50:55Messi shrugs off Raul Gustavo, and now it's Jordi Alba.
51:01Back to Lionel Messi, heavy touch, broken up, gets it to Jordi Alba, slides forward, Silvetti,
51:08cuts it back, wins a corner in what might be the final moment of the first half.
51:10It's a rare sloppy touch from Lionel Messi, but good reaction from Sergio Busquets to counter-press,
51:17and turn him over.
51:19Carlos Alcaraz, looking on.
51:20Carlos Alcaraz, looking on.
51:26Carlos Alcaraz, looking on.
51:39Carlos Alcaraz, looking on.
51:43Carlos Alcaraz, looking on.
52:06Corner now.
52:07Oh, through.
52:09through my god knows it was perhaps a chance
52:17rather it was jordie alva there on the back post but it's today's first half race
52:24that has given into miami a two to one lead at halftime justin hack pulling a massive goal back
52:32for his hometown club allende
