00:00this evening and now we begin to count down once again toward the main event
00:03joining me right now is one of boxing's leading literary lights the former
00:08chairman of the new york state athletic commission and now contracted to be
00:11there he comes with a couple to start things off
00:14burbick uses those big boy's shoulders for a great defense
00:20he too is if someone an unorthodox fighter
00:23not a lot of movement uses arms elbows
00:30very strong inside and so far we've got a carl williams jabbing exhibition
00:45that is jab number seven in a row make it eight and burbick has yet to answer
00:50a left and a right along the ropes
00:53burbick is very clever he tries to uh bring his opponents closer especially
00:58they're taller than he is he brings them in sometimes he goes against the ropes and he
01:03retaliates
01:04he may not find that carl will
01:07williams appear to be more content use that jab
01:12well burbick is either playing possum early here ray or he is elected to come in and not
01:18throw punches tonight
01:19well here again burbick's in trouble no he's not he's just playing around this is the way
01:24he's got out a lot of opponents because they thought they had him and all of a sudden
01:29he comes back throwing punches and gets him in trouble
01:37that's that beautiful jab of carl williams
01:46you know burbick is looking in he's trying to find the best way to get inside that jab
02:01of of uh carl williams now burbick finally threw a punch this is an ibf elimination fight
02:08numbers one versus two the winner to get a mandatory title shot and again burbick attempts to goad
02:16williams into believing that he's in trouble
02:19good stiff jab williams should throw that jab to the midsection a couple times bring those hands down
02:26you need to change the direction of the jab especially if you possess a good jab like williams does
02:38perfect in the entire round ray has issued two pawing left hands to the gut
02:45and carl williams continues to just work away with the left jab you may find a little disapproval
02:50from the crowd because they want to see some action here all right get out we go let's go
02:55five well not the world's most difficult round to score
03:14all right just why i was just getting him off yeah i know just right
03:17the words of veteran al graverman who's all around the same way we did right well to paraphrase al he
03:45want he means go to work become aggressive i'm glad you paraphrased him
03:58get in your corner get in your corner brother all right let's go come on he saw the jab differential
04:03as round two begins
04:09burbock now is trying to turn this fight into a street fight let's go
04:22it's okay to be cute at times but it has to be for a reason
04:33first
04:39it's a great fight
04:41check out
04:43but three
04:45to the wheel they have a call get the hand off the neck let's go don't be holding the hand now
04:50burbick starts to do some business against the rib cage williams shows he's not afraid to step up
04:57on the ropes all right bring out clean come on
05:15both guys are content to do what they're doing now which is really not too much
05:24williams has been doing a a lot of jabs now he's elected it seems to me jim that he's
05:31starting to take a breather but you pointed out that trevor burbick has never been the world's most
05:36entertaining fighter and he is underlining that description right here a lot of times
05:40for burbick fights he fights according to his opponent's style if they're busy he's cute and
05:45he's more a little more aggressive because he has to be in here against williams can just stand
05:51stand off and use that jab so you may not see too much action except when one of the guys are hurt
05:57when i was upstairs with larry holmes ray he used one word to describe perfect weird we
06:06burbick has his own style
06:07both fighters went the distance with holmes all right bring up bring up bring up let's go
06:18and what i found out from these guys here when up against a great fight like larry holmes they
06:23put a better fight good right hand if i call the truth win it seems to a stunt good right hand by burbick
06:29coming back it's just done burbick then burbick retaliate with a good right hand his own but when he
06:34put my home they look impressive and now they've yet to put out
06:43williams continues to score with the jab
06:45burbick a considerably more energetic fighter in round two than in the first stanza but still the
06:57dominant element in the fight remains carl williams jab from distance
07:03and now he's going to be able to do that he's strong you're handling yourself beautiful you're putting
07:12your head where you got to put it quicker jack you look for it your hand speed is much greater than
07:16him so let's win with hand speed don't match your hand your hand speed is quite hot hot
07:21bend down take your breath first take in a breath
07:24you are watching trevor burbick and carl williams who have completed two rounds in an ibf heavyweight
07:39elimination fight still to come mike tyson against michael spanks
07:44the voice in williams corner was that of his trainer carmen graziano
07:54in burbick's corner you hear both trainer lee black
07:58and the veteran corner man al braverman
08:00and williams begins round three by reminding burbick of the jab which dominated the first two rounds
08:15you see now the different pattern of left jab thrown by carl williams he's going to the head
08:20to the body i can see you okay now burbick has complained about thumb but
08:24it's difficult to dump someone with those webbed thumbs the thumbs are attached
08:42i think what williams should be doing jimmy every time that burbick reaches in
08:47pop with the left jab keep him out keep him off balance
08:50that's all he has to do just dig his jab out
09:12all right get the guns out let him i call get him out let's go get the guns out
09:15hey i got clean you're holding now you're holding let's go let's go
09:20let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go let's go
09:31burbick has gone back to the inactive posture that he adopted in round one
09:36and williams responds by continuing to step up with the left jab
09:41burbick's a little frustrated because he can't land any punches he can't get set
09:45decides to dance and williams says well i can jab you while you do that too
09:59one minute to go in round three of what has so far been a workout for carl williams
10:13good left hand by burbick coming out of that action
10:27good tactic if you get away with it
10:39good tactic if you get away with it
10:55good tactic if you get away with it
11:00time he'll go to carl williams corner first
11:07and when his head goes all the way back with your jab drop the right hand follow your jab his head's way
11:16back he'll never see the right hand nice jab put the head right back and drop a straight right hand
11:20step right in with okay this is the round he's getting slower and you're getting quicker
11:25you're going to get away three rounds
11:34yeah open your mouth open up
11:38put this back on take the time a lot of time come on out there and get quickly now let's hear the scoring of our unofficial scoring score
11:44well jim i've got a 30 to 27 three runs to none for carl williams he's keeping
11:50trevor burbick perfectly at the end of his left jab the distance is beautiful and that's good ring generalship
11:56and of course harold the burbick corner has scored it the same way as we heard in their conversation
12:08so now we hear or we see the beginning of round four in a fight in which carl williams has dominated the first three rounds
12:16the first three rounds with his jab
12:25burbick has the final way to notify the left jab of williams because standing straight up
12:31he's going to be peppered laying back being cute he's going to be peppered what he needs to do
12:36he needs to go to work well great trainers and eddie futch is one in particular to talk about
12:41taking away the left jab how do you do it ray well a lot of times
12:46working the body you bring that left hand down you try to slow your opponent down by working the
12:50body the midsection if you will and also count with right hands when that jab comes out and comes back
12:56and drop you count with the right hand i have not seen that with burbick when he tried it there
13:04all right break break up that works sometimes too it's not really legal it's not a bad idea it's not
13:12legal but it works williams stepped away disgustedly and now burbick starts going to the midsection with
13:19aggressiveness let's go right we got me we got me
13:34burbick has only had one fight since he was destroyed by mike tyson in two rounds
13:39williams could easily have been unbeaten at this stage in his career many ringside observers
13:47thought that he got at least a draw or should have gotten at least a draw against holmes in their 15
13:52round battle he was beating up mike weaver in troy new york in february 1986 when weaver landed one of
14:00those rocket shots of which he was capable and suddenly put him on queer street and knocked him out
14:06williams for his best fight when he fought the former heavyweight champion larry holmes he had
14:10larry frustrated with the left jab he kept his jab busy and i have not seen that type of performance since
14:22he'll be in line for a title shot if he can get past burbick here tonight
14:36and he's the kind of fighter ray that many people think would make an interesting opponent
14:41for mike tyson if tyson should get past sphinx he's big he has the left jab he has lateral movement
14:47and boxing skill but there's never been a problem with mike tyson as far as height
14:52arms is concerned just have to have a little bit more ring generalship
14:56round four comes to a close and still burbick has found no strategy to reverse the tide of the fight
15:17and there is mrs mike tyson robin gibbons seated next to her don king on one side on the other side
15:30the much publicized mother of robin gibbons ruth roper
15:40they are known in newspapers to be a chummy crowd
15:53way
16:03in
16:05the
16:06way
16:11in
16:13round five begins with a half dozen Williams jabs not quite as sharp ray as they were in round one
16:29and two well I don't believe it's just been the fact that Burbank is so awkward I mean with his
16:40broad shoulders and his his weird movement that Williams has not been able to land combinations
16:46he has been landed FJF like he's been he's doing here but he has not been able to put together
16:51combinations this fight is scheduled for 12 rounds this crowd will get restless if they
17:03watch 12 rounds of this well we need to see more punches from Kevin Burbank I've stated round one
17:14in fact that's what he has to do to get inside he needs to work his jab get close to Williams and try
17:20to slow down make him fight his fight thus far has been Williams fight left jab left jab repeatedly
17:33that guy Williams left with the right hasn't done that very often hasn't had to
17:49of course this fight remained in doubt right up until four or five days ago when the IVF settled
18:08its dispute over the question of whether the Tyson Spinks fight would go 12 rounds or 15 and so
18:17consequently neither Burbank nor Williams knew with any certainty that they would be fighting
18:22tonight until that time it appears that Williams for the moment has been the man who handled that
18:30particular little passage better than did his opponent
18:34this has been an awful fight for Trevor Burbank he has not been effective at all no clean punches
18:54he's been throwing punches off balance
18:56just been a bad night for him
19:00five rounds of Carl Williams jabs Burbank goes to his corner to seek another answer
19:08sit down
19:11now you've got it you've got to move this sucker back
19:17take your time don't worry about that here I got this just rinse that out
19:23yeah but let me tell you something Trev you're doing beauty
19:33no matter how you do it rough him up I'm telling you what to expect don't let him do that twist and spin
19:38and keep him on the end of your jab well you'll seldom see a more remarkable set of statistics
19:44than that just to re-emphasize them Williams has thrown 112 jabs in the fight and Burbank has thrown 14 now
19:52any difference wouldn't be surprising Ray because Burbank doesn't really work off the jab and what he has is more of a
19:58pawing pushing jab than the kind of snapping weapon that Williams brings to the fight but a gap that wide is astonishing
20:06it really is because I expected more punches from Trevor Burbank
20:11Burbank normally throws punches roundhouse punches looping punches left hooks
20:16he has not been doing that tonight he has not been that busy tonight
20:19well he's 35 years old
20:22he took a fierce beating from Tyson in two rounds
20:25could it be that Trevor Burbank
20:29is too far down the road for this experience
20:32I doubt very seriously because Burbank has not taken a great deal of punishment throughout his career
20:37he's been a very defensive type fighter and he's preserved his body very well
20:42I think the problem he has is right in front of him
20:45it's all well
20:46come on let's go
20:50let me look at him
20:51Cortez no happier with the action than the people outside the ring
21:02you can just see the frustration in Trevor Burbank
21:09hit the rabbit punches behind the head
21:12really loses composure
21:15which could prove to be fatal
21:18the jab of all wheels
21:21but it's obvious that neither fighter wants to make the kind of mistake that could lead to a sudden knockdown
21:26and until one of them gets a little bit more courageous
21:30we're likely to continue to see this exhibition of jabbing technique
21:34at those times when Burbank has tried to lunge in
21:42Williams has been hard to find
21:43get him out
21:46now Burbank is able to lure Williams onto the ropes and he gets him with a counter right hand
22:00one minute to go in round number six
22:05look at how wild
22:20Trevor Burbank is becoming now
22:22I mean there is signs of desperation
22:25look here
22:26dropping his hands
22:27he's really
22:30lost his composure
22:32if I saw that in the fight I would have a field day
22:40but would you
22:46step in a little farther and be a little more aggressive at this moment than Williams is
22:50I guess you don't have to
22:52that's it
22:53you answer the question Jim
22:54he doesn't have to
22:55hold the hands of the neck
22:56hold time
22:57hold time
22:58hold it you keep holding it when they call taking points away don't keep holding the head
23:00now
23:01let's go
23:02time
23:03so Cortez warns Williams not to hold behind the head the next instance
23:07a threatened reduction of a point
23:11and coming up Mike Tyson against Michael Spinks in what promises to be a considerably more active battle than the one we're watching right now between Burbank and Williams and the young champion heats up
23:26that's a live shot of Mike Tyson
23:33in his dressing room as he prepares for a fight which will take place in fewer than 45 minutes from now
23:42and there's Paul Simon warming up with Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty
23:47Nicholson the soul of discretion decides to hide his words with a well-folded program
23:53that's Jesse Jackson just in front of Beatty
23:56that is Donald Trump to Jackson's right
23:59that is Mrs. Trump, Ivana
24:03seated next to her husband
24:07Carl Williams now with some salve at the corner of his right eye
24:12have not seen any blood from that spot
24:14could be just a mild abrasion
24:17good counter right hand inside by Burbank
24:24Burbank starting to get a little mean now
24:27starting to put a little more body behind his punches
24:30round 7 brings a new Trevor Burbank to the ring
24:33he's talking to Carl Williams
24:35I guess he's trying to make Carl Williams upset too
24:38make him fight, make Carl Williams fight his type of fight
24:41the moment he's been able to wrestle the jab right out of business
24:48there it is again
24:51could be that Burbank saw that abrasion at the corner of Williams' eye
24:54decided it was time to go to work
24:56well I'm also surprised that Burbank has not thrown that loop of right hand
25:00the left hand of Williams has been dropping slowly but surely
25:05he knows how he throws a jab he drops it
25:08that's perfect time for a counter right hand
25:10break, break, break
25:12break out for you, break out
25:13hey, when I say break your break
25:15let's go
25:16almost landed a monstrous uppercut coming out of the break
25:19Cortez said hey
25:20that one wouldn't be a legal shot
25:28couple of good right hands inside
25:30as Williams left himself open after the left hand
25:33Burbank is just trying to out muscle Williams here
25:42Williams should not cooperate and stay inside
25:45there is blood
25:46there is blood
25:47yes, now there's blood over the right eye of Carl Williams
25:50doesn't seem to be too bad
25:52but again
25:54Williams should not be inside
25:56no, it's a small cut
25:58but it's a target for Trevor Burbank
26:01Trevor Burbank
26:03and it seems to have brought a little new life
26:05to Burbank's mentality
26:15both fighters get away with low blows
26:17it seems to me that Williams started way down
26:24he's throwing some pretty good shots
26:29but with not the same conviction he threw earlier
26:34no question about it, Ray Williams is not nearly as confident looking a fighter
26:38at this moment
26:39and Trevor Burbank knows it
26:41good body shot though
26:43the jab is going away and we're starting to see a little bit more of a brawl
26:48that would play into Burbank's hands
26:51I don't believe
26:55and that cut over the right eye is beginning to open up a little bit
27:03as round seven comes to a close
27:05the cut man in Carl Williams' corner is Eddie Aliano
27:15one of the best in the game
27:16cover the ring and punch while you move
27:18drop that right hand like you have
27:19just like
27:20you mean that water?
27:21you have some water?
27:22just like you have a speed
27:23just like you have a speed
27:24it's open Eddie?
27:25no, a little bit
27:26very likely
27:27and Aliano goes to work
27:29first he applies pressure
27:33you need a towel
27:34then he needs a towel
27:35it'll be about 25 seconds worth of pressure
27:38in the salve
27:39oh, come back to covering the ring
27:41he's only got one chance trying to get inside me
27:43alright, come on
27:44I got it
27:46cover the ring and hit him while you move
27:48Goodyear blimp America from Houston, Texas
27:51provides us with this shot
27:53Pilot is Captain Don McDuff
27:54a native of Anson, Texas
27:56and a lifelong fight fan
27:58who picks Mike Tyson
28:00to win it in seven rounds
28:02hello, Don
28:04hey, hey, hey, what's up, man?
28:08eighth round begins
28:10of a fight which changed pretty dramatically
28:12in round number seven
28:14seventh round
28:15I saw a little, uh
28:17something different in
28:19in Carl Williams
28:20he was not as confident as he was in the early round
28:23and suddenly, Trevor Burbick has arrived
28:27come on
28:29brawling
28:30trying to spin
28:31Williams with his upper body strength
28:33Williams should not be here at this corner
28:35come on, let's go get the hands out
28:41come on, work out of there
28:42your hands are free
28:43use that great upper body strength
28:45trying to wear down Williams
28:47come on, work out, your hands are free
28:49come on
28:51this is a very bad idea
28:53for Williams to lean all over Trevor
28:55and fight his fight with him
28:56isn't it, Ray?
28:57it also knows, that's true
28:58but also, watch what happens
28:59when Williams put both feet together
29:01he can push down
29:03knock on balance
29:04or he can knock to the canvas
29:06well, we saw that in the Mike Williams
29:08Buster Douglas fight
29:09the Williams feet
29:11betrayed him early in the fight
29:13watch these shots here
29:15those good uppercuts by Trevor Burbick
29:17come on, your hands are free
29:19come on, get the hands out, fellas
29:20let's go
29:21it'll be interesting to see
29:23after this round
29:25how Harold Letterman
29:26has changed his view of the fight
29:28if at all
29:29come on, get your hands out
29:32point out
29:33your hands are free
29:34blood blowing from
29:36small cut above
29:37the Williams eye
29:38the cut has gotten worse
29:40yes
29:41considerably worse, Ray
29:42and it's in a very bad spot
29:46Burbick now just using his body
29:47he's not punching with Alza
29:48he's using his body
29:49where does it point down?
29:54let me hold the head
29:55let me hold the head
29:56come on
29:57I'm not taking a point
29:58watch your hands
29:59Williams complaining about
30:00his butt
30:01he's
30:03he's seen the butt a couple times
30:04but he gave his composure
30:06three straight left hands
30:07by Burbick as he begins
30:08to go for the eye
30:10it is now a target for him
30:18and Williams has stopped using
30:19his feet to cover the ring
30:20as he did early in the bout
30:22hold your scoff
30:24hold your scoff
30:25hold your scoff
30:26hold your scoff
30:27hold your scoff

30:50Hold your scorecard.
31:01Hold your scorecard.
31:03Round eight comes to a close, and again, the pressure falls on Eddie Aliano
31:07to try to do something about Carl the Truth Williams' eye.
31:12He steps into position.
31:14Well, he's got you.
31:16Yeah.
31:16Hey, bud, you're going to tell her I'm going to call.
31:19Now, Carmen Graziano wants to talk to Joe Cortez about Bucs.
31:23Yeah.
31:23Carl, listen, I took a point away from you for holding behind the head.
31:28I told you, I warned you several times, I don't want you to keep on holding.
31:32I thought I'm taking points away some more.
31:33So you heard Joe Cortez there say that a point has been deducted
31:40from Carl Williams for holding behind the head.
31:43Now let's look at Harold Letterman's scorecard.
31:46Harold?
31:47Well, Jim, I've got it six rounds to two.
31:48I thought that 77-74 in points because of the fact that Cortez picked the point.
31:53I definitely thought that Trevor Burbick out for Carl Williams in the last two rounds,
31:58but the question is, is Trevor Burbick too far behind in his fight?
32:01So you had it at 78-74, but with the point deduction, Harold, it comes down to 77-74.
32:09All right.
32:11Round nine begins in what is an increasingly interesting bout
32:15between Carl Williams and Trevor Burbick, the winner,
32:18in line for a mandatory heavyweight title shot.
32:23Williams tries to get back on his feet and move around.
32:25And we talked earlier in the fight, Ray, about taking away the jab.
32:40Trevor Burbick's been able to do it.
32:42Burbick has taken away the jab,
32:43and the way he was able to do that was a turn this two-street draw.
32:47He made Williams a bandit's left jab and start fights inside,
32:54which has been a bad mistake.
32:58Get the hands out. Get those hands off.
33:01Let's go and work out of that.
33:02Freeze! Break out, please. Break out, please.
33:07And, of course, it's incumbent on Williams now to try to forget about his eye
33:11and go back to what had been piling up points for him earlier in the bout.
33:14But he doesn't seem to be thinking jab now.
33:19Started out trying to throw underneath, throwing hooks.
33:32Four rounds remaining.
33:35And with the deduction of the point,
33:38if, in fact, it were to go the distance
33:40and Trevor Burbick were able to win the last four,
33:42he can still pull a victory out.
33:44Come on, we got it, Ed. Let's go.
33:54Keep going to the head. They'll be holding. They'll be holding.
33:56Let's go.
33:58We got it, guys. Come on. Give me a round.
34:01That, of course, is if the other judges at ringside,
34:04the three official judges from the state of New Jersey,
34:06see it about the way we've seen it.
34:08Come on. Let's go, Carl.
34:10Good left hand from Carl Williams.
34:17Doesn't seem to be able to hurt Burbick, though,
34:20no matter how solidly he lands those punches, right?
34:23Well, you notice when Williams throws his combinations,
34:26he'll tie his man up.
34:28Oh, I have to move away.
34:29The good news for Carl Williams at this moment
34:47is that the cut seems to be stabilized.
34:49He has not had the kind of blood flow in this round
34:52that he did in round eight.
34:58And that can happen during the course of a bout
35:01if the cut man does his job effectively.
35:06So nine rounds have come to completion.
35:08We still look ahead to the World Heavyweight Championship bout
35:19between Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks,
35:22two unbeaten fighters.
35:2817 years ago in Madison Square Garden
35:31as an unbeaten fighter with 31 wins, zero losses,
35:35that man fought another unbeaten heavyweight
35:38named Joe Frazier.
35:42And there, of course,
35:44is another former heavyweight champion
35:46who took the title from Ali in 1978, Leon Spinks.
35:52And the Spinks family is now getting together
35:55in his locker room for a pre-fight prayer.
35:59Get in your corner, get in your corner, get in your corner, get in your corner.
36:04She hopes it isn't a pre-fright prayer.
36:12Round 10.
36:14Remember that this bout is scheduled for 12
36:16as an official IBF elimination bout.
36:23All right, I can do it on the belt.
36:29And both fighters have been 15 rounds in their careers.
36:36So they know how to take the long road to 12.
36:41They may want to stop the fight for a sec,
36:44for the tape on, loose tape rather,
36:46on Trevor Burbick's right and left glove.
36:49Which gives a little breather to both fighters.
37:00Carl Williams and Kevin Burbick.
37:06Williams, not breathing too heavily
37:09as he stands just above us, Ray.
37:12Looks a little disgusted
37:14with the way the last few rounds have gone.
37:15Well, he had to select to fight inside
37:20with Burbick and
37:21he learned the wonderful art
37:23of hitting behind the head
37:26and rabbit punching
37:29and things of that nature.
37:30Carl nodded to someone in the crowd
37:32just behind us, Ray.
37:34Turned to look and see who it might have been,
37:36but it's hard to tell.
37:42There comes the jab again.
37:44Missing for two rounds.
37:47That little breather,
37:49a few seconds,
37:50rejuvenated the left jab
37:51of Carl Williams.
37:56Indeed it did.
38:00Put a little more light behind it.
38:02So we've had two interesting little interludes
38:04which could have an influence
38:05on the ultimate outcome of the belt.
38:07The deductive point against Williams
38:09for holding behind the head.
38:10And now the brief pause
38:11for the tape from Burbick's glove,
38:13which seems suddenly to revive
38:15the Carl Williams jab.
38:16Two big right hands by Trevor Burbick.
38:18Come on, get the hands out.
38:34Get the hands out.
38:35Let's go.
38:37Get him out.
38:42Let's go.
38:43Come on, work out.
38:43Come on, work out of there, guys.
38:46Your hands are free.
38:47Your hands are free.
38:48Come on, Carl.
38:49Let's go.
38:49Your hands are free.
38:50Let's go.
38:51Let's go.
38:51And having seen the jab resurface,
39:07Burbick goes back to the tactic
39:08of trying to turn it into a wrestling match.
39:10Well, he's throwing it, Ray,
39:17but it's not the same stinging jab
39:19which dominated the first six rounds.
39:21It's not really a very potent jab
39:23it was in the earlier rounds,
39:24but it's more important.
39:34And with some of the foot movement returning,
39:36he's now able to make Burbick miss again.
39:39Well, we are very near now to the feature event.
40:03And finally, virtually every seat in the house is filled.
40:07Donald Trump counts the house
40:08for what he says is the largest live gate
40:12ever for a sports event.
40:14Jesse Jackson leans over to listen
40:16to the words of Robin Givens Tyson
40:19as she whispers across Don King
40:22and into the presidential candidate's ear.
40:25Tickets on the boardwalk being scalped
40:34for as much, I am told, as $5,000.
40:44Jose Torres, Ray, intended to me
40:46that he knows a man who bought a ticket
40:48out on the boardwalk tonight for $5,000.
40:51We had been told as much as three a few hours ago.
40:56As fight time nears, the ante goes up.
40:59Come on, let's go.
41:03All right, let's go. Time in.
41:04You're watching Trevor Burbick and Carl the Truth Williams
41:18in the 11th round of their 12-round bout
41:20to determine which of them
41:23gets the next mandatory IVF title shot
41:26in the heavyweight division.
41:28If Carl Williams keep that jab working, active,
41:33I see he captured his decision.
41:37Or either knockout,
41:38because that was a good shot just there.
41:45But though Williams has landed a lot of blows tonight,
41:48he never seems to have hurt Burbick.
41:49Burbick has trouble in trying to get set
41:59to throw his punches with a boxer.
42:01And that's what I would envision
42:03to call the Truth Williams doing.
42:06Just jabbing, moving, battle moving.
42:09You see, as long as he throws a jab out,
42:10it's difficult for Burbick to get set.
42:13He gets frustrated.
42:14Unsung hero of the night,
42:15if Williams is able to hold on and win the bout,
42:17cut man Eddie Aliano,
42:19who stopped the flow of blood
42:21after the 8th round.
42:23It's so important to have a professional
42:25cut man in your corner.
42:28Come on.
42:28All right, break out.
42:29Break out.
42:29Come on.
42:43Come on, work out there.
42:44Come on.
42:45You're having to freeze.
42:47Perfect landing punches inside,
43:13but just as the snap has gone from Williams' jab,
43:15and two good, solid blows coming out of that break
43:21by Carl Williams.
43:23A left and a right to the head of Trevor Burbick.
43:25And I was going to say,
43:25just as Williams' jab is losing it snapped,
43:28Burbick no longer seems able to snap Williams' head back
43:31when he lands inside.
43:32We have to complain about the head of Trevor Burbick.
43:35He shouldn't be there.
43:36He should not be inside with Burbick.
43:39His combination, throw his combinations,
43:41get out, start moving, use the jab.
43:42Beautiful combination by Carl Williams.
43:45Williams coming alive again in the middle of round 11
43:48and has dominated the last minute and a half of this round.
43:51Come on, let's go.
43:51Get him out.
43:51It's a great combination, great hands by Carl Williams.
43:54Come on, let's go.
43:55Both of you guys.
43:59So they've got three minutes to go.
44:03Final look at Carl Williams by cut man Eddie Aliano,
44:11but he's done his job.
44:12You need to bend your back and let those punches go.
44:21You got to knock the man out, Trevor.
44:22It's the last round.
44:23Here we see some work by Carl Williams
44:32from a combination after combination.
44:34In fact, he's been getting the better of the two
44:35throughout the fight.
44:38Another shot here.
44:40The right hand, left hook, Trevor Burbick,
44:43being very lackadaisical and being so susceptible
44:45to combinations thrown by Carl Williams.
44:47And you heard from Al Braverman and Lee Black
44:54how the Burbick corner had scored the fight.
44:57They said, Trevor, you've got to knock the man out.
45:00Joe Cortez separates the fighters
45:02and now brings them in to begin round number 12.
45:06Harold, tell me, without us looking at the graphic,
45:18how do you have the fight scored?
45:19Well, Jim, I've got 101 to 107,
45:21nine rounds to two in favor of Carl Williams.
45:24I've got him ahead commandingly.
45:25I definitely thought he outfought Trevor Burbick
45:27in the last three rounds.
45:29And I thought Sugar and Leonard called it right
45:31very early on when he said that Trevor Burbick
45:33was raining rabid punches consistently.
45:36Because that's what he's doing.
45:37He's hitting Carl Williams behind the head
45:38and that's illegal.
45:40Right now, though, Burbick has begun
45:42to do some damage inside
45:43as he tries to flurry one more time.
45:46Williams covering up.
45:47Crowd comes alive with two minutes to go.
45:50All right, come on, come on.
45:51I'll be holding, I'll be holding.
45:51Let's go, I'll be holding.
45:52Let's go, come on.
45:54According to both Harold Letterman
45:56and the people in Burbick's corner,
45:58Trevor needs a knockout.
46:02I'll be holding, guys.
46:03Get the hands out.
46:03Let's go.
46:05All right, bring it out.
46:08I mean, bring it out.
46:13Good combinations by Carl Williams.
46:15Finally starting to put punches together
46:17with real effectiveness in the last two rounds, Ray.
46:19Just a beautiful display of combinations.
46:21At this point now, Jim,
46:23the fighter's arms are extremely tired,
46:26but they are really reaching down,
46:28trying to bring up that extra amount of energy
46:30to finish the other guy off.
46:32And after a couple of difficult rounds
46:34in the middle of the fight,
46:36the seventh and eighth,
46:37Carl Williams has shown some real guts
46:39in coming back here
46:40to dominate the late stages of the fight.
46:43He's looking quite impressive.
46:44He's showing a great deal of heart.
46:46And he's inside.
46:48He's showing the heart of a champion.
46:50Come on, your hands are free, guys.
46:51Come on, wake out of there.
46:51Come on, your hands are free.
46:52Come on.
46:53He's fighting a rugged fighter in Trevor Burbick.
46:55Didn't, in the end,
46:56turn out to be such a bad fight, did it?
46:58Well, now,
46:59this point here,
47:00he's being much more aggressive,
47:02throwing more shots to the midsection,
47:04throwing combinations.
47:05Watch the head for that.
47:06If it turns out that way,
47:11Williams will raise his record to 21-2.
47:14He's 28 years old.
47:16Burbick will drop to 34-6-1.
47:19At age 35,
47:21you would have to doubt
47:22that there is a lot of future left.
47:26Low blow by Carl Williams.
47:27Let's go, come on.
47:30But Cortez didn't deduct anything,
47:32moved him back in.
47:33You see the time remaining now.
47:37And in our estimation,
47:39all that's necessary for Carl Williams
47:41to earn himself a heavyweight championship bout
47:44would be to stand up from here on in.
47:47We have a lot of unanswered blows
47:50by Trevor Burbick.
47:52That's what cost the fight.
47:55For sure.
47:57Well, Burbick gave away
47:58the first five or six rounds
48:00and simply dug himself
48:03too deep a hole
48:03unless something unusual happens.
48:07We did see Saturday night
48:08here on the boardwalk
48:09a very strange decision
48:11in a fight involving
48:13Hector Camacho
48:14and Reyes Cruz.
48:17At least I certainly thought
48:18it was a little off-kilter, Ray.
48:20It was a surprise decision
48:22that Camacho made the game
48:24because no one expected
48:25that much from Cruz.
48:26But Cruz, right,
48:28he rose to the occasion.
48:29Well, he more than rose
48:33to the occasion
48:33and in my particular opinion
48:35he won the fight.
48:37But not in the opinion
48:38of the judges
48:38who scored it
48:40for Hector Camacho.
48:41Well, that's why
48:42we have the Herald letter.
48:43Yep.
48:44And we shall see
48:45let's see what happens here.
49:09Rob standing now
49:11awaiting this decision
49:12and then they'll begin
49:14to crank themselves up.
49:19Not that much longer
49:20to wait
49:21for the main event.
49:30And now let's go
49:32to ring announcer
49:33Michael Buffer
49:33to find out
49:35who won this fight.
49:36Ladies and gentlemen,
49:37the winner of this fight
49:37will now be ranked number one
49:39by the International Boxing Federation.
49:41Here is the official scoring.
49:43Aldo Vito scores
49:44about 116 to 112.
49:47Henry Eugene Grant
49:48scores at 117 to 110
49:50and Joseph Pasquale
49:52scores at 116 to 111.
49:54For the winner
49:55by unanimous decision,
49:57Carl the Truth Williams!
50:02No surprises there.
50:04Joe Cortez
50:05holds up
50:06the hand of the man
50:07who got a well-deserved decision.
50:09Titles.
