00:00Well, now that we've established that Bill is not what you want, can we move on to what you do?
00:04Jamie Lynn Spears is making her long-awaited return to TV in the new Netflix drama Sweet
00:08Magnolias. The 29-year-old opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about why it's finally the
00:12right time and finding the perfect role in Noreen Fitzgibbons. A young nurse whose affair with Dr.
00:17Bill Townsend, played by Chris Klein, and subsequent pregnancy make her an easy target
00:21for pervasive gossip. Spears, of course, can relate to her character. The actress's award-winning
00:26Nickelodeon show Zoe 101 ended after a four-season run in 2008, the same year she welcomed daughter
00:32Maddie, now 11, following a highly publicized teen pregnancy. Spears told THR of taking on the new
00:37role, it didn't even feel like acting. I remember being 16 years old, being pregnant in a small town,
00:42and then on top of it, the whole world was watching. Don't get me wrong, I didn't view myself as a victim,
00:47and with Noreen, it was important to not play the victim either. She put herself in a compromising
00:51situation. She's a young girl who made some adult decisions, and she's trying to take some
00:55responsibility for that. That was me too. As for why now, Spears says she was waiting for a project
01:04that made sense. She tells THR, I fell in love with the part. It's that simple. I didn't want to do
01:09something just to do it. According to showrunner Cheryl J. Anderson, from the beginning, Jamie Lynn
01:13had a great take on the character. I immediately saw an incredible vulnerability in her, and I was
01:18drawn to her as an actress. The extra layer that she brought in from her own life didn't even hit me
01:23until later. For the full interview with Jamie Lynn Spears, head to THR.com. For The Hollywood
01:27Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
